The General Manager Doug denied service to us because my friend has a service dog. Per ADA as long as the dog is leashed businesses can only ask 1) "is the dog trained for a service?" and 2) "what is the dog trained for?" But the manager refused to look into it and when we called corporate the operations manager was out. Poor person in the office looked it up and said that we were correct but he couldn't do anything about it. Another staff person acknowledged that this is an ongoing issue with another couple as well. This is unacceptable and illegal. We have already notified several news station because HR training must be updated to reflect legal requirements. None of us have had issues at other Tee Jays restaurants, it seems specifically to be an issue with this manager. Update: the operations manager called back and apologized but when she asked what she could do to make it better was very dismissive of a simple recommendation to make sure all staff had base knowledge on ADA expectations and acted as if this were a simple complaint of burnt food or something rather than a legal issue of discrimination. read more

Once upon a time there were many choices for large sit down chain breakfast diners in Columbus. Now there are fewer. Thankfully Tee Jaye's is still going strong in several locations. Then when it came time to pay the girl said take your time which we were ready but regardless we waited 10 minutes and then we went out back where the workers were standing smoking and we had to tell them to get inside we were ready to pay and that people had left because they had to wait so long to be serve. I'm not sure how this place stays in business. When we arrived for dinner around 6 on a Thursday we were the only ones there. A couple more people arrived before we left. But I don't think it was at even 10% capacity. The exterior looks new but the interior looks like it's been around a while. Country music played continuously. The service was attentive. The food is ok. The creamed chipped beef is served on biscuits that tasted like they were day old. Over easy eggs with the gravy all over everything in a big mess. It was served lukewarm but the waiter put it in the microwave to warm it up.I don't think I ate even half of my meal. The creamed chipped beef was really a thick gloppy gravy with chunks of meat. The vibe of the restaurant almost reminds you of a Bob Evan's where it's homey. When you walk in you're greeted by the employee at the cash register. I even got a chance to talk to the manager and everyone was extremely nice. You do notice that it is an older place and the furniture is a little torn. Our waitress came and got our drink orders right away. She came back later and got our orders. I got the Barnyard Buster which comes with two biscuits, two sunny side up eggs, hash browns, covered with country sausage gravy. She asked me if I wanted my meal together or separate, which I did not really know what she meant by that, but I said together. My friend ordered the corned beef hash which is 3 eggs, country fries or hash browns, corned beef hash with toast or biscuits. We got a side of pancakes instead. While waiting we both got a coffee to start our meal. It was okay. It tasted very watered down. I added some of the sugar and it made the coffee taste very sour for some reason. It was not my favorite. Our meals came out within 15 minutes so bravo to them for that! I finally then realized what she meant by together or separate because everything was completely covered in their gravy and I never thought I'd say it, but it was too much gravy! I accidentally deleted the picture or else I would show it. If you do not want everything covered in gravy, ask for it to be separate!!!! I felt like it ruined my meal just because it was covered with gravy. The gravy was very grainy too and I think there was just too much flour so the consistency of it was off. I tried to scoop off most of the gravy onto another plate with the biscuit. The corned beef hash was okay. It was not exactly what we were imagining for corned beef. I will say the hash browns were perfectly crispy and flavorful! That was my favorite part. The eggs were cooked perfectly too because that yolk was definitely runny!!! The pancakes were just alright. I will say everything is super cheap!! The corned beef dish was $7.75 and mine was $6.50. Crazy!!! I do not think I will go out of my way again to come back, but hey it is a cheap meal. read more

Amid the COVID-19 period, Tee-Jaye's did a decent job of keeping patrons distanced from each other and sanitizing the restaurant. The food was alright. INTERIOR OF BOTH BATHROOMS ARE DISGUSTING AND OFF PUTTING WHEN SOMEONE WANTS TO SIT ON THE COMMODE. I cannot imagine Dayna spending her money to correct problems like this ever. She doesn't care about her employees or her customers so don't expect this bathroom issue to ever get repaired. What you should be excited about first and foremost is this is the best TJ's to experience such kind, dedicated, professional, caring, overworked staff/crew in the corporation I guarantee you that. I believe strongly that because most of this staff has been here for a while and has consistent lungevity that food is even better. I had lived in the South End near the Parsons Avenue restaurant before moving up into The Hilltop. The Parsons Ave restaurant was what you might consider a roach-infested drunken hole in the wall and I gave up trying to eat anything there. I finally