A local favorite of my family. We come at least once a month. We love good Chinese food, being that my parents lived in NY and LA Rowland Heights area for 30+ years. We enjoy having the option of ordering dimsum the entire day, as well as a full spread menu. They serve Cantonese dishes that we don't see elsewhere. The restaurant is clean, which is rare for a Chinese place and waitresses have always been very nice. Unfortunately, Journey to the Dumpling opened a block away. Although very hip and trendy, the food is definitely not as good and it's pricey. If in the area, give this place a try!! read more

I feel like this is an institution in midtown. This place has always been around even since I was a kid. The food is always great if you order off their al a carte or their lunch specials. Also, if you live or work in downtown, they deliver for free as long as the order is over $20. This is really nice when you want to do a team lunch and everyone gets what they want. Also, if you want to do their party trays, the staff can explain the sizes, prices, and how many people it would feed. The restaurant has its own parking lot but there is limited spaces, so be prepared to park on the street. Inside has plenty of seating and are set up like most typical chinese restaurants. read more

3.5 stars means good dim sum. It also means you'll probably get one really nice waitress and one that is older and a little short with you. Teacup house is quiet, the food comes fast, the dim sum tastes pretty fresh, and like all dim sum is affordable and filling. Come here with friends mid morning to share lots of small plates and enjoy a wide variety of tasty food and perhaps a pot of some oolong tea. The noodles were falling off, and the meat was so bland. The Kung pao chicken had no spice to it. The chicken used was just like all the other chicken in the chow mein and the rice big bland hunks. My family and I have been going to this place for years. Growing up this was a main spot for my family to have dinners or dim sum every couple months. The waitress there is amazingly sweet and awesome with getting food out to you, I am happy to see her there after all these years. The food has always been consistently good and really feels like good home cooking. Our staples are the peking spare ribs, beef chow fun (dry), filet cod with corn, and a chow mein--hong kong style. The peking spare ribs are good pieces of meat and not too fatty, a yummy sweet and salty flavor. I love having extra sauce to put over my rice. The fried cod is soooo goood. It's a must have, the batter of the fish is so nice and crispy! The fish inside is also great and not dry. The sweet corn just tops it off. TLDR; my husband and my "go-to" when we're craving some authentic Asian food in the Sacramento area! The price for the portions are hard to beat! My husband and I found this place because I was craving some good, homey Asian food and my husband was looking to make the best use possible of a Doordash coupon he had received. The common ground we settled on was Tea Cup House. Despite the poor Yelp reviews, we gave the place a shot. Beef brisket in clay pot - Our go-to and favorite. Piping hot chunks of tender beef in a savory sauce. There are some bok choy chunks at the bottom of the dish, but don't fret. You will get your money's worth with the amount of meat in this dish! Beware for those chunks of ginger that look like meat or else you'll be in for an unpleasant treat! Steamed whole flounder - Silky steamed whole flounder that was so nicely presented/packed "to go" that my husband and I thought we were eating one course of those 10-course meals at some fancy Asian restaurant. If you love fish or anything seafood, this dish will not disappoint. It is lightly marinated and the meat is so easy to debone. Sweet and sour chicken - Chunks of chicken that are lightly battered, fried, and mixed with a sweet and sour sauce. If you love the usual sweet and sour meat dishes, this one is a must try. Unlike other places that use lots of onions, green bell peppers, and pineapple to fill the dish, the one has a lot more chicken than green onion and bell peppers. Also, there is more chicken than the batter around it. As with some places, you don't go for the customer service, you go for the food. This is the case for this place. They have a small parking lot at the back of the shop, but you have to drive around the perimeter to get to it (because of those one-way streets typical of midtown/downtown). Each entree is around $9 and I've found that the menu when you search tea cup house on google has accurate prices. Everything is flavorful, but I don't particularly like their walnut shrimp since there's a ton of flour batter surrounding the shrimp. However, the entrees we always order and enjoy are: - peaking spareribs (savory red sauce) - spareribs with spicy salt (same as above but without the sauce) - tofu and fish clay pot - beef pan fried noodles - green beans in black bean sauce (green beans are cooked perfectly with a crunch!) - beef chow fun All of their items are tasty and inexpensive. This place is awesome, they always have good deals and combos. I usually get the house fried rice here and it's delicious. Also they do something most places never do for take out. If you order pan fried noodles (which are dry and crunchy noodles mixed with sauce, veggies and meat), they keep the noodles and toppings separate so the noodles aren't all soggy by the time you get home. Came to Tea Cup House looking for dim sum. Originally, we had some reservations looking at the menu and noting just how small the operation was. I mean, would it even be fresh? However, as dishes came out, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of a number of a dishes: The shrimp stuffed eggplant was excellent. The eggplant was soft yet still had a beautiful royal purple color to it. The shrimp paste in between was also hearty in portion size but not too overwhelming. The rice noodle rolls were a little thick in my opinion, but rolled evenly and also contained a good amount of filling. The noodles were definitely freshly steamed too - you could tell because it was smooth and still supple. The steamed sponge cake was also delicious. It was sweet but not too much so and it was also very fluffy and stood nice and high...deceptively difficult to make too. Oddly enough, our most disappointing dishes were traditional offerings of shrimp dumplings and pork dumplings. They were small in size and looked like they were steamed well in advance and steamed again just prior to arriving at our table. That being said, the value for dim sum here is great. 14 dishes cost just over $60 which is impossible to find in San Francisco! So while you don't get to experience the hubbub of a traditional dim sum lounge with rolling carts and lots of hustle and bustle, it was definitely a nice experience to just sit and enjoy dim sum with no rush. read more

