Can I rate this place 1/2 star? The bar at this place may be OK, but the food is NOT good! And it's inconsistent! My mom ordered the Mongolian beef for lunch a few days ago and it was crispy and good. Tonight my husband ordered it and it was not crispy, and had very little sauce. No comparison to what was served a few days ago! I ordered the beef stroganoff and it was tasteless!! No matter how much salt, pepper and soy sauce I added, it was not worth the calories. Plus, the bucatini pasta is nearly impossible to eat. I don't know how many times I got hit in the face by a noodle! Quit with the bucatini already! Very disappointing meal. Even though this place is a block from home, we will not be back! read more

This restaurant was mediocre and over priced when it was Lou Nanne's and it is still so as Tavern 23. Ordered the mac and cheese and it seemed like they squirted too much cheese whiz sauce into the entree...cheese was gross and there was waaaaaaaay too much of it. Everything is priced way over its value. Order a scotch on the rocks and you will pay $20 with tip! Restaurant was largely empty and the reason why is the quality vs the prices. If they significantly drop their prices to match the ambiance and quality I think they will do better. Also, mac and cheese isn't the only thing we've had there, just one of many examples. Disappointed , especially since this place isn't cheap. We were a party of 5 and our drinks arrived at 3 different times. The restaurant wasn't even 1/4 full. The food all arrived cold. The fries were cold , burnt and all tiny broken pieces . The servings were small for a tavern setting. Where to start. Ordered the French onion soup, it was OK but extremely salty. I realize this is a salty soup, but it tasted as if they added extra salt and there is no need for that. I ordered the Bolognese pasta. Hmmm. More pasta than sauce and the sauce was chuckles than any bolognese that I've had, and I've had some good ones. This was not very good. Finally, the crime brûlée. What was that? It basically tasted like really firm, not creamy, custard that had been smoked over a campfire. The two flavors do not match up in a pleasant tasting desert. We have been meeting for happy hour here for a couple years and it was the best happy hour for the money by far. Unfortunately, that has changed in November 2021, as prices have gone up on both food and drinks. They still have the $3 and $4 beers, which is good, but the price for mixed drinks and food on the happy hour menu has increased by 25-40%. That's a big jump and should be reconsidered before they price increase themselves out of business. read more

I have always liked Tavern 23 food, service, and ambiance. I would have given them a 5 star review before last night. We went there last night for late night happy hour. Before going into the restaurant we checked the website to confirm that they still offer the happy hour. When we were ready to order our server told us that they no longer offer the happy hour as of yesterday. I told her that we were surprised that they continue to show this as an option on their website and that we wouldn't have chosen this restaurant if we had known that. She didn't offer an apology or an explanation but said that several other customers were disappointed. I think that a business should honor a special that is advertised on their website. read more

Come here on Sundays! They have full-size pizzas for $5. Besides that, they have delicious cocktails and great apps. I actually have never ordered a legit entree here, but love to come here for happy hour. One of the better happy hour spots in Edina. This place is definitely busier during the week after work than it is on the weekends. So if you want to hit up a cheap pizza, go on Sunday! They have some beer/wine deals all day on Sunday too. read more

Loud due to the concrete floors (= really loud inside), lots of TV's with sports (thus the "Tavern" in the name). No real character inside; could be any mall spot in America. Food was C. Calamari tasted frozen, crab cakes were decent. NY Strip steak was advertised as "the same as they served when it was a real steak house;" it was fair. The fries were especially weak. Wife had the walleye which was decent. Service was a B. Prices were less than steakhouse but higher than they should have been. Lots of much better choices, especially in the Edina area. Didn't arrive with a reservation on a Friday night. Were told to wait 25 minutes for a table, but ended up finding a table in the open seating bar area. Started out with the guacamole appetizer which was more than enough for 2 people. We were interested in trying other apps on the menu as well. I chose the prime rib sandwich for my entree, good not great. My significant other chose the Lou's double stack. She would not stop talking about how good it was all night (reminded me of a double double with animal sauce from In-&-Out burger). The service was prompt and friendly. Upscale sports bar ambiance (hockey theme from past life as Nanny's steak house) with pretty good food. Mid price range food but many cleverly named drinks were pricey. Tables are well spaced so the noise level isn't too bad. Two levels with the bar and elevated from the main dining room which takes reservations . Seemed like there were more people eating than drinking and many families . Our table had a mixed food experience- really good spinach and artichoke pizza/flatbread, nice burgers but the stroganoff pasta entree came with spaghetti instead of the classic noodles and the sauce was skimpy on both meat and mushrooms. Fries came with garlic salt which surprised one of the eaters. Guess it's better to stick with sports bar food . read more

