This is a really good pearl milk tea place! When I first walked in I saw a big sign with the top 10 drinks, but I'm not really a tea person and most of them seemed to include a lot of tea. So I decided to stick with a classic and order the pearl milk tea. The atmosphere and decorations are cute and casual, which make it a super relaxing place to just sit and drink boba. I don't usually get boba, but when I do, I tend to get Taro Milk Tea. If you love Taro Milk Tea as I do, you will definitely love their version! For my first time here, I got the basic pearl milk tea. I enjoyed the drink a lot, and the size of the regular cup is pretty large. They also don't skimp on the boba. I felt that the boba was a bit too soft and slightly smaller than what I am used to, but regardless, I liked the taste (and the boba was warm!!). This place is awesome! Stumbled upon this boba joint after dinner at gokaku. They close at 10pm today but it was poppin when we were there at 9:40 pm. I love their selection and the option of having less ice or sugar. Let's get straight to the point, there are two important things in boba drinks: boba and tea. Boba-- Q/ chewy. Not as sweet as honey boba but definitely well cooked Tea-- most boba joints have excessively sweet artificial flavors. The tea is here actually quite premium! I love the earl grey 3 Q which has boba, lychee jelly, and grass jelly at 80% sugar and less ice. The sweetness was just right. Taste aside, it makes me happy that the drink is much larger than most. Oh my ga. Boba heaven drinking this Earl Grey Milk Tea 3Q. The combination of the boba and 2 different flavored jellies really compliment the entire drink, a perfectly refreshing combination. Not only do you get the earl grey tea taste but you get the flavorful and freshness of the jellies added to it. I got 80% sweet which came out perfect for me. Quick and friendly service. I told the cashier that I was going to come back and try different items on the menu (such as the taro one, I'm ecstatic about them serving chunks of fresh taro in that drink), so she offered me a loyalty card. If you accumulate to 10 stamps then you'll get a free drink! I'm sure I'll rack it up considering I'm a student nearby and have a long break between two of my classes. I'll be back very soon. I only discovered TeaTop recently, but I can confidently say that it is hands-down one of my favorite tea places ever. If you need a frame of references my other favorites are gong cha and happy lemon! So far I've tried milk foam wintermelon and earl grey milk tea. If you like grass/ herb jelly you HAVE to try it here. The consistency is soft but not slimy and the flavor is fragrant and subtlety sweet. Wintermelon is very refreshing and great for those who like fruit drinks but hate over sweet, syrupy drinks. Earl grey is extremely fragrant and kinda reminds you of your small, asian grandparents' house: sweet, inviting, and herbal. ALSO, each drink is less than $4.50 and the cup is BIG. I got classic Boba Milk tea because that's how I judge any boba spot and friends got the 3Q and the Passion fruit tea and a Godiva Hotcoco because it was new and looked delicious. Personally, we found the 3Q to be extremely WERID. Tapioca balls-ok, grass jelly-ok, but lychee in a dairy based drink was just strange. The Passion fruit tea was good though. Godiva hotcoco= RIP OFF. Our cup was 70% full and the drink was close to $4. Get yourself a regular ol' boba for less money and more deliciousness. Business model wise, I think there's better. I went with 3 friends for a catch up session and we were on the hunt for a table. It was a windy, winter day and the door was WIDE open. Everyone was in their puffy jackets and yet I had to mention to ask to close the door for any staff to notice the temperature and clothing of their customers. Saving on heater money? On top of that, they do NOT announce numbers or names so if you are not standing and waiting for your drinks, you'll virtually never know it's ready. This has been one of my favorite tea places for a few years now! I came here ever since they opened a few years ago and I've been going basically every week since. The interior of the store is alright in my opinion. There are a decent amount of tables inside as well as outside seating! There are a lot of parking spaces because its in a plaza with a safeway and other stores as well. As for the drinks, I love getting the Passion Fruit Green Tea! I always get it without toppings as I just like the tea but the Medley is good too! If you get the Medley it comes with boba and coconut jelly. Another one of my favorites is the Earl Grey Milk Tea with boba! I've also tried the Signature Alpine Green Tea and that one is good as well. This place is a lesser version of Gong Cha, which is the tea shop I hold all non-cosmetic boba tea shops standard to. If you want boba tea that is of good quality tea, and don't care that there aren't a bunch of crazy flavor combinations and jellies you never thought existed, as well as a bunch of Instagram-approved snacks, then this is the place for you. I noticed that their grapefruit green tea seems to be unique to just this tea chain, so that's what I ordered for both me and my boyfriend, and added black pearls and litchi jelly. Now, I'm not aware of this being the case anywhere else, but I noticed on the receipt that the cashier had put in "coconut jelly" instead of "litchi jelly". I asked another employee about this, and he told me that they were the same thing?? The jelly ended up being tasteless, other than just being sweet, so ultimately it was false advertisement under either name. Seriously, just make up another name, like "clear jelly". Anyway, the tea was pretty good, but A) not unique enough to make me return regularly to try all of the drinks, and B) the quality of the tea is not at par with the others I visit strictly for taste. The top selling menu was on a big cardboard, with pictures of the drinks included which I thought was great. I always like to see pictures to help me choose. Since it was my first time, I decided to go on the safe route and get a jasmine milk tea with pearl. It was my first time at a boba place that asked me how sweet I wanted it, and how much ice. I love that! I asked for 30% sweet which I think was the lowest, and just a little ice. My order came out within a minute a two and it was gigantic! It was delicious and refreshing. Not known for being the fastest or most helpful service when it comes to explaining their menu. The staff is a little bit slower than your typical pearl tea establishment, and the younger staff do not seem to operate any urgency. Note there is only one size you can order -- Large. It's a meal sized drink so plan ahead. We ordered the Earl Grey Tea with 3Q (no where is there a written description of what 3Q is on a menu) and the Milk Foam Oolong Tea. The drinks took a measurable time to make, and the staff seemed unaffected by the fact that there was a growing crowd of people waiting for their drinks. The tea is decent but in this market and this area, you cannot get by with average tea and below par service. Establishments like Happy Lemon, TeaSpoon, etc have started to infiltrate the Bay Area, and showing up as a new player in the area requires effort to differentiate from the competition. TeaTop fails to deliver on the recipe that makes pearl tea establishments last. I suspect higher star reviews for this place are locals that live nearby rather than those coming from afar.
