We came early on NYE to get some drinks before their ticketed event began. Drinks are definitely pricey but we were very impressed with their martini list - extensive and both martinis we tried were great! The free popcorn is a nice touch. I have had no problems when I went to Temple. The drinks are generally good. The services had been excellent. I usually go at opening and because of its ambiance I only bring friends here for special occasions. It is a beautiful bar and harkens back to the old cocktail bars of the 20s and 30s. Drinks are pricey as expected because the liquor is top shelf. Today was a problem though. I wanted to take a friend for drink after dinner for his birthday. We had been shopping and had a late lunch and wanted to finish the afternoon off with a few cocktails at Temple. We arrived and was told by an all too eager doorman that we weren't dressed appropriately and we needed reservations (we were neat but we were wearing shorts, which is necessary in this intense heat). I was confused because I didn't know there was such a policy. This was not my first time nor second time at Temple and never had such a policy enforced. RESERVATIONS? Nah, I'll pass for the Uptown bars or the Bed Stuy bars. We left immediately; I can drop my $250-$300 somewhere else far more accommodating and less exclusive and MORE DIVERSE. My friend and I walked in with no reservation. We were just hung out in the area and saw this bar nearby. I love the vibe of the place, interior and style of secret bar. No name of the bar outside only symbol of animal skeleton next to the door. The host was super nice to us, and we told her we can just sit at the bar because we didn't reserve the table. She brought us to waiting area, but we were still able to order some drinks while waiting. Drinks are fantastic, my friend who is also a bartender gave them a compliment. They did a great job with martini straight up with a twist. For my drink I had spicy flamingo, it is Tequila blanco, watermelon, lime, agave & chili salt. Was here last night on a whim to start the night. Gorgeous place! I love how it's so discreet on the outside and exclusive. Also love how there's a pay phone when you walk in on the right side. It adds NY personality to the place. One of the employees was sooo nice--compliments us and asked my girl friend and I if we wanted a table to sit down at. We weren't looking for one, just scoping out the place about to get drinks at the bar. But she was so nice we said sure. Its so cute how they give you a small bowl of popcorn at each table. Asked the bartender to make something up that was gin based and lightly fruity. Was very pleased with my cocktail with some fruit, lemon and cucumber. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. RACIST BOUNCER at the front door, the most negative experience I've ever had at a bar. He refused to make eye contact, refused to let people in even though they had a reservation, hence incurring a 'no show' charge of $50/pp. Just looking at the other reviews of this place, the bouncer has a history of discrimination against people of color. If you are considering this location for date night or a special occasion, highly recommend you go elsewhere- The Nines, Atla, ACME, Crosby Hotel Bar and Balthazar are all within a block and excellent choices. Came here with a friend for drinks on a Friday night. We did not have reservations so we had to stand around until a few seats opened at the bar - you need a reservation for those too, but the hostess was nice enough to accomodate us (maybe they had a no show? Who knows). They have a lot of female bartenders, which I thought was super cool! They have an extensive cocktail list - we came for the martinis. Their espresso martini features banana liquor, a fun addition! We then moved on to the more serious martinis, the olive oil one was my favorite. They also bring out complimentary popcorn as a snack and it is delicious! The bar did not get very crowded so we felt very comfortable. Never again. My wife and I used to frequent this place 25 years ago when I guess we were young and beautiful enough to sit at the table with the cool kids. But this time we walked in out of the rain with our adult daughter shortly after 5:00 on a Thursday, given the up-down look by the snippy greeter, shown a few lonely stools at the bar and told we could sit there. We'd just come from a museum and were dressed well enough. The bartender took his sweet time even coming to say hi. The vibe was bad, I wanted to leave but my wife and daughter wanted to stay until the next couple walked in and warmly taken to a table. It was obviously us. We started to put our jackets on just as the bartender walked over with a few glasses of water and I casually said thanks but we're not staying. He hastefully threw the water into a sink and I got the distinct impression he could just as easily thrown it at us. It was a weird and disproportional reaction. I was unsure what to expect upon arriving to this spot as there are minimum Yelp reviews about this establishment. After going, I'm honestly not sure why more people don't check this spot out- its a nice hidden gem. It was a bit confusing for me to find this spot as I didn't see a sign or name outside of the building. Once I found