Our food was exquisite. Don't be fooled by the small-looking portions as it is all filling and with quality ingredients. Even the zeppole was, in my opinion, the best possible version of zeppole I've ever had. No fake-rating Hershey's syrup and funnel cake-ish dough here. Instead, we received light and airy lemon-infused pieces with a thick, dark chocolate dipping sauce. One star was removed due to the "pandemic surcharge" of 4% tacked onto the order. It's possible this was notated in the menu, but I don't remember seeing it until the bill came; if it's not posted beforehand, that's deceiving. Yes, times have been incredibly tough for the service industry for the past 2 years. Yes, everyone wants to make up for lost time and wages. And YES, government shut everyone down, thus contributing BIG TIME to the problem. A surcharge like this is kind of like a punishment to customers, who also have struggled for 2 years and yet are still out there spending money and supporting smaller businesses. Maybe the goal here was transparency, but personally I'd rather just see raised prices and not know about the behind-the-scenes upcharge. Surely, many other customers also feel this way. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in Seattle. I have a weakness for fresh pasta, and they never disappoint. This is the only location I'll go to. The staff is always so kind - the service is great, but their attitude is so especially positive. Cannot recommend the happy hours enough! Amazing! We did the 7-course meal for $100 as 20% of the proceeds went to seattle children's hospital to fund cancer research for kids. The food was nothing short of amazing, as expected, cause we love HTCAW and really any Ethan stowell restaurant! The only thing that I flagged was a majority of the cooking staff were not wearing masks, or they were down on their chins, I assume it's very hot in the kitchen and they would put on a mask to greet a customer but that was a little unsettling. But I'm vaccinated and was far enough away from the kitchen I wasn't too worried! read more

It may be a kitchen operations situation, but they make the table either all individually order the full restaurant week course or no body can (and they just go for the normal menu). It's still a decent deal if you wanted all of that food anyway, but we had a bit of buyers remorse after. The service was pretty good with friendly wait staff that checked up on us pretty often. There was a miscommunication from the first staff which led to an overcharge but they corrected the situation which is always great to see. The food itself was good but not great. The pastas sounded good in theory but ended up being a bit under seasoned. Outdoor heated open patio seating is great here! Service was stellar from start to finish. This is my new favorite ES restaurant in town - from the imported from Italy Barbera d'Asti bottle of wine to the gelato from Rome, everything here was on pointe! We started with the smoked salmon bruschetta - probably the best smoked salmon appetizer I've ever had. We shared the crab stuffed ravioli-esque pasta dish as an appetizer for 3 and it was divine. I loved the fried artichoke and kale? as a garnish to this pasta dish - and I love trying new shapes of pasta I've never seen or heard of before! They had me at "stuffed, ravioli-like pasta." I've never met a stuffed pasta I didn't like. For dinner my friends had the two gnocchi dishes I wanted to try so I was able to taste those - both were beautifully presented and delicious! My conchigliere al nero was my favorite version of a squid ink pasta to date. The unique uni umami just knocked this dish out of the park. I loved the crisp kale or seaweed that adorned the shells and roe atop this dish. The juxtaposition of flavors and textures was wonderful and I ate every last bite. Dessert was excellent - I love that ESR does pumpkin panna cotta at several of their restaurants for SRW - I fell in love with this dessert when I ordered takeout from Rione a few weeks ago and was thrilled to be able to have it here as well. Great ambiance and service. I ate at the bar on a late Monday night: Ceasst salad and the rigatoni. Both were excellent. The Caesar was probably one of the better over had, dressed and seasoned to perfection. I could have had the rigatoni a bit more al dente but the flavor was spot on. read more

Tavolata Stone Way has a familiar menu but in a much larger space than the Belltown sibling. Also different is a patio with outdoor seating which was nice, although traffic on Stone Way can get quite loud. The menu follows a familiar format and they also have a decent happy hour. The pasta dishes and drinks are good deal, while the happy hour salumi board was pretty skimpy. Service is hit or miss with a place this size. Overall, Tavolata may not be the best or most exciting Italian restaurant in town, but it is familiar and fairly consistent and certain items are good value. read more

