Great find on a recent trip to Minnesota. Strong drinks, great menu, server was top notch!

Lou Nanne's has converted itself to Tavern 23. Lou Nanne has swag all over the restaurant still. The transition happened on Tuesday and I went on Friday. I understand that there is a learning curve with all business transitions and it was evident when the waiter suggested items that weren't on the menu. I was craving a nice steak dinner and decided to give it a try. Tavern 23 has the look of a chop house but the menu of a bar. I caution the menu is too vast. Perhaps comparable to Cheesecake Factory. A little bit of Mexican, sushi, wok selections, pizza, pasta, steak, fish, etc. There were too many cuisines and too many options that nothing stood out to me. It was difficult to decide what to order. For apps, we ordered the crab cakes and franchise onion soup. The waiter said the crab cakes have 90% crab in them. It was served over a delicious salad and came with a creamy dipping sauce. It was decadent. The French onion soup was delicious as well! The apps were great, I was hoping the main meal was equally as delicious. Although I was craving steak, I ended up going with the pecan walleye. Parts of the walleye bread crumb crust was crunchy and other parts were soggy. Something about the walleye dish was not good and I feel like it was the pecans. Happy Hour This is the third time I've stopped for Happy Hour. Service is prompt and friendly. I have been ordering the flatbread pizza - perfectly topped, the correct blend of sauce, topping and cheese. I branched our to try the nachos; mistake . They skimped on the traditional toppings, instead they dumped about a cup of sweet corn on the chips. Ugh read more

We (fiancé and I) went here on a whim when our favorite restaurant had too long of a wait. And am I glad we did. We were welcomed with open arms and sat in a great section in the back. The server Felipe was amazing and had awesome recommendations on food. Great experience, great background music, amazing food, and amazing drinks. Ask for Felipe and you will have a great night. P.S. Food was okay, service was definitely lacked on. Only ones at the bar. 3 bartenders/servers behind the bar. They very rarely checked on us. We had to ask for an additional drink. We sat empty (after our first one) for at least 25 mins before they came back. read more

The latest incarnation of the former Lou Nanne Steak house reimagined as a slightly more casual "Tavern" concept offering a more casual menu. Still didn't set my heart aflame but an improvement over the previous. For me the food was nothing special. read more

Had a group of 10-15 people. We had a waitress named Michelle who was fantastic. Everyone got various items, only complaints: garlic edamame was a touch salty, the salmon sushi nigiri fish wasn't raw, maybe smoked, and the seared ahi tuna was over cooked on the salad? Also wasn't cut nicely so the presentation was lacking. Dishes that joined the clean plate club: Mongolian beef, carne asada tacos, beef stroganoff x 2, walleye sandwich x 3, and an ungodly amount of delicious banana pudding. Overall, the menu seems large, making some items not as great as the others. There are many options that can satisfy anyone. Currently hands and knees over the toilet from the French dip. I'm the last person to complain about food but the sandwich came out not undercooked but fully uncooked. When I asked the bartender about it he said they would put it back on to "make it medium rare instead of rare." When it came back it was on the same bun, fully soggy and half cooked meat. I have only been to Tavern 23 for their happy hour, and it deserves 5 stars. My friend and I ordered the Red Sangria, House Red, Spicy Edamame, Crunch Roll and Calif Roll from their HH menu. Red Sangria was STRONG! I had to water it down a little bit, so definitely worth the $5-$6. The spicy edamame was great and there was a lot of it! Rolls were delicious, I also ordered the Las Vegas roll and loved it. Happy Hour was busy and you have to sit in the bar area for the menu to apply to you. We found the last spot and it was probably 5:15 on a Tuesday. Our server was tentative and got our order correct with ease. Loved the vibe of the restaurant and will definitely be back! read more