This place was formerly Lou Nanne's. It was recommended by the locals here. It did not disappoint. Great beer and cocktail menu. The margarita (can't remember exact name) was very good. The smokey reposado was a nice change from a routine margarita. We ordered the Las Vegas roll with crab instead of salmon and it was outstanding! (not fans of salmon, but the rest of the roll sounded good so we asked to substitute) Ahi tuna sandwich was perfectly cooked and quite good. Nanne's bolognese was good, but a little on the salty side. Service was great and would recommend this place to anyone. The menu has something for everyone and the atmosphere is easy contemporary which allows for casual or dressy. read more

It's a fine place to stop after work. The patio had a 55 minute wait on a Wednesday. The food is fine, nothing to talk about. Happy hour is only served by the bar and it's seat yourself... which good luck finding somewhere to sit. We got somewhere in the lower dining area immediately. Service was so slow, we probably saw our waitress once. Never checked on us to see if we wanted more drinks after serving us one almost 10 or more minutes after sitting. And repeatedly we were told that you can't move your seating, so if you sit inside you cannot wait for outside seating because they will not transfer your tab to another area of the restaurant. read more

Visited Tavern 23 over the lunch hour. Awesome vibe. Laid back atmosphere but still upscale enough to be considered fancy. Service was great. Waitstaff was on top of refilling drinks. As for the food, our table of 6 all tried different entrees. Everything from Asian to Italian to American to Mexican. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I myself tried the turkey burger with goat cheese and honey mustard. I added avocado, tomatoes, and lettuce. Honey mustard was savory and not overpowering. The goat cheese was tangy and added to the burgers flavor. The turkey burger was juicy and flavorful. Probably the best turkey burger I've ever had. Their French fries are to die for. Thin, crispy, awesome seasoning. Almost don't need ketchup, and I'm a huge ketchup person. 10/10 would recommend. Also heard their French dip is unreal. Trying next time. read more

My wife and I moved to the area recently and with most restaurants re-opening now, we were eager to find a close place that wasn't a chain. We have been here twice in the past week and we love it!! We came here for lunch one day with a friend, and once for happy hour. I have great news for patio folks: happy hour is on the patio too!! Not many places do this, and I love that they do. We had drinks and a pizza on the happy hour menu for $5. The pizza was fantastic! I was surprised how good the pizza was. I couldn't stop talking about it after, my wife was getting annoyed! When we came for lunch I got the glazed salmon and I was thrilled to find the one place in the area that knows how to cook fish. This was cooked perfectly! A great char on the outside while med rare on the inside. We love this place and have told many people about it already. The inside is very big and comfortable, the patio is beautiful and great views of the lake, and they have a fantastic menu with very reasonable pricing. it was my first time visiting this place with my sisters. I am from Sweden and I thought I was going to get a better treatment here in the US, it was a horrible experience. there Was no water or utensils at my table and they brought them after my meal arrived and i had to wait forever after asking for water and utensils. The glass of the drink they brought me broke into half and they still charged me for it after they told me they'll replace it with another one For free. I was so excited after reading the menu and looking at the pictures and reviews online to have dinner here on a early Wednesday night. When we walked in the dining room it was completely empty with the exception of a few tables around the outside booths. We were asked if we had a reservation, which we did not because, you know it was Wednesday. We were told there was a 90 minute wait until any available tables could be seated, because there was "so many reservations ." We went somewhere else that had ready seating and then I decided to look online and saw that OpenTable had so many opportunities to get reservations that it was clear they were not full. It's hard to imagine that a restaurant would hold easily 20 tables for OpenTable and turn away people they were actually at the door, but I was not the only one and most of us went elsewhere to find somewhere to eat. read more

