We actually have been up to the Taylor Shelllfish Farm on Chuckanut Drive a few times, so we were excited when we discovered they have restaurants. We started off with drinks and then just went crazy with the menu. The fresh, raw oysters are must - a very impressive selection indeed. The Shiso Geoduck had a texture similar to octopus. The sesame, shiso oil and lemon zest topping complimented it nicely. The Oysters Marco had a nice blend of kale and bacon (who knew?). The Oyster Stew had very small oyster, but the broth was rich..unforturnately it was on the cool side. Would have been nice to be able to warm up on the cold, rainy Seattle night. We finished off with the Steamer Mussels. This was the only dish that we didn't care for. Having Sugar Peas in the broth just didn't work. A few reason the rating wasn't 5 star: 1. It's sooo bright inside. it would be nice if the lights were a little dimmer for a bar and small plate setting. 2. My best friend and I were visiting Seattle for the first time last month. We were looking through our list of places to check out recommended by our friends and this place was one of them. We came from the space needle to check it out at night and we were looking for a place to eat on yelp that was opened late that was walking distance from us! Luckily this location wasn't too far from the space needle. We booked it from the space needle so that we can make it with enough time before they close. Their hours don't match what yelp says. We made it with 15-20 minutes till closing (according to what yelp said), it was packed and they seated us. We were both surprised that they even seated us since they were supposably closing in 15-20 minutes, we even had to wait about 5-10 minutes for them to wait for one of the customers to leave. However, we found out depending on the season they have different hours and stay opened till there's no customers. On the door it says the hours are 11:30am-closed. That's totally different from other restaurant especially coming from LA. We are use to them rushing us or subtly trying to kick us out when it's closing or if we come 15-20 minutes till closing sometimes they say they aren't seating anymore so this was different experience for us. But when it's getting close to closing they will only serve fresh oysters and drinks. I would call before going to check if they are getting close to closing because they could close earlier or later than what yelp says. Our waitress Sara and the whole staff was awesome! They were just very nice, welcoming us when we walked in, checking up on us the whole time and not rushing us letting us take our time. Sara gave us recommendations for drinks which were super tasty. I'm not the biggest fan of raw food so she gave us great baked and cooked options! They were super busy from an event at the park they ran out of one of the items I wanted to try but everything we got was all delicious! Not only did she recommend drinks and food but she even took the time to talk to us about how our trip was going and told us about her first experience in Seattle. It was our last night in Seattle so we wanted to go out and check out the night life. She recommended some awesome bars on Capitol Hill for the real Seattle experience lol! We stopped by Taylor Shellfish after catching a 2pm show at the Seattle Repertory Theatre and just made the tail end of happy hour. The space is on the smaller size but there's a good amount of seating so there was no wait. As we stayed, I noticed a steady stream of parties coming and going. We split a bottle of Cava Brut, dozen oysters, Bloody Mary, and Macrina bread to tide us over until dinner. The oysters were fairly large but still had incredible flavor and freshness. The Blood Mary is delicious if you enjoy it on the spicy side and I loved all the pickled accouterments it came with. Service was just okay, our waitress wasn't the most attentive but didn't completely ignore us. The worst service ever. Our waitress must have woke up on the wrong side of the bed. She had zero intentions of helping us. She was Non-existent. I was even more surprised when there was a automatic 18% service charge and we sat at the bar. Total BS if you ask me. That should be stated before you even sit down. I strongly dislike Seattle weather but this place made the walk over from Space Needle SO worth it. Gal pal and I sat at the bar and watched the dude shuck our oysters (there's a joke in there somewhere). She's not much of an oyster fan but tried two while I gobbled down 6 others. We tried the Kumamoto, Sumo Kumo (mature Kumamoto), Virginica, and Totten Inlet Pacific. They were all amazing with the vinaigrette, lemon, and minimal cocktail sauce. I try to never slurp my food but I proudly did it with these oysters. SO YUM. The spicy cucumber salad was a bit salty but went so well with the oysters. Staff were all super friendly and took the time to check-in and explain the flavor profiles. I love Taylor Shellfish so much! Their happy hour deals are the best. A dozen oysters for $20 I believe... and super fresh and tasty. They have a few outdoor seats which are perfect for sunny days, and the service is just so accommodating and great. I also like their manila clams and the shrimp po boy! They have a pretty good oyster happy hour. I like