this was one of two cafes my boyfriend and i went to while visiting seattle and it did not disappoint!! we ended up going twice in the three days we stayed because it was that good inside is quite small but very cute. they have two tables and then seating at the bar where you can watch the drinks being whisked! they also have two ordering kiosks inside which i liked! staff was also always super kind. we got the hojicha with added cream top and the earl grey matcha and both were so yummy. i would definitely recommend if you're looking for a good cafe!
A very solid cafe with a gorgeous interior in service of an authentic Japanese experience. You can tell that they pride themselves on quality drinks as the baristas really took care in making each drink. The taste was amazing. The matcha tasted fresh and earthy which is unlike a lot of other spots that just use the cheap manufactured powder. I will be back to try the other drinks definitely.
I enjoyed my recent trip to Taz Matcha. I tried their Earl Gray Matcha Latte with oat milk. I chose the Chiran Harvest matcha, which had a more earthy and robust flavor that stood out in a good way, and it paired well with the early grey. This was a unique and well-balanced latte, and my friends enjoyed it in their seating area where you take off your shoes and kneel and/or sit down, more similar to some restaurants and cafes in Japan. This is a spot I would love to come back to for high-quality matcha!
Amazing. I was extremely impressed with the high quality matcha. The interior is inviting, cozy, serene, and simply beautiful. Loved the modern Tatami seating. I stopped around 11am on a weekday and I was the only one in there. Once I left more people started stopping by. Tablet ordering style but staff immediately welcomed me in and approached me asked if I needed help or had any questions which was nice. I ordered an iced Strawberry Matcha with no added sweetness for my man and I chose the iced Earl Grey Matcha for myself. The matcha was high quality and soooo delicious! I tried the Strawberry Matcha and stirred it a bit more thoroughly for my boyfriend and it was super yummy! He was very pleased and agreed it was probably the best Strawberry Matcha he has had. My Earl Grey Matcha was definitely the best Earl grey Matcha I've tried compared to other cafes. The Earl Grey flavor was sweet but not too sweet and amazing flavor that paired perfectly with the smooth high quality matcha. I drank my beverage fast because it was so good but tried to be slow so I could really savor the flavor it was so dang delicious!!! The interior had dim, romantic, and calming lighting. Beautiful bar seating and modern Tatami seating. The painting on the wall was beautiful and my favorite part of the interior. The drinks are on the pricier side but definitely high quality as mentioned many times and very very yummy. I would definitely return and recommend!! Super impressed with the Earl Grey Matcha :)
TAZ is hands down one of my favorite matcha spots in Seattle. As someone coming from the bay/tried uji matcha in japan , TAZ offers some solid ceremonial grade matcha. Both the strawberry and earl grey matcha with oat milk we ordered were perfectly creamy and rich in matcha flavor. You can tell they use high quality matcha since they hand whisk each drink and there are many flavor options you can customize for your drink. Very traditional Japanese ambiance but seating and parking is limited as it is in downtown Seattle. I do have to say price is a bit expensive at around $9-10/cup but very well worth it given rising costs+ comparable to other cafe drinks in the area. I get this as a treat every so often. Servers are very friendly and great at explaining menu items and you can purchase matcha bowls, whisks and matcha powders in store as well. Must visit if you are a matcha connoisseur like me
