Let's start by saying, we are from CT and I let my boyfriend pick all of our adventures on this vacation. Logically being away from home he did some research and picked Tavern 27 and I didn't look into it until we were getting dressed to leave our hotel. Well let me just say the one place this tavern fails is that the pictures I found online don't nearly do it justice. The atmosphere is so quaint and cozy, very rustic yet inviting. Built in an old house, all of the seating is in various different rooms of this house. Right inside the door a beautiful piano with a custom table built around it for seating. The piano player, a gentleman named Bob was great. Many other reviews I have read have various things to say about the owners. My take on it, when we made the reservation we spoke directly to the owner. When we walked in the owner was running around seating guests , greeting people and was noticeably sweating as he ran around with a smile on his face. He greeted us and was very welcoming, asked if we had been before, told us he was just going to check on our table and he would have us seated the moment it was ready. Once we were sat , he gave us a rundown of the evening. This is a gentleman that is proud of what he does, I know some has said he comes off as boastful, but I just got a very different vibe. All of the servers and the wait staff were very attentive. We drank far too much water just because the staff never let our glasses get more that 1/2 empty. The food was great ! Service was well paced and delicious. Was it perfect, no. One of the newer servers did incorrectly describe a course, but when he realized his mistake came back to the table to apologize and correct himself. Some of the courses came out of order than what was on the menu, but the meal still flowed nicely and the courses still made sense in the order they were presented. The food was elegant, delicious food, thought out well and not over complicated. Definitely composed so that the ingredients are the star and really could shine. Again other reviewers have said that they left hungry, we left very full, neither of us could finish dessert ( which is a tragedy because that cheesecake was delicious). With this being a New Year's Eve seating , I feel the owners thought of everything. The table was provided with noise makers and hats, they had decorated the rooms for New Years with simple touches. The cap on the evening was not the expected champagne toast , but a fireworks display put on by the owner outside complete with hot cider to keep you warm in the cutest mug that you get to take home with you! My only tiny negative is that the cider was no kidding hot , as I heard another diner comment , just a few degrees below scalding. Even with its high temperature the cider was a yummy compliment to fireworks under the moonlight. Such a great evening , we can't wait to go back. read more

Our experience was a lot like the chickpea fries we ordered: unconventional, yet mediocre. We entered on a Friday night without a reservation (don't do that), and luckily got seated at the bar. The service was friendly and attentive for the first half of our night, and then just okay. Ordering vegetarian, we opted for the mezze plate which had tasty cheese, charred fluffy bread, and flavorful pickled veggies (that left our mouths on fire). My girlfriend devoured the cheese trying to stop the pain. The powerhouse salad was very okay, even considering the over use of dried fruits. The chickpea fries tasted great, though were dry and crumbly. We left stuffed as the plates are filling. The drink menu didn't include prices, that's notable because we ended up ordering two $18 drinks. In their defense they warn in bold that some drinks are double servings. read more

Overall good experience. The restaurant is in the same site as a golf course, so it's got some interesting golf decor. We were headed to a concert at the pavilion so we thought we'd give it a try with such high yelp reviews! We had several tapas, our favorites were the prosciutto wrapped dates and the blue cheese dip. Holy yum! Only reason I don't give it 5 stars is they are definitely under staffed and it made things a bit slow. Existing staff make it work and are wonderful. Some may feel that food is the only aspect of being drawn back to a particular restaurant. Perhaps they believe that as long as the presented food is consistently delicious, just as their tastebuds remember each plate to be, then all is well. However, this may not be the case for all who like to enjoy a satisfying meal, an enjoyable experience, and a night out with those they enjoy spending time with. Last night, our family visited Tavern 27 for the 4th time. The first two visits were great. Food, atmosphere, and servers made us agree that we would definitely be back. The third visit began with me calling to make a reservation. During this call the woman who answered the phone (first name begins with a "B") and who took down all of our necessary information, felt the need to correct my grammar. Or so she thought, because actually she was the one incorrect when "correcting " me. Little does she know I'm a veteran teacher. Once there, we enjoyed our meal, as well as the interaction with the staff. On our last visit, we were asked by three different servers if we would like alcoholic beverages. Our party of five declined each time. Our water glasses were filled twice by "B" and she was thanked each time, but she chose to ignore our politeness. Once we received our