the guy that works here... he was super knowledgeable and was on point with his descriptions. The happy hour oysters were the shigokus and I asked what the flavor was. I told him kumamotos are my fave and how it compares. He said it wouldn't be as sweet and smooth as those. It's very briney and has a good [makes facial expression] and that was it. His facial expression said it all. It was briney and that face was on point. We ordered the Shuckers dozen, geoduck clam, dungeness crab, and the day special of baked oysters. I'm just realizing now, that was a lot of food. Oysters were amazing. Each couple of oysters had different tastes from sweet to salty. They were super fresh. Absolutely did not need any squeeze of lemon or sauce, even though it was provided. Geoduck Clam was so good. I've never had it raw but this first experience makes realize how exquisite this clam is. Soft and chewy, dab some wasabi and soy = epic EXPLOSION in my mouth. The dungeness crab was easy to eat. Sweet succulent pieces of meat as we peel it out. The dish came with Taylor Shellfish crab butter, which was fantastic with the meat. Seriously, accented the meat to another world. Our waiter recommended some bread with the crab butter....um I went to heaven that day. Super rich and creamy, as they used the inner juices of the crab. My mouth is salivating right now as I write this. Also, the slaw that comes with the dish is super refreshing. Works well with the heavy crab butter. The baked oysters were extremely filling. Large chunks of oysters because they expand once you "cook" them, add some cheese and spaghetti squash. Wow. It was so delicious. This is on the pricey side but almost all seafood restaurants are expensive. Excellent choice of oysters; I believe they developed Shigoku - make sure you don't miss it! I had half dozen of oysters(Kumamoto and Shigoku, both are 'sweet' varieties of oysters), ginger slaw (okay but tiny portion) and geoduck sashimi. With tax and gratuity the bill came about $55, quite expensive for a lunch that is actually not filling. Prior to this, I thought Hog Island in SF was the place to be for oysters, but this proved me wrong. I'm not surprised, however, cuz we're in WA and these were fresssshhhh. Came here with a group of 4 for dinner at 6pm on a Monday night, and while the place was almost full, we only had to wait a mere 5 minutes or so for a table. Service was hilarious and awesome that night. Our table ordered some drinks which came out deliciously strong and spirit-forward, and followed with 4 shucker's dozen. Our favorites: kumamoto, virginica, sumo kumo Other selections we had: totten inlet pacific, grand cru, olympia They ran out of the shigoku variety, which is why they subbed us the sumo kumo's at no additional charge. Score. The oysters were seriously fresh off the boat, all cleanly shucked, not briny whatsoever, and most definitely did not contain any grit. Clean clean clean. They also gave us sides of cocktail sauce, vinegar, fresh horseradish, and some habanero and another kind of hot sauce to go with our order. Who the hell left all the 4 and 5 star ratings on this place!? You a$$holes!!! I was conned into going here instead of places like Chinook's, Anthony's, Iver's, and 10 Mercer by the good ratings. Let me set you straight. I walked in the door, I saw two open places at the bar (see picture), Waitress tells me there's no seating at the bar, and leads us to a table. Not to complain, or be a wanker, I go with it, thinking the other patrons must be in the bathroom. We ordered three things: Oysters Marco ($14) and the Classic Steamed Mussels ($14), and something else they were out of, I forget what-and that's okay, it happens, and I understand that. These dishes really should have been listed as appetizers, please be aware (as it wasn't clear on the menu) that they are not entrees. Even on the menu it noted our dish as containing "four hearty" oysters, leading you to believe they might be bigger than regular. Nah, they're regular. I didn't find anything on the menu that was an entire entree, which could have easily been made possible by adding a simple side, such as mixed vegetables, pasta, or mashed potatoes. Charge me a few extra bucks and make it a full dish. Your whole menu is appetizers. Do not ask for a variation on any of the dishes, or to change them. When our virtually non-existent waitress did come back to our table I did ask, and was bluntly told, "No. We don't do that." My suggestion wasn't something elaborate, like "can I have creamed cantaloupe with a side of monkey brains?" It was very simple, something they already did to another dish on the menu, that I wanted on a dish I was ordering. Can you do that? YES, you can! I've had dishes rendered in hundreds of other restaurants with a "no problem!" from the waitstaff, and having worked restaurants myself, have done it for countless others. It isn't hard to do something small to please a guest. And if you want my 35%+ tip, the simple things go a long way with me. The food runners and back of house staff were very polite and friendly. Making our "no-fun-I'm-a-bitch" waitress stand out even more. I tipped high anyway, in the hopes that she'd share it with the rest of the staff, but she probably didn't because "No. She don't do that." For