    Tropical EnerTea

Today I tried their Tropical EnerTea and it was really good and refreshing. I got it medium sweet (standard) and it was just a smidge on the sweeter side, but I really liked it. I will return and get it again for sure.

    Menu and how to order?

I remember, years ago, when Gong Cha first opened up--not this Westgate location. It was all the rage. Then other boba shops opened up and they were all the rage and unless you're doing something quite unique or different, you'll be quickly forgotten. My oh my the day in the life of a boba shop. Gong Cha, in general, is no different. I feel like the Gong Cha brand has been relegated to those many other boba tea spots that's just "hum drum" and you know what to expect. While there are seasonal drinks made available to order, most all other drinks are nothing special. Just ordinary, standard drinks, which is fine. This particular Gong Cha is in a food court of Westgate Mall, which seems like it's emptying up and having trouble getting consumers and tenants. The food court is a bit outdated and nothing exciting to boast about. The chairs and tables are scattered about in a somewhat disorganized way and there are really only a handful of options. It looks like what you'd see from a 90's mall food court. But this isn't Gong Cha's problem. There are no people taking orders, just what seems like a bunch of high school kids making your drinks. Incredibly roudy and loud when I was there as they talked about the latest gossip and dancing about, but they did make the drinks rather quickly and efficiently. So not bad for high school kids! As for then drinks themselves, wayyyyy too sweet. My wife ordered a boba milk tea at 70% sweetness and it was just straight up sugar water. Didn't even taste the tea. I ordered a seasonal drink that doesn't come sweet and the jellies and things added to the drinks made the drink beyond too sweet--I finishable to me. While I do think the steroid-indification of sweetness pumped into our drinks (e.g. boba and fruit juices) is nothing new or uncommon in America, we really need to stop and I've yet find places that hone in and focus on the natural flavors and sweetness of fruits and other elements of a drink without the over adulteration of blitzing the drinks with sugar.

I still remember anticipating Gong cha's arrival to the Bay because it was sooo far before, and the closest one that opened near us was the one at Westgate Mall! But ofc now there's way more like at Eastridge mall, DTSJ, & Blossom hill. This review is pretty long overdue but here it is! Gong cha is my faavorite and #1 place to get wintermelon because it's just so good! It's also where I first tried Milk foam or any time of cream on top of my milk tea. Location: 4/5, Huge shopping center with lots of parking and many food shops & clothing stores. ~Drinks~ * Milk foam wintermelon drink: 5/5, Creamy and the perfect amount of sweetness and slight saltiness from the milk foam. * Boba milk tea: 4/5, Perfect balance of sweetness, milk and tea! Boba was also cooked very well. * Iced wintermelon drink: 5/5, My top favorite drink, super refreshing! :)

They released a new snack called mochi waffles, and the picture of it looks really nice, however I think the guy who made it just don't know how to do the job at all. And the way he made it make these waffles looks not good anymore. Just don't buy these waffles. For $6.5, I can go to Trader Joe's to buy almost 2 bags of Ube mochi waffle mix.

This location is not consistent! They don't read the instructions and the selections. I ordered an early grey milk tea 50% sweet and 100% ice. My god this drink is sweet it's like a gallon of sugar is in it. Threw it away. Also not helpful they don't answer the phones so I cannot alert anyone of the mistakes.

Caught up with one of my girlfriends here for some boba! It's located inside the Westgate Mall on Saratoga Avenue. If you park between J. Crew Factory and Nike, and enter through the Westgate sign the GongCha will be right there. I must say that this mall is really dead. Nothing going on and a lot of the shops are closed. I'm guessing due to covid but I'm not sure. There's tables inside so we sat there. We felt pretty safe since there weren't much people to begin with. I haven't been to Gong Cha before and the first thing I noticed is that they have such a huge variety of drinks! We didn't know what to get! It took us super long to finally decide what we wanted. I guess it was a strawberry type of day because we both got something strawberry flavored. I love how you can add creme brulee foam(?) to almost every drink! It was really sweet though from what I remembered but I still enjoyed it. I had a good experience but it didn't really blow me away or anything. My drink was good but nothing life changing. I just haven't found the right drink yet. Hopefully I can find something I love in the future!

