I got the Taro Lover ($4.50) with boba (+0.50). I was drawn to it because they add fresh taro chunks. Unfortunately, they do not allow you to adjust the sweetness, which was a bit of problem for me. The milk was rich and creamy and while I did enjoy it I could not finish it due to its overly sugary taste. I also wish there was more fresh taro chunks, but the ones I did have tasted really good! The boba had a nice honey flavor and chewy texture. I would come back to try a different flavor- one where I can adjust the sweetness since I've heard you can adjust it in some of the others. read more

Why oh why is there not a Teaspoon closer to me? Patiently waiting for the Irvine location to open up (seriously, open up already). I was up in the Bay area recently and finally had my chance to try this place. The hotel I was at was only a mile away from this SF location (fate wanted me to go here). I would definitely recommend the Dirty Ube (basically coffee, milk and ube). Ok, so a few places make versions of this but Teaspoon's is the best in my opinion. The ube is infused with coconut, mixed with coffee and fresh milk (I opted to sub in oat milk). I know there's one in Del Amo too but I rarely am out in South Bay (LA) and don't want to drive an hour just for boba. I may just have to now to get my Dirty Ube fix! read more

Teaspoon is probably one of my recent favorites for boba. I had heard about it a lot through friends but recently when I got my hair done nearby, I decided to try it for the first time. The menu is pretty compact but they have quite a few selections that are tasty! My personal favorites are the grasshopper, lady bug and oolong milk tea. All pack a flavor punch and are delicious! The lady bug is green tea with passion fruit and it's a bit on the tart side but its nicely balanced. You can clearly taste the tea and the passion fruit, one does not overwhelm the other. The grasshopper is surprisingly refreshing with the cucumber juice. You would think it would taste gross but it's actually not bad at all. The oolong milk tea is amazing. It has a very prominent oolong taste where you can enjoy the flavor but it's not overly steeped. It's the right amount of creamy and sweet. Definitely my favorite if you are more into milk tea and not feeling a fruity drink. Overall, not bad but the locations is a bit far and parking is difficult. I would still visit here when I'm in the area but I wouldn't make a visit here if I'm not nearby. read more

I came here on a Saturday afternoon and had to wait in line for about 10 minutes. The place itself isn't very large - it has very limited seating and I didn't see any board games or anything of that sort so I'm not sure it's really a place you could chill at with a large group. I only came here with one other person so it wasn't a problem for me, but it's something to consider if you're trying to go here with a number of friends. I had ordered a thai milk tea with lychee jelly. I asked if the thai milk tea came with boba and the cashier said it did, so I asked her if she could substitute the boba with lychee jelly and she did, but she failed to mention she was still charging me for the "additional" topping. My drink came out to $5.25 which isn't outrageously more than typical boba places and the size of this drink is pretty tall so the price was alright. (But I do know other boba places that I could go to that is consistently satisfactory for a cheaper price, so emphasis on the price only being alright) Taste-wise, this drink was nothing special. Thai tea is one of the easier drinks to make at home, so I wasn't awed when I tried it and it tasted no better than my home-made thai milk tea. I do give Teaspoon props though for the presentation (refer to my picture!). Overall, I had a very typical milk tea experience at this location. There really wasn't anything special about this boba place and I'm not sure if I'd particularly go back to this specific boba place for a boba craving. read more

AMAZING! My cousins and I made a trip up to San Francisco to visit our cousin who is going to graduate school up there. Naturally, we wanted to find THE BEST BOBA PLACE in San Francisco and we stumbled upon this gem. During the pandemic, they are practicing safe social distancing and other precautions. Liquid Gold with honey boba // boba is sweet and chewy, I got this with the classic milk tea option at 100% sweetness, and it was a little too sweet for me who usually gets 100% sweetness for milk teas. This is my go-to drink Grapefruit Garden with mango stars // comments from my friend: the drink was dominated by the bitter and tart grapefruit juice, she can barely taste the tea. Fans of grapefruit juice will love this. 100% sweetness tasted barely sweet enough to her. Usually stick with my Jasmine milk tea at boba places, but was intrigued by the name of this one drink. Ordered the "Liquid Gold". It's honey oolong with cream; i got mine w grass jelly. I've always been hesitant with oolong bc it can be a bit strong and bitter, but this drink was like crack. The tea was so fragrant, smooth and velvety (i know, weird way to describe tea but that's how it felt). I think Teaspoon runs on the sweeter side. I usually don't like my drinks too sweet but every tea place's sweetness levels are different so i started out with 50% sugar. Could confidently bump down to 25% next time, especially if adding toppings. read more