orders we were not checked in on at all. Our next dishes were then brought out while our empty dirty plates remained in front of each of us. Still, no one asked if we needed anything or if we were enjoying our meals. At the end of our experience, we asked for a couple of to-go containers. While waiting, and waiting, and waiting for them to arrive we asked another server, who happened to seat us at our table, for the same items. Her response, " I'm not your waitress, I only seated you." We responded, " I understand you sat us, but we have been waiting for to-go containers and no one has returned." We were then brought our containers and then that same girl hurried to the bar and proceeded to talk about us to "B." While we watched them nod in our direction, our furry grew. Although the food is delicious, the help ruins it. "B" should receive some direct training on social skills. As well as the girl who sat us. I haven't dined at Tavern 27, but Trolley 27 (outdoor - in the back) is a true hidden gem. We went there this 4th of July for a couple of cocktails/chips/waffle sandwiches ... and it was all delicious! And, as a Celiac, 100% GF was reassuring. And the staff there is fabulous! I would give it 4 out of 5 for the price to portions... but the portions are so well done its hard to be mad. What a "sweet" treat! My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this on our vacation on a Sunday night and were impressed. The cozy and quaint restaurant added a unique twist on tapas and made everything enjoyable. Not only was the menu fun - it was ALSO MOSTLY GLUTEN FREE! The owner and wait staff told us they have a dedicated gluten free fryer ! How amazing is that ! Additionally in the back of the restaurant there's a breakfast bar which is 100% gluten free and no chance of dross contamination. They're interconnected ! Although they were out of fried calamari - which I will come back to try one day - the steak bites, amazing lobster corn soup, French onion dip, sweet potato chips and AND GLUTEN FREE PEACH AND AMARETTO (my favorite !!!!) What a wonderfully pleasant surprise! We came here without a reservation (don't do this) and we were sat at the piano bar where we listened to live music played by Bob. The food was varied and all delicious. The root vegetable salad and scotch egg were standouts, the duck confit eggrolls very good, and the Brussels sprouts were nice but could have used a little time in a pan. The chocolate torte for dessert was delicious. Most of all, though, the atmosphere was rustic and warm. It's an adorable restored house with great decorations, and the waitstaff are all attentive and friendly without being overbearing. The food came out 1 or 2 at a time, making for a lovely unrushed dining experience. This would be a great place for an intimate dinner with a special person, family or friends (my "date" was my teenaged son who loved it). Best part - the price! Dinner for 2 was $68 with tax and tip! Met both owners, they were as exceptional as their food! Diverse and fun menu for all. Loved the experience and so happy we "stumbled" on this gem. Absolutely amazing! My fiancé and I stopped by for some tapas for lunch and loved everything we got. We ordered the Brussels sprouts, chicken with Asian ginger, heaven shrimp, bacon and blue cheese stuffed dates and the potato stuffed steak. My fiancé favorite was the dates, so delicious.. Where do we start? No seriously that was the question we asked ourselves as we drove through the back roads from Laconia to Meredith NH.....We had just left a beautiful wedding, but had 4 hours until the reception.....it was beautiful outside.....we were just looking for that "right" place to go to wait.....and then we found it......our new favorite home away from home.....and I mean this literally.....we drove by and I saw the sign ....outside bar and food......my silver fox aka my guy and I looked at each and in unison smiled and said let's try it! So we turned around and turned into the parking lot........we didn't see any outside bar .......but then as we came to the back of the parking lot and the area opened up...to the right were beautiful mountainous views and to our left the golf greens......and right in the middle of this gorgeous view sat this amazing rustic farm style barn with an open bar area....a gated entry way and...wrought iron fencing surrounding out door tables and a hearty "Welcome New People" from the most gentle and kind faced bartender...Ray.....then a unison of hello's from patrons sitting.....no not just sitting.....relaxing and welcoming us into this amazing warm, kick your feet back, mingle, tell us about yourselves.....so the chatter began....the amazing local brews started flowing.....and the FOOOOOD came......and let me just tell you.....I've traveled all over the world and I've eaten at amazing restaurants...BUT...this food was like soul food.....and when Leslie served it up she...she did it as if she was serving two of her best buddies .....with an amazing sense of humor....and pride......we loved the food...we loved the atmosphere...but mostly we fell in love with this amazing couple who we were lucky enough to have such great conversations with that by the time we left ......well we felt like this is where we should've been on this day.....and that we made two new friends and found a place that we will recommend everyone goes and finds like we did.....Did I mention that as we sat down and drank our beer......our song played on the little beat-box on the bar.....call