the correct door to enter- I was very impressed. The inside is a dimly lit bar with a back room full of seating. Very loungey. The host brought me to my party's table where there was a candle and some complimentary popcorn for us to share. It was good popcorn too- olive oil and sea salt. The drink list is comprised of a multitude of cocktails and martinis. Since I didn't see any tequila on there, I asked the server what her favorite is. I believe I was given the Vesper? It was delicious whatever it was! The overall vibe and lack of light at Temple Bar makes this spot the perfect place for an intimate date night. Yep, I hate to say it but I loved this place (lol!). Boyfriend and I stopped by around 7:30 on a Sunday night before a show at Mercury Lounge. No expectations, just heard it was a date night spot, good drinks and a sexy vibe. Was literally that. The doorman mentioned we would not get a table without a reservation but that was okay with us, we had a show! They put us in the standing area which was somewhat small but overall still good for an interaction. The bar area was very cool, great spot for a date or meeting a friend. We ended up moving to table (thank you to our fabulous server!) and enjoying our drinks there. They're around ~19$ each so prepare to spend lol but delicious and unique. STAFF LOST IN THE DARK... I have tried to be so patient with this watering hole best known for cocktails in a dimly lit ambience. My last visit here will be this week. Too many other places in Manhattan much more deserving of anyone's time and money. HORRIBLE SERVICE - INCOMPETENT & RUDE Waitress impatiently asked about five times what we want to eat while we were enjoying our first cocktail. Once we ordered an app, she sent the seemingly (amateur) manager over to let us know we needed to leave in 15 minutes. Once he realized we had cocktails still coming he then gave us 30 minutes. (Lucky us!). Ten minutes later he told us he needed the table. They need to lay off the party favors, work on proper customer communication and realize they aren't paying anyone to be there. This place is as small as my pinky finger. If you're looking for a comfortable, relaxed place with quality customer service, you're better off at the Wendy's around the corner on Broadway. First and foremost, this place is not a speakeasy, yet the entrance is impossible to find (perhaps the owner is blind, I'm not sure) - stop cosplaying Gramercy meets Lower East Side. Secondly, there is absolutely no need for a bouncer. I will state it again - this place is as small as my pinky finger - an extra, buff body is the last thing this place needs. For what it's worth, it's also a bar with a maximum capacity of 10 people, this isn't some place you would see meatpacking girlies club hopping, so I think a hostess can do this job and kill two birds with one stone (just a small suggestion). The entire staff here is rude. The hostess will scoff at you saying that you need a reservation, even when the place is completely dead. They let us stand literally in the hall of the bar - which is the entirety of the bar, and sip our cocktails with the most disgusting popcorn I've ever been served in my life. All of the seats remained empty, even after we finished our drinks and left. An establishment with quality customer service would have allowed us to sit in the reserved seating until the reserved party arrived (second large suggestion for this place). Also, all of the bartenders seem sullen, or perhaps it's the lighting equivalent to the dark forest. This place should have genuinely stayed closed after Covid, it's only recently gained traction because they (somehow) hosted a few NYFW (yikes) events, which I cannot wrap my head around because, as I have mentioned, this place is the size of my pinky finger. This leased building is better off a Subway or Noho bodega. You are better off at The Bowery Hotel, Tom and Jerry's, or Public (I know basic), which are all within walking distance of this place - save yourself the waste of time read more

I was wearing an ankle length summer dress and heels and my boyfriend was in a polo and khaki shorts because it is summer and 85+ degrees out. The host at the front of the restaurant was extremely disrespectful and condescending. At the door, the host asked to see our ID's. He was unsure about the ID of my date, and he demanded another form of ID with an extremely disgusting tone and sense of control as if he was happy to give us a hard time. My date is 24 and doesn't carry any alternative forms of ID on her. This was met with even more condescending remarks and facial expressions, which was then followed by aggressive bending of her ID. I asked him nicely to be careful with the ID as it was absurd what we was doing, to which he replied, "Real IDs don't break," once agains with a disrespectful tone. Clearly, this person is either an idiot or a rookie, because real ID's can obviously fucking break. Update: Prior review, I complained about the size of the pour. Ask for the non-Antartic-ice-floe cube, and the pour is much better. Temple is still too loud for a bar where you're actually supposed to be talking to people, but I'm kinda deaf so a lot of people won't be bothered. I'm going there once a week or more now. read more
