Called ahead, was told no reservations but we could also sit outside and push tables together for our party of ten. Great. Showed up at 630. Got seated outside, waited a bit for service. Waiter and waitress took our drink orders. Then a hostess came out and told us we could not push the tables together. No discussion. My wife and I met friends to have dinner and cocktails at tempo for New Year's Eve. We went a day earlier just to avoid crowds. The bartenders knew how to make quality drinks. I had the smoky old-fashioned at the bar, and was very impressed. They tasted very good. The server at our table was extremely nice, professional and very friendly. The appetizers came in good time had nice flavor. We had the red beet salad, the grilled Caesar salad, the shrimp, and brussels sprouts. I thought the two salads were decent. I'm not a big beet salad fan but I think it was pretty good. Brussels and shrimp were great. For main course I had the butterfly lamb chops, which were very good although I thought the sauce was a little bland no complaints really. For sides we had the brussels sprouts as I asked to swap for the asparagus (wasn't an issue). I really thought the server was super friendly. I do not recall her name but wish I could call her out by name as I thought she was fantastic! She told us that they automatically add a 20% tip to parties over six but she would take that out if we preferred we left it just like that as she deserved it! It was not an inexpensive night, but we enjoyed ourselves, and I thought it was a good fair value with excellent service! Happy new year everybody read more

This place is one of my favorite restaurants on moody Street in waltham. I always with friends or family get the Brussels sprouts with Gonzala cheese and bacon which is excellent! and for my mail meal the pork chop with mashed potatoes ( now I am gluten free) instead of the Mac and cheese which I used and still love and Brussels sprouts and the cranberry sauce yummy Dessert is a mix variety that waiters give us. Tonight was my third time at Tempo, a restaurant at which I plan to become a regular. The food is inventive, delicious, and consistently well-prepared and service is friendly and casual. I always start my meals here with the calamari, which is among the best I've had anywhere. It's flash-fried in a very light and crispy batter, and is extremely tender. They also serve it with 2 dipping sauces, which are addictive. And don't pass up on their homemade beer bread, which is complimentary. I've had 3 different seafood entrees here. My first was the salmon, which is accompanied by some of the most delicious risotto I've ever had-- with butternut squash, cranberry, and sage. I've also tried the seared tuna, which is served with stir fried vegetables and rice. The tuna was lightly seared with a nicely seasoned crust, and the vegetables were nice and crisp. Most recently I had their cashew-crusted cod, which was both sweet and savory-- a real feast for the senses. Their selection of beers on draught is extensive. Most recently I had the Jack's Abby Leisure Time Blood Orange, a tasty wheat beer that wasn't overpowering with fruitiness. Their dessert menu looks excellent, though I've never sampled it. Stopped at Tempo the day of this year's hurricane, right after a wake. I know, doesn't seem like a very good day. We were one of the few people sitting outside, because of the hurricane, but while it was windy, it stayed dry, so we were happy. So much was closed on Moody Street so this was sort of the last choice on the street but since Tempo was open we decided to come visit. It was some of the best food I've had in a long time. We shared shoestring truffle fries, wings, and asian steak skewers. Everything was so delicious, the fries were hot and crispy with aioli, the wings were super dark and somehow were sweet, smokey and spicy, and the skewers were simple and good. We also had a beer and a cocktail, both of which were great. But the best part was the quick, kind service we received even during such a tough time. read more

This was definitely a surprise I asked the waiter for a recommendation between the pen seared shrimp and the spicy scallop and shrimp dish and she recommended the spicy scallop and shrimp and I could not believe the amazing explosion of taste that I experienced. The drinks were also very good and the vibe was very lively I would 100% revisit when I'm next in the area. Visiting Waltham for the night, we made a reservation based on great reviews and comments about it being a romantic spot for a date. Ended up sitting at the bar instead of the table. Made reservations at the last minute for my team of 10 to get together after work. They said they could put us in the back bar area. When we arrived it looked like we were going way back but when we rounded the corner it was a pleasant surprise. Perfect setup and not overly loud. Service was excellent. We had a round of drinks and some beers. Great craft cocktails and very tasty. The apps were just as awesome. Ones to note- the potstickers were a big hit and the dipping sauce was great, the kung pao broccoli (my favorite I think), the garlic truffle fries were good and garlicky. The calamari was light but just ok. Wish I had pics but we were so busy eating it didn't even occur to me! I had to run but my team stayed on and had dinner- they all loved the food. Tempo really hit the spot. My husband and I are about to fly back to Texas after visiting my son at Brandeis for parents weekend. This was the perfect way to end our trip. I have posted pictures of all of our food. It was all super good! I definitely enjoyed the seasonal spin of the specials menu. The other thing that is really important that a lot of restaurants don't understand the importance of is having music playing in the background. It creates ambiance and drowns out the conversation of other diners. Collenne was a very good server. She was around at all the perfect times. Not hovering. Not ignoring. Magnific!!! This past weekend we came back to Tempo for the first time since before Covid started, and its as good as we remember. Dishes taste fresh, well balanced, very comfortable portions, and a great atmosphere. Drinks were expertly prepared and refreshing. We ordered the Stroganoff and the Hangar steak. To me it looked like the noodles of the Stroganoff were hand made, and done so perfectly. We also had the Chipotle Chicken Taquitos for an appetizer. While they may have not been my favorite thing on the menu, that entirely comes down to personal preference. The flavors were still very well balanced and melded together well. It should speak to how good this restaurants food is when even the dishes you don't particularly care for are still good! As a side note, we used to come here for $1 oysters on Tuesdays. I'm not sure if they still offer it, however I'll be back to find out. read more

