I've had a lot of cheeseburgers all around the country in my life and....Tavern on 66 ranks tight up there with the BEST I'VE EVER HAD! First of all, hand formed patty, not frozen. A bun (brioche) that is substantial, but doesn't overwhelm the burger, and does not fall apart (this is very important). Perfectly cooked, with a slight charbroiled flavor. And the fries! Hand cut, perfect size, a little crispy and nice and steaming on the inside. Right up there with the best fries I've ever had. Bonnie was behind the bar, and handled everything with ease. Gluten free fryer! That's what got us in the door! Waitress/bartender knew exactly what gluten was and pointed out the things we couldn't have (which we knew but it was nice to see that she knew too!!) I've been here twice once at night on a cold Friday in the fall and then just a couple weeks ago during the day on Saturday. Both times were just busy enough to not be slow or slammed. Drink service was fast and the food paced perfectly. It's got a bit of a towny feel, we had a few stares coming in but nothing out of the norm. If you see bikers out front, they don't bite. Just go in! Bathrooms are tiny and a bit- divey. Just wash your hands and you'll be fine. My husband and I visited here for our first time on the day of our house closing. We will be new residence of East Hampton Connecticut. We were greeted by a lovely woman named Bonnie. She was very helpful with all my questions about the area. On top of the friendliness in this establishment, the food was amazing. Being someone who loves to cook it's nice to find a place where the food feels like homemade and made with love. I had a delicious French dip and my husband had a burger. Loved the homemade buffalo sauce that I asked for with my freshly made potato chips. She also can make a mean martini. So glad we live near Such a wonderful restaurant. Every time we visit here, it's always an enjoyable experience. The food is always excellent! The staff is very friendly and attentive and always felt nice and cozy with the chill atmosphere of the Lounge. As like my previous review, it's worth the visit for good food and drinks with friends. For families with kids, I recommend visiting early before it crowds up. And I always recommend having their wings. Great stuff!! read more

We ordered some wings. They came overcooked, dry and flavorless. Because we drink water, that seems to excuse the bartender from asking if we need refills, clearing plates, or asking how our food is or if we need anything else. Food and service is horrible, other customers were more friendly than bartenders. We won't be back, ever. read more

I'm determined to try every restaurant in this little town. So next to get crossed off the list is Tavern on 66. Arrived around 9p, when they were supposed to be starting karaoke. There was a dj in the corner, but no one singing just yet. There weren't too many people dining. I took a seat at the wooden, sleek, very clean (looked pretty new) bar. I was immediately greeted & given a menu. The options were in abundance & everything was music to my eyes & ears. I went with the stuffed mushrooms with, wait for it...Lobster! I have to admit, I was nervous about those because I thought I was going to get the stuffing with specs of seafood in it that's undectable. However, when it came out on its searing hot cast iron ramekin, my senses went through the ceiling. Chunks of Lobster standing right on top at full mass. I tried to dive in, but the temp said no. So I blew & blew, & my efforts were rewarded. The flavors were so good. Mushrooms & lobster, were so tender, buttery & juicy. I almost ordered more but, my burger arrived. That too was also delicious, but a tiny bit dry. Ketchup fixed that. The fries were chunky, where you definitely taste potato, but needed some salt. I still devoured it all & would do it all over again. By the time I finished, more people were coming in & karaoke was picking up. I would have stayed, but I needed my bed after the food. This town doesn't really have a nightlife, but Tavern on 66 is the place fulfilling that role. The crowd is a nice mixture of various ages. The FULLY stocked bar has something for everyone, just like the music. The atmosphere is friendly & casual. My boyfriend and I stopped in yesterday from out of state on a whim with a craving for wings. We ordered the bone-in with the "extremely hot" sauce. (WARNING: They may make you cry!) They were absolutely delicious! The wings were meaty and packed quite the flavor- definitely satisfying our craving! One of the best restaurants in the area, if not the best! Huge selection of food despite being a smaller restaurant. The food is absolutely spectacular! I got the macaroni and added pulled pork to it- such a great decision and a choice I would easily get now every-time there! It is a very low key place, that is perfect for hanging out and having a couple drinks with friends new and old! Our first visit to the tavern and we had mixed feelings. We really had good service with lots of attention. Pleasant smiles and we never had to wait for a drink. The food choices were good for a tavern but prices were a bit steep. I had the tuna melt which was very good but I expect that it should be for $12 dollars and $1 for frenchfries (I don't get the coleslaw that comes with it if I pay more for frenchfries??) The burger was good (dry) but not worth $13 plus $1 for fries. The drinks and beer choices are good and average to above average in price. We went to Tavern 66 specifically because their menu was our favorite among all of the restaurants participating in the Taste of Middlesex County. We had never been there before, but everything on that special menu sounded good. Located right on Route 66 (obviously), we almost drove by it as I sort of expected it to be more in the center of East Hampton. It was quiet on a Monday night, but warm and cozy on the inside, with friendly service. We quickly decided that even though we had gone there for the restaurant week menu, we had to deviate from it. With almost 30 flavors of wings, we couldn't say no! They let us split an order of 12 wings into 2 different flavors. We got the teradactyle (their signature flavor) and spicy garlic. Both were good, and the wings are smoked, so they're tender and flavorful. My husband stuck with his planned order from the restaurant week menu, a cup of french onion soup and the chicken cordon bleu. The soup was really tasty, I wish that there was bread on the table for me to dip in it! You do get garlic breadsticks, but they come with the entrees. The chicken cordon bleu was so good and the gravy on top was very flavorful. I had to get shephards pie, it was pretty good, just needed a little extra salt on the meat. We left full and happy and definitely looking forward to our next visit to Tavern on 66. Whether you're looking for a place for beer, wings, and apps (can't wait to try the jumbo pretzels) or for a casual dinner/date night, you should give this place a try! read more

