Tea Cup House is an awesome spot to grab some takeout if you're in the midtown area! The dumplings are fantastic and they have a bunch to choose from! I wish I could try them all. The classic entrees are good to! I got sesame chicken and it tasted great! The rice was fresh and sticky and the sauce on the chicken was delicious. Only complaint would be that I wish the chicken was crispier but with that said I still downed all of it without a problem. The dumplings where juicy and full of meat! This place has their own parking and it was easy to find. It is like an old fashion Chinese restaurant. The dim sum emu came with a picture menu with numbers and a pencil and a full able order form. The direction's clear. You want buns, look at the picture, look for the number on the order fork, check it. The food is ok only. It was not greasy but the ingredient inside - like the filling for the pork buns were very little. The chili container was really nasty. I have a thing about restaurants not wiping down their bottles or containers at the end of the day. It is really unappetizing when it is crusty - makes you wonder how old is that. Are they refilling it? We ordered the regular items with the especially which is the porridge. The meat they used was not the best meat. I might never return again. read more

Authentically Cantonese!!! Turnip cake is authentically hand made. Soft and hot on the outside. Crispy on the outside. The spare ribs, lotus leaf wrapped sweet rice with pork, and oyster sauce rolls are as good if not better than the dim sum restaurants in Los Angeles. Everything is well seasoned. Update: the lady no longer works there and this place is amazing once again! The reason why this place gets 2 stars is because they at least have decent food BUT they have horrible customer service and treat the people who keep them in business like dirt. I have been coming here for a while and love it because the dim sum is always delicious and filling. With that being said, I ALWAYS order the pork and shrimp dim sum. On Friday I made a phone order and repeated my order TWICE and I clearly heard the person I spoke with repeat my order exactly how I said it. I pick it up and get home only to realize they forgot to include my pork and shrimp dim sum. So I called and was very nice at first UNTIL the women I spoke with got condescending with me. "You did not order dim sum I don't know what this pork and shrimp dim sum is. I don't know what you're talking about..." When I asked her if she thought I was stupid because I have been ordering the same thing for a while now she answered with "we don't have pork and shrimp dim sum"... alright... they might not care that they just lost a good customer but people need to know how rude they can be. Watch out for the younger female server with the short bob. That's who treated me like I didn't know what I was talking about. Craving dim sum and most of the other popular dim sum places I called were literally out of their dim sum. I found this place on yelp and although the reviews were not to hot, we decided to give it a try. First impressions were not good as we pulled up and walked inside. Interior was outdated and had that bad Chinese hole in the wall vibe. I ordered the combination dinner plate which included general chicken, honey walnut prawns, chow mein, an egg roll and sweet and sour soup. The general chicken and walnut prawns were pretty good and large portions too. The chow mein was average but tasty. The sweet and sour soup was very bland. I also ordered dim sum and this was the whole reason why I went in the first place. I've never had an addiction but I guess I'm addicted to dim sum and I crave those little pieces of awesomeness like a crack addict craves their next high. I ordered the shu mai, har gow, sticky rice and chicken in tea leaf, fish balls, chive dumpling, sesame balls and spare ribs. I was not disappointed with the dim sum! My favorite was the shu mai and the sticky rice and chicken in tea leaf. Definitely satisfied my craving! The employees provided great service and were really attentive to our party of 8. Will definitely be back. A hidden gem, so don't judge a book by its cover. read more

This is my new go to Chinese lunch downtown. I was grumbling to my neighbor how challenging it is to find a good Chinese place downtown. He guided me to this place. I think I've had dim sum here before and it wasn't that great but I had the lunch special today (rice & chow mien combination plates with an entree) and it was very satisfying. The food came fast, was hot and fresh. What more could you ask for? Well, in addition to that, the prices were affordable (also hard to find downtown) and the portions were great. Super happy! I would say that this is a decent/average Chinese restaurant. My coworkers and I order here for delivery by phone whenever we are craving Chinese food. We work in downtown near 5th Street, and there aren't any Chinese restaurants near us, so Tea Cup's free delivery option fits the bill. They offer free delivery if you order $20 worth of food -- not bad at all and that's easy for us to do since there's six of us. Our food has been delivered in less than 30 minutes when we ordered before 12pm. When we ordered after 12pm, it took about 40 minutes to be delivered. Still not bad considering it's a busy lunch hour during that time. Food dishes that I have liked from Tea Cup are the house fried rice, salt and pepper fish (not on the menu but they make it!), shrimp with spicy salt, schezuan beef, kung pao chicken, chow mein, vegetables with garlic sauce, and wonton soup. Food items that I didn't like from Tea Cup were their broccoli beef, beef chow fun, tofu clay pot, and dim sum. Prices are affordable and portions are generous. This is definitely my go-to Chinese restaurant for lunch at work due to the taste and convenience, but I wouldn't find myself eating here outside of work. read more