I believe the interior is japandi style, creating a minimalist and warm environment. Given that we went on a weekend, it was a bit overwhelming inside since it was crowded and small. Despite that, service was relatively quick. There are also two bathrooms, no code or key needed. Strawberry Matcha w/extra matcha and less sweet (~$10) - 4/5 I got the Chiran matcha which was earthy and creamy. The strawberry puree was slightly sweet and could have been tarter. I wish I got extra strawberry puree because before I knew it, only the matcha was left. Earl Grey Matcha - 5/5 Great balance and ratio of earl grey-matcha-and milk! The earl grey was subtle, not overpowering the matcha. If I had to choose between the earl grey and strawberry I would get the earl grey! Quality matcha, but would only come here if I was in the area. Great drinks, but not AMAZING!
To know me is to know I love matcha, so I always make it a point to make a matcha stop when visiting a new city. This cafe specializes in ceremonial-grade matcha & kept popping up when I searched for the best matcha in Seattle, so naturally I had to find out why. I visited on a Sunday morning. They open at 10 a.m. on Sundays & by the time I arrived around 10:40 a.m. there was already a short line out the door. Thankfully, it moved pretty quickly. I'm truly not used to chilly weather anymore (desert-living), so I was grateful not to have to wait out in the cold for too long. Ordering is done through 2 tablets, and the staff were clearly busy, so I didn't get to ask any questions. I had my heart set on the banana oat matcha, but it was sold out. A tragedy. So I opted for the earl grey matcha with almond milk instead. I like that the drinks are so customizable. You can choose your matcha profile (such as earthy or floral), adjust the sweetness level & caffeine strength, swap out flavors, etc. I kept mine mostly as-is, just subbed almond milk. The drink was SO good. I love earl grey tea, but never had it in a matcha latte before. My first sip caught off guard because it was bitter, but it was delicious once I mixed it a bit. The cloud top added creaminess & overall, the matcha was a balanced blend of the 2 teas. The place is very quaint & since it was so busy, it felt crowded. Most people seem to get their drinks to go, and I just felt bunched up as I waited for the drink. There wasn't much room to stand & everyone was getting in each other's way, lol. There's seating at the bar, where you can watch the baristas prepare the matcha, and a couple tables with traditional Japanese-style seating. There are also a few cute trinkets on sale, and I imagine it can be a very calming environment when it's less crowded. WiFi is available, but I wouldn't consider this a place to hangout or work for a while. However, this is definitely a great place to grab a matcha and GO.
This might be my favorite matcha cafe in Seattle. I got the hojicha latte with a matcha cream top and the matcha strawberry latte. Both were incredible but the hojicha was my favorite by far. I will definitely be getting that one again. We also got super lucky because Kinokos House was doing a pop up there that day. I really love that this cafe supports local bakers by hosting events like this. We grabbed a slice of the black sesame basque cheesecake and I am not exaggerating when I say it was the best cheesecake I have ever had. The crust was perfect and the inside was so creamy and soft. Cannot recommend this place enough for both the drinks and the community vibe.
Been hearing that Taz has the best matcha in Seattle, and although I'm not sure I agree just yet, I can confidently say that it's definitely a strong contender. I am SO glad to have finally tried it. Drinks: (5/5) They had a special blueberry foam/cream so I got that on top of a regular matcha latte with oat milk. To be honest, I was really nervous about this drink because blueberry flavors don't usually translate well outside of baked goods in my opinion. I was proven COMPLETELY wrong. My matcha had an extremely accurate blueberry flavor that paired perfectly with the earthiness of the latte itself. I assume the flavor comes from dried and processed blueberries because it looked like powder that was dusted on top of my drink. 100% recommend. My partner got the earl grey matcha, which was also good but just ok when put side-by-side to the blueberry one. We honestly wished the earl grey came through a little stronger. Service: (5/5) There were a lot of people working behind the counter when we went and they were really churning drinks out! I can't imagine how busy this place can get. They were very sweet and our drinks came out super fast.

