The Fresh Milk Trifecta is the worst combination, the red bean was way too sweet, the tapioca was a little bit sweet, and the grass jelly has no taste, it didn't taste right mixed together. The Taro Milk Tea w/Sago had the perfect amount of sweetness, but with very little taro chunks. Same thing with the Pearl Milk Tea with Red Bean, the tea taste was good but the red bean was too sweet. :( read more

I love Tea Top! Located right next door to Dr. Nazaar's dental office. I can't help but stop by after my appointments each time. I've never had a bad drink here and especially in love with the Boba Milk Tea with Red Bean. If you do order this drink, you could probably go for zero sugar since the red bean is already sweetened. The service is always on par, super friendly and quick! The ambiance is pretty quiet and clean as well. They do have WiFi and a couple tables, in case you want to get a little work done. Pretty good boba place, staple for those who go to the schools around here to hang out after school. I've come here many times over the years, and only haven't been coming here recently since I no longer visit this plaza that often. However, it is reliable for good, authentic, and traditional tea drinks. You can get there drinks quite sweet (you can actually go up to 120% sweet!), but I often find that to be unnecessary. I recently came here again and got the Darjeeling Milk Tea with boba. The milk tea was nice and creamy, and was edging on the sweeter side even with 80% sweet. The boba was a little bit on the chewier and firmer side, though it was also noticeably smaller than other places. The place wasn't as busy as I remember it to be, and maybe that's a consequence of so many other boba places opening up in the past few years, or maybe it's only filled up afterschool. It isn't as great of a place to hang out since they only have drinks, no food or anything, and I don't think there's any outlets. But it's a pretty good and reliable place to go if you want to just sit and chat for a bit or get a nice drink when you're in the area! read more

What's pretty cool about Tea Top is they usually have one size and it's a large. Well.. that's if you get your drink cold. I decided to get a hot drink for the rainy day. For $5.25, I got a medium sized hot Taro sago drink. I was disappointed by not only the price but the size as well. On top of that, when I received the drink the sago was clumped together ?? It's literally not supposed be like this. I would've liked a heads up from the worker so that I could break it up on my own but oh well. I also wished that there was taro chunks with the drink but it did not come with any. I'd say the only thing that was good about this drink was how you do not have to adjust the sweetness. This place is one of my favorite boba places in the Bay Area. It's not as well known as other chains, but their tea quality is super good for the price (also, you get a huge drink.) You see a lot of older folks coming to this location too so their stuff must be authentic! I've been told this place originally has locations in Taiwan. 1. Signature Alpine Green Tea with Aiyu Jelly 4.5/5 I really enjoyed the green tea flavor of this drink. According to their bestsellers list, people get it with aiyu jelly. I would've preferred the drink without the jelly though. 2. Signature Alpine Green Milk Tea with Boba 5/5 I enjoyed the milk tea version more than the green tea on its own. The boba quality here is pretty good too. I haven't had this type of milk tea at any other boba shops. 3. Taro Milk Tea with Sago 5/5 I'm usually not a fan of taro boba but this one is pretty fresh-tasting. Also, this one is a milk tea (instead of the taro milk lattes that are common at other places) 4. Sun Moon Lake Milk Tea 5/5 Apparently sun moon lake is a famous type of tea from Taiwan. It does taste more unique than typical black teas at other boba shops. I think I prefer the signature alpine green milk tea over this one though (personal preference of green teas over black teas.) 5. Passion Fruit Medley 4.5/5 I liked having all the boba and jelly textures in this drink. The passion fruit tea was also nicely flavored. I still preferred the other milk teas over this one. 6. Lemon Green Tea with Crushed Ice and Aiyu Jelly 2.5/5 This drink was way too sour for me. I also got this 50% sweet so maybe that was why. 11/13/20- I didn't know it was possible for me to think a one-size boba drink was too large (like...I might explode?). Tea Top served such a pleasantly delicious drink with great value and service. -Fresh Milk with Brown Sugar & Pearls- (+) Opted for a non-caffeinated drink since it was after dinner time. I was worried that a fresh milk drink would be too heavy but I was surprised by the lightness and taste. The milk blended nicely with the brown sugar (I shook my drink on the right before I took a photo so the brown sugar "stripes" were gone). It had the perfect sweetness at 50%- not nauseating. I was also very impressed by the size of the drink as well as the amount of boba. It may not look like it from the photo but it was quite a big, heavy portion (one size) and the boba amount was about 1/3 of the whole cup (I imagine because