Both We ordered couple of dim sum , they served us hot tea and brought us water too. It was empty with a few customers and a huge TV screen. Service was good ! If you choose from the menu and not confuse them by making your own order or substitute food of course it will take long. LIKE that they don't close between 2-5 , we were even watching them set up for dinner. It feels like the last day of a theatrical production. Let down. Anticipation. Ok. So I am a bit dramatic. Eh. Our "last supper" had to be humble. We chose Tea Cup because we wanted a light meal. But that is quite impossible in this family. It was supposed to be a big bowl of wonton soup to share. But then we added...the spareribs in black bean dinner deal..and the chicken wings dinner deal..and of course some rice. ..and don't forget dessert...egg tarts. Duct tape for strategically placing over our mouths should have been included in our order. The soup, exceptional. Really beautiful bbq pork. The wonton filling, plump, complex, with even shitaki mushroom. Plenty of sweet vegetables. And a chicken broth that rivals the best Chinese restaurant. The black bean ribs, tender good. Very meaty, steamed oh so lightly, and no bone shards. A generous portion. But the chicken wings, you are my favorite. I have been searching for you for at least a year since we retired. We live in a place that thinks Chinese food means badly made sweet and sour chicken and moo goo gai pan. Dear wings, you make me so happy. Lightly marinated, crispy chicken wings (the middle part) with little nuggets of garlic and hot peppers. Tender, moist, I worship your wing tips. My only reality check, the custard tarts. Way too sweet and in a pie pastry that was not flakey. A complimentary plate of orange wedges and fortune cookies. Now that...that's a real dessert! Wonderful, old school Cantonese. Comfort food. I've been a customer of this place for years mostly for dim sum but I have a new found appreciation in the Covid era. While their dim sum offerings aren't as extensive as some Chinese restaurants, the dim sum is cooked to order and is always fresh and delicious. And while takeout food can sometimes result in soggy, cold food by the time you eat at home, Teacup does such a great job of packaging the food, providing all the sauces etc so eating at home is almost as good as dine in. Highly recommend coming here and just skipping over the regular menu and asking for the dim sum menu (which they didn't give to us until I asked for it). I came here initially for hot & sour soup, which was good also. Ordered baked BBQ pork buns, Lotus bun, Egg cream bun, Shanghai meat dumpling, and pan seafood dumpling. This place is a go-to for Chinese for many years. Some of the most authentic around Sactown. In 2003 or so we had my daughter's after baptism lunch there for over 20 people. All of them loved it. Went here last night and it was tasty with good portions except one dish. Good portions were Salt-baked pork chops and beef with green beans. Too small a portion was the spareribs in black bean. The waitresses remember us and are very cordial. I noticed that the prices used to be $4.95 a dish for Chinese menu, but has gone up and arrived at $6.25 a dish now. Still very worthy and fair. You can't go wrong with the Chinese menu. Most everything will be a good pick. read more

This is the best Dim Sum I have ever had! OK, this is the only dims I have ever had, but it was very good so it was a great introduction to the world of Dim Sum. The restaurant was nice and our very large group was seated at a large round table with a lazy Susan in the middle to help facilitate our sharing of delicacies. We were greeted and seated and were given menus to review while waiting for the rest of our party. The menus are extensive and the English descriptions are very helpful We all ordered a variety of items that looked good, took recommendations from members of our group more experienced in Dim Sum and I think, maybe order a few random things because they looked interesting. We chose Tea Cup House because they had an abundance of choices from stirfry dishes to dim sum! We were staying at a hotel and called in for delivery and they were willing to deliver straight to our door. They had a $0 delivery fee and only a $20 or so take-out minimum which is not bad at all! The lady on the phone said it would be 40 minutes for our delivery but did take closer to an hour which I did not mind. But if you're in a rush you might want to order pick up or order in advance. We ordered Beef with Broccoli, Green beans with minced pork, Peking Spareribs, Honey Walnut Shrimp, Wor Wonton (with everything), four sides of rice, and two sodas. All dishes were less than $10 each and the total came out to about $60 excluding tip. Prices were great and the portions were even better! My personal favorite dish was the Honey Walnut Shrimp which was perfectly crisp and had just enough sauce for it to be flavorful but not overwhelming! The Beef with Broccoli and the Green beans with pork were also yummy and the veggies tasted very fresh. We had plenty of leftovers and they were great for breakfast again.
