I buy a LOT of loose tea and am quite picky about quality so usually shop online. Upon recommendation I visited this shop to buy some tea because I am enthusiastic about supporting local businesses. Two stars because the tea is quite good, but the owner was so standoffish to me - and rude to his server - that I can't bring myself to go back. Maybe I didn't give off the impression of being worth his time as a customer. It was very upsetting and disappointing. Celiac review! Parking here is TERRIBLE. I arrived an hour early to find parking and ended up almost being late because it took so long to find a spot. I ended up getting the very last spot in Palo Alto garage R, which is about a five minute walk away. That aside, Tea time is very lovely on a sunday afternoon. The outdoors seating is nice with full shade from umbrellas that can be retracted. I was sat indoors with my service dog against the wall, as I had requested over the phone. Classical music played on medium-low volume. The staff and owner (?) were all very friendly and professional. They knew the service dog rules and were very respectful about his space. TEA: I ordered my black currant tea and asked about dairy free milk-- only cows milk or soy milk powder. A little strange but, whatever. I received a small pitcher of whole milk and a significant amount of both brown and white sugar cubes. The black currant tea tasted excellent and was brewed perfectly. That's something you can't always count on at other tea places, so I was really chuffed. The pot yielded 4 small cups. FOOD Bear in mind that I am celiac and had ordered the afternoon tea ($55) as gluten free ($2 extra). Therefore, some of the offerings I received may be different than those who can eat gluten. My first course arrived about 10 minutes after my tea did. The quiche was very flavorful and cheesy with lots of veggies. The soup was well spiced with veggies. It certainly did taste and look a bit like canned vegetable soup, but it was still good. The salad was simple with fresh tasting lettuce. The second course, a tiered bit, came with one gluten free cranberry scone, clotted cream and lemon curd, three sandwiches (I chose chicken and walnut, cucumber cream cheese, and egg curry), and the top tier had some fruits, a lemon bar, some deli style cheese slices, a brownie, and a chocolate macaron. First the scone. I am so impressed with their gf scone. Crumbly, yes, but tastes and feels like a regular scone. Faintly lemony, comes out warm, good cranberries. The sandwiches were nice-- the chicken one was very fresh and good. There's no mistaking the gf bread-- it was a weird sandwich choice, being a stodgy brown seedy nut bread. And, the egg one was on the heel of the bread, which was strange-- all crust. They aren't stingy with the sandwich toppings, which is important. Despite the brown-ness of the Apple, all of the fruits were very fresh. I would recommend to Tea Time that they spray or brush their apple slices with lime or lemon to avoid future browning. The brownie was a little dark and fudgy for me but a chocolate-lover would like that I think-- I'm just more of a milk chocolate lady. The macaron was similarly dark. The lemon bar was delicate and a bit on the sweet side, still good. In the reviews, some people complained they didn't get $55 worth of food. I don't agree. By the time I was halfway through my second tier of course 2, I was feeling full. SEATING AND STAFF The chairs looked comfortable but they really need new stuffing-- the back is completely collapsed in, and you can feel every spring in the seat cushion. I asked the waitress if they had a throw pillow I could use and she brought one! Yay. I liked that the waitresses wore identifying aprons but seemed to be allowed to wear whatever outfit they wanted. I prefer it when staff are comfortable. They also both seemed comfortable asking the boss man questions and he was very patient in answering them, from what I witnessed. So it seems staff is treated professionally. WORTH IT? Was it the most amazing food I've ever had? No. But the tea was good, the food was not only nice but it was filling, and the service was very pleasant. I am looking forward to returning. The tea was $63 after tax. HOW IT COMPARES It isn't the most perfect or classy experience, but you get what you pay for-- I didn't come in expecting something out of this world for $55. Those that prioritize an authentic afternoon tea that pays attention to the little things like keeping fruit from browning or serving on good bread may prefer to have tea at the Palace Hotel in SF, where they charge double for a very classy, well put together, and promptly served tea at a gorgeous location with live music, or be okay with canned soup/brown apples/heels of bread/deli cheese‍ at Tea Time where it's more affordable for a reason. I think Tea Time is my highest-ranking affordable afternoon tea option, with the Palace as my highest-ranking option for those who can afford to drop $100+ on this type of thing. read more

I love Oolong and I've been drinking them for many years now, all varieties. So I was very excited about getting a high quality pot of oolong tea. I was very disappointment that I wasn't served what I ordered . Whatever they gave me in an unmarked tea pot wasn't the oolong I ordered. Lovely tea room with delicious food and great service. We came on a Monday in November, so it was super quiet, we had our choice of tables, and very attentive service. My friend and I ordered the Sandwiches, Scone and Tea. There are a multitude of tea options (not surprisingly) but the server made some great recommendations of freshly mixed blends, which we took him up on. Sandwiches were delicious and everything seemed freshly made and baked. I will say it was not cheap, but I really enjoyed the attention to details and fresh food. The tea room itself is cozy and quaint, but not over the top flowery and chintz (like some "English" tea rooms.) Attended my friend's baby shower/tea party. What a delightful Sunday Funday to reunite with all my friends in Palo Alto, and see everyone after the pandemic. I haven't been on this stretch of Ramona Street in several years. It looks so different with part of the street closed off and plenty of outdoor seating. Palo Alto is much warmer than SF; they can pull off parklets and outdoor dining. I enjoyed the scones and tea sandwiches. They explain the teas in detail beforehand, and label the tea