Awesome little spot! This place had the best pearls I've had so far in NYC - nice and soft yet still qq (bouncy) and slightly sweet. The tea was really flavorful. I got the large roasted oolong tea with signature cream and boba pearls. I must admit I picked the oolong because they use tea leaves from Taiwan (my parents are Taiwanese) so maybe I'm biased to like it but it tasted great! The roasted flavor really came out. The next day, I had the lavender black tea with signature cream on top with boba. The lavender flavor was strong without being overpowering, though if you don't like lavender, I wouldn't recommend it. The only thing I would note is that I got the standard sugar level (there's standard, less, and unsweet) and it was less sweet than I'm used to having my boba drinks. It was still amazingly tasty and probably healthier for me, but I'm used to getting 70% sugar at Gong Cha and my standard sugar level tea here was definitely less than that, maybe about like a 50% sugar level if compared to Gong Cha. They seem to have lots of different drink flavors and are about the same price as my regular boba go to places (Gong Cha and Kung Fu Tea). Not as much variety as the chain stores, but the quality of the tea and actual pearls is apparent! I'm super excited that my spouse and I got to try them, since we're staying at a hotel less than a mile away. The venue was smaller than I expected but was very homey with pictures and books. The menu was kind of confusing but I just stuck to whatever I saw on the menu and my taro milk tea. I was warned that the signature taro milk tea was not the regular ones you get at coco's or vivi's. This one was a clear grainy white colored juice. I personally really enjoyed this new unique flavor more than the regular one. $5 and change. I also had the hibiscus flower peach tea with tapioca. I was staying in Astoria with my boyfriend for a weekend trip to NYC. We wanted to get boba before returning back home to Boston but didn't want to go out of our way to get Boba Guys, Tiger Sugar or The Alley. I'm so glad we found Tea and Milk! I got a medium matcha Kit Kat milk tea iced with whole milk, boba and 50% less sugar. The boba pearls are just perfect with the right amount of chewiness. The Matcha Kit Kat flavor wasn't a chocolate taste but really authentic matcha flavor. I left to get lunch and came back a second time to get their signature taro milk tea iced with boba and 50% less sugar. I'm actually really glad I came back to try the taro, it's smooth and milky. I do taste the taro grit texture but I enjoy that because I know I'm not drinking powder. The shop is really cute and clean. The girl working there is really nice and just so welcoming. Tea and Milk is known for their really "natural" way of infusing flavors. It's not your typical bubble tea joint where you are served with syrup and I think that is my biggest struggle. I'm not a big fan of the infused flavors, and the price is higher than most bubble tea locations because of their ingredients. I'm not a big fan of taro and normally don't get it but it was so yummy here that I ended up getting two more to go! Their taro is not made of the usual powder stuff that the other bubble tea places use. They use the actual root so it's thicker than normal bubble tea. I asked for it to be less sweet and it was perfect. It really grasped the flavor of taro and the 1.5 hours I was sitting there and reading was probably the highlight of my day. Local spot for boba (and coffee)- was recommended the classic root tea by my cousins but was feeling basic and opted for a black milk tea with boba with less sugar and half and half ($4.90). Boba is a little smaller than what im used too but the texture is there! Also the tea tastes pretty legit, not flowery like some of that powdery stuff they use at chain boba places. They seem to have substitutes for all you lactose intolerant ppl, and at least one vegan option as well. Atmosphere was chill- this is a modest boba place thats not trying to be something its not with gaudy decorations and the sort. I like the fact that it is a local business so if you like to support the community you're living in, then you should pay it a visit sometimes. What attracted me to Tea and Milk were its Taro milk tea and Oolong tea with signature cream and those were the two that I decided to order. I really liked the taro milk tea! As already stated many times before, they make it out of real taro instead of the fake purple stuff that you get at other places. I liked the thick consistency and subtle sweetness of it. The oolong tea with signature cream was very tasty and refreshing! The cream added a nice flavor and texture to the tea but I still prefer the cream at other places (ex. the rock salt cheese at Happy Lemon) because they have a more savory taste to them. Over $8 for the two drinks, which is kind of pricey but I think its somewhat reasonable since you're paying for quality tea. Welcome to the hood, Tea + Milk! Already a big hit with locals from their exposure at LIC and Astoria Flea, Tea + Milk committed to the Astoria neighborhood and fan-base with a brick-and-mortar location just a couple blocks from the Broadway or 36th Ave N/Q station. Quality is their stated focus, and from my experience they try their best to stick to it. I've tried a handful of teas, all of which are very, very strong. So if you like your tea less strong, add more milk and sugar to even it out. Personally, I like it strong, and have enjoyed the roasted oolong (good hot, but deliciously refreshing cold with milk), taro (fresh, lives up to the hype), and the hibiscus