ambience and interior, architecture is convenience store meets Frank Lloyd Wright that had a love baby of stainless steel and glass. If you're seeking warmth and cozy, this is not it. Overall dining experience would have been 3 stars, 'maybe,' if the food would've been exceptional, but there are a lot of restaurants in Seattle who have decent or above-par seafood, so I'm going to give 2 stars because a meal should either excite me, please me, or make me full. My friend had emphasized several times that she only wanted 5. When her oysters came out, they gave her 6. My friend ended up accepting and not arguing with her but it would have been nice if she had done the courtesy of taking that extra one off the bill. We had ordered steamed clams with our oysters. When all our oysters came out and were eaten, we waited and waited for the clams to show up. It never did. So we asked the waitress where our order was, and the waitress straight up LIED and said "oh, we give guests time to enjoy oysters and then the other dishes come out." And then the waitress who took our order came back 30 sec later and was like "oh oops sorry, I guess I didn't take down that order." My bf and I decided to check out the new seafood spot in the neighborhood last night. Such delicious! So wow! Best seafood I've had in Seattle (and I moved here 4 years ago)! Amazing service, as well - everyone was all smiles the second we walked in, and not in that super-fake way. We split a caesar salad and cup of chunky vegetable soup to start. Really enjoyed both. The caesar salad was topped with one anchovy for each of us, and they were delicious. For the main course we split a full dungeness crab. I grew up on the Chesapeake Bay and generally tend to avoid ordering crab on the west coast (much the same way I avoid ordering salmon on the east coast). And don't get me wrong - I will always prefer the blue crabs from the creek like a mile from my parents' house - but I was very impressed with the dungeness crab we got here. It was excellent, and the sauce they give you with it is amaze-balls. To drink we split a glass of the Ana Sauv Blanc, and it was the perfect compliment to the crab. I'm normally not much of a white wine drinker, but the Ana was smooth and buttery. I'd definitely get it again. We also split a pint of the Oyster Stout and a bottle of the Pike Place Blonde Ale, and really liked both. I think we both preferred the Oyster Stout and would for sure get that again. I walk by this place to and from work every day, so I'm definitely looking forward to stopping in for happy hour on my way home! Next level WOW'd! Being in Seattle for a few days without trying oysters, I woke up on Saturday morning on a mission to get some. Looked up oyster bars nearby our hotel on yelp to discover this location was only two blocks away. When we arrived at 12pm it wasn't too crowed and the bar was completely open so we took a seat, then people started pouring in. Service was awesome, they were all friendly, helpful and seemed to be enjoying themselves while making delicious food ... bopping to the 80's playing in the background. Love me some 80's jams. Now to the FOOD! Before we ordered we saw a fisherman drop off a fresh batch of seafood... probably the best part of the experience! We ordered the Shucker's Dozen, bread w/ butter and Caesar salad. The selection of oysters were the freshest... just amazing. We especially enjoyed the Shigoku and ended up ordering another round of these. The Caesar salad is so flavorful and perfect, I'm not even a salad lover and I was thoroughly enjoying this (fresh anchovies on top). The woman who made it realized how much I was enjoying it while we both agreed it was the best Caesar we ever had. The best places have staff who love the food they are serving, hearing them say they want that for lunch before they are running food just makes you enjoy it that much more. The bread and butter was basic but complimented everything well, soaking up the last bits of that Caesar salad. I do wish the bread was warm/softer. I solely came in here for their oysters after spending a few hours at the Space Needle and Chihuly Glass Museum...and this was probably our best idea all day! The place was close to empty, so we decided to take our seats at the bar and went with the Shucker's Dozen ($30) which came with 3 of the Virginica, 3 Shigoku, 2 Kumamoto, 2 Olympia and 2 Pacific (I think...if I remember correctly). They were all sooo fresh and tasty! I was sad to see them go away as my bf and I devoured them. Great service, location, and food! Well lit with lots of windows and you can watch the shockers up close. We sat outside since it was a gorgeous night. The service was amazing and the food was even better! We split the scallop ceviche and the Dungeness crab dinner (the large size, because treat yo self!). The ceviche was a smaller portion but it was delicious. It came with chips which were good too but gave it a more casual presentation compared to the rest of the meal. The Dungeness crab dinner comes with a whole baguette, a Schucker's dozen, a house salad, and a whole Dungeness crab. Plenty for us to split! Everything was wonderful (down to the baguette) but the star was the Dungeness crab. It's caught that day, then they poach it in house, and use the