I usually filter out 3 star restaurants so this wouldn't show up, but I'm glad I came here. Not sure why reviews are so low, maybe I don't understand Italian food, but the food was quite good. Came here during Seattle's restaurant week with a group of 8 for dinner. We all participated in the prix fixe menu for dinner. The drinks we ordered took a while to come out. I actually ordered mine 5 minutes later and it came before the rest of the party who orders theirs prior. I'm not sure what happened there! The appetizers were delicious! I had the roasted beet appetizer and loved it. My friend on one side had the burrata and on the other had the bruschetta. Both seemed to enjoy! For entrees, my friend had the Denver steak, I had the pappardelle, and another friend had the rigatoni. The steak was TOUGH. Very hard to chew. I would not recommend, especially for the cost. The pappardelle was delicious- great flavors. For dessert, I had the zeppole. So yummy but came with SO much! Definitely a dessert you could share with 2-3 people. All in all, can't say we were blown away by our experience. The food was pretty good but the cost was high and the service was okay. While the server was friendly, there seemed to be misses in communication and speed of service was slow. With some improvements, I think this could be a great place to eat with the open kitchen concept, unique entrees, and cute decor. read more

Finally got to try Tavolata for Seattle Restaurant Week last year. The meal was tasty and I was pleasantly surprised to see that there were several options to chose from on the SRW menu. Two at my table ordered the semolina gnocchi and it was a really good dish. It comes out in these giant gnocchi pieces (actually 6 pieces), which is not what I am used to but the taste was really complex and delicious. However, I ordered the other gnocchi dish and I was not very happy with it. It was just too dry and bland for my liking. I wish I would've ordered something different. Or if it had some type of sauce on it, it could've been much better I am sure. The burrata & pumpkin panna cotta both blew me completely away, so this why I still think Tavolata deserves 4 stars. Another reason they only get 4 stars, is because of our server. She was not gracious at all and seemed completely unenthused to serve us. Mind you it was a busy Saturday night, but still...I mean can you smile a little. Or how about recommend anything? Do you even know the menu? She sucked and got tipped minimally, but maybe she was just having a bad day. I'll def be back to try something different sometime soon and hope for a different server. LOL! Dinner at Tavolata was very good, just not quite as good as I'd hoped it would be. Went on a Thursday and it was pretty empty. That didn't translate to exceptional service, but we didn't have any big complaints either. They do have a server station in a SUPER awkward spot though, immediately behind the row of booths I sat in. Every few minutes I'd catch someone out of the corner of my eye tapping on a screen behind me. It was weird and annoying. A simple divider would solve the problem. Hint hint, Ethan. The cocktails were great, as was the Montepulciano we had with dinner. The burrata was fantastic, but could use like 2 more crostini and another serious drizzle of balsamic. I'd even settle for just the balsamic. C'mon Ethan, don't skimp on the good stuff. The rigatoni was delicious. I was pleasantly surprised by the heat. It had the right amount of cheese on top (a lot). And the sauce and sausage hit all the right notes. Mmmmm this was good. Solid work, Ethan. The potato gnocchi fell really flat. Browned butter, thyme, and Parmesan sounds like a drool-worthy combo, but it didn't come through at all. The butter and thyme were hardly there, and the parm comes in big thin strips instead of grated, so its flavor is weak too. Boring and bland, pass. Ethan, buddy...this one needs help. Pistachio gelato and a shot of espresso was a perfect way to end the meal. So maybe everything's not to die for, but if you order right Tavolata is a fine choice for dinner. read more

I'm 100% fine paying for quality food and service, but the Ceasar was way over-dressed, the Spicy Rigatoni was salty, the bruschetta (if you have to stop) was good, the Salumi platter was good, but you couldn't get a basic bread to have with it. The server was clueless. He had NO clue of what drinks they had, and when we asked for Frangelico, Bailey, or Port (feeling something sweet to close the night) he informed us they didn't carry "Dive Bar Drinks" (swear - couldn't make that up) ... all for $200. I previously posted a three-star review and my wife and I came back yesterday and had a very good experience so it's certainly worth updating to four stars. I had the Denver steak, medium rare, and it was divine. Such a delicious combination of flavors, presented beautifully, and cooked mostly medium rare with a touch of medium (it comes sliced and there were maybe two slices that were solidly medium, but not tough.) My wife has the whole trout and was very happy. The Tavolata salad was amazing and a great happy hour choice. We both had cocktails and were quite pleased. The service was good and the staff were friendly and appreciative. If I could change one thing I would have the music turned down just a touch. The music itself was great, but a little louder than it needs to be for nice ambiance. Overall: bravo to Ethan and his staff. read more

