I've been to this beloved DC brunch spot once and really enjoyed it, this was years ago though. My fiancé and I decided to return on a recent long weekend DC trip. I highly recommend making a reservation for this spot because it gets really packed. On this visit, my fiancé ordered the French toast with scrambled eggs and added some chicken sausage. I got the blueberry cheesecake Ted tart. I'm a sucker for locally made poptarts and remember loving theirs the first time I got it. On this trip, I didn't care for it as much. I think I wish they had warmed it up or brought it to me on a plate instead of a baggie. My fiancé felt like the French toast was more toast-like and barely soaked in any egg. We did enjoy the scrambled eggs. The hashbrowns had a nice crunch on top, but the rest was ok. And the sausage was very dry. Unfortunately, this visit was a bit of a hiccup, but maybe we just ordered the wrong thing. I'd still come back to order something different. read more

Ted's is amazing. This was one of our favorite places on our trip to DC. I missed coming here on my last trip but after going this time, Ted's will be a must-visit anytime I am in DC. Picture a historic building housing an upscale but down to earth diner and you will understand what Ted's is. It is located in a neighborhood and has a neighborhood joint kind of appeal. Service was friendly and we were made to feel like regulars despite being a long way from home. I get the feeling that there are a lot of locals who visit regularly. It just feels like that type of spot. My youngest got a massive strawberry shake to accompany her meal. They put it in a glass like normal but also sent the metal cup with the excess. For the price of one, she got two. Needless to say, she was thrilled. I got a club sandwich because I love club sandwiches. It was delicious. One would think it would be easy to make a good club but one would be wrong. Ted knows what is up and did a great job. Finishing out our meal was a homemade pop tart that we all tried. Best pop tart ever. PS - They have at least one IPA on tap. Get one with your club and thank me later. Come to Ted's. You will be happy you listened to me. read more

By far one of the tastiest versions of salmon benedict I've ever had! Norway Benedict, substituted crispy tater tots for the traditional toasted mcmuffin. Ted's would be 4/5 for food, ambience, and staff. However, they add an auto 5% service fee that they never disclose. The servers present an iPad to pay your bill, and you cannot tell this charge is on it, you're just prompted to pay 18% 20% or 25% service fee. So the practice of building in the extra undisclosed 5% is super shady. The only reason I caught it was I asked for a paper bill so my party could split the check. We normally love this place but this practice is wildly unacceptable. Edited to note: we've been here probably a dozen times and always pay via the kiosk. Not once had the 5% "service fee" ever been disclosed to us. read more

When we finally asked to speak with a manager, Giovanni told us that our group had not checked in until 11:30 a.m. That was simply not true. Rather than acknowledge the delay, apologize, or offer any meaningful solution, he essentially told us that we were free to leave if we were unhappy with the situation. Delays happen, especially during busy brunch service. What disappointed us was not the wait itself but the way it was handled. A straightforward apology and an honest update would have gone a long way. Instead, we were given conflicting information and then blamed for a problem that was not of our making. After waiting 45 minutes past our reservation time with no table and no clear path forward, our group chose to leave and spend our money elsewhere. Based on this experience, I would be hesitant to make another reservation here. UPDATE: The manager responded to this review by again asserting that our entire party had not arrived by 11:00 a.m., implying that the reservation problem was caused by our group. That is incorrect. We drove over to the neighborhood and were lucky to find street parking just across 14th St. When we entered, we walked past the bar and takeout areas, and we went directly to the restaurant part. My partner and I were seated right away in a booth. This was his first time in here and he immediately loved the vibe with the comfy booth seats, dark wood, nostalgia décor (e.g. antenna TV screen and tiling on the wall and those old school bar stools). Our waitress was super nice and took care of us. For lunch, my vegetarian husband went with the Farmer's Scramble - it comes with bell peppers, mushrooms, spinach, Tillamook cheddar, hash browns, artisan sourdough toast. I ordered the Fable Mushroom Gyro Wrap, which came with crispy braised shiitake mushrooms, tomato, cucumber, lettuce, feta cheese, harissa, tzatziki and a side of house fries. The food was fresh and tasty, and hit the spot after a morning exploring Rock Creek Park. On a Saturday, the restaurant was bustling with families and couples. My friend and I dined for dinner a few days ago. There were barely any customers for a Wednesday evening, and the service was very good. The interior is spacious and has unique decor. We both got the huevos rancheros without meat, and the entree tasted great! Happy hour cocktails are $8, which is a great deal. They don't have a variety of options for a healthier meal. They didn't have any whole wheat breads. The sausage was cold, tasted fake, and was similar to the quality of hotel complimentary breakfast. The service was mediocre. Our waiter was nice but he wasn't attentive and never checked on our table to refill our drinks. The ambiance had a diner vibe. My coworker told me this is a great place for brunch so a few of us decided to try it. We had made a reservation for a table just in case, but it turned out they weren't even busy. A few folks dining at the bar and a few more groups at the booths. They do have a coffee bar and pastries up front but we didn't end up trying those. For food, we shared one of their homemade strawberry pop tarts. Def worth it and so much better than the actual Pop Tart brand! One of my table mates got a green juice with the breakfast burrito. I also ordered the burrito since our server recommended it. It's not large. About medium sized, not overly saucy or cheesy. Pretty good! The chorizo wasn't all that greasy either. It also comes with a side of hash browns. My other table mate got scrambled eggs with peppers, spinach, mushrooms, and cheese with hash and toast. My friends and I made a last minute reservation at Ted's Bulletin. We were sat quickly on a busy Friday night. Our service experience was okay. Our waitress was clearly overwhelmed with a lot of tables. It was loud but not too bad. Now, any even small drawback was made up for by the food. The food was SO amazing. I had the chicken parmesan and it was decadent and a large portion. My friend's grilled cheese and tomato soup was also a highlight. Not pictured but if you are looking for an app recommendation, the jalapeño wontons were absolutely amazing. I would love to return to Ted's and try brunch. Big fan of Ted's Bulletin. We live near the Barracks Row location but wanted to try a new location today. Same great food, same great service, but even better people watching if you sit at a window seat in the bar. 14th NW is a busy area and I love counting all the dogs that pass by! I had the pancake stack, which I forgot was FOUR pancakes and not the standard 2-3. It also comes with eggs, hash browns, and choice of meat - pretty uncommon for most sweet breakfast entrees. My date had the chicken and biscuits with sausage gravy. They were huge and so so good! We washed it all down with a spicy, class Bloody Mary and a cranberry mimosa, both of which were great! As you enter through the original revolving doors, on your right is the original bar, and on your left is an open bakery. This is a happier lobby than most! The hostess leads you to booths that are both old fashioned and comfortable. The open kitchen has seats at a long bar too. When we arrived at 08:00 on a Sunday morning, the place was nearly empty; by 08:30 someone cranked the stereo to Tears For Fears' "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" (Washington, nice), and the staff started getting tables in quick order. By 09:30 the place was packed. Parking on the street would have been impossible; Uber/Lyft or Metro a better option. Swann Street is the cross street. It was loud, in a good way, but we were still able to carry on a conversation at our table. The gentleman who seated us was very friendly and highly recommended the Truffle Mac & Cheese Bites as a starter. We took his recommendation and he was right We also had the Bavarian Pretzels and enjoyed those. Our server, Mebratu, was very nice and was hustling all might long.