they were closing soon and wanted to give away more)! (-) Avoid if you are lactose intolerant. I don't think you will survive all the milk...so don't try (LOL)! -Price/value- This drink was $5.45 and was much larger in size than similarly priced drinks at other boba locations. Awesome value! -Store ambience and experience- EXCEPTIONALLY FAST SERVICE! After I removed my credit card, my drink was ready for me after literally 10 seconds. I don't drink boba very much anymore, but when I'm craving a milky drink, teatop is one of my favorite places to go. There's always lots of parking since it's a big lot with other stores/businesses. Favorite item that I will get til the day I die: Fresh milk with brown sugar and pearls. Yes it is the worst possible thing for those with lactose intolerance (me). But I feel like the fact that I order it every time just shows how worth it is. Also not only is the boba here good, they give you a good amount for a decent price, unlike a lot of boba places these days (boba inflation is criminal). Another honorable mention is the Sun Moon Lake milk tea. Definitely wasn't sure if I liked it the first time I tried it, but it grew on me with how refreshing it tasted despite being a milk tea. When we order this one we always get the feng guo topping (we also have no idea what that is). We tried it one day when we felt adventurous and haven't looked back. It doesn't have much of a flavor, but the texture works really well. It's like a cross between the mochi topping and boba: ambiguous shape (not round but not just one big blob), has chew (but not as soft as mochi topping). 10/10 Love this place and once I restock on my lactaids I'll be back! read more

This is my personal choice as an alternative to boba if I'm looking for something more like jelly in texture (vs chewy like boba) in my drink! The service here is always quick, and the cafe is also located in a plaza with a ton of parking spots (though may be busier now with the opening of Dynasty in the same plaza - I would recommend trying to avoid dim sum hours if you don't want to have to search for a parking spot!). Currently one of my favorite boba spots. The parking lot can fill up since Tea Top is in a plaza with several other shops and stores. However, it usually isn't a problem if you circle a bit or are okay with parking farther. They are quick about taking orders, but really friendly at the same time. They have a lot of different drinks on their menu so you're sure to find something you like. My two favorites from here include their signature alpine green tea and their taro milk tea with sago. The alpine green tea is really refreshing and at 50% sweetness, it's not all that sweet. I enjoy that it's not like your traditional matcha green tea; it has it's own flavor profile. The taro milk tea is made with real taro so nothing artificial here. You cannot adjust the sweetness, but the drink itself is not overly sweet anyways. The taro root gives it natural sweetness, it's creamy, and the sago is cooked well - not too mushy and not hard. I've also tried their sun moon lake milk tea and their darjaleeng milk tea. Both are very unique spin offs on black milk tea and have unique flavor profiles. It's always nice trying something completely new. out of all the boba places i've tried in the past decade, tea top is definitely one of my favorites. their drinks have a strong tea flavor, good boba consistency, and a good balance of creaminess/milk. i used to always get the oolong or jasmine milk tea which have a great roasted or floral flavor, but my all time favorite tea from tea top is the signature alpine green milk tea--literally the best tea flavor i have EVER tried before. i've never had anything like it at any other boba place. it's a green milk tea with a slightly different taste--my brother says it tastes like the sweet version of the green tea they serve you at chinese restaurants. idk if i'm crazy but i always feel like it tastes a bit like cookie butter/gingerbread lol. i always get less ice and 30% sugar. i got 50% today and it was too sweet for me. however, you could still taste the tea and creaminess. also, this location i swear has the quickest service i've ever been too..the baristas make the drinks at lightning speed and i swear my drink is always ready 30 seconds after i complete my order. prices at teatop have been rising over the past couple of years (i still remember when a drink used to be $4 here and now with boba they come out to a little over $6). however, drinks are a large and are served with a generous amount of boba...so i keep coming back (just a little less frequently so i don't hurt my wallet too much). they also have stamp cards so you can get a free drink after 10 drinks. would 100% recommend though if you're in the area! read more