The drinks are very weak. They actually measure the shots for drinks unless you are a regular! We ordered rum and cokes and the bartender literally measured one even shot. When I tasted it and it tasted like Coke, I asked her if I could have a little more rum, she said I'll have to upcharge you and charged me for another drink. Then she proceeded to wait on the regulars who were at the end of the bar and no shot glass was used to measure their drinks. Very disappointing! We have been there 3 times in the last 2 weeks, and could have potentially become regulars, but honestly my drinks tasted like pure soda!! The bartender look like she was maybe 19. My husband and I come here often and we've never had a bad meal. Since the older negative reviews something must have changed because we've always had a great experience! The staff is friendly and fast, the food is AMAZING - they always have great specials. The place has a cool vibe inside (including a yummy self serve popcorn machine) it's always clean, and they have a great outdoor patio that's completely covered. I had wanted to order the pork belly platter so I asked what the vegetable was of the day and she said she had to check. After watching the bartender (because there's no wait staff) serve food and drinks for 10 mins I walked up and asked what the vegetable was and her response was oh yea I have to ask. Comes back tells me takes our order. 5 mins later comes back says so I got the wings and the dinner but what was the other thing you wanted. Tell her. We get our apps and it's ok. Then my pork belly platter comes out as an app. When I tell them I ordered the platter they bring back out the app (which the belly is covered in a sauce) and a side plate of potatoes and dried corn. We have been going here for either lunch or dinner. The last time time we decided to bring our friend, the food was not good. A bit disappointing, I ordered soup that came out room temperature, I alerted the bartender, she apologized and sent it back. It came back, the same temperature. I did not eat it, the bartender never came back to check on it, so I decided not to complain about it. We lay ordered a food special, actually the same chicken pot pie dish. As they came out and placed in front of us, the pie crust kept getting darker and when I received the last one, it was burnt. You would have thought the bartender or whoever saw this before giving it to the customer, it would have been stopped and apologized for the delay but they would bake a new one. No, unfortunately I was the one I received it (with the room temperature soup) I didn't want to kept complaining so I just moved the burnt crust and ate some of the filling. So I went there with five people tonight to "give it another chance " we waited over an 1 hour for our food the steak came out over cooked on the salad, soup was cold, mac and cheese was terrible. The list goes on. There were roughly 12 people in place. To top it all off we paid over $100 all together and not one meal got comped or anything. I don't foresee the doors being open much longer. I want to like this place as it's a small business, but I just can't. I have gotten take out a few times and am always disappointed. They smoke their wings so they gave good flavor, but obviously they can't be smoked to order. They are reheated which makes them SO dry. We ordered a dozen and actually received one piece of the tip that usually gets discarded. (I wish I had taken a picture because who would believe that?!) This is by far my favorite place to eat and hang out in East Hampton. When I moved to the area almost 4 years ago I started coming here. It was good back then but it has continually gotten even better. I can honestly say that I have never had a bad meal here. That is speaking volumes coming from me. I am probably one of the fussiest people out there when it comes to food. The owner Bonnie is very hands on working in both the front end of the bar waiting on people and making drinks, as well as cooking in the kitchen. She is always attentive and works hard to keep everyone satisfied. The Tavern also has live entertainment on most Friday nights, and trivia on Tuesday nights. My husband an I just had a surprise 24th birthday party for our son a couple weeks ago. It was great because our sons friends were able to park in the back parking lot to hide their cars, which kept him in the dark until walking in.... I brought a cake and some balloons earlier in the day, Bonnie had everything set up and ready to go when we arrived I couldn't have pulled it off without her. so I must say THANK YOU!!!!! While the food wasn't bad, the fries were soggy and our burgers didn't come out cooked correctly. (medium instead of rare). KEEP DRIVING! HORRIBLE!! Waited almost an hour for our food. The calamari was clearly frozen, you could taste it. Sauce it came with was burnt. What a nice place! My wife and I stopped by for lunch today. Since St Patrick's Day is right around the corner, we both ordered their corned beef dinner. Being a wee bit Irish, I've had more than my share of corned beef over the years and have a good idea of what is good or not. I must say their corned beef dinner is one of the best I've had! The cabbage was so flavorful (yum... even an occasional caraway seed in it!) it tasted so rich like it was cooked in butter. Real carrots cooked perfectly. And the star of the show was the corned beef. It was not just over-salted boiled beef on a plate. Much of the salt had been removed but the flavor was still there. Slightly marbled with fat but not too much. Delicious! The atmosphere was comfortable. Our waitress was very friendly to everyone in the room. I heard that the tavern used to be Smokey O'Grady's, but I think that business moved down the street and Tavern on 66 (Rt 66) took that spot over. It is right next to the huge RV center if you are traveling out of East Hampton on Rt 66. They have a wide assortment of craft beers and TV's around the bar. If the rest of their menu has as much care put into it as the corned beef, it will be well worth a road trip to check them out. read more

Went here for the first time tonight. I was surprised at how tasty the food was, and the beer selection was good! I had the Reuben with fries and it was greasy but so yummy.