gave in and came to the West Broad Street store. My first visit to West Broad I sat down and was elated at not seeing filth, not seeing disgusting trash laying around, not being sickened with smells (the bathroom smell is on the side near the bathrooms), having service from hard working professionals, food that was really good tasting and liked good. Yes, it is heavy carb country fare but here it is very good food. Yes, it doesn't draw a young hip crowd that has a lot of disposable income, it doesn't look pretty or sexy but it is what it says it is. Give the West Broad store a chance. Pandemic hurt TJ's as it did everywhere so 24-hr service is not available. When they say they close at 9 pm you'll not be able to enter after 830 when they lock the doors. This frustrates me and will not change. I know this is unlike the places that let you in until the closing bell rings. Someone will stay late to serve you I know. My family and I came here after church and it was pretty busy. I'm sure everyone had the same thing in mind that my father in law did after church lol (a barnyard buster). Parking was pretty packed but luckily there's so much parking you don't have to worry about not getting a spot. The staff was friendly immediately walking into the door and I just love the old school look of the place, it reminds me of my granny's house. They also have a bunch of customers art work and sheets they filled out on the walls and I thought that was pretty neat. You pay up front at the counter like bob evans, so they have a bunch of candy and pie and sweets that you can purchase up there as well. Anyways, I ordered the BLT with fries and Mac n cheese, I give my meal a 3.5/5 just because the menu said a BLT with mayonnaise and I got a BLT with miracle whip, so just a heads up they use miracle whip... hopefully this was a mistake or an off day. My husband got mozzarella sticks that tasted like string cheese breaded.. delicious but no cheese pull, just a stick of cheese. His burger was pretty good! The fries were actually really good, I'm picky about my fries but these were crispy and delicious. They made me feel so at home it was like I had no worries. And I have a lot of those. There is one waitress I would love to recommend to everyone. I've been to this Tee Jaye's location a number of times, and I can tell you it's the next best thing to being served breakfast in bed. Right off the bat, if you love pancakes, I highly recommend the peanut butter stack. It's heaven on a plate, especially if you're into sweet breakfasts. If you go by the negative reviews, you'd think the service is awful and the food is lame. My answer is that those people must just be high-maintenance and hard to please. This Tee Jaye's location is very folksy, Mayberry-esque. They have a lot of regular customers, and sometimes the staff can be seen catching up with people they know. It's part of the westside culture and clientele. If you're looking for fancy food and service, go to a Cameron Mitchell restaurant. Being one of the few places open after 9pm on a Sunday night, I lingered in. I wasn't sure what to expect, I just remember hearing a lot about gravy on commercials when I was younger. The waitress was very welcoming aside from calling me pet names. We were of other generations but "honey", "sweetie", and "babe" are for a man in my life, not some stranger. Anyways I decided on the grilled chicken with mac and cheese and corn. My chicken was the basic Italian marinated and did have a little fat I had to cut off but a good flavor overall and pretty juicy. The mac and cheese was very cheesy and had the feeling of oven baked, which in turn was comforting. My corn had to be doctored with butter and pepper but was standard. I will praise highly of my dessert. I had the salty caramel cheesecake. This dessert is very rich but the almond crust and caramel layer on top compliment one another so well. I honestly would consider just buying a whole cheesecake from there if at all possible. In conclusion the food was much like you would expect from cracker barrel or bob Evans. It was very busy and VERY hot so not an ideal working environment and understandable to be a bit on edge. However; their behavior was completely unacceptable. They yelled at servers, slammed finished plates of food on the counter, threw tickets. They started mocking the servers and then dancing when servers would leave the area upset. I provided this feedback to one of the managers who proceeded to give me all the reasons the cooks would be upset and frustrated and that it was okay. The cabbage on the corn beef and cabbage had black marks on it from the braising. Yes, I know it's not "fine dining", but a bit of knife work would go a long way to making the food better. While this might not be related tot the food; I wish they revamped the interior of the building. It looks like it's been stuck in the 90's with their out of style carpet and bulky blue drapes. Took about 18 minutes to get out food. Each breakfast meal is about $5-7, so it's extremely affordable for the portion size. Don't trust them. An employee stole an item that accidentally fell out of my purse. When I returned to the restaurant, I was told they found the item but now no one knows what happened to it and district manager doesn't care. The food was awful, everything was clearly frozen or from a can. The sausage gravy was flavorless glue. There was a man urinating in the middle of the parking lot as we arrived.