me corny....but this spot was meant for us to find......and I highly recommend anyone who likes to try new things or is just looking for that sweet little adventure on warm day.......go...go...go...see this amazing spot and meet these two very cool and personable people ....who I can assure you will welcome you into their bar like they would welcome you into their home!!!! We have been a handful of times and cannot say enough good things. Tapas is a great way to share an evening w/great company, delectable food and exceptional drinks. The fresh fruit martinis are to die for. The Tavern's ambiance is comfortable. Presentation is whimsical and creative, but the flavor of all the dishes is what really stands out. I have been here many times and had written a good review but felt the need to change it. On our last visit the owner decided to start yelling at the bartender over our shoulders. It made the meal very difficult to enjoy. It down right ruined the experience and made all of us have a horrible time. As we left, we explained calmly to the owner that he had put us in an awkward place. He decided to follow us into the parking lot to tell us why he was mad at her. She had left the phone off the hook so people could not call in for reservations. Ok he may have a problem but I am sitting there eating and don't need it to become my problem. Please know he was loud about this in the restaurant. He actually raised his voice at my wife, who only said again that he should not yell at his employes with us sitting between him and them. I asked him to leave us alone and we left. not sure if I will go back. The food is good but this guy is a nut job. Be carful.... read more

The food for the most part was exceptional; however, it was one of the worst dining experiences of my life. I was in the area on a weekend trip with my boyfriend a few weeks ago, and decided to try something unique. When we got inside it was a little busy but we got a table quickly...then 20 minutes later finally got drinks. We were excited to try some things on the menu, and being familiar with tapas dining were expecting a slow serving style..but this was ridiculous. We probably spent about 2 1/2 hours there, with a solid half hour of the owner just blabbing about how amazing he and his restaurant and wife are. To be honest it was humorous. Meanwhile, his staff is running around struggling to get things done with so few members. We felt bad for the staff because if was clear they weren't the problem-it was a problem with the management. I will say the chocolate torte was to die for, but the experience was ruined by the pretentious owner. If he wasn't bragging about his minuscule golf accomplishments, he was drinking at the bar, on his computer in front of customers, or screaming at a young waitress whom appeared on the verge of tears. Make reservations before you go. The place looked empty and we were turned away for not having reservations. I would expect, "would you like to sit at the bar?" Or "can I make a reservation for you?" The host's immediate reaction was rejection rather than problem solving and that's why I had a bad impression. Beyond weird. I can't believe no one has mentioned how awkward this place is. The poor staff seemed scared of the owner. Their greeting/spiel is...interesting. They act like tapas are a new invention or something. Food was fine. Nothing special. I actually liked the garlic poppers, but my breath didn't. We had a reservation on a Sat. Evening, showed up on time, walked in the door and the owner was there talking to a couple about how long they have been open and basically tooting his own horn. There was no acknowledgement from him or any staff. We stood there, we read the drink specials sign, and noted how quiet and dead it was. Oh my gosh. This was a place we went to on a whim - literally using Urban Spoon on a cell. Thanks, Urban Spoon, for one of the best meals I have had in a while! I'm a huge tapas fan after eating it pretty much daily during a trip to Barcelona, Spain. This restaurant does tapas justice. All of the food is fresh and the owners do their best to keep everything locally grown, farm fresh, and simply delicious. You can taste the difference in the food! It is fresh, quality, and just so good. You can tell the owners love their restaurant. They are extremely friendly guys who make you feel welcome. For a second I almost forgot I was out to eat and not at a friend's house eating some delicious homemade food. The ambiance helped with this as well - this is a gorgeous old house they restored but kept the integrity of it. Its warm, charming, and lovely. Everything down to the flatware is rustically gorgeous. You feel comfortable the moment you walk in the door - literally - because someone will be there with a smiling face and make small talk with you throughout your entire experience. OK, on to the delicious FOOD! Although I don't personally have any food allergies they are really conscious of those who do. A HUGE amount of the menu is gluten free which is something you rarely see. Since everything is freshly prepared I'm pretty confident they have a workaround for any other type of allergy. You certainly won't miss a thing at this place if you have any dietary restrictions. Inside Out Pepper Poppers - delicious. 