My wife and I have eaten here several times and always enjoyed it. We had a party of six so we suggested this might be a good option. I had the walleye sandwich as did another in our party while my wife had the maui tacos. The walleye sandwich had a generous portion of walleye but unfortunately mine was very mushy and like so many sandwiches these days the buns were unable to hold everything that was packed into it so both myself and our guest ended up using a fork to eat most of the sandwich. Unfortunately my wife had the same experience with the tacos because there was so much meat and fixins on the small tortilla that she ended up eating them with a fork. Really?? Having to eat tacos with a fork?? My fervent plea to restaurants....either use larger buns or in this case torillas or don't try to pack every condiment on the menu into your sandwiches. We all get tired of having half of the burger or sandwich oozing out all over the table or on us. Worst restaurant experience ever. Horrible service, rude and unprofessional waitress. I went with with a group of friends for Happy Hour in October. We sat in the bar section. Our waitress was horrible. She pretty much ignored us and after one drink and a few appetizers she brought us our tab. We asked if she was leaving and if we had to close out. She said no. So we told her we'd like to order another drink. It took her forever to bring us another round of drinks. Her section was not that busy. She spent most of the evening folding silverware into napkins. We closed our tab and she never came back to collect so all of our group except 2 of us left. My friend and I waited and waited and she still never came to get the tab. So we took our tab, money, and to go boxes up to the bar. She did come rushing over in a panic to collect our tab at the bar. I left her a 10% tip which was very generous considering the absolute horrible service we got from her. She came back with the receipt and got right between my friend and I who were now sitting at the bar. She aggressively shook the receipt at me and said "Is this right?" I said "Yes, that is correct". She shook it again and said "this is seriously all you are leaving me on your tab?" I again said "Yes, that is correct". She stormed off. Then she decided to hang out at the bar and glare at us. I've never felt so uncomfortable around wait staff in all my life. My friend and I decided to leave. I got up to use the restroom before leaving and she saw me and shouted "well, you win some, you lose some!" as I walked by her. This was on a Friday night. On Monday, I called and reported the incident to a manager who said that her behavior was rude and unprofessional and they do not tolerate that and they didn't want to lose any customers. The manager told me that she was going to bring this to the attention of the GM and the owner and that I would hear back from someone in a few days. A month later, I heard nothing, so I called to speak with the manager I spoke to last month. I was told by an employee that the manager was not there and asked what I was calling about. I told him and he said he was familiar with what I was talking about and that the situation has been resolved. I asked him what that meant because I heard back from no one. He said the waitress was talked to and they listened to her side of the story and she was given a warning. I asked if she still worked there and he said yes. Unbelievable! Really sad that this type of rude and unprofessional behavior is tolerated here. You didn't lose just one customer, but no one from my group will be back and we won't recommend you to anyone either. This waitress does not belong in the service industry and it's sad that you will keep someone who did this employed. read more

We went for their new breakfast feature. I had the corned beef hash and honest to God, it was fabulous! Best ever. We thought Original Pancake House had the best but this is by far much better. Pen exploded all over my expensive sweatshirt and purse and waitress did not help at all except give me a towel. She also proceeded to see if the pen had exploded in her apron and said it was not her fault. Which it wasn't it would have just been nice to get some sort of a service reimbursement. I had the Nanne's Bolognese for lunch today. It was meaty with good noodles. The beer list is somewhat small but has some really nice beers. Toppling Goliath and Modist Dreamyard. The happy hour menu looked good. The service was great and the staff seemed genuinly happy to be there. My lunch guest had a sushi roll. My only recommendation would be to put some additional effort into the sushi. Decent presentation, not great. read more

Food was just ok. Ordered the chips and queso - all I could taste was peanuts on these chips and they weren't salty at all. Caesar salad tasted very very tangy and not in a good way. Crab crunch roll was good but comparable to every other sushi place - wasn't anything special. The waitress forgot to put our food and drink order in and didn't notice until 40 mins after. Thankfully she comped our food and we just paid for the drinks. Don't feel the need to ever go back here again. The cheap prices on the food explains the quality perfectly!