My friend and I have come here several times for lunch usually out on patio, which is our preference. Today we were told the patio isn't open, but no reason given by hostess. We got there just as they opened so nobody there but she proceeded to give us a table in the middle of the room so we asked for a booth and could tell she wasn't pleased about that. Waitress gave refills of iced tea for my friend, but never offered me a refill. Food was awful. I had the grilled cheeseburger on bread. Not even hot and hardly warm and I think the cheese was velveeta!! My friend had the French dip. meat was way undercooked and fatty too, she had to pick the fat out. We had to wait about 15 Min. for her to bring our check. The reason I'm writing a review is that this restaurant used to be great! The food used to be amazing every time. Random choice because was looking for a burger. Was amazingly surprised! Wait staff was too notch. Food was fantastic. I got the sausage and onion pizza, wife got the double stack, son got chicken sandwich, and daughter got French onion soup. Will definitely come back next time in town. read more

I had the Las Vegas roll here this week (last time I was here it was a Macaroni Grill!) and it was below average, to be honest. The smoked salmon was a little chewy and tough which was the first time I have experienced that when eating sushi. I also had tomato bisque soup which was very good. Food was fine, the food runner and help staff very pleasant BUT the server had a very unpleasant attitude. She was abrupt to say the least. Did take our order, luckily a lovely young woman brought the food out. I ordered a medium rare filet mignon, was given an extra well done filet. I don't normally send back food but I decided to send it back and it came back too raw to eat, they offered to sear it a little more and it came back just as raw with the crust very tough looking. We went here for a work dinner with out of town vendors. We decided to sit on the patio since it was such a nice day, which was wonderful. They had a good selection of drink choices, but their signature cocktails are a little bit speedy. I ended up getting a simple vodka cran, which was pretty good. Others at the table had wine or beer. The service was not so great. It took quite a while to get our drinks (15-20 minutes) and our waitress forgot to deliver our gluten free menus. We didn't end up ordering until probably 30 minutes in and water did not get refilled until we were about to leave (2 hours after arrival). The enchiladas were tasty and my coworkers had good things to say about their burgers as well. Overall not bad, but I don't think I would choose to return to this restaurant any time soon. read more

No AIR CONDITIONING on a 100+ degree day? Server told us it had been out for an extended period of time. It was VERY uncomfortable in there and my party of 12 left as soon as we ate, just too hot. Manager would not own it. We would have appreciated a call to let us know. We might have come back on another day. I ordered a filet mignon(medium rare). They came back with a extra well done 8oz, so I sent it back, then I was given a slightly seared but still rather raw steak. What the what? The menu is insane... in all honesty I fear places like this but both me and my date had excellent food. They have steak, they have sushi, they have Asian, they have Mexican, they have burgers and things between bread... I don't know what to say... the menu options are long to say the least but the food was awesome, service was good and it was lively on a Saturday night... for being in a weird spot... it's a little tricky to actually get to... you can see it... but actually navigating it... I was surprised. I loved it. I just came here for the first time and as I walked in the decor was amazing. Great location. I had the Cesar salad with anchovies, the dressing was delicious!! $5 flat bread and pizza for happy hour very tasty. Went there for lunch on a Friday. First it was beautiful out and we sat on their deck. It overlooks the centennial Lakes lake and it was really nice. They have happy hour from 2-6 every day with a few good deals. One is the flatbread or pizza for $5.00. I had the bar b-que chicken pizza. The crust was thin and crunchy. The toppings were a nice mixture of chicken, cheese, onion and the right amount of sauce. The waitress went out of her way to keep our drinks filled. I asked for a glass of ice once and was rewarded with a glass of ice with every fill. The only negative was the dish person at the end of the meal trying to clean the table and take our glasses while we were still drinking. This happened a few times. I Can't review the restaurant because I was never able make a reservation. I called 3 times and had to listen to a very long message then when she said to hold for a hostess, I was hung up on the 1st time, got a busy signal the 2nd time, finally got a voice the 3rd time and when I said that I would like to make a reservation, she said "just a minute please" and put me on hold again and another message began telling me about the whole menu. I finally gave up and wonder who's idea of customer service that was. I'd love to talk to the manager but don't know how I would ever be able to get ahold of him short of going to the restaurant in person. Bad!!! read more