extra fat to make this amazing cream sauce for dipping. I've been eyeing this place for a while. I loooove oysters! I'm no connoisseur, but I'll try my best. This is a true oyster bar -- the oysters are their main specialty and they have a small amount of other seafood to choose from like prawns, crabs, and fish. The oysters available on the day we went is fat bastard, Kumamoto, virginicia, Shigoku, Kusshi, and Rocky Bay Pacific. They were out of Fanny Bay. The dozen had two of each of those. The fat bastard was huge! It was a bit salty, but was definitely a mouthful. The Virginica was meaty and had a very nice soft texture. The rocky bay pacific melted in your mouth. The Shigoku, kusshi, and kumamoto were smaller shells, and more on the sweeter side. They were all good and delicious. A nice light snack for the day. I kind of wish they gave you more lemons and the cocktail sauce for free. The oysters were great raw, but one lemon isn't enough for a dozen oysters and I like to have some flavor with the cocktail sauce. I don't like how they give you such a small portion of the sauces. The horseradish sauce was fine, but still in a small portion. We got the oyster stew as well which was okay. The service was a bit slow, but they checked up on us from time to time. They charge a 18% shucking fee on you bill. The oysters are delicious and fresh here and a bit on the pricey side. Each oyster has it's own unique taste and if you like oysters I'd recommend this place! I got the chowder, a shooter and a Caesar salad. My dude had the salmon gravalx and pickled vegetables. I LOVED my chowder. Best chowder I have in a while. The shooter (horseradish and sold vodka) was thheeeeeee best shooter we ever had. How they made a Caesar salad land? I will never know. It tasted like what Romaine. Beautiful place with a lovely variety of shellfish. We got the shucker's dozen which included all but 2 varieties that they had on hand. We did not care for the vinagerette that came with the oysters and found the cocktail sauce to be OK. Honestly, the oysters don't need much more than a squirt of lemon. $32 dollars for the dozen. I highly recommend that experience (especially shared) as each oyster truly was different than the other. Why not 5 stars? Service was fast but seemed a little unsure about what oyster was what. Additionally, the water cups only hold about 2-3 drinks of water so after we would take a sip the waiter would rush over, reach over us and fill our water. Additionally, the smoked oyster dip was so-so. Heavy-handed on the sauce with chunks of smoked oyster, would pass next time. read more

The oysters had a wonderfully briney taste to them, even the kumamoto's, which I associate with a sweet creaminess. Is this because I'm having them so much closer to the source?! It's hard to say. I also ordered the mussels in white wine sauce, the geoduck sashimi with lime juice and the dungeness crab. The mussels and geoduck were standouts for me. Very plump mussels, and the geoduck was sliced just thinly enough with a light dressing of lime juice and sesame oil with a bit of tobiko and some crunchy seaweed crackers that worked very well. The famous dungeness crab? I honestly could have passed on that. I really don't have an affinity for chilled seafood, and much prefer my food warm - like a Cajun crab boil. read more

Truly the best oysters that I have ever had. It was the most glorious lunch of my life, munching on those slimy, delicately salty, exquisite oysters. I ordered an assorted dozen, shared a few, and hoarded the rest. It wasn't cheap, but it was worth every penny... I would do it again in a heartbeat! I also tried the oyster stew. It was creamy without being thick, just the way I like it. Flavors were perfect. I tasted my friend's baked oysters "marco," which were covered in bacon, kale, shallot, cranberry and parmesan. It was fabulous, although I really just prefer my oysters raw and unadulterated. Some of my favorite music was playing in the background, so that was a plus. If you're looking for a quality oyster bar in Queen Anne, this is the place to be. It's shiny, has good service, and all the Taylor Shellfish oysters you know and love. The menu is no-nonsense, the kitchen is open, and they have a full bar to meet all your party's needs. It's even a quick skip over to all the attractions in Seattle Center, so you can easily make it the dinner portion of dinner and a show. The downside is it's missing all the no-frills charm of their Melrose retail location. I know there's a big difference between retail and restaurant, but the beauty of the retail shop is it's quality oysters, in an unassuming joint, at a fantastic price. There's just something about that the-guy-shucking-your-oysters-may-have-been-on-the-farm-yesterday-harvesting-what-he's-shucking-for-you-today feel the Melrose place offers that the wife and I love. I'm not gonna lie, we also prefer to pay the wee bit less than $2.50-$3.00 per you'll pay at the Oyster Bar location. Seattle is home to quite a few oysters spots; many peddle Taylor's wares. For my money, I'm hitting up the retail location for a good deal or sitting down at a spot like Walrus & Carpenter for a quality meal. Respect to Taylor for their expansion, I just don't think it's in our wheelhouse. read more