This was my first time coming to Tempo! The space was really unique and open. Great ambiance, gave me Boston vibes. The sangria was super yummy, and the highlight for me was the dessert and the yummy lobster rangoons. Everything at tempo is made super fresh and delivered every day. I had the most amazing dinner experience at Tempo! There is plenty of street parking here, if I remember correctly, it should be either 1 or 2 hour parking until 6pm :) The restaurant had dividers between their booth seatings, everyone is socially distanced. Our server was very enthusiastic and clearly loved what she was doing. She had great recommendations and was a wonderful server. For starters, we ordered brussel sprouts, beef and cheese rolls, and truffle fries. The brussel sprouts were on the sweet side, comes with a sweet but thick pieces of bacon. The beef and cheese spring rolls were very fun, but those truffle fries are DANGEROUSLY ADDICTING. But 10000000% recommend it :) For entrees we got the tuna and salmon. These were AMAZING!!! Tuna was perfectly cooked and paired well with the chimichurri. The bell pepper and onion rice was sooo goood omg and the broccoli completed the plate! The salmon was super crispy and well seasoned! The rissoto was sweet and soooo creammy! The kale was soo good I would love an endless amount of it! We had the server pick us a dessert of her choice and she got us the thin mint cheesecake. They support the local girl scouts, buying their cookies and making them into stunning desserts, that was a delicious and refreshing piece of cheesecake!!! Food took way too long. Food was good but the steaks and fish tacos came out burnt. Also had to change my order twice due to them being out of cod and steak tips. Take out last night. Tuna and salmon tartare beet and goat cheese salad for starters. We split the coffee crusted filet with the sauce...tonight the sauce was not on point it somehow got super sweet almost like butterscotch pudding. However sauce is never necessary for this wonderful food. Several hours later we finished with desserts of lemon cheesecake which was delightfully light and Faulk of flavor and the Girl Scout peanut butter pie I want that for my last meal. Waltham Moody street scene, on a warm clear night with many restaurant diners eating outside is excellent. We went here because they took reservations for 7 people (four actually showed up), and I thought they had Portuguese food ( they don't), but do have a varied menu, making us happy on a Saturday night. The great Portuguese restaurants in New Bedford Antonio's don't take reservations- and Captain's Place was closed for vacation. And Cambridge Brazilian places - parking is tough. So about this restaurant: the mussels were small-and the broth was very good, the crisp chicken pieces were very good, the BBQ beef, Spicy broccoli, watermelon salad, and wine were all good. Service fine. Attentive server ( from Turkey) Excellent. For four cost less than $200. read more

I actually live just around the corner from Tempo and can you believe, have lived here for 3 years and my first time going was about a week ago. I don't know why I didn't try it sooner, it's always packed which should have been a sign to me. After finally going I have nothing but good things to say. The patio is perfect, they have ample seating in front as well as an extra patio in back and some indoor dining as well. Now on to the important stuff, the food. Absolutely divine honestly I'm so impressed by the menu and how many options they have. Such a great variety I didn't know what to choose. I ended up getting the paella and it was worth it 100 percent. Delicious and tasty and a perfect portion size. My friend really enjoyed her food as well, she ended up getting the Tuna. Didn't try any desserts we were too stuffed but I'm coming back for them hehe. Overall 10/10!!!! read more

