If breakfast isn't what you're looking for try the chicken cordon blue on wheat toast and hashbrowns. Came in on a Saturday morning for breakfast and was greeted by the famed long line, which happened to be inside because of the rain. Based on prior reviews, I kept reassuring my dining companions that it was supposed to be worth the wait so we stood patiently in line. Unfortunately, I ended up with egg on my face with this one. After 15 or so minutes in line, we were finally seated, but had to wait a while before drink orders were taken, and even longer before food orders were taken. The waitress was pleasant though and apologized for the extra time we were kept waiting. I ordered a pancake, scrambled eggs, a biscuit and bacon with a hot chocolate. When the food finally came out, I had high hopes... which were instantly dashed when our plates were put down on the table. There was, as promised, a lot of food; but after tasting it, that wasn't something that I was glad about. Everything was cold except for the biscuit, and the pancake was drenched in butter even though I asked for it to be left off. The pancake batter itself had kind of an odd taste to it which made me long for a box of Bisquick. The hot chocolate and the Southern style biscuit were probably the only things that I enjoyed. The biscuit was large, soft and doughy (not the flaky buttery kind). The eggs were a congealed lump and the bacon was about as tough as beef jerky. No, the food wasn't inedible. And it was cheap and plentiful, as promised. But I could have gotten the exact same thing, and possibly even a slightly better version, at Denny's without the long wait. The food overall was probably an even three stars. I really wanted to like Telwink and had been hoping it was a hidden, hole-in-the-wall gem. My son wanted to try their Jalapeno Sausage, so we ordered that along with a Belgian Waffle, a side of ham, the Ranchero omelette, and a grilled Ham & Cheese to go. First time there, so not sure what I was supposed to do when I went inside. The cashier is very friendly with the regulars but her demeanor was very neutral with me. I was directed to the counter and the waitress there was very helpful. I was extremely happy to see she had boxed up my order, so I left a tip for her. All of our orders were large portions and everything tasted delicious. I was especially impressed with the waffle. The prices here are, dare I say, cheap! It was already hot at 10:00 am and the parking lot was fairly full, so I had to park a bit from the entrance. I was thrilled that their AC not only works extremely well but that a nice, cold blast of air hit me in the entryway. We want to dine-in on our next visit and try out one of the cozy looking booths! What a hidden gem! Who would have thought this place was so good. Don't let the exterior or location turn you off. We arrived at about 10:30 and joined the line which moved supper fast. We shared a large table with another group and had great service. Plates come out super fast and the wait staff works great in the chaos of the restaurant. It's very entertaining to watch all of the movement while enjoying top notch food. I had never thought to try fried fish and eggs and I can honestly say it was the best. The once friendly staff has all left and now you have very rude ladies there now. Love this place, old school feel and diner is always full. My family loves it because there is some type of breakfast for all of my picky eaters. The chicken friend chicken is off the hook! I'm writing a 2-week-old review of Telwink Grill. Service was crap - only because it's so damn busy, but food was awesome! I ordered the chopped steak breakfast, which had an excellent beefy flavor to it. Thumbs up! It's a great bargain for what you get (which included eggs and toast). Although I hate liver, my friend who ordered liver and onions thought it was the bomb diggity. I grabbed a dollop of the gravy from her dish and added it to my chopped steak and I couldn't refute her claim! As good as my chopped steak was, the gravy made it even better. (That's my tip of the week, fellow readers: order the chopped steak breakfast and ask for gravy on the side). My friend declared that this place is in the hood, but I didn't mind the ambiance - complete with a lady pushing a shopping cart and dudes loitering around the restaurant lookin' for charity. Amazing brunch spot in the east side. A lovely little diner, with the normal selections, eggs, waffles, pancakes, and my favorite, chicken-fried steak on the breakfast side; for lunch, a selection of sandwiches, patty melt, burgers, BLT, chicken sandwiches, tuna salad, and grilled cheese. On weekend mornings, the parking lot stays completely full for almost the whole time they are open. There can be quite a long wait sometimes, especially if you are there with a large party, but the turnover is quick and the kitchen is fast. The staff is very friendly and attentive, without being overbearing or hovering. They seem to always have a smile on, even when the restaurant is filed to the brim with diners and people on line to dine. ~30 tables inside, ~15 bar seats (one from which I write this review, able to sneak past the line and into the only free seat at the bar. And now here's my food less than 8 minutes from ordering, with a full restaurant. Kitchen staff is fast and very good at their jobs. read more