peach white tea. The hibiscus white tea is very refreshing on a hot day - I foresee myself getting more of it as the days continue to get hotter. It's quite good with aloe. Their taro is quite unique and worth trying. Clearly bubble tea drinkers have been deprived of fresh taro and are accustomed to powdered, Barney-purple versions of the flavor. So the fresh taro (fresh to the point of finding yourself chewing on taro chunks in your drinks!) is greatly appreciated. They also serve delicious baked goods from City Bakery and two variations of the Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches. I tried their classic banh mi for the first time over the weekend, and it was freakin delicious. Quite unusual for a banh mi in that a spread of pate was the main flavor agent, and they managed to pull it off without the pate overwhelming the rest of the sandwich. Yum. I will be back for more. Price wise, it's not quite as affordable as you might think given its location. Especially if you add a topping, chances are you're looking at over $5 for your cup of tea. A carefully crafted, made-with-love, customized to your level of sugar preference, topped with decadent cream if you wish, cup of tea. Owners are quite nice, I've chatted with them a handful of times. Always friendly, courteous, willing to discuss new ideas for the place. When they first opened there were a few kinks, they didn't have the banh mi sandwiches and some of the toppings for the teas for a while, but now they've settled on earlier hours (7am weekdays!) and seem to be getting into a groove. I've tried this little tea joint before they had a store front way back when they only had a booth at the Long Island City Flea. The guys running this business are all pretty cool. The first time visiting their booth, I had the roasted oolong with signature cream. It was at a time when they were starting their new line of signature cream teas. First taste and I was hooked! You must try your first sip before mixing then mix it altogether to drink later. Initially I thought it would've tasted like any other milk tea combo. But their signature cream is light in consistency, while maintaining the creamy taste of traditional milk tea similar to the old Chinese bakery but with better tea quality. I tried to ask for their secret, but they won't budge. Now that they have opened up an actual store front, I had to go visit! The shop it adorable, it's tiny but there are a decent amount of seatings. The team is laid back and nice. I ordered the roasted oolong with signature cream again and they are consistent on taste. This review is waaaaay long overdue. I've started getting my milk tea fix from tea and milk from the moment they opened. I got to know the owner who was surprisingly a good friend of my coworkers in the past. I'm not a Taro milk tea fan, however, I only drink theirs. It's made from an actual taro root instead of powder, the consistency didn't bother me and I love the fact that it's not sweet. Also, their oolong with the signature cream is soooooo good. All of their tea are made fresh and you can actually taste it. The place itself is very chill and they have games for customers to enjoy. I was checking out the other food stalls, and was really tempted to get a Thai iced tea at one of the stalls out front, but decided to wait till we saw what all the stalls had to offer and it's a good thing that we did. Tea n Milk is at the back of the market, but I'm sure you won't miss them! They have pretty ladies taking down your orders and handsome gentlemen brewing your milk tea behind them. I like the fact that they use actual tea bags and slices of fresh fruit and not some powder mix with artificial flavoring. Every cup is unique, freshly brewed and refreshing. I wish these guys were here at the beginning of the summer! I tried the black milk tea, while my friend got the apple green tea. Okay..so this review was long overdue.... I've probably came here a handful of times just to try out the drinks and their foods that they have to offer and i have to admit that i'm hooked! I've tried all of their "vintage" drinks which consisted of their black tea, jasmine green tea and their roasted oolong. By far the one that i order the most is their oolong. It has a really good strong flavor without it being too much. And adding it with half and half doesn't overwhelm the flavor of the tea. Although i like my milk tea a bit more on the creamy side...WHICH i definitely recommend the signature cream if your more onto the creamier side. The employees let me tried the cream as is and it's sooo good. It is more on the heavier side compared to other places that have their cream. Which i love because it reminds me of whipped buttercream. I was feeling a bit adventurous one time ( hah! yeah right) and decided to get the jasmine green tea with the sig. cream. I never was a fan of jasmine green tea just because of the strong floral taste (IMO) but my friend loves it. So i thought why not!? BEST.DECISION.EVER! It was sooo good. Might have to admit that i crave it more than my beloved oolong. Prices vary depending on what your ordering and whether you want toppings like bubbles or what kind of milk you want. So it could go between 4ish to 5ish bucks. You might think " OMG! That's a bit much for just tea!", you have to think that they don't use any POWDER! OR any artifical sugar! Plus they have these nifty blender looking machines that brew your tea right then and there without you wondering when the heck that big batch of tea was made. They also serve 2 different bank mi's. The classic which consists of cold cuts of pork, ham and a generous spread of pate'. And their beef. I've tried both, and while both are equally delicious, my favorite is the classic. It is on the lighter side compared to the beef but i really think the sauce that they use and the pate ( omg the pate...) was the real winner for me. While it is on the pricier side ( $6.75 + tax...comparing it to the ones that I've had in chinatown that costs around $5), I really think it's worth the price. While I have been a regular customer of theirs since their early days at LIC Flea, they have the right formula for brewed teas and tapioca. It was  no surprise to me that they would set up shop soon after in Queens not far from their roots, which I'd assume was a tremendous undertaking, two years into their existence. 