We stopped here right as they opened at lunch time this weekend and what a wonderful experience! We met one of the owners, Leslie, as she was picking flowers from the front garden for the tables. She was also our server that day and such a friendly and gracious host. The food was wonderful - delicious and artfully served! I highly recommend the chickpea fries and the steak roulade. This place was great! My husband and I ate here with another couple we were traveling with. They welcomed us without a reservation even though the website recommends reservations. We were there in the off-season though. The atmosphere was great with a lot of nice touches to the decor & artwork on the walls. Dinner & drinks were fantastic. We all ordered small plates to share. We tried the chickpea fries, lobster cuke rolls, combo poppers, cloud 9 shrimp, & steak roulade. Dessert was the bread pudding to share. The small plates were all fabulous, but the pepper poppers were a definite favorite. The bread pudding was good, but it was drier than I personally prefer - we took the leftovers & it was better the next day after it had soaked in the sauce longer. My only complaint was that they served their own house bottled water & there was no choice between that & regular tap water. I'm honestly not sure if they charged us for it, I didn't have a chance to ask my husband - if they didn't charge, then I actually have no complaint. I just prefer to have the choice if a restaurant does charge for bottled. Either way, it was excellent water too! We will plan to dine here again when in the area. read more

Absolutely outstanding food, excellent service and what a gem to find in the Laconia area. It was exhausting finding some quality food amidst the mess of touristy restaurants in downtown Laconia with all gross deep fried junk food. We've dropped in to Tavern 27 twice, without reservations -- once on Valentine's Day, if you can believe it -- and have been warmly welcomed, squeezed in, and served superb dinners. Our meal last night comprised the stacked spinach salad, chickpea fries, crab cakes, and beef tenderloin, accompanied with a nice bottle of Rioja, then capped with a dense chocolate cake. To the wonderful food, add a rustic tavern; friendly, attentive staff; and the "hands on" involvement of the owners, and you get five stars. For that reason, make reservations; don't count on being lucky. read more

You must visit Tavern 27 if you're in the area! All of the dishes are superb and the service is wonderful. I can't say enough about the staff/owner's interaction with our group. It was obvious everyone we came in contact with genuinely cared about us having a wonderful experience at their restaurant. I recently visited this cozy little tapas restaurant last week. My boyfriend and I were blown away. The atmosphere was cute and the staff was polite and friendly. I found this restaurant online because I have a gluten allergy. This was one of the best gluten free meals I have ever been served! This restaurant went above and beyond to cater to a gluten allergy. I was able to have fried tapas! They weren't just gluten free, they we're delicious as well! They really knew how to cook gluten free food well. My boyfriend (who doesn't have an allergy) was also amazed how amazing the food tasted. I would estimate 75% of the menu is gluten free. I love how they used lots of local ingredients and even offered organic items. I strongly encourage anyone, gluten allergy or not, to visit this restaurant. I know we will be back every time we're in Laconia! read more

We eat out often and have literally travelled the world. Seldom have we found a place as fabulous as tavern 27. This is not a typical tavern.... More like a quant, vintage piano bar/foodie paradise. The building was a 1700s pub for soldiers and the current proprietor knows how to run a restaurant. Food was to die for, service was great, and the piano player set the mood. Good selection of beer and wine, and all the food is scratch-made-to-order..... This place is worth driving a bit to visit. read more

My husband & I loved this place. The atmosphere was wonderful, the staff were very attentive and the food was fantastic. We started off with a free ap of flat bread and hummus then shared tapas (poppers, Brussels sprouts and shrimp). The poppers were different from the usual but they were delicious. I don't usually like shrimp and I thought it was fantastic (loved the sauce). We also liked the Brussels sprouts. For dessert we had the bread pudding- we almost licked the bowl clean! I understand we live in fast paced world an we want fast paced service, but is it so bad to sit down and enjoy each others company over drinks and food once in while? Sure the service is on the slow side, but it's meant to be that way, you're meant to enjoy your tapas, not scarf it down in 10 seconds and ask for the course. This restaurant had amazing food, service and atmosphere, and was extremely attentive to my vegan diet (which deserves 5 stars in its own right). OMG, Tavern 27 is UHmazing! The atmosphere is cozy, unique and welcoming. The menu is varied and eclectic. The complimentary sweet potato chips and white bean dip is pure deliciousness. The drink menu is ever changing and offers fun cocktails. My favorite has been the salted caramel bourbon. It was incredible! Plates are small and to be shared, though you will want to keep many to yourself! Some favorites include the artichokes stuffed with chèvre and candied pecans, the steak roulade, and the world's most delectable bread pudding! Interesting evening our first reaction was tepid as the house the tavern is in reminds me of a dim set on a Harry Potter movie. A good cleaning/organizing is in order. I sat next to a window filled with dead bugs. We were attracted to the menu that happily offered substitutions based on dietary needs. That part is true and we enjoyed the chickpea fries, mushroom spinach red pepper open faced sandwich. We really enjoyed the flat bread and asked for no cheese in all our orders. The service was spotty. The staff looked like it was running around more than it needed to. Also they appeared to not be happy with each other. But what blew our minds was that we were charged 7.00 for nutritional yeast. A suggested substitution for cheese. Cheese is expensive and nutritional yeast is cheap. I could buy two shakers for 7.00. We payed our bill and ran as fast as we could. Too bad the potential is there. read more