10 bite size poppers with a great blend of cheesey and spicy kick. I'm a non-spicy person but these were great. Steak Roulade - again, delicious. The sirloin had a wonderful flavor as did the potatoes. It was a great "meat and potatoes" mix in your mouth. I'm not sure what spice was in the potatoes but it gave it a nice zest.. and the meat was so fresh the flavor was almost boastful. Tapande Duo - delicious (see the trend?!)... what a great item to start off with. The fig mixed with olive was just the right amount of sweetness and was so good. It mixed wonderfully in your mouth. The olive with jalapeno wasn't spicy to me at all but was a really nice flavor. Haddock Bites - probably some of the best haddock I have had in a while, if not ever. So fresh it was like it was just caught. Not deep fried at all and the batter they used was so good. Their homemade tarter sauce was great as well. My fiance, who is an adamant hater of seafood, even took a bite (I have NEVER gotten him to take a bite of my fish dish before) and even he said it was OK. Doesn't sound like much of a compliment but coming from him I promise it is!!!! The dessert and wine list aren't priced (they verbally tell you the dessert list) but don't fret - it is still very fairly priced. My apple bread (yummmm) was $4 and my fiance's trio of brule (creme, chocolate and I forget the 3rd) was $6 - very fair! His glass of pino was $8 each. Can't go wrong with these prices! If you are in the area, do yourself a favor and go to Tavern 27. Great company, great ambience, FABULOUS food and very fair prices. You will really enjoy this dining experience. Perfect from start to finish. The staff, the food, the wine and ambiance were absolutely perfect for a taps restaurant. I honestly can't think of one bad aspect of our night, and we dine out a lot. I was surprised to find this place nicely nestled away from the downtown Laconia in a beautiful rural area a couple of miles up the road on the edge of a 3-par golf course. However, a ninth hole snack shack this is not! From the outside it looks no different than any of the other two story houses that pepper the green pastures in the area. From the inside its a quaint, comfortable bar and tapas restaurant. The decoration is perfectly understated. A subdued megenta tone with an adobe-like feel decorated with small culturally authentic paintings and light fixtures that give one the true sense of being in a small tapas place off the beaten path in Spain. All without seeming to "try" and look that way by over-decoration. So much so that even the magenta felt pool table situated near the bar, though obviously american, looks like it belongs. The tapas was excellent and the options so abundant it was hard to decide where to start. Definitely a lot of seafood options. The lobster cuke rolls were fantastic, as were the spicy shrimp skerwers . The haddock bites (that at first look like your common-faire) are deep-fried, spicy and served with an excellent tartar sauce and though it seemed out of place on the table next to the other unique tapas offerings was an execellent compliment to the spicy shrimp. We got full early and did not get the chance to order more as the portions were pretty decent. The water they serve is spring and served from a tall glass bottle. Nice touch. Also, any bar i mosey up to and has Michael Collins as an option and sitting in my sights is worth an extra half star. All of this in addition to (and perhaps because of) the coziness makes this a very nice place to take a date. Tavern 27 was, in a word, spectacular. Went a couple months ago with my boyfriend. American tapas. First, at the bar the owner recommended an awesome bottle of wine. The portion size they reccommended was perfect (I think we had about 4 plates between the two of us and a dessert). Our waitress was really friendly and sweet and backed up all of our choices. If you order the calimari, get it LIGHTLY breaded... they give you the option. Its just so good, prob the best calimari I've had. It was just such a great vibe, we almost just wanted to stay. This would have been our second visit. We tried for a second time because of such good overall reviews. We will NEVER go back. The owner seated us right in front of the window air conditioner that was on high. Definitely no one could have sat at that table...it was COLD! The next room was empty so we asked if we could be seated at a different location. The owner said "this is the only table available..so..thank you for coming." Really? Not: have a seat at the bar, we can work something out ...etc..." There were service issues on our first visit but the food was good. Once the 4 of us got outside we all agreed the owner was arrogant and rude. We went to O's restaurant nearby and had fabulous service, food, atmosphere, wonderful wine list and martini bar. Go to O's and forget about Tavern 27. Clearly the owner(s) doesn't get it. There were no apologies and no effort to remedy the situation, just an abrupt dismissal. "You may forget the exact words someone used or exactly what they said, but you will never forget how they made you feel." You made all 4 of us feel we were not welcome.... If I could describe this establishment in one word it would be Narnia. This gem exists in laconia, but the moment you step through the doors or onto the patio of the outdoor bar, you're transported into an atmosphere entirely of it's own, and everything about this local feels distinctive and authentic. I have been here on multiple occasions, and every, single, time, I am reminded of why I return- I cannot imagine the charm will ever wear off. Nothing here says ordinary, in fact, between the well thought out menu, drinks, and forever attentive staff, this place has a truly a one of a kind atmosphere. You cannot help but feel like you are stepping into something that cannot compare to any other bar or restaurant in town - Tavern 27 is a class of its own. read more