Party of 3. 1 appetizer was very good; the other 2 pretty mediocre. 1 main was very good, 1 fine, 1 forgettable. Desserts were fine. Service was very good. We went during Seattle restaurant week, and the price was ~1/3 higher than other participating restaurants. I don't mind paying premium prices if the product/service is correspondingly premium. At $90 per head (incl tip & drinks; ~$60 per head without) the food was well short of the mark. Gnocchi was unusually grainy and potentially underdone; fell apart in a mush in the mouth - zero structure. Bizarre substitution in one of the dishes; ordered radiatore, and figured out part way through the meal that the dish was one of the gnocchi dishes with radiatore instead of gnocchi. The lamb sausage coming as part of that substitution was not particularly good, either. I don't know if this is a server issue or a kitchen issue; server repeated the order back correctly, so I'm guessing kitchen confusion. I'd heard really good things about the Capitol Hill location of Tavolata, and was delighted it was replacing another Ethan Stowell restaurant - Super Bueno - where my wife and I had a comically bad meal. To be fair, though, the only good thing I'd heard about that restaurant was the quirky use of Pop Rocks. That makes the disappointing Tavolata Stone Way experience even worse. read more

First time visiting this location. The first thing I noticed is the indoor space is huge! They also have an outdoor patio area which was nice during a sunny day. I found Tavolata to be just okay. I will admit that it is quite difficult to impress me when it comes to Italian food, especially pasta since I'm really only impressed if the restaurant makes their own pasta. It doesn't seem like Tavolata makes their own pasta, or at least not the one that I ordered. I got the pappardelle since the flavors sounded interesting with the mint and orange. I do have to commend the kitchen that you could actually taste the citrus notes of the orange, but I can't say I tasted the mint. However, after a few bites, the unique notes fell away. And even when I did notice those citrus notes, I can't say that it really added anything to the dish. Overall, it was a very solid and well executed pasta dish, but it didn't blow me away. As for the rest of the experience, the service was excellent and the ambiance was adorable. This Tavolata has extensive inside and outdoor seating. It's generally easy to make a reservation, but it also seems not to bad if you want to try walking in (except on a weekend night). Maybe I need to come back for more menu options other than the pasta or try another pasta, but I feel no rush to come back soon. I would, however, definitely come back soon to enjoy the environment and ambiance if I'm not necessarily looking to eat something interesting. read more

Yum! We tried out this location Friday night and it was delightful! As always, the happy hour deal here is just fantastic. We ordered the roasted beets (which were my favorite- it came with whipped feta or ricotta that I could eat with a spoon), smoked fish bruschetta and the green beans. The beets were certainly the standout, but everything was pretty good. For dinner I had the spaghetti with anchovies and my partner got the papardelle. My spaghetti was amazing! I got a little worried at the strong anchovy smell, but the taste wasn't as strong, just salty and rich. The serving was huge, too- so we took some home. The papardelle was fine but we weren't blown away; it didn't seem like the tomato sauce sat with the meat much because it didn't have a good depth of flavor. Very tomato-y. The papardelle noodles weren't as soft and buttery as the spaghetti either. Either way, we will definitely be back. I think we'll try the rigatoni next time! read more

I had high expectations for this place because I've received glowing recommendations from friends. Sadly, I was pretty underwhelmed and left still hungry despite getting an appetizer (albeit just a salumi board, I was still expecting to be full from my pasta dish). Only plus was the server was pretty attentive to us. She checked on us every so often to refill our still/sparking water combinations but goofed on splitting the check towards the end, though I don't fault her for that since we were a party of 9. After much deliberation on choosing between the pappardelle or the campanelle, we decided on the pappardelle and the risotto. Sad to say, but the pappardelle didn't taste any better than canned Chef Boyardee? The risotto was....alright at best. I've definitely made a better risotto before by just following a recipe. Portioning was also a bit skimpy. My partner and I both left pretty hungry and contemplated going down the street to Dick's for burgers. Also, both dishes and the salumi board came to almost ~$70. We had not heard positive things about restaurants in the ESR group but we wanted to check out Tavolàta for happy hour as they have outdoor seating for a beautiful day. However, the happy hour isn't worth the price. The meatballs are chicken & pork, not beef, which is not mentioned on the happy hour menu. So the meatball is incredibly dense, dry, and salty and no amount of red sauce can save it. The rest of the food was okay, just inconsistently salty. You can definitely find better focaccia elsewhere in Fremont. The cocktails were excellent though. All in all, it ended up being exactly what everyone said it was so we probably won't be back. read more

