I came on a Friday evening, and let me say -- this place was popping up until 11 pm when I left. It's one of my favorite places to get work done because the workers never come and bother you. However, there aren't too many outlets so just make sure to come with your laptop charged! I got the Tea Maru Latte with oolong tea which comes with three types of boba (orange, strawberry, and sweet potato). Similar to OneZo, they make their own boba in-house, but I would 110% choose this place over OneZo because the drinks are soOo much better!! I got it with 75% sweet and it was perfect, not too overwhelming (aka I finished my large drink in 5 mins). I love that I can still taste the oolong tea. Not to mention they always have deals (20% off, 15% off) through Five Stars which always has me coming back! read more

Not worth the price. For around $5, you get a pretty small "medium" size in comparison to other boba shops in the area. I understand that it is "premium" and "craft" boba since they are making it but if they didn't say that, I feel you wouldn't notice the difference. The menu is pretty confusing since there isn't just a plain OG milk tea and you have to decipher what seems like the most comparable to that. They also don't have the black sesame boba. I'm not sure if they didn't have it at the time but I was offered this and then learned that they didn't have it. In terms of the tea flavor of the drinks, the Panda Latte was OK. It wasn't too sweet with the 50% sweetness and the tea flavor came through. As for the matcha uji latte, it was so sweet. At 50% sweetness, I'm not sure if they messed up, but it was pretty sweet and I couldn't take it. It was a sugar bomb. Even though I understand the concept and it seems like a great place to get work done, the drinks are not worth the price being that it is a small size. read more

I wouldn't consider myself as a big boba fanatic but I would place this boba shop in one of my top five. This place is the only shop I know that serves different types of boba. They have a list of bobas they are serving for the month such as sweet potato, mango, strawberry, and the classic brown sugar boba. I ordered the oolong tea maru latte with mixed boba (which is $1 extra) and I loved it. The boba was soft and chewy and the tea wasn't too sweet for me. They also let you try the different flavors of boba before you order so you can see which one goes with your drink. I was hesitant to add the mixed boba with my milk tea because I wasn't sure how the fruit boba would go with a milk drink but it was surprisingly good. Soooo I really wanted to love this spot but I can't. The boba was fantastic! This was probably the only good part though.... Service: there were plenty of workers this afternoon but none of them seemed to really want to take the time to help us. I am from the west side and have never been in this shop. Staff was not helpful about what makes their shop special, what people normally get, etc. When I go to spots throughout ktown or west la they're always down to chat and make the experience positive...this wasn't same here. Drinks: I got the maru milk tea with brown sugar boba. When I asked for no sugar in the brown sugar milk tea, the guy stated then I would just be asking for milk and boba which made me nervous so I switched it to 50% sugar which was a mistake since my drink tasted like pure sugar. Boba was chewy and delicious without a doubt but this can't make up for a bad drink. My boyfriend got the taro drink. We had both agreed that this was the worst possible drink someone could order. The drink had tons of ice chunks floating and taro bits throughout and it tasted like water with boba and taro. The taro was not fully cooked and was as crunchy as the ice. I just don't think I could ever recommend someone else to try this shop out. I recommend re-training the staff to be more helpful and to not be drinking their drinks behind the counter: doesn't make it things feel sanitary. Went here for the first time with some friends over the weekend and ordered an Uji Matcha Latte with Strawberry Boba. The matcha flavor was good, but a little powdery for my taste. The star of the drink was definitely the strawberry boba. It was fresh and chewy--rightfully so since you can see a worker make it fresh next to the cashier! I might try a different flavor next time to see if their other drinks taste better. But I would come back just for the boba. read more

Drinks are a little on the sweet and pricey side, but I love that they make their own boba! I've tried the strawberry, sweet potato, and black sesame bobas. All have had a different consistency in my opinion, but are true to taste. I didn't like the texture of the black sesame though (but that might be because the sesame seeds make it harder, so not their fault?) I always get the lowest level sugar, but sometimes it's still too sweet for my palate, depending on the drink. I guess I should start trying 0% sugar, but that may not be possible for all drinks, since the flavor often comes from the syrup. Their taro with sweet potato boba has to be my favorite! The drink only comes blended and in large size only, but that's because they put in real pieces of real taro. It's delicious and the sweet potato boba is super soft and chewy. So we decided to come here because of their Xmas boba. We got one tea maru specialty drink and one Okinawa tea. Neither were good, but their specialty drink was especially unsatisfactory. It was sweet in a way that was not enjoyable, to the point where we couldn't finish it. The Okinawa was also a little sweet for my preference; I tend to like to taste my tea and not just sugar and syrup. Their Xmas boba was not my favorite either. The matcha flavor was too overpowering, and did not complement the tea well. Also, they only had one serving left, and were out of the brown sugar boba at 6pm on a Saturday. So a little disappointed in the service. I happened to be super tired by the way, heavy bags on the eyes. I finished my order on the check in cp. The employee was working on an order already. Waited about five min. A lady came in behind me, ordered too. She ended up getting hers first. Finally I saw my order being processed, then a kid came in and asked to pay with cash. She stopped working on my order to help this kid with his order. Before I know it, another employee takes over my order, the kid gets his order then I'm still waiting. I love Tea Maru! After the first time that my friends and I tried this spot, we just kept coming back! Maru Milk is my personal favorite. It's probably the milkiest boba I've tried it has enough sugar and their boba is super good! You can put your boba in the fridge if you cannot finish it and even after keeping it overnight in the fridge, the boba's still soft unlike those from other boba shops which easily get hard. Probably one of the best boba places Ive ever visited. Love the fresh taro milk. Tea Maru is one of the few places that provide real taro in their drinks and it tastes drastically different and better than the places that use powder. Also love their housemade bobas. If you've ever been to places like Meet Fresh or Blackball that have Taro balls and Yam balls, the "boba" at Tea Maru is basically the same but its just made into round sip-able balls. Such a simple yet smart idea. Was initially afraid of trying the sweet potato boba, but it turned out to be one of the best ones. The drinks here are pretty standard, but their different boba options set them apart. If you were to try one thing, it should be the fresh taro milk with sweet potato boba. read more