My only con is that the lid was one of the kinds that seals on the cup. When I get a milk foam tea I like to be able to sip out of the top. So I had to tear a corner so I could sip it and then poke a hole for the straw for the Boba. Not a huge inconvenience but just something I wasn't a fan of. 4.5 STARS You walk into an empty bar and to the counter to order. The bartender is chatting with this friend at the corner of the bar, looks at you, and goes back to chatting with his friend. You patiently wait for him. One minute goes by.... Another minute goes by.... And, another minute goes by.......... He finally comes over to ask what you want. "A shot of fernet please!" He goes to pour you a shot but his friend asks him to put on the game. The bartender puts down the bottle to fumble with the remote... $#%&*@!!! At this point, you want nothing more than to grab this hipster bartender by the beard and drop kick his arse in his skinny jeans then pour your own shot - am I right?! Ok, maybe that's just me because I failed my anger management class. But, real talk...my pet peeve is people who have zero sense of urgency. Usually, I only review new boba shops but I was so impressed with TeaTop (Taiwanese Tea Franchise) that I had to drop them a review. TL;DR: Cheap (all under $4.25), tasty drinks with lighting fast, friendly service! I found TeaTop on Yelp because they were the nearest boba shop to TP Tea which always has a hella long line. Ain't nobody got time to wait an hour for boba so I've been coming to TeaTop as plan b. The cashier is upbeat and super friendly, and the owner seems to always be onsite to make sure they're running like a well oiled machine. On my first visit, the line was out the door BUT I was in/out in less than 8 minutes!!!! Super impressive that the staff works with such diligent efficiency. Usually, my go-to for milk tea or crema topped tea is Oolong Tea but the Oolong here has weak tea flavor. I've found that their Signature Sun Moon Lake (Black Tea) has the best tea flavor so that's what I've been getting with milk foam which is like airy, milky whipped cream topping. Their 50% sweet is too sweet for me though so I'll try 25% sweet next time. They also sell Tea Eggs (2 for $2.99) which seem to be harder to find these days (Ten Ren stopped selling them) and they're fantastic. The tea soy flavor penetrates all the way into the egg yolks for a delicious savoryness. They also have dog-friendly seating outside which is an extra plus! Overall, not the best drinks but I hate lines so TeaTop will continue to be my plan b when in the South Bay! Lightning-fast service, generous portions of boba, and perfect sweetness levels! We arrived on a Friday night, parked right in front of Tea Top (it's in a big plaza with plenty of parking). We walked up to the clean, bright and well-lit store, and ordered. I'm looking at my Apple Pay transaction time right now, and I paid at 7:25 PM, and got my boba seconds later - my picture is time stamped at 7:26 PM. The speed of service here is no joke. My family lives in Taiwan and they're spoiled by fast service there, but it seems to be a rarity here, so Tea Top's efficiency was a pleasant surprise! Since we were getting our drinks in the evening, both my friend and I opted for the non-caffeinated, fresh milk w/brown sugar and pearls with 1/2 sweetness (no tea in this drink). The size of this drink is HUGE and the amount of boba inside seems endless. The brown sugar syrup wasn't too sweet at all and blended perfectly with the milk, and the boba was soft with a nice bounce, even an hour later. (I'm still drinking it an hour later). It's hard to find this balance of quality, quantity, and value in the Bay Area and I almost want to keep this a secret... but Tea Top deserves many more customers than they seemed to be getting on a Friday night!!! If you are a taro fan, you definitely should try its taro milk tea because it use real taro rather than taro powder. The boba quality is good, chewy and has good balance of sweetness. Also its passion fruit green tea with boba and lychee jelly is good too. It also has all kind of slushy, such as passion fruit, grapefruit, green bean, taro, mango, and red bean. I personally recommend its green bean slushy, it has great green bean taste that accompany with the perfect amount of milk taste to it. It also has hot grass jelly and you can pick 2 toppings. The hot grass jelly is just average, the hot grass jelly is a little too dense and topping are just average. So hot grass jelly quickly solidified soon it is not that hot. I really love this place. I usually don't really drink a lot of milk tea so I always look for authentic Taiwanese drink places with options. My go to order is the Grapefruit Green Tea with Crushed Ice and now is a great time to get that drink because winter = citrus season! You can also request to get double honey, which will certainly change the flavor dramatically. Some days I like that sweet, syrupy flavor while other times I just go with the regular and taste more of the grapefruit. I've also tried the cousin, which is the Green Tea with Lemon and crushed ice. Highly recommend that one too, although the lemon is more of a sharper flavor. Other drinks to get? Check out their top 10 drinks. Any of those are usually good. On the rare occassion I don't want tea, I'll get the milk mixed with red beans, grass jelly, and other goodies. There are so many different varieties of tea and they clearly label which ones have milk/caffeinated/etc. I wouldn't say they're at all pretty or aesthetic, but you definitely get value here.
