A blast from the past! I like the 1970s vibe of TelWink. It's very popular and always busy. Weekend mornings there is always a wait. The Good: I hope they never change. I feel like I stepped into a time warp every time I come here. While the Formica counters and tables are well worn, they are also always clean. The waitresses have been there forever and are hard working and friendly. The menu for breakfast and lunch is extensive and reasonably priced. You will find everything that you would expect from a restaurant that has been around for sixty years. The Bad: Although there is a large parking lot, it does become quite crowded. The food is good comfort food, but you will not be bothered with anything fancy. If it was not on the menu in 1970, it probably is not on the menu today. I will return again and again. read more

I ordered chicken fried chicken and eggs, a bacon/ sausage omelette (I added bell peppers, onions and tomatoes and cheese) and I ordered a pancake. My Mom likes to keep it simple when it comes to her food choices, we was out running errands and today was my turn to treat. I knew she would really like Telwink Grill. The wait wasn't too long, while she waited in line, I was enjoying the energy of the eclipse moon. Your never to young or old to enjoy their country cooking and wonderful service. I ordered my usual, a real egg meat omelette, an omelette is not a real omelette without real eggs. Grits of course, fresh churned buttery butter hold the cheese and sugar please. Mom got fish, green beans and fries. So we're chit chatting and my nose and eyeballs keep zooming on my neighbors stack of pancakes. My nose and eyeballs all ways bully's my waistline, I fought really hard but that's a battle I choose not to fight. "Miss, can you bring me 1 pancake?" Who said that? I would call this place a staple to the local area. Family run and family owned, this is the epitome of a hole in the wall diner that is the backbone of this community. Prices were phenomenal for the amount of food you are given. The waffle is to die for. It absolutely set the bar for waffle standards. I'll never be able to achieve that feeling ever again. Alright, this place gets pretty busy for brunch but the line moves quickly. The turn over is fast cause they bring your food out fairly quickly after you sit down and order. We had to wait about 10-15 mins on a Sunday morning, not horrible - it definitely could've been way worse! There's a huge parking lot and believe me when I say it was full when we pulled in. This place is an old diner - looks like it's been here forever and none of the furnishings inside has been replaced since then. But I'm not here for the fancy setting, I'm here for a good ol' American breakfast and the diner actually adds to the experience. The prices are a steal this day and age - $5 for a waffle, $9 for the breakfast platter with bacon or sausage, hash browns, eggs and biscuit. Cheap prices for the large amount of food you get - I can see why it gets so busy. We ordered the breakfast platter, the waffle and the French toast. The waffle was probably the best thing we got - I wished it was a bit crispier on the outside but most places rarely get this right. The waffle tasted good and was light and fluffy. Next time I would order it without the large chunk of margarine slathered in the middle. The French Toast on the other hand tasted funny to the both of us. We didn't really enjoy this dish and again, too much margarine slathered on it. The breakfast platter was your basic breakfast fares - the bacon was as expected, crispy.. the eggs were done correctly, as I ordered them - over easy. The hash browns had small bits that I liked, cause they were crispy but the other parts were way soft. Tasted like hash browns bought frozen from a bag. Service was ok - not horrible but not amazing. They got you what you needed when you flagged them down. Overall, it was an ok breakfast for a decent price! Infamous diner in Houston. They serve classic breakfast items. My only qualm is that most of the menu consists of things you could make at home. For example, French toast, eggs, bacon, etc. Pretty simple stuff. I ended up getting fried catfish, with coleslaw, rolls, and French fries. They initially messed up my order, but it was quickly fixed. The catfish was good and crispy. The best way I can explain it is that this is like the diners you see in the movies. I was on the phone with a friend put my order in my food came back out within no less than eight minutes. OMG I so loved this hidden gem If you're not from Houston you might miss out on this small & quaint spot! While visiting over Thanksgiving weekend I was treated to this breakfast and I was not disappointed! I enjoyed the fresh & hot chicken without the gravy, along with my eggs and tomatoes! I opted for the tomato vs. hash browns or grits because they give you huge portions! I didn't even finish it because I was shocked to receive two large chicken breasts! My friend raved about the catfish breakfast. Everything is cooked to order. I encourage you to go early because it gets packed! The customer service is awesome. This was my first trip to Houston and this place was recommended. Not much to look at from the outside but there was a line which is usually a good sign. The line moved quick and the menu had a decent amount of options. I saw my favorite of liver and onions and couldn't help myself but to order it with a big bowl of grits. It was good, of course not as seasoned as I would like but tender and good. I also ordered a side of their hot biscuits and jelly but when they brought my food they said they were out of biscuits.