Lovely place that previously used to be Super Bueno. The pasta was solid, perfectly al dente. Grilled octopus appetizer was amazing! The only thing I'd call out is that Tavolata (from the other branches in cap hill and belltown as well) has experimented with multiple variations of the Nero (they used to have a form of linguini Nero with squid/shrimp too), and I believe their conchiglie nero pales just every so slightly in comparison. The other variations of the nero ive tried usually packs a punch and this one is more subtle, with a slightly sweeter tinge. Still really good, but the others were much more memorable! Also had out door dining and unfortunately it was still a little cold that we could remove our coats either. Perhaps moving the heater closer / adding more might help! read more

I came here on a cold-ish Monday night so it was pretty quiet but the space is lovely. Service was very good and they made a few recommendations. By far my favorite of the night was the smoked fish bruschetta. It was half salmon and half halibut, both of which were phenomenal. I would come back here just for this and ignore the rest of the menu (mainly because everything else was either not good or just so-so). The asparagus app was okay and my entree of the halibut was awful. It was bland beyond belief and was also served not particularly warm. I also did not get hints of any of the accompanying flavors. The conchigeli nero was okay. The sauce was nice but the pasta was a bit underdone for my liking. For dessert I had the pistachio gelato. It had chunks of pistachio in it which was nice but the actual gelato itself didn't taste much of the nut. read more

Overall, the dishes were okay. Not sure if I will come back again as none of the dishes really stand out. I thought most Italian restaurants provide free bread. We had to order them on the side at Tavolata. I like the aged balsamic that came with the bread. Salumi Board was literally all meat with a few slices of parmesan cheese; wishes there were some pickled vegetables or bread to go along with it. The tavolata salad was good but wish the vegetables were served in smaller pieces. I got the spaghetti with anchovy, thought it was an interesting combination to try. I'm aware that it would be salty so I got the meatballs with tomato sauce on the side; assuming the sweetness will tone it down a bit. The tomato sauce was super salty and the meat does not have much flavor to it. The noodles were cooked to al dente but the dish was too salty that I can't finish it at all (which as a carb lover, I never had an issue to finish pasta). I can't even express how impressed we were with Tavolata. We were celebrating two birthdays and they put our names at the top of the menu and left us a card signed by the staff. On top of that, the food is *CHEFS KISS*. We were so full we had to be rolled out of there. Love their restaurant atmosphere and their staff is extremely lovely - our server Justin was awesome!We started off with the baguette, olives, and burrata, all delish although maybe a tad over priced. Their cocktails are delicious, you can't go wrong. The spaghetti and meatballs comes with a healthy serving and super delicious, although my friend found the meatballs a little over salted. The tonarelli was a little too basic with not a ton of flavor, so I wouldn't recommend it. The tiramisu was delicious and came in a cute cup. Other reviews from my table mates were that the paparadelle was out of the world although the portion size is smaller, and both gnocchi dishes were "alright". Along with outstanding customer service the food is quick and delicious! They have a great deal for a bottle of wine and two pasta dishes for $45. It's a cute and clean setting! My friend ordered gluten free and when the dish that came was not gluten free, they remade her dish and also offered to remake my dish so it would come out hot with hers. Campanelle and cauliflower highly underseasoned. The other elements go nicely together into what could have been a great dish, but it's difficult to look past the incredibly bland base ingredients. Gnocchi morbidly overcooked, "Wild Boar" was stringy and mushy. The only thing with flavor or substance on the plate was the parmesan. In general, grossly overpriced food for the lack of quality control taken to ensure proper cook and seasoning. Absolutely not worth $23 each. read more

This review is not about the food which was pretty good, or even our server who got two of our four orders incorrect. It's the fine print at the bottom of the check that says they are tacking four percent onto the check due, essentially, to inflation. We didn't notice it until the check came but, sure enough, at the bottom of the menu in the agate type reserved for the undercooked food warnings and the like was the declaration that they would add it to the bill and that it would all go to the establishment. Travolata is entitled to charge whatever they like for their fare but this seems like an underhanded and borderline deceptive way to do so. Why not just raise prices? Please don't say that it's too expensive to reprint menus on copy paper. The addition to our bill came to a bit less than ten dollars. I hope the Stowell restaurants enjoy it because it will be the last such money they will ever see from anyone in our party. read more

I've learned that my east coast, first gen American food exposure has made me more discerning than many I meet out here(?). Been to this spot twice since I live nearby, and of course the prices are ridiculous like everything else, but even more offensive is the pretty terrible food.., uggh. It's shocking to me that anyone who has ever tasted authentic, or high-quality food, would think this is palatable fare. How he got his name, I don't know..,, sorry to be honest, but I must.
