A group of friends and I decided to come here for brunch. The atmosphere is nice but the service was a turn off. Out of 6 of us they messed up on 5 of our orders. They took back and the food they originally gave us and when one of my friends asked why they were taking it back the waitress was quick to say "it's not like we're going to give the sandwiches to another customer" so my friend asked "so you're going to throw out the sandwiches" and the Waitress stood quite.....another one of my friends ordered a hamburger ans asked for a hamburger medium well and the burger came out medium rare ... I could hear the burger mooing. When the bill finally came out we were charged for orders we never ordered added to our tabs... we were here 2.5 hours ... and it took less than 35 minutes to eat ... the rest was just a waiting game. its the first and last time I'll ever come here. read more

This place is waaay over-rated. Been there a handful of times. Was there on 10/05/2020 for a 5pm reservation. Had the steak tips medium that arrived well done. Asked to cook the green beans more as they are always hard as a rock. Still got them hard as a rock. I left no tip due to this and the cavalier attitude of the server. Literally 8 workers standing around near the bar area place was empty. I will not be back even if someone else is paying! Train your employees better! read more

Not anything special. Although I ordered a burger and the main entrees we're good. Looks just like a yard house and has the same feel just without the yards and tasty menu. Pink sangria wasnt very good... Very chalky tasting. Asked what the harpoon seasonal was she didn't know so went to go check. She came back and still couldn't remember. It's a warm summer night, around 9pm, so figuring we can get in for a drink and some pickies..... there's multiple tables empty along the open side of the restaurant which is the next best thing when you want to sit outside.... Plenty of drink options and beers on draft, along with a decent food menu. The large wrap around bar in the center is pretty cool and there is tons of seating in the place. We got mesquite chicken bowls which were delicious and plenty generous in size. read more

I have been to Tavern in the square twice. Once for a work event and the other for dinner with family. While at times I do feel the food is overpriced the quality is not bad. It's no 5 star restaurant but decent. They have a fire grill and the food is cooked fresh. They have fire grilled pizzas that are decent. Tavern in the square is one of my favorite places in Rhode Island. The wait staff is always so friendly and helpful, not to mention very helpful whenever someone has a tough time deciding what they want. They have a wide selection of drinks that could probably please everyone and their food is fantastic. I've never had a bad experience or asked my waiter/waitress to bring back food. I've been to Tavern a few times since the state opened back up restaurants and I've been pleased each time. They've really gone above and beyond to take care of the customers and practice social distance, not to mention making sure everyone is masked as well. Stopped in here after work one day and was really happy I did. Great craft beer selection! They also had a specialty drink to benefit a charity (in this case it was a pet rescue) and I really liked that commitment to the community. The drink was very good as were the appetizers we got (get the Fried Pickle Chips and the Bang Bang Broccoli!). My only complaint was how slippery the floor was! Absolutely awful experience. Went for an early dinner at 4:30. Waitress was obviously new and had no clue. Ordered appetizers twice while waiting for one of our guests to join us. First batch were good and came quickly. Second batch took forever. We all ordered burgers for dinner. After 30 minutes, server came by and said would be just a few more minutes. After another 15 minutes, she came by and said she forgot to enter the order. After two hours, we finally got our meal. Finally finished around 7:15. I normally love this place but tonight not so much. There was an issue with my wife's meal and when I brought it to their attention of the server was like ok and walked away. A few minutes later the manager approached us and after speaking to us told of he would give us a credit for the meal. We were handed a credit that didn't even cover the cost of the entree. Dinner here was awesome! I came here with the boyfriend and fam, so we asked for a table of four and got seated at a high top near the bar. I wish they would of put us in a booth, even the hightop booth would of been better because the floor was extremely slippery with whatever material they use on the floor and on the bottom of the chairs, they seemed to slide everywhere, it was a little uncomfortable. Our server was nice and attentive without disturbing our meal much and the food came out timely considering what we ordered. I ordered the rib plate and it was such a good size for the price the only thing was the ribs were a little over cooked but they did just fall off the bone AND THOSE HUSH PUPPIES! Those hush puppies were delicious, I grew up making shrimp hush puppies often and they almost live up to mine **if i can just toot my own horn for a minute** LOL. I will definitely be back, there still more I need to try on the menu! read more

Gave them a try last week! It was a Thursday night, and it was surprisingly super busy. Thankfully we didn't have to wait for a table as we were seated right away at a long booth. Soon we realized the kitchen was just on the other side of the booth we were seated at, so it was neat for our 2-year old son to see all the "action" right next to us. The food was actually really good, and our server was very attentive. We ordered the tater tot app and enjoyed the flavors! Our son wanted Mac and cheese. They serve a fairly large bowl of Kraft's Mac and Cheese for kids. The side of steamed broccoli he got was plentiful. I ordered the burger with sweet potato fries, and my husband ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken dish looked small in comparison to my burger, but the chicken was so tasty. Burger was good. We were satisfied with our meals. The only hiccup we experienced was resolved afterwards. Our server took down my loyalty card number but for some reason it didn't register. So I emailed them a few days later with a screenshot of my credit card transaction, asking how long it would take to show up, and the CEO emailed me back and apologized and said that he would credit me. Overall, it was a great dining experience, and we will return soon! read more

The most mediocre of mediocrities. The lukewarm temperature of the "Locally Sourced Premium Water" (guessing tap water with a Brita filter) set the stage. The diminutive size of the fish had me wondering if there was a kiddie section on the menu I missed, but nope - $17 for the chip encrusted guppy which was enough to upset my stomach. I will grant that the house fries made up for the space the fish lacked. The waiter did that waiter thing where he shows up a minute after your food arrives to see how everything is, then disappears and never asks how everything was, but is interested if you'd like dessert. I had the bang bang broccoli with the sauce on the side because I was expecting a very hot sauce. As expected the sauce was quite hot. The broccoli without the sauce was very good! Crunchy on the outside cooked properly on the inside, still a little crisp, not mushy. With a flavorful crisp Tempura coating. No sauce needed. The turkey burger was, well a turkey burger. Good, but nothing special. The chips were great! Obviously made on site, chrisp on the outside but still soft on the inside and not greasy. They have deep frying mastered! The place is large, noisy and clean with lots of TVs and a big bar. Probably crowded on game day. I was there at noon on a weekday and it was busy, but not crowded. I'm 99.9% sure my husband and I got food poisoning from dining in on Sunday night (8/16) It was the only thing we had eaten besides a bagel on Sunday morning. We both are still feeling nauseous and can't keep anything down since Sunday. The food was just okay in the moment. The nachos were so greasy because of whatever cheese they use.