4.9/5.0 Harken back to their early days at LIC Flea, they were able to quickly build a following with the community (despite what many believe, flea market visitors are predominantly locals). Fast forward to 2015, they signed a lease in nearby Astoria near the Museum of Moving Image, decent sized shop to set up a cafe, and cater to the caffeinated beds of locals. It really didn't matter that it was tea or coffee. Seating will only accommodate 8-10 in total. They've picked up Dough to supply them with doughnuts each morning. The only thing that might keep some from Manhattan from visiting is that it's in Queens. To me, that means trekking an extra 10mins out of midtown, for the best bubble tea the city has to offer. You can do it! I've dropped in a few times after their grand opening to try out their Earl Gray and Jasmine green tea blends with bubbles. Each cup is brewed on the spot and added with your choice of sweetener (half, quarter, etc). The bubbles are cooked perfectly with the right amount of chew and texture. In a word: Delish! The tea here was great. We came to Astoria in hopes for some boba and this place did not disappoint. I got the Matcha Strawberry Latte, and the drink had both a good balance of matcha and strawberry flavor. The bubbles were also soft and the service was fast. We also ordered the Earl Gray Milk Tea and it was good, but just a bit sweet. I would recommend adjusting the sugar levels if you get this drink. Top quality tea, bites and service. We were so excited to hear they finally opened up, and finally made time to run over. If you know me at all, you'll know how much of a tea snob I am. I randomly came across Tea and Milk at the LIC Flea some time ago and seeing as they were the only vendors offering bubble tea, it was a no brainer. We were blown away with the attention to detail and friendliness of the staff- not to mention the individually brewed tea and the fresh ingredients! Of course I have to add on to the hype- the Taro Milk Tea is amazing. This is hands down the BEST taro tea I've ever had. Better than anything I've ever tried or made myself- and seeing that I'm very conceited about my own tea, this is a big thing for me to say. Just saying that they use fresh taro doesn't do it any justice. You just HAVE to try it for yourself. You will never go back to powdered taro again. The Hibiscus Peach White Tea is a bit sweeter and on the floral side, but that's to be expected. It's refreshing, and a nice blend of fruit and floral. I'd get this when I want something lighter than a (taro) milk tea. The Peppermint Cocoa Milk Tea is exactly as they describe- like biting into a peppermint patty, except without a gross sugar after-taste! It's extremely refreshing and doesn't feel heavy at all, and left us with incredibly minty fresh breath. I tried some of my friend's Chai tea and I have to say, it was very nicely spiced! It was smooth and spicy and absolutely delicious! I am looking forward to coming back and getting this for myself. Some things I love- they don't over sugar their drinks OR their tapioca- WITHOUT me having to ask for half sugar! They make up for it by brewing fresh tea, so it's never better. This place emphasizes fresh ingredients and quality teas. They shine in that their teas are packed in flavor. They also offer bites - I was excited to see Banh Mi on the menu, but we had just over-eaten nearby. We ordered a Red Velvet cookie with cream cheese frosting bake in, which they insisted on heating up for us (THANK YOU!!!). The cookie was mouthwateringly delicious. Totally worth it. I really want to come back and try those adorable cupcakes though- that Amaretto Cupcake looks/sounds really good. I cannot even put into words how excited I was to learn Tea and Milk was opening right near my place! I've had their product at the local flea markets and absolutely loved what they offered. The first warm day of Spring seemed like the perfect opportunity to try their famous bubble tea again. It was so good! My wife got a peach tea with boba and I got the rooibos with boba and their signature creme (GET IT!!). Went back later for the Taro and...omg, so good. Tea n' Milk is a standout at LIC Flea. I tried their Apple Chia and Roasted Oolong with bubbles (tapioca!) Apple Chia was light, refreshing, not overly sweet, and I enjoyed the apple slices and chia seeds. Roasted Oolong was creamy, layered, and uniquely distinct in taste. The thick layer of cream/milk and spice on top blends well with the strong tea. I also got a taste of their Taro Milk Tea and it is hands down the BEST I've ever had. Freshly blended taro without the purple coloring you get from powdered stuff! These guys value quality ingredients and you can tell that each cup is created with love when using fresh teas and fruits. I'll be back to try the peach tea that everyone raves about. read more