small MUST VISIT in downtown! the matcha red bean was good, exactly what you'd expect if u ate red beans and drank matcha. the STRAWBERRY LATTE OH MY GOSH. they add jasmine sweetener shots which make all the difference. u gotta mix the drink bc the first sips r straight up puree but its natural, perfectly sweetened. it's j so perfectly executed. they make drinks right in front u, carefully measuring. oat milk isn't extra and does not water down drink. offer extra shots and adjustments if ur not satisfied. minimal indoor seating, mini japanese style seating and a counter top. came 30min before closing on sunday, 10ish min wait in line BEST THAT WASHINGTON HAS TO OFFER read more
i came here on thursday morning around 8:30a and waited in line for about 30 minutes. there is someone that will let you into the store to help manage the line and so that it's not too crowded! the baristas are super kind and took the time to explain everything on the menu. i got the strawberry matcha with the chiran blend. i opted for 50% sweetness per their suggestion but honestly i could've done 0%. overall i enjoyed the drink but the strawberry flavor was pretty overpowering and i couldn't really taste any matcha flavor. i would love to come back to try the other drinks and matcha blend as well as the cold foams. read more

I am really happy there's a matcha place so close by! There is usually a wait, especially on the weekends, so be prepared to stand in line for a bit. I will admit that Taz is a bit expensive, but this is the best place to get a hojicha around. I don't have a strong opinion on their matcha but the hojicha latte w/ the jasmine syrup is one of my absolute favorites and I recommend that to all my friends. I like their interior as well :) read more

oh my gosh this matcha place is sooo unique! I was in town for a couple of days and my friend introduced me to this place and I am hooked! they have such unique flavors and I understand why the line is out the door. they only serve matcha and hojicha but I love that you can customize each drink to your liking. I got the drink with 75% sweetness and it was almost too sweet for me so I would recommend 50% sweet. they have such a variety for cream tops and they even have a seasonal cream top (mango at the time). the owner was there while we were in line and he was so nice and friendly. there's limited seating inside so it's more of a grab and go place unless you're lucky enough to find a chair. read more

First off, the employees are super friendly and welcoming!!! The inside of this cafe is decorated beautifully. They had a small menu highlighting their specialties which I thought was really cool and thoughtful. The matcha itself is very customizable to your liking (sweetness & milk you want). The quality of the drinks are amazing! The matcha flavor is very pleasant and smooth. They are very precise with their measurements so everything is super consistent! Will return! :) read more
I wanted to love this place but after an hour in line and a single $10 drink, I was not impressed. I ended up getting the strawberry matcha with the chashi blend. The drink itself had way too much strawberry for my liking, it took up a whole third of the cup and it overpowered the drink where I wasn't able to get as much matcha flavor, it mostly tasted like strawberry jam. The matcha itself was decent but not as floral and fragrant as I had hoped especially at that price point. Also the service was pretty inconsistent. For all other customers they sat them down and made the drinks in front of them, explained the process and matcha, and gave them waters. As I watched from afar, I was waiting for my turn but then they proceeded to just dump the excess matcha they had from another customer into another cup. That one ended up being mine, no water, no detailed explanation, I wasn't even asked if I wanted to sit. read more
Had to drop by this place after seeing all the hype about it, and I'm glad I did! I got the strawberry matcha with the matcha cream top and it was delicious, with a perfectly subtle sweetness and well-balanced flavors overall. The service is also phenomenal! The baristas were very friendly and personable and created a welcoming atmosphere. The only downside is the line (we waited maybe 20 minutes), but it's worth it! read more
Such delicious and beautiful matcha. We got the strawberry matcha and red bean matcha, both with jasmine syrup and 50% sweetness. We also got matcha foam on the strawberry matcha and sesame foam on the red bean matcha. They were both delicious, and I loved the sesame foam. The quality of the matcha powder itself is great -- concentrated and earthy. The atmosphere is also cozy and calm. Would love to come again! read more

The BEST matcha in Seattle hands down. The matcha is strong, vibrant, and reasonably priced. Love the interior with the sit down tables and the bar. The baristas are the absolute sweetest! Shoutout to Vivian!! I highly recommend this place for a GOOD matcha (and their hojicha is DELICIOUS too - nutty and strong. Just as good as the matcha)! read more
ok YUMMMMM!! this place gets so much hype and tbh i think it's well deserved! this was my first time at taz and i got the red bean matcha with medium sweetness. the matcha was very creamy and the red bean was such a yummy addition and my first time trying it. the red bean topping was pretty sweet and almost brown sugar-esque! my friend said she liked this one more than the famous strawberry matcha. as for the ambiance, it was so busy so we couldn't find anywhere to sit #bookedandbusyyy but the seating was japan inspired. there were floor cushions and slightly elevated tables. i love this arrangement (especially because it fits the young audience) but i think it would be nice to add more tall tables and normal seating for people who can't easily sit on the floor. The ordering was through an i pad and super easy!! all in all, i enjoyed and I WILL BE BACK HEHEH !!! read more
Yummy matcha in the SLU area! When you get in line, a worker at the door will allow a few customers inside at a time. Wait times can vary depending on if people stay or take their matcha to go. Their menu is a decent sized and love that it's all matcha or hojicha based drinks. The workers are all very nice and the inside seating is so nice! I especially love the mat seating. I finally got to try this after the lines had died down a little bit, and I've got to say - I wish I lived downtown just for this matcha! I stood outside for ~10 minutes then was admitted to order. They are very thoughtful in their creations and have lots of customization and adjustment options. The staff were all super kind, patient, and knowledgeable about the products. 9/10 Strawberry Matcha - ceremonial grade matcha, not too sweet, overall amazing. Only docking for the price - I have a hard time justifying over $12 for a matcha, but definitely worth it for a treat! Please also know there is very limited seating and parking. read more