As always, I went from being super exhausted to LIT AF from this drink and I'm not even half way done. Whenever I head up to go gym at Crunch, I would occasionally come here from time to time for a boba run. Teaspoon doesn't necessarily have the best drinks in my opinion, but it's definitely a pretty good spot if you want some quality tea drinks. The store inside is pretty small; kind of like a small hallway kind of space. When I went, I got their Roasted Tea Crema and their Strawberry Sangria. The Roasted Tea Crema (4.5/5 stars) was definitely pretty good! It possessed that strong nutty tea flavor that I love and you can definitely taste it in their drink. And essentially, they brew their teas with an espresso machine, so you'll know you're getting the real deal and not anything artificial. This and their Liquid Gold drinks are my personal favorites!! Now for the special seasonal spring drink: The Strawberry Sangria (3/5 stars). Honestly, I wasn't that impressed at all. I was expecting the whole drink to have a strawberry taste to it, but the only distinctive "strawberry-ness" to it was the small layer of sweetened berries on the bottom of the cup. The rest of the drink is just sweetened black tea. I'm not gonna lie though, the strawberry on the bottom makes the drink taste really really good! But once the fruit is devoured, you're basically left with the sweet tea only. Overall, this place is definitely a good drinks shop, and I'd definitely recommend exploring their menu and the drinks they have to offer! It can fit maybe 10 people. They had some sample of their oolong tea. I tried some as I was looking at the menu. Wow, it was so refreshing. I knew my drink was going to taste refreshing. Liquid Gold: Honey Oolong tea with cream. I didn't adjust the sweetness of the drink and I'm glad I didn't. It wasn't too sweet at all. You can really taste the honey in this drink. It was perfect. Roasted Tea Crema: Dark roasted Oolong tea with organic cream. This drink is a little bit stronger in Oolong taste compared to the Liquid Gold. I would take this option if you like your tea flavor strong. Tea quality is pretty legit at this place. They also serve snow ice! read more

One of my new favorite boba places! I've come here at least three times in the past two weeks but I've only tried their liquid gold, taro and house milk tea. I've gotten 50% sweet for all of them and I really like how their cups are tall and slim instead of the typical short and wide. What I really like about teaspoon is their selection of teas and boba. They're boba is a really good consistency and their house roaster taro is super yummy. I also feel like their taro boba is one of the best I've had so far. I have never been inside Teaspoon, but I've made two orders via Postmates and enjoyed my drinks both times! I have ordered the grasshopper with crystal boba and yogurt popping boba since I never had these two toppings before and it turned out to be super tasty and refreshing! The second time, I ordered the virgin mojito in mango flavor with lychee jelly and strawberry popping boba and it was so very tasty and refreshing as well. I finished my drinks very quickly and found myself slurping for more! My coworkers however, did not enjoy their orders. My coworkers got the regular milk tea, taro lover and the Thai milk tea. They thought the regular milk tea was nothing special and just "OK" and the Thai tea was a bit watered down. They also said that the taro was a bit too sweet. Not sure if we can adjust the sweetness in store but we weren't able to via postmates. I wish teaspoon was closer to home/work, I would love to try more of their drinks! Teaspoon is another spot that I frequently come across during my night job. Is it the most amazing milk tea place in town? Most certainly not, but it does provide just enough to satisfy a fix if I'm unable to make it to the Richmond or Sunset before the popular spots close for the evening. First off, as expected in this high rent district, prices are a good $0.50 to $1 higher than at other shops around town. Don't expect to walk out the door paying anything south of $4.50 for the bare bones basics. Teaspoon is also less Taiwanese/Asian than most competitors, with no Chinese writing of any sort to be found. Due to this, the atmosphere feels more like a frozen yogurt joint than a traditional boba café, and you certainly won't hear the latest Cantopop or Mandopop jams blaring over the stereo. The employees are still all Asian American, however. The menu is very condensed, and there is more of an emphasis on fruity drinks over milk tea. As a matter of fact, the only thing that really suits my palate here is the "house milk tea." No jasmine green milk tea is listed, but perhaps the bobaristas can prepare a special version if you ask kindly. I have not tried this myself though. Also, there doesn't seem to be any honey available, so you are not able to use that as a sweetener instead of sugar. So, how do I like the house milk tea? To be perfectly honest, it is just so-so. It has that watered down liquid fortune cookie taste that I am not a huge fan of. If this visual sounds appealing to you, Teaspoon is your spot. It's not my most favoritest in the whole wide world, but it will do when no other options are available. They have a variety of specialty drinks that you can choose from, but I'm sure you can also pick your own base and toppings like any regular bubble tea place. To the right of the menu, you'll also see a bunch of snow ice combos - as a taiwanese, I had to try one! I chose the liquid gold specialty drink and the snow ice with the Thai iced tea flavor (can't remember what they called it). My bubble tea was really good, you can really taste the tea flavor (and that real subtle sweet bitterness that comes with it). Tapioca were also the right amount of sweet and chewiness :). Parking can be tricky in these parts, but Teaspoon is a solid boba spot. I like the size of the cups and the diverse selection of drinks and snow. I tried the grasshopper and the rooibos tea (iced) with no milk and boba and coconut jelly. The rooibos drink was good and I would order it again, but the shining star is the grasshopper.