Great tea and boba where the tea tastes higher quality than normal, the website says they brew fresh tea every 4 hours. I love being able to control how sweet it is and how much ice they add. I like the classic milk tea and also their foamed drinks, very refreshing on a warm day. The mall location does get busy during peak times so come at different times if you don't want to wait. From Taiwan, worth supporting since the quality stands a big higher than the normal boba places

Tbh not the best boba I've ever had. Both drinks had some sort of aftertaste which wasn't pleasant. Upon arriving my friend and I were directed towards the machine to place our order. Immediately after the staff took orders directly from people. Over all not a pleasant experience.

Ambience: The shop is not tidy and has a lot of random objects/decorations around; for instance, Christmas decorations and posters that are peeling off. There are also signs that are leaned against the wall in customer areas, like it is an extension of their store storage space. The lack of tidiness & cleanliness made me apprehensive to touch anything and it is certainly not welcoming. I don't even want to imagine how their kitchen area is upkept if they can barely manage their public space. Drinks: My partner and I ordered the white peach boba milk tea and the tiger milk tea. It's really nothing special and it befuddles me that there is high praise for the quality of their drinks. The tea flavour is not strong, nor is the boba made with quality in mind as it was hard in the center. I'm under the assumption that their fruit teas are front-loaded with artificial syrups since that's what the white peach resembled. Price: To compromise quality, the price point is the selling factor. Boba priced around $5-$7 is a rarity these days, but this shop does it. Just know that you're paying for lesser quality in your order. Customer Service: Wow, that needs work. The other review was not kidding about their employees and how they communicate. Customer interactions can heavily change the view of the store and will make/break the experience. With this already broken experience being topped by their employee "communication," I'm surprised they have returning customers. There are a plethora of better boba shops in the same area. I reckon you opt for those if you value strong tea flavour, better customer service, and---most importantly---a store that values cleanliness.

But let's be honest--emotional support sitting loses stamina after hour 3+. So after some coffee and laptop work time, I wandered back and thought, "Wifey deserves a post-salon treat." Enter: Lilikoi Boba First Impressions (10/10) You can't miss this spot--nestled in a clean, retail-friendly plaza with plenty of free parking and even tree shade if you time it right. A small win, but a mighty one when you're pacing for hours outside a hair salon. It's also steps away from groceries, shopping, and the aforementioned Hair Olympics next door. Inside & Service (10/10) Super spacious interior with actual comfortable seating (I'm looking at you, rocking chair of dreams--yes, I posted a photo). But the real highlight? Diane, the owner. She's warm, patient, and takes your order like she's designing your custom skincare routine. They even speak Mandarin (他们也可以说普通话). Quick facts I picked up from her: * Boba is U.S. sourced * Matcha is imported from Japan * Non-dairy options don't cost an arm and a leg All this... and my drink was under $7 with toppings. (Insane.) If you have kids, that rocking chair is a tactical waiting zone. Trust me--your toddler will be entertained just long enough for you to order drinks for your whole family. Good luck with that btw Drinks (15/10) I got the Green Matcha Latte with Honey Boba and Almost Milk. Here's the kicker: You can taste the difference. No chalky, premixed powders. This was slow-brewed, earthy, and smooth, with boba that actually had bounce and flavor. At this price point? I was expecting okay. I got "Where has this been all my life?" TLDR: If you're tired of paying $2+ for subpar add-ons, want premium ingredients without the price tag, and value owners who actually care about sourcing and custom preferences--this is your spot. Diane and her husband put love into what they do. That kind of business? Deserves support and a return trip.

I attended such an event this past Sunday, and expected a long line, especially in hundred degree weather where people would be aching for a cold dessert or beverage. But the service was unreasonably slow, especially since, besides boba, they were serving a lot of pre-packaged items, labeled as ice cream "on a stick" or "in a cone". I wondered why I couldn't get it in a cup, till I got to the front and found that the plain chocolate flavor on a stick was simply Haagen Dazs in a wrapper, you know the kind you get from an ice cream truck or gas station or from the grocery store. Still, it was cold, creamy, and satisfying as the heat wave kept it toasty outside during the Mosaic Festival, it was just what I needed to cool me off and keep me all smiles. The setting at O'Brien's has old school charm for an ice cream parlor, but PennyLane on its own as a vendor doesn't quite compare.