This place is great for those who like very sweet drinks, for tea lover like me, quality was okay for me. When we came, there wasn't too many people, I liked how it was quiet, good place for those who want to get work done. I do like how they have 4-5 different flavors of tapioca balls which are made in-house, which stands out from competitive boba stores. They also have 2 sizes, but for half of the drinks they only offer the large size, I was bummed since I wanted to order the taro tea, but they only had it in a large size. I got the medium size uji matcha tea latte with cheese foam ($4.25) with 50% sweetness. The tea was way to too sweet for me, even at 50%, can't imagine what 100% sweetness is. The matcha flavor was also subtle, there was much more milk than matcha. Cheese foam was good, it had the right amount of sweetness/salty flavor. The cup size is quite small for a regular size for the price, and it was half filled with ice. If you are looking for a desserty tea drink, this place might be great, maybe I'll try the 25% sweetness the next time I hit this spot. read more

There are so many types of tea here, but the real gem is the boba itself! Little pearls made from fresh fruit--and you can taste it! In the strawberry boba, there are little strawberry seeds; there's sweet potato boba, taro boba, honey boba as well. (Ask for samples!) I really liked the fruity flavors here but I get reduced sugar which I think tastes better. Parking here is pretty easy, and the lines are long but move fast. Recommend checking it out. read more

I love their housemade boba. It's a big difference compared to store brought boba. I've tried so far their maru milk with brown sugar boba, taro milk with sweet potato boba and their uji matcha with strawberry boba. I would have to say their boba consistency is soft and chewy like regular boba but a different soft and chewy texture. It's not dense in the middle and theres flavor to your boba. My favorite by far is their maru milk although it is very sweet. Compared to OneZo, their prices aren't ridiculously high and they have more of a selection on drinks but less flavors for boba. I think they're also less crowded compared to OneZo but both of their parking are horrendous. Tea Maru replaced sharetea & parking is very limited but there is always residential parking where as OneZo's parking structure is always chaos as they are located in a busy plaza. Overall, this place is worth trying. Wish they came out with more flavored boba in the future as I would really like to try it. Their service is a lot friendlier than OneZo as well and everyone here is welcoming. read more

Parking can definitely get hard to find during prime meal/boba hours since there are limited space, but there's plenty of street parking nearby! There are many boba shops that have been popping up all over 626 lately and marketing that they make their own boba. Tea Maru is one perfect example. However, to beat other competition, Tea Maru recognized that it needs something more special and went an extra step further. Tea Maru makes their own specialty boba with different flavors, such as Sweet Potato, Black Sesame, etc. I tried their Honey Milk Tea with black tea and black sesame. I was able to customize the sweetness but they also provide their recommendation (on not going too light on sweetness) since the drink won't taste like much. I trusted their suggestion and was glad that they were right! My friend ordered the Maru milk light with brown sugar boba and those were amazing as well! There aren't a whole lot of table to sit around and work, but good enough space/room for people to chit-chat. It does get slightly loud if there are a few parties in there. I am a boba phenom...or, I'd like to think so! Flavored boba? Umm, yes! That sounds freakin' amazing! Not being from the LA or California, my access to excellent boba is limited so when I found out about flavored boba on my recent LA trip, I had to give it a try for myself. When I first got to Tea Maru, I was paralyzed by all of the options and ensuring that I picked the "right" one. The one that had a great flavor profile and accentuated the taste of the boba. After five minutes, I gave up on finding the perfect combo and selected something that sounded good to me. As a result, I chose a matcha green tea latte with strawberry boba. I actually think it was one of the options on the menu (you can choose an option or make your own). I was happy with my choice but I wasn't as novel of an idea as I made it out to be in my head. There are four boba flavors to choose from: brown sugar, orange, strawberry, and sweet potato. The sweet potato seemed to be the popular option but it didn't sound that attractive to me. I guess I wasn't feel that adventurous that day; however, I would try it the next time I go. I think they may have a featured or seasonal flavor, but those were the only four flavors when I went. If you can't decide, you can choose a mix of boba flavors. The cost is slightly more for this option but at least you get to try all of the flavors. Overall, the boba had great texture and strawberry boba actually tasted like strawberry. My drink was also good as well. It had a great matcha taste and it wasn't overly sweet at 30% sweetness. Yay, for being able to choose my sweetness and ice level, which I feel like should be standard at all boba places. Overall, it was definitely a different boba experience with the various flavors but, were my socks knocked off? Not really. Would I go back? Yes. Are there are flavors I definitely want to try? Yes. I personally don't like pearls in my drink, so for me to say that these pearls tasted bomb is really something! The texture was on point, soft and only a hint sweet.