Well, I have been to MANY of the Chinese Restaurants in Sacramento & the Bay Area. Sadly to say this restaurant has to be one of the worst! My friend & I arrived for lunch. We ordered a couple of combo plate menu items. I ordered the beef mongolian & my friend ordered the mixed shrimp with shrimp. Server brought out the house hot & sour soup. Athe main entrees came out shortly afterwards. My friend immediately noticed the food was lukewarm. Mine was the same. Upon telling the server about the situation, she only offered to MICROWAVE the food!!! What, how insulting! After 7 or 8 minutes, she beought the entree back. LAME! As far as the food goes, It was some of the saltiest food EVER! When we to d the server about this fact, she suggested we just order the food with less soy sauce (next time)! WTF! First time here! Came during lunch and it was awesome! Before ordering, you are given egg drop soup and wonton chips. If you want dim sum, make sure to ask for the menu since they only give the lunch special menu first. Hubby ordered the kung pao seafood and the fried rice was really good. Food i ordered Wonton soup w bbq pork. - consist of 2 wonton and two pieces of sliced pork. Bok choy and almost flavorless broth. Tomatoe beef chowmein- basically sweet-and-sour sauce with a bunch of bell peppers cut up and poured over dry noodles. This was terrible. Beef with broccoli- The beef is so over marinated it practically falls apart in your mouth like Gel. It looks white as well, not very appealing and the broccoli was hard like a rock. That should be great but it wasn't Tin foil wrapped chicken- great I ordered two servings of Steamed rice that was left out of the order. Who needs rice with Chinese food right lol Overall today's food was not worth the $78 I paid for it. It is like who's ever working in the kitchen hates their job. The problem with T cup Café is inconsistency I don't know if it's the same person cooking but you can definitely tell the difference day today or early afternoon to evening. I came here with some friends for lunch. The service was pretty good and the food was even better. We got a seat pretty fast and ordered right away. First we got some sodas and a friend and I also got their tea. The tea was nice and smokey, I really enjoyed it, it always pairs great with dim sum. We got fried rice, crispy noodles and a whole lot of dim sum. I haven't been to a dim sum place in years so this was a nice refresher. My favorite dish was most likely their shumai, it's always a classic, but they really know how to make theirs. You could taste the pork and the lightness of the shrimp. None of our dim sum fell apart or was difficult to eat. Other notable mentions were the pork soup dumplings, calamari and the crispy noodles. The soup dumplings did leak a little, but that's always expected, they were super soft and delicious. I'm not a big fan of calamari, but they really hit it out of the park with these, they were super crispy, tender and seasoned well. The crispy noodles soaked up the sauce which made them softer and flavorful, it was the first dish to be completely demolished. I'm happy my friends took me to this place, I need to go to dim sum places more often. read more

Tea Cup House is an awesome spot to grab some takeout if you're in the midtown area! The dumplings are fantastic and they have a bunch to choose from! I wish I could try them all. The classic entrees are good to! I got sesame chicken and it tasted great! The rice was fresh and sticky and the sauce on the chicken was delicious. Only complaint would be that I wish the chicken was crispier but with that said I still downed all of it without a problem. The dumplings where juicy and full of meat!
