Very surprised by the reviews. We didn't care much for the food, the best thing was their cheese pizza and even that wasn't mind blowing. Their falafel is a bit to over seasoned for our taste,we have actually never had a falafel We didn't enjoy,until now. Same thing w the beef shawarma, over seasoned, dry and even tasted old and cold . The texture was too stringy and the only thing u can taste is the lbs of seasoning ,yuck!. The bread it came with was very good though.Spinach pie was fresh, but tasted more like purslane (verdolagas) than spinach. It was very bitter and had a strong lemon taste. It was still okay, but wasn't expecting that exactly. The falafel sandwich bread was real good and the veggies fresh, we literally took out the falafel and the rest was fine. They seem to put pickles everywhere. Service though, ugh service sucks!! We were a party of 4, all except 1 got meals in a reasonable amount of time but it really seems like they had forgotten about that fourth one. We say this because besides the wait there was a same exact order called and when we approached the counter they said it was for another customer , the one who came after us and we heard him ordering (so it's not like he phoned ahead). When we inquired about ours they said it was coming. When we inquired again 5 min after that they said it just takes longer (it was half beef/chicken shawarma plate) . We understand that that might be true, but cant help but wonder why the ppl after us where given the same exact order before us if we placed our order first. Maybe regulars? Still , very unprofessional. At this point it was just ridiculous so we asked for a refund. Always looking for a great restaurant that serves Arabic food! We found it at Taza Bakery on Devon St. Great hummus, great shwarma! You know it's a great place when most of the people coming in to eat were speaking Arabic. The bread was a flatbread and not the typical pita bread but it was fresh and soft. Afterwards we tried the baklava. It was some of the best we've tried - not as sweet as some we've had but certainly dessert-like. Can't wait to go back! read more

Taza is an excellent place to stop in for some freshly made lahmabajin, spinach pies, and other baked goods. My wife and I stopped in yesterday and had lahmabajin with egg -- really, really great. Spinach pie was good and had a lot of zing from sumac -- not your regular heavy spinach pie by any means. Everything came to our table warm and freshly pulled from the oven. The counter service is fast and efficient and everything is served with warmth and kindness. There are tables and chairs to dine in but during lunch and early dinner rush you might plan on taking it to go. Parking lot can get a little cramped and full so it might serve you to park on Devon and pay the $1. read more

Tucked in a strip mall on West Devon a mile from the Indian concentrate neighborhood this place is easy to miss in spite the big store sign unless you are looking for it within a 100 feet radius. Lebanese, Syrian, Iraqi, and Turkish breads and wraps is their speciality. As in any decent Middle Eastern bakery they manage to produce savory treats out of plain bread by spreading cheese and/or meat pastes on the top before going back to the oven. The result is what they call lebanese pizza but the indigenous people refer to as Mana'eesh or Manakish. Make no mistake it is a 10 whichever way you choose. Then there are the Huge Shawarma wraps of beef or chicken or both. At first I thought that they are too big to finish in one lunch session but as I approached the halfway point I began to believe that the yumminess is driving me to sadness that it will all be consumed on the spot with nothing to take home for late night munchies. Shawarma is the specially marinated steaks skewered on top of each other then cooked in a vertical grill. They may be confused with Gyros which is made of minced, packed, and processed meat. Shawarma is a Turkish and Middle Eastern while Gyro is Greek. I really like this place! It's my go to shawarma place in the surrounding area. That's my recommendation here but I've also had the meat and cheese pies. Lahimajeen or samoon...one of these terms is the name for the lovely bread of these pies. The Potato pie is mildly spiced, but the star is the dough wrapping both the potato and spinach pies. It was thin, delicate, fresh and tasty. It was both moist, chewy, but had crispy edges, absolutely no grease, and really makes the pies yummy. The fresh squeezed OJ is indeed that, a nice fresh tasting thirst quencher. There was a big brick oven that the bakers were placing lovingly kneeded and shaped pitas, knafee (pies). Yum. The cashier gave me a little tiny donut shaped cookie with a date cardamom/licorish filling. Not on the level of a fine French pastry but certainly fresh and tasty. I love healthy cookies. After placing a large order for one of our employees birthdays today and having the meal delivered for a specific reason like normal deliveries, cause we can't leave our business we realized we were missing a meal. When we called and spoke with the very rude gentleman who wanted nothing to do with helping us we had to go to another restaurant to get our missing meal. The gentleman did not want to take responsibility for the mistake and blamed it on everyone but himself. I was born and raised in Saudi Arabia. The one thing I lament about it, is that I miss the food, especially the shawarma....Until I visited Taza Bakery. I used to live in Chicago for 15 years, and now I live in a super small town in Missouri which is 5.5 hrs away from Devon. Whenever I come back to visit family, I stock up on the beef shawarmas, usually getting like 8 of them, to last me the week. ;D. Taza Bakery = authentic Lebanese/ME fare that is IMO unmatched on the Northside of the city due to several reasons that become obvious upon the very first visit 1) Taza is the cleanest M.E. restaurant I've ever seen, esp by "fast-food" joint standards. The highly efficient & dynamic culture of the place is a testament to Taza's owner -- Mark -- who seems to command the quality-control like a good general or a music conductor. 2) The food quality is very high, in particular their various BREAD specialties and SHAWARMA. The bread is baked in these big, brick ovens literally brought over all the way from Lebanon. 3) Prices. Used to be almost criminally cheap (Lahmajeen for only 1.25? Wow, although recently the price went up to 2.75). Big Shawarma sandwich as low as 3.99 during rush hours! Quite a few generic places I've had Shawarma, it was either dry or almost bland-tasting --- but Taza's Shawarma is of much higher, authentic Lebanese quality + very generous amount + low price = excellent deal. Likewise, Chicken kabob plate combination was only like 6 bucks last time I had it, 10 kebobs, lots of rice, salad, and a piece of their signature bread (that is both more delicious and dwarfs in size the pita bread that other M.E. places serve up)... Top it all off with a freshly squeezed orange or carrot juice using a special machine right in front of you?