pots. We all kind of preferred the mango, extremely aromatic. The staff were patient and friendly, even took some pictures for us to celebrate the special occasion, as the mom-to-be was glowing with happiness. I took my best friend Mae here for her birthday as one of the activities i had planned for her that day and from the moment we were seated to the moment we we left was just magical! DATE: 08/08/2022 Tea Time was one of the few tea rooms open on a Monday, thus our options were quite limited. I believe we called a day or two before to make the reservation. We were seated outside which was beautiful, however, it was quite windy which constantly flew away our napkins and some toppings on the food. When making the reservation call, I was not aware that we were supposed to let them know the food we wanted. Since it was not mentioned to us in the call, they would prepare us a variety of their choice. We did have a few allergy restrictions and they were very accommodating to it. Tip: When making the reservation, please prepare the list of food (sandwich, dessert etc) you'd like to have! The teas we chose are the Forest Green Tea and Mango/Guava tea (forgot the name but recommended by the waiter). The forest green tea was good but the mango/guava tasted similar to over-the-counter medicine (but not too bad). They did give us an option to look inside the restaurant to choose from hundreds of tea options, but we decided to just choose from the tea menu and recommendations given to us. We were excited to support a local small business, but our experience wasn't up to par to other teas we've had in the area. TLDR, food was good but the service was not worth. Booking - 2/5. I couldn't find a way to book online so I sent an email. They got back to us in a decent amount of time and called to take down my credit card information in the event of a no show (they'll charge full price). They also took down our dietary restrictions and told us we would get 5/6 sandwich varieties offered on the holiday menu with a group of 3 adults. We show up and they told us we booked as two children and one adult, with one holiday menu and two children menus. Definitely not what we discussed on the phone. We also ended up only getting three varieties of sandwiches. The communication over phone was clearly mishandled. Service - 1/5. We had to remind them several times to turn on the heaters outside, and even tried setting them up ourselves without much success since we were seated outside on a rather chilly day. It took them a little over 40 minutes after our reservation start time to get food on the table, which seems strange considering how they insisted we set the menu several days in advance. They never came to refill our teapots, and with all the waiting in the cold we certainly needed a refill about half way through. We ended up just walking inside to pay the bill rather than hope someone would remember to check in on us. Tea - 5/5. There was some unique blends and it was brewed well. No complaints there. Food - 3.5/5. Food was delicious, would have been an easy 5 if I hadn't found a small black hair in my sandwich. They replaced it quickly for me once I brought it to their attention, but unfortunately I found it after I took a large bite. Based on other reviews, this isn't the first time small black hairs were found here. There are major quality control/sanitary issues if this is an ongoing problem. The amount of food was appropriate. The tea sides (milk/sugar) were kind of sketchy-- The milk was chunky?! See the pictures. Teaware- 2/5. One of the joys of high tea is getting to sip from fancy tea cups. Two of the teacups at our table had obvious knicks in it, and the teapots were rather generic. The tea tower was cute though. Price- not worth it. Not at all. We spent $50+ per person and with all the mishaps and no tea refill it felt we did not get anywhere near our moneys worth. I'm so glad we found this little gem in the heart of Palo Alto downtown! My friends and I love gathering for a unique sit down tea experiences and this place delivered! They have a few different tea packages to choose from and we got the Queen's Tea since it included the most items. If you choose one of the packages that come with sandwiches you need to make a selection before you visit the tea shop for your appointment as the staff requires time to procure ingredients and prepare the sandwiches. We chose pesto brie (my favorite), cucumber cream cheese (classic), egg sandwich, apple fig and apple walnut. This package also came with a small cup of soup, along with desserts, clotted cream, cheese and fruit. Everything was so tasty :) A huge thanks to their wait staff as they were so professional, friendly and prompt when seating us. Special thanks to Tim who adjusted our menu last minute to accommodate a change in headcount. Catering works best for larger events because it reduces the proportion of the fixed costs (set up, etc.) relative to the tea and food provided. I hosted an event for around thirty residents. Service: Excellent; I called the day before and they were still able to arrange something for me the following day. They helped me set up and take down the event, and they were very friendly throughout the entire process. Tea: The tea was lovely. We had an herbal and green tea, which both had a lovely fruity undertone. I visited Tea Time while getting treatment at Stanford. I don't have a large appetite. High Tea is one of my favorite ways to relax and enjoy a nice cup of tea. I had High tea instead of The Queens Tea because I was worried I wouldn't be able to finish. High tea comes with a delicious English pie served with a simple salad of greens, assorted sandwiches, dessert/fruit, and your choice of tea. The atmosphere was very relaxing. The entire staff is knowledgeable about tea. They all have a welcoming and friendly attitude. I had such a lovely time I came back the next day for some lighter fare having a plate of scones and tea as well as a small plate of warm appetizers. English pie, egg, rolls, quiche, and scones are my favorite. The scones are so delicious. I wish I could take them home by the dozen. read more

Quick take: cute English Tea House We had a cousins get together here over the holidays. Advanced reservations are recommended. This place doesn't have that many tables. The service was great. They also accommodate vegetarian and vegan dietary needs. It was a fun experience. read more
