I spoke with 4 companies about having HVAC installed. I'd say that Tech Pro was likely the second most competent (at least in quote phase), while also having the same price (about) as 3 of the 4 companies. The most competent (IMHO) company was literally double TechPro's quote and I had some large concerns with them, so I didn't use them and instead used Tech Pro. Tech Pro seems to be run by Armen. Armen is sales rather than worker. He has various crews that do all the work. The biggest negative I'll give to Armen himself is how imprecise he is. He didn't do manual J calculations to size the heating and cooling. Did not do manual D calculations for ductwork. This really drove me crazy. This is such a massive red flag and I was stupid to ignore it. I found that I had to babysit his crews as they would cut corners constantly if I wasn't yelling at them. A lot of them were also completely clueless. It's a problem when the homeowner knows more about HVAC than the crew installing the HVAC system. There was one time where I had to tell them three times not to do something and they only gave up on it when I escalated to Armen. Really, really bad experience. It meant I missed a lot of work, and was incredibly stressed out about the whole process. They made various silly mistakes. Punched some holes in walls that didn't need holes to be made. Miswired the heating (wired it as one stage instead of as two stage, I caught that). Miswired the condensate pump (wire was simply not attached - which meant that I ended up with a few liters of water dumped in my crawl space before I noticed). Did not install condenstate neutralizer. Made holes in plenum that I told them not to make, that they then patched (poorly) when they realized I was right. With all the negatives listed above, the one strong positive I'll give is that Armen really, really wants the customer to be happy. When I would point out problems he would always fix them. I do think he is fairly honest, too. I think his primary goal is to keep customers happy, and that is reflected in his very postive Yelp reviews. At the end of the day I have a functional, but FAR from perfect, HVAC system that is able to heat and cool my house. But it could have been a lot better - it is unbalanced, loud, and was very stressful for me to have installed. read more

Techpro installed a ductless mini split in our little 1000 sq ft house with 3 air handlers at the end of last february. from estimate to install to rebates, to a requested follow up by me they did a great job. the install took a bit longer than i expected, but they kept my old system on line as long as they could so the house wouldn't be toooo cold during the install which i imagine made the install more difficult, and stayed a little late on a friday to get everything running just in time for a nice cold storm to roll in. they also opted to take the hard way with the line sets running under the house rather than in the attic which i know made the install very difficult(my crawl space is more of a "slither" space, it really is a challenge to work in - like i had a couple brace and bolt contractors refuse to even go in it once they saw it hahaha - the tech pro guy didn't even flinch). i did a full crawl(slither) under the house after and all lines were properly secured and i was impressed by how clean it was done throughout(i've only one other time had a contractor do such a clean job under the house because of how cramped it is). the installers were friendly and professional the week they were around, and pleasant to be around. it's nice to finally have heat for the whole house instead of just one side of it which was our prior situation, and the system is working well so far though it's less than a year old so we'll see. we don't really use the a/c part of it much but it's nice to have i guess. it's kinda cool the system really only runs at about 5 amps or less, so it's pretty efficient. read more

I used Techpro Builders last year to install a heat pump for the upstairs level of our home mainly to gain the A/C aspect of it though we found we used the heating as well. Armen was very informative prior to the project getting started and they took care of all the rebates and incentives that were available at the time. The work was done quickly, efficiently, cleanly and the crew, Angel and team, was great to work with - very communicative and reliable. Their head technician, Park, who came after the install was completed was the best! We then decided to also add another heat pump to the main level of our home, albeit for a different reason - to get rid of as much of the gas run equipment in our house as possible and to take even more advantage of the solar panels we have had for a number of years. After having such a positive experience with Techpro for our wall heater install several years ago (2017), we decided to contact them again to install a mini split A/C. They were the first ones we reached out to and we were hoping that we would get some benefit as repeat customers. Unfortunately, the poor customer service this time around during the estimate/quoting process was very frustrating. The estimate guy came out and took a look at our situation and told me that he would get back to me with a quote after consulting someone. After not hearing back for a few days, I had to reach out to them multiple times and finally received the quote over a week after the visit. After a bit of email back and forth, we revised the scope of the quote and it was determined that they would need another appointment to take a look at our attic to make sure there is enough space for the A/C line set. On a Tuesday, they told us that they could come by on that Saturday. I responded that Saturday afternoon would work since we were planning to be out in the morning. Then radio silence. I sent multiple emails throughout the week to confirm the time but they never responded. Then on Friday evening, he calls and leaves a voicemail that he will be there Saturday morning. I frantically called back to try and clarify that Saturday morning will not work (as I explained in my emails), but the call went to the main hotline. The receptionist didn't know the estimate guy's schedule and couldn't help me. She forwarded me to someone else but they couldn't help me either. Eventually, I was able to get a hold of the estimates guy on Saturday morning to explain that the time wouldn't work and we needed to reschedule. He came by later in the day to take a look at the attic and claimed that he didn't see my emails. After all of this, I was just so disappointed in the poor communication (which I had no issue with back in 2017) and it seemed pretty clear to me that they weren't valuing my business. They made a lot of excuses throughout like they were really busy or that they were going through some changes, but that doesn't really excuse what happened. Needless to say, we decided to move forward with a different company for our mini-split installation. read more