Really, really good matcha! I got the strawberry matcha with oatmilk, 50% sweetened with agave. The strawberry was perfect, not too sweet or overpowering. The matcha still came through and had a great flavor and consistency. They only have one matcha powder at the moment as the other one sold out but should be getting both back soon. I will be back to try the hojicha and other matcha blend! The staff are really friendly, and my drink was prepared right away. I didn't wait long. Parking is tough. There's a paid lot nearby and some street parking in front. Taz is a must-try if you love matcha. read more

Amazing service ! First time here and the two baristas were super patient in going over the different drinks they offered. Went with the red bean chashi matcha latte with jasmine syrup and the hojicha latte with brown sugar and black sesame cream top and both were so good ! The red bean matcha latte was super smooth and not too sweet (didn't have them adjust the sweetness at all) . The Hojicha latte had a nice earthy note to it . Would definitely recommend to any matcha lover and can't wait to visit this place again! read more

Absolutely loved this place. I think it's important for Yelpers to keep in mind when reviewing small businesses that they are SMALL, and it takes time to acclimate to a huge customer base, especially when you have just opened and it BOOMS. We arrived at opening and there's already a line curled around the block at no fault of their own, even with six staff behind the counter moving at top speed. For the drinks and hospitality, 5 stars! Had the hojicha and shogun, both actually were surprisingly great. Waiting in line, 1 star, but that's NOT their fault and I'm glad they didn't rush me during my order just so that they can move the line along faster. read more

Got a regular matcha latte with 50% sweetness and jasmine syrup. Overall I think it was pretty good but is it worth the hour wait and almost $10 for a drink. Definitely NOT. It pretty much taste like a basic matcha and something I make at home. But I would come back to get the cream top read more
Very cute cafe with high quality matcha! I got the standard matcha latte with jasmine syrup. They have two different types of matcha powder so if you have a preference on the notes you can choose. They also have many interesting cream tops that I wasn't able to try. As for seating, there's about two floor tables and the bar, so I wouldn't suggest coming here to do work. Yes, finally an authentic Matcha spot in Seattle Washington. While I am not a huge fan of the authentic flavor as weird as it sounds because I am used to the sweet milky flavors of the ones elsewhere. It is nice to get that rooty earthy Matcha taste however the strawberry syrup here was way too sweet. Great service and overall great experience. I would come back and give it another try read more
Taz matcha is worth the hype. If you don't want to wait in line, stop complaining and go on an early weekday. Vivian and Lillian are the nicest baristas! They helped me walk through every step of ordering and now I'm a pro. I ordered an iced matcha latte with the chiran harvest, 100% sweet with jasmine syrup, whole milk and banana cream top ($7.89). It hits every time. Every drink is made to order and you get to watch them whisk right in front of you. The shop is small, you're not guaranteed a seat. They announce a new or returning cream top every week on their instagram and I always look forward to it! I would highly recommend! read more

BEST MATCHA IVE EVER HAD The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable! Before I ordered the cashier walked me through the different flavor profiles of each type of matcha and what paired well with each. I ended up ordering the Chashi matcha with Strawberry and oat milk. Though it was on the pricier side it was worth every penny and I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. The matcha was smooth and bold but not overwhelming. The strawberry was the perfect amount of sweet and tart. I like my matcha strong but if you like a sweeter drink I'd highly recommend adding sweetener in addition to the strawberry. The place itself was very clean and minimalistic. I honestly wish my apartment looked like it. It is small so keep in mind you might need to take your drink to-go. read more