Interesting experience - I wanted to give 3-1/2 stars but you can't on Yelp. Found the restaurant on Yelp and called for reservation. It is summer in the Lakes Region so we were only able to get two seats at the bar. Got there and Phil greeted us. Very personable. Explained the concept. Brought us complimentary sweet potato chips with white bean hummus. First impressions? The place is tiny. And there isn't a square inch of wall or floor space that doesn't have something on it. I found it a touch claustrophobic and distracting. We ordered drinks...I had the Cucumber Lime and my husband had a beer. My cocktail was delicious (strong but delicious). The menu is ... overwhelming. There's almost too much. We ordered the Powerhouse Salad to share and then the Original Stuffed Dates, the Grilled Shrimp with Sweet Chili Sauce, and the Bacon, Black & Bleu Tenderloin Pinchos. The salad was delicious - very lightly dressed (I can't stand a salad that's drenched in dressing) and full of yummy ingredients. The grilled shrimp were perfect and the Bacon, Black & Bleu Tenderloin Pinchos were our favorite. The dates were delicious and wrapped in chicken - which, in our opinion, did absolutely nothing for the dates. They chicken was dry and tasteless. We preferred the stuffed dates alone. For dessert, we had the flourless chocolate cake which was delicious and a bread pudding which was fabulous (easily our favorite of the two desserts). We ended up sitting next to a lovely couple from Westchester (hi Ellen and David!) who had the artichoke bites (they liked them), they ordered the spicy pork with candied onion jam (the kitchen apparently lost their order so they ended up having to take it to go - they seemed unimpressed with it), and a plain cheese pizza (also not impressed with it). Overall, I would go back to the restaurant and would recommend it. It's quirky and different. I have to agree with a couple of other reviews that they seem understaffed. WOW is all I can say - excellent food selection and to make it even better excellent food! We were greeted by a fantastic server, and as it was our first time here, she gave us her spiel and advice on what to order and she was spot on! The Haddock bites (which weren't bites but haddock fingers) were absolutely delicious, light and flakey with a tremendous tartar sauce, and plenty of them. The calamari was divine, the Cauliflower Juju was amazing - and my husband doesn't even like cauliflower and he said it was great (that is a huge compliment!) It tasted very indian, which I loved! There were plenty of gluten free options, which was greatly appreciated as I'm celiac. Our other tapas - steak skewers in the T-27 sauce, which is a steak sauce that tastes more like fruit than spices were also fantastic!!! My only complaint is that there were 2 severs for the entire restaurant, and one was also the bartenter. I'm not sure how big the restaurant is, but it was big enough to warrant another server. They were running around doing everything - serving, bussing and the owner was also present, but he really didn't help them as far as I could see, he was friendly and talked with us for a while, but bragged that he only had 2 girls working as servers. As a patron, I could only feel bad for the servers and the fact that they were running ragged. It affected our service, we weren't checked up on & since the food was delivered by a kitchen staff person, we weren't asked how we were doing. We were handed our check and never were asked if we wanted to see a dessert menu, even though it was touted during the beginning spiel. The staff were great, my complaint isn't towards the staff but to the owner who was not helpful to the servers nor considerate of them. Two servers, one of whom is also the bartender was not enough and I hope he hires another server to alleviate their load. I'd have been more relaxed knowing that the servers weren't so stressed. I've worked in that world and know how it is, they needed another. We will return and hopefully to a more staffed and relaxing atmosphere! read more

In Yelp we trust! We discovered this insanely good gluten free friendly tapas place on Yelp close to our daughter's boarding school - and it was amazing. Highly recommended. Pro-tip: the filet mignon-bacon-bleu skewer is to die for. And the service is top notch. read more

I'm not reality sure why this place has such high reviews... I live in Connecticut and Boston and Providence are a short drive. We came here looking for a few good brews and some decent food... for sure don't try the calamari unless you like mushy, sandy texture. The chicken skewers were ok but nothing to rave about. Service was slightly sub par. Overall not worth the $ and DEFINITELY not a "tapas" bar...... no matter how "American" their spin. Disappointed for sure. read more

We stopped here right as they opened at lunch time this weekend and what a wonderful experience! We met one of the owners, Leslie, as she was picking flowers from the front garden for the tables. She was also our server that day and such a friendly and gracious host. The food was wonderful - delicious and artfully served! I highly recommend the chickpea fries and the steak roulade. Definitely a must try if you are in the area and looking for a cozy, delicious spot to eat. read more