It is a nice place right on the Moody St. They have a nice atmosphere inside and outside. The day I was there we decided to sit outside, unfortunately, that day rain started. We asked a host to sit inside and they moved us right away. They have a cool cups for water, they change color depends on the temperature. This is super cool. The food and drinks were great. We ordered appetizers and desserts. We ordered Shoestring Truffle Fries, Crispy Japanese Fried Chicken Bites, and for dessert Peanut Butter S'mores Pie and Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee. I ordered a cocktail that called Zombie MILF Island. OMG, I love it! It was sweet and nice. It was not extremely sweet but it tasted amazing! Last night I met a friend at Tempo for a couple of drinks and a bite to eat. We sat at the bar and shared oysters (Tuesday is $1 Oysters), the Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls, and the Flash Fried Calamari. The food was very tasty and with interesting sauces and ingredients. I'd go back in a heartbeat. Note: Even though it was a Tuesday night, by 5:30 the bar was "standing room only." If you prefer drinking / eating at the bar come early! My only complaint... When sitting at the bar I appreciate a bar tending staff that pays attention to your glass (and plate). I.e., When the glass is near empty (or the plate is scraped clean) bar-tending 101 should kick in: Ask the customer if they would like another drink or order more food. We had to flag down a bar tender each time we wanted another drink or more food. That's just wrong IMHO. Yes, they were busy, but there were two tenders on and they weren't so busy that that they were having trouble keeping up. (I frequently eat at the bar, I prefer it there, so I know "slammed" versus "not paying attention.") Anyway, a minor complaint in the overall scheme of things. I'll def. be back next time I'm on Moody St. looking for good eats & drinks. read more

I had the signature Frose, which was refreshing and delicious, especially at an outdoor table! I didn't realize this before we got there, but there are outdoor dining patios in both the front and back of the building, which is awesome. I had the roasted chicken marsala with fresh fettuccini, which was very good but it arrived later than all the other meals at our table - not sure what happened but the waitress quickly fixed it once she realized. My mom had the cashew encrusted haddock, which she enjoyed. On a previous visit, (3 years ago) we had eaten indoors and very much enjoyed our meals, including one very happy dairy-free guest who was easily and enthusiastically accommodated. In Waltham for parents weekend at my son's college, so we decided to checkout Tempo. It did not disappoint. The menu features an extensive list of cocktails which are very professionally mixed. Checkout the Nard Dog's Garden Party if you like gin. Plenty to choose from on the menu as well. My son recommends the fried chicken bites app. All our entrees were delicious with the highlight being the porterhouse pork chop. Portion sizes were surprisingly big for a restaurant of this caliber. The fish and chips features a piece of cod roughly the size of a football. Sadly, we were too full to get dessert. The service was as good as the food. I love the neighborhood vibe here-- it's classy enough for me to feel bougie when I order my mixed drinks but cozy enough for me to want to return as a regular. The fact that you can get an all gluten-free meal here is amazing. Even in 2021 it's rare to be able to go out to a restaurant and not have to choose between delicious food and gastrointestinal purgatory. I highly recommend the burrata and butternut squash risotto-- one of the best dishes I've had. The brownie sundae was unbelievable-- I seriously couldn't believe it was gluten free. The gluten free flatbread crust could have used some work, but when we met the chef he brought that up and so I'm confident that they're improving the recipe. I love the creative names of the drinks that channel beloved shows like The Office and Parks and Rec. When I was there the bartender saw my Baby Yoda mask and offered to make me a Baby Yoda cocktail-- that and the "I Can't Believe It's Not Northrax" were cocktails I could have dipped on all night. My boyfriend even said the latter was the best Jameson drink he's had. The menu is extensive enough for you to try something different every time. I can't wait to go back! read more

This review is long overdue and I put it off for so long because I wanted to do right by Tempo. I've been to Tempo a handful of times while I lived in Waltham and never have I had a bad experience - whether it was $1 oyster Tuesdays, dinners for a special occasion, or just late-night drinks. Every visit has been perfect. Their menu rotates and often changes so unfortunately I can't remember everything I've ever eaten but below are things they've done hella-right and items on their current menu that I still recognize: - Fried Brussel Sprouts and Smoked Bacon: Perfectly done and the blue cheese crumbles really complement the vinaigrette. - New Bedford Scallops & Shrimps: The roasted tomatoes and wilted spinach pair are divine and I love the risotto and sea-faring creatures in this beautifully delicious red sauce. - Angus Bistro Steak: Coffee and mesquite dry rubs and bourbon cream are things unheard of but Will tried this and I sampled that bourbon cream sauce and God knows how it works but Tempo made it happen. Things I'm not sure if they are on the menu anymore but if you see 'em MUST TRY WHILE YOU CAN - Confit duck with risotto, BURRATA SALAD (seriously - I wrote this in caps for a reason), Lamb tacos (this was a taco special so it should turn up again!). Looking at their menu online now, they have become very heavy with the seafood ... there definitely used to be more meat options. Not sure if it was a change in direction or what but Tempo is one of the gems of Waltham. Also - if you're an adventurous drinker, they have some crazy concoctions - not all have been my favorite but they're pretty damn skippy. read more