Love having a new matcha shop in downtown Seattle! Ordered a strawberry matcha and The matcha is so fresh and tasty- you can tell the syrup they use is handmade, not canned syrup. I love how you can choose the type of matcha you'd like. Service was also great- super friendly! can't wait to try more different drinks and some of their food items! read more
Best matcha in Seattle. I've tried countless matcha spots and popups in Seattle and most of them miss the mark. I usually leave feeling it was a waste of time and money, swearing to never return. My friends and I waited around 45-60 minutes on a late Saturday morning. Service was phenomenal. The staff and owner were incredibly kind, patient, and genuinely thankful that so many people showed up before they even announced their grand opening. I appreciate the efficiency in taking people's orders as they wait outside and hope they keep this up!! We received complimentary chashi and chiran matcha spots and an extra rice krispy treat (from a very minor mistake). Chiran is more bitter, while chashi is smoother and more floral. The interior is small but super cute, with bar seating and two low tables. I ordered an iced matcha latte with matcha cream top (whole milk, 25% sweet, chashi blend, jasmine syrup) and it was great! They provided jasmine syrup on the side in case 25% wasn't sweet enough, and I did end up using it, so my drink was probably closer to 50% sweet overall. One friend loved their strawberry matcha, while the other liked my order more. The egg sandos and rice krispies were ok. Maybe worth trying, but the matcha here is definitely the highlight. I'll return for the matcha or to try hojicha! This was a great experience and the staff made it better! I personally thought it was worth the wait. read more
new matcha spot in town, and everybody knows it! definitely expect a wait when you come. the store is small but cozy and so cute! there's bar seats and the cutest japanese floor table/seats. definitely worth the wait though. they handwhisk their matcha to order. you can choose between two types of matcha, one is more earthy, the other is more floral. i opted for the chashi which is the one thats more floral because i wanted to get the jasmine syrup. the matcha latte was perfectly balanced, the matcha flavor is definitely there, and the jasmine syrup is subtle and doesn't overpower the matcha! service was so kind, there was someone manning the door so the space didnt feel too crowded. one of the owners took our orders before we went in to make sure everything was a little more efficient and stopped to chat with all of us and even handed out bottles of water while we waited! so kind and i will definitely come back to try the other matcha option! read more

Unbelievably the best matcha I've had out... no exaggeration. Worth it completely to go out early in the day & queue for a beverage. The service is impeccable, everyone helps you with your questions, and the owner is SO kind and welcoming. Really feels like you're just "home" enjoying stranger's company. And the delicious beverages are just the plus ;') Their matcha is earthy, smooth and creamy: they have 2 tea blends and if you have any questions, it's all written out on the menu the tasting notes!! But staff was so quick to help ensure you get your perfect blend. I drink matcha quite a lot so I opted for the more robust flavor profile and changed up my order each time I went, since they have seasonal flavors, etc. So cozy in there as well -- little tables to the ground (shoes off) where you can sit and high top counter where you can watch them make your matcha bevs. Really worth it and congrats to this small biz for really doing it right read more

Very upset that i live literally on the other side of the country because this is by far the best matcha i have ever had. I had the red bean matcha with the chashi blend. Perfectly whisked with no lumps and not overly sweet. I ordered on the kiosk so i didn't have much interaction with the staff but they seemed friendly enough and my drink came out within 5 minutes. The inside was a vibe with the tatami seating but since i was alone i didn't want to take up space so i just took my drink to go. read more

The hype is real! We did have to wait 30-40 mins on weekday but I would say it was worth it! I really loved the ambience of the cafe and how the matcha is so customizable! I ordered a strawberry matcha with/ chashi blend, whole milk, standard 4g, agave, and no cream top! It was about $10 which is a bit pricey but it was high quality and one of the best l've ever had! read more
The workers are so good about their line and making sure everyone has space to come in. We each tried something different and everything was so good! I got the red bean matcha with black sesame cold foam, jasmine syrup sweetener, and 25% sweet. The seating inside is either Japanese seating on the mats w/ a table (no shoes) or on the bar counter seating. read more

We visited on Saturday and had such a great time. The 40-minute wait flew by, and now that you're close to my office, I'm already looking forward to making this my go-to treat on office days! The long queue was absolutely worth the wait. Thank you for creating a calm, welcoming space that allows each guest to truly enjoy the experience without feeling rushed or crowded. My husband and I love supporting new shops during soft openings, but we usually feel a bit anxious with long waits and the pressure to leave quickly. This time, though, we really enjoyed watching the staff carefully prepare each matcha and soaking in the peaceful atmosphere you've created. Having a team member come out to take orders was a smart touch--it really helped keep things moving smoothly. read more