I have eaten at Tavern on France many times. Generally a pleasant experience. I really enjoyed their Sunday brunches in the pre pandemic days. Their build your own salads are great too. However, today my experience was disappointing. My server was pleasant but mostly elsewhere -- other servers filled the gap. My biggest frustration was in receiving a rare to medium rare burger when I asked for medium well. I showed the server after I was eventually able to get his attention. He offered to throw it on the grill longer. I said no thank you, just please provide feedback to improve future burgers. So that's my story. I still like Tavern 23. Okay, the very best thing about this place is the back terrace that overlooks the south lake at Centennial lakes. It's a beautiful area, and it's relaxing to sit out on the patio on a nice night with a drink or two and appetizers. The food was good. We had sliders, sushi and pizza. Pizza was probably the best, but even the sushi was surprisingly good (since this is not a sushi bar). The sangria was underwhelming, but there are many other drink choices on the menu. But go for the ambiance, it's the best outdoor seating around. read more

My favorite Tavern in the Edina area and it's the perfect location right by Centennial Lakes Park. They have such good deals on happy hour and Sunday specials. I love ordering the sriracha soy edamame (there was something like that at Chino Latino's that they discontinued so I was excited nonetheless about that, still not the same but similar) also the spicy tuna roll during happy hour. I've ordered sushi a lot there and can say their young ginger they serve with the sushi tastes fresh (that's always something to pay attention to). On Sundays they have a deal on flatbreads/pizza and am glad they have more than 2 vegetarian options--I really like the spinach & artichoke flatbread but the wood fired artisan style pizza is good too. The restaurant is contemporary and very open, I can see this space being a nice option to host a wedding reception. For the most part I appreciate Tavern23, especially if you're a hockey fanatic! read more

Surprised to see such low reviews! We went here on a Friday night for dinner 7pm. Restaurant was busy but not packed. Our server was not overwhelmed, she was great and accommodating. Chips and queso for apps. Great! Loved the flavor. We all got sandwiches and burgers and those were great. Fries for a side was a good choice- loved their fries! Ate them all! Flourless chocolate torte for dessert and that was delish also! Would def go back read more

Walking from a nearby hotel, we were delighted with Tavern 23 as 8 of us arrived from recently arrived flights. We shared appetizers, and ordered a variety of sandwiches and entrees. Staff was great, as well as the food. We recommend! read more

2/25/2018: This is an update to my previous 5 star review(see below). The last two times we have been in, the service simply has not been good. Please note that we have been in at least a dozen times since they remodeled and I reviewed the first time. We waited 12 minutes tonight for someone to come to our table, even longer the last time. The meatloaf is still amazing as are the potstickers. I really hope they can get the service where it needs to be to keep this place going. The bearded bartenders before were very friendly and attentive- now, the new staff doesn't seem to want to be there. It is odd because servers will walk past your table and not even acknowledge that you're sitting there. Last time, I watched as two servers watched TV for a good five minutes before taking their drinks to other tables and not realizing that one of them was our server who hadn't even greeted us yet. We were putting our coats on to leave when he came over to us with water glasses. We decided to stay then and again tonight, one of us had started to put on their coat before the server came over. Once engaged, the server was good until we wanted to leave, she simply disappeared- we went up to the bar to wait for her so we could check out. OLD REVIEW: Not sure why this only has 2.5 stars. Granted, not everything on the menu is amazing (French dip) but we just had the meatloaf and spicy mac n cheese and both were amazing. The only reason they are getting a 3 star rating is because the food was good. This place is changing constantly, so I should have known going into it, that it was not going to be great. But, I had hope! I made reservations online, you can choose table or hightop, I picked hightop. We waited in line, they go to seat us at a table. Ummm no. I asked if we could have a high top. I had no clue who our server was because we had about 5 different people helping us. I do believe it was the manager that we had at the table once we tried asking her a couple questions, she seemed very bothered by us taking up her time, would not even look us in the eye. We wanted a shot of good spiced whiskey, we got fireball :( ok wait it gets better it was $10!!!!! You could have warned me Miss! I could have bought the bottle for that price geezzz.... Enough negative, let's get onto the food. Hubbie & I split the meal, started off with queso dip, really good. Wishing it was a larger amount. Then we split a Reuben and fries, again really good!