I used TechPro to install a heat pump and was very happy with the communication, install process, cleanliness each day, and follow up when we had an issue with both a small noise issue that was resolved and a small issue when the inspector came out from the city. They are handling my rebate as well and while I haven't received that yet so far the communication around required documentation has been timely. Just an update to this. After reading my review they reached out to me and asked if they could give me a quote. I took them up on the offer and they came out on the agreed upon time. I had a very frank conversation with what I believe was the owner about their customer service and how hard it was to get a quote. Basically what he told me was they were so overwhelmed with work that priority goes to their existing customers when busy and new customers, quotes etc, are a last priority. The quote he gave was roughly 10% higher than the quote from another company I ultimately went with. I do appreciate them trying to salvage this relationship, but I'm still very skeptical about their "if you are a current customer, we will answer your call" mentality. He even talked about a special number existing customers get where they will actually answer the phone. It was all just a bit much for me and my initial experience, coupled with the high quote and sketchy promise to answer my call if I spend 20K with them, I just went a different direction. read more

Our broken-down furnace was replaced by TechPro Builders recently, and I can only say the best things about them. Park was very thorough in sizing up the furnace capacity required for the air ducts already in place, instead of just going with the rating of the old furnace. He didn't try to include additional services or replacements in their quote beyond what was reasonable, but made sure that everything was going to be up to city code. He was very responsive at all times, and genuinely cared that we would not be without heating for too long, and made sure that the repair took place as soon as possible. The technicians who were performing the installation were very knowledgeable as well, and finished the job quickly and carefully without any issues. Any small concerns we had about the installation they addressed immediately and gladly. We also had an ongoing conversation with the furnace manufacturer with regards to some warranty claims, and TechPro offered to keep the old furnace at their own location for several weeks after the replacement while this was ongoing, in case an inspection needed to take place. Really appreciated the gesture. It just happened that our water heater also started leaking within a few days at around the same time, and we asked TechPro Builders to replace that as well. Garen and another two technicians came out this time for this straightforward job, which they did well as well. I asked them to make some adjustments to the water tank after the installation was finished, and they did that as well gladly the next day. Garen, like Park, is very easy to talk with and get information from, and he even volunteered to give good advice about completely unrelated issues around the house. Very nice. I especially appreciated that they were always very responsive and eager to start the jobs when we were in need, as soon as possible (literally within a workday or two). They seem to have a low-key and direct approach to their operations with no overhead of online scheduling, etc., but to us it just worked out better, given how responsive and proactive they are with the actual repair services that they provide. read more

I had contacted Techpro Builders to repair my very, very old furnace. Unfortunately, I didn't have the funding to purchase a new furnace. Park was assigned to my job and provided to me awesome technical assistance. Park was extremely knowledgeable about furnaces and very patient in attempting to find a replacement gas valve for my very old furnace. I had a complicated project but techpro came out with a great quote and executed it. Our Eichler house does not have an attic so we had to install ducts above the roof by cutting through. Garen and his team were thorough in their work and every single item was done to perfection. From insulating the ducts to hanging the HVAC from the ceiling to save my garage space to high quality electrical work. He has many good members in his team who know what they are doing. He had to work with another roofing contractor but they executed that partnership nicely by coordinating well. We had the furnace installed by Techpro in Dec 2018 but lately it started having issue when turning on. Since we had good experience with Techpro in 2018, we contacted them again. I contacted Techpro to service my high efficiency gas furnace. The overall experience was beyond my expectations. The Techpro technician, Park, was extremely easy to work with. He was extremely courteous throughout the process - from appointment setting to the actual service. Park showed up on time, performed the service in 2 hours, and proactively identified and fixed issues that I would have not even thought of, including resealing broken caulking around vent pipes going through the roof. We had our Carrier Heater go out late on Wed,12/22/21. I left messages for multiple HVAC company's, all saying they could not respond until after the holidays except for Techpro Service. On Thursday morning 12/23, right before the Holidays, and with a booked day, they said they would have a Tech out at 9:30 am! Park, our tech arrived on time, resolved our issue in about 20 minutes, also ran entire diagnostics our old heater and resealed a vent that was not done properly 10 years ago. Park's courtesy and efficiency was beyond compare! He was kind enough to explain what he was doing and instructed us on how we can better maintain our heater in the future.