Wonderful meal, great drink selection, attentive staff. Great place for four of us to eat pre-concert. Chick pea fries, haddock bites, steak skewers, stuffed dates...all really delicious. This local, small business is amazing. We were greeted by the very friendly, personable owner and he stopped by our table several times to see how things were going. A complimentary, delicious appetizer was served AFTER the owner checked to see if we had any food allergies. The waitress helped us pick between the Pork bites and the Steak Roulade - she recommended the Pork and we were so happy she did - delicious! Just as we were beginning to eat the Shrimp dish, the owner happened to also be bringing us our steamed brussel sprouts and asked if we'd like to hear the story behind the creation of the Shrimp dish. It was a very unique story - only able to be told at such an intimate, small restaurant, by it's dedicated owner...you will have to go there and order the tasty tasty dish and ask for the story! In the past, O Restaurant and all the Common Man Restaurants in the area have been our favorites - this was our first time at Tavern 27 and it was quite impressive - it is now up there with the best of them! A great selection of veggie, seafood and meat dishes - something for everyone. We didn't get to try the pizza but it looked great and other people were raving about their food (my husband and I had the root vegetable bocadillo, steamed brussel sprouts, mustard crusted pork bites and cloud 9 grilled shrimp; 4 dishes for the 2 of us and we brought home leftovers!) The small, intimate, local feel was a real refreshing break from some of the larger places - definitely make a reservation! The service was excellent and we were given lots of time to enjoy our drinks and food and were never felt rushed or pushed out the door despite it being quite busy. This 236 year old house served food that was out of this world. Serving American style Tapas (a little more generous serving to share) with a unique flair and flavor, the food was beautifully presented, with unusual seasonings and spices and creative designs. Some of our favorites were the cucumber wrapped lobster rolls, the deviled egg with jalapeño, ginger spiced chicken and the spinach, goat cheese, balsamic reduction with candied pecans salad. They also brought us a several of their desserts of which the bread pudding was outstanding. Our party if eight was well taken care of as the service was also outstanding. It takes a while to enjoy the tapas as they come out one at a time so plan for two hours of fun and terrific food. read more

Great experience, great food, and great service! We arrived 15 minutes before closing, but they were happy to seat us. We had the duck confit rolls, the beef tenderloin pinchos, and the pepper poppers. All were outstanding. The tenderloin was one of the most tender cuts of meat I've ever had and cooked to a perfect medium rare as ordered. Crab bites were really dry, stacked spinach salad was described as "lightly dressed", there was a heavy amount of dressing, steak roulad was nothing more than mashed potatoes wrapped in a piece of (pretty chewy/fatty) roast beef cooked to well done - which the server told us! The tavern french fries were delicious, I could smell them across the room when they were delivered to another table and the cheddar truffle dipping sauce was delicious. The It's a date /blue were very good. As was our forager (mushroom) pizza. It's 50/50 here some stuff is really delicious and others were just eh.....I've been here several times and was always wowed this time unfortunately not so much. Will I go back? Innovative and fantastic drinks. Great staff/service and reasonable prices. Food was very very good especially the Cauliflower. We dine out very often and are hardcore foodies. Tavern 27 is one of my favorite restaurants. The environment is great and there is often a live piano player. They offer a wide variety of tapas all priced very fairly and they are bigger than most tapas I have had. The food is always fresh, interesting and delicious.
