Such a disappointing visit to Te'amo Boba Bar on a Sunday afternoon. The experience didn't live up to the high Yelp! average, both for the ordering process and the teas. We ordered at a kiosk, and it was frustrating for a few reasons. First, not every drink that appeared on the paper menu on the window was in the system and vice versa. Second, the ability to customize varies from item to item. For example, I couldn't choose the type of milk for my Hong Kong milk tea, but my husband could for his black tea latte. It didn't make sense to us. Second, our teas were just okay. Generally the flavors were good, so I think the tea itself is good quality - but my milk tea tasted weak and watered down, definitely not like the ones I loved when I was in Hong Kong. We were also hungry, but they were cleared out of most food (esp the mochi donuts advertised on their sign, which we would have loved to have!). On the plus side, our drinks came out in a pretty good amount of time, and the sizes of the drinks were bigger than we expected. But overall it was a frustrating and disappointing visit. We'll be looking for another place the next time we want milk teas or tea lattes. read more

My friend and I were shopping on Michigan Ave last weekend when we saw Te'amo's menu posted on a storefront. We were automatically drawn to all the cool drinks pictured! Te'amo is located in a food court. We went on Easter Sunday, so the mall was closed and we didn't experience ordering at the storefront. We ordered ahead online and our drinks came out in under 10 minutes. I got the Te'amo O2, which is one of their specialty lemonades. It was super refreshing. The bottom layer had a sweet, syrupy taste, while the top layer was sourer and also sparking. My friend got one of their milk teas which I took a sip of. I was pleasantly surprised that it tasted strongly of black tea, rather than a more overwhelmingly sweet, artificial taste like some other boba that I've had. Don't get me wrong, Boba in a well-established Chinese restaurant makes TONS of sense and businesses wise a solid addition but the bubble-gum pink color scheme and child-like handwritten signage just doesn't fit the space. There is a good selection of tea flavors here (actually brewed, not some mix B.S.) and you can customize the ice and sweetness level of your tea, which I am a big fan of. Lots of mix-in options as well, but I'm a purist so I usually go with regular boba. FWIW I had a large Jasmine milk tea, less ice, 50% sweetness, with regular boba and I was quite pleased. CHI have three Kung Fu Tea locations which are iffy, and the Taipei Cafe is very good and authentic - but the majority in this region are Americanized and fake and substandard. That is not the case at this downtown Loop high-rise Mall food court Boba bar. It's wonderful. Te'Amo is not fake at all and it's excellent. Clever name too. The only problem is it is on the fifth floor (or so) of a high-rise mall, for which parking is impossible or expensive or both, and they're charging almost twice as much as any boba shop should for a boba - which is probably because their rent is so damn high. So once you get all the way up here you're going to pay $7 or some crazy crap for your drink. But I'll tell you what. It's a very good drink. I actually want to give it 4 stars because of the crazy price - and it's not the best I've ever had, but possibly Chicago's best, orI may like Taipei Cafe slightly better - but considering that Chicago just has so little in the way of bubble tea I honestly have to get this place at five stars despite the insane price. After seeing the picture being printed on the cream cheese, I know I had to come here! My cousins and I came here after walking around the North Bridge shops. It's located in the corner of the mall (entrance is outside) at Lao Sze Chaun. There's signs that tell you where to go, and it's at the bar by the entrance. The menu looks pretty good, and for the holidays they were offering free White Mustaches if you followed them on any of their social media accounts. I ordered a regular-sized Mango Milk tea with tapioca and a white mustache. You get to choose your sweetness level (75%), ice amount (less than half), and how much tapioca you want (standard, no extra). Most boba places in Chicago don't have these options so I really appreciate it! The technology for the White Mustache is also really cool. You open up a webpage, scan a QR code, and upload the picture you want. I've been a fan of cream cheese on top of milk tea for years (Happy Lemon in the PI, tyvm) so I'm glad to have it in Chicago finally. My drink came out to about $5 since the mustache was free (usually $1 extra). It was refreshing and good. Not too sweet and makes a difference without all that extra ice. This is one of the FEW or even the ONLY boba shop in downtown Chicago. Other places nearby that serve boba are restaurants. You can find Te amo on the 4th floor of the mall. We ordered the Jasmine milk tea and the volcano milk tea, both with 100% sweetness level and sadly, my JMT was not sweeten at all. Also, the tea was not fragrant and it was just a mediocre drink. I went back to ask to get sweetener and the worker gave me a tiny cup of sweetener. He asked if I wanted more to just let him know. But I didn't want to trouble him anymore since they were pretty busy. Overall, the sweetener didn't really improve the drink. As for the volcano tea, it was decent- needed more sugar. Unfortunately, I think Te amo needs to improve their drinks by starting off with getting the order right and brewing the tea leaves for a little longer.
