The food sits under heat lamps, so if you do not go during the busy times, it might not be as fresh. The salad tastes very fresh and clean. The Ahi Tuna is fresh. Tried this place for the first time today. My steak plate was wonderful, and mashed potato was awesome and baby spinach was fresh. I tried Thai shrimp bowl and it was delicious. Ambiance 2/5: It's fast casual, right when you walk in, there's someone on the register ready to take your order (Mendocino style) but because of the layout, if it's crowded, you really don't have time to think so you gotta order quick or you'll back up a line into the dining area which makes it awkward for people eating there. I'm not sure what the deal is with this location but it is far different than Irvine Spectrum - it's also pretty empty which should serve as a very good warning to not eat here. Portions are a lot smaller than other locations, lettuce isn't chopped but is platted as whole leaves and is wilted, steak isn't great quality, dressings taste completely different, honestly the entire salad tastes completely different, no bread, condiments aren't out and if you ask for salt or pepper they ever give it to you. I've been coming to this location for years and for a while stopped due to the quality in which we noticed decreased. The past two years, we have seen things improve and the staff and service also improve. Yesterday solidified how much things have really changed in a positive way. I've been coming to this location on a regular basis for awhile. It's just a little more convenient than the one at the Spectrum that I used to go to a lot. We've just been getting the Fried Chicken Plate with mashed potatoes and Romaine hearts salad ($12.50) since by the time we get there, the special of the day is always sold out. It's been pretty consistent for the most part. I know there was one day where the chicken was over-fried, so it didn't taste so good. Otherwise, the salad and mashed potatoes, along with the bread, has been pretty good. That's why we keep coming back pretty often. Service has been pretty good for the most part. They'd sometimes run out of forks, so I've had to ask for it. Sometimes I'm given the plastic utensils, which is a bit harder to eat the fried chicken with, but we dealt with it. They try the best they can to get the food to you within minutes, and if they can't, they'll give you a number and then they'll bring out the food to you. I've tried the Carrot [cup]Cake as well as the Agua Fresca, and both of them were delicious also! Oh, and I've recently tried the Almond Berry [cup]Cake more recently... Now THAT was DELICIOUS!! Blueberries and blackberries, in a pound-cake like cake. SOOO good!! You really can't go wrong with whatever you decide to get. I just like the fried chicken plate too much to order anything else (especially after we've been coming to this location more). This location can get pretty busy and crowded during rush meal times, but we haven't had an issue finding a seat inside during those times. Parking hasn't really been an issue either even though it's right next to UCI. Overall, this location has been pretty consistent for the most part. The food has been consistently good. I'm definitely coming back here! This location is just more convenient to us now instead of the one at the Spectrum, so I'm definitely a regular here! I'd definitely recommend this place if you like places like Urban Plates or Mendocino Farms. Working across the street, I came here a few times a year when I wanted a lunch slightly more special. The portions are small for the price (in my opinion). I asked about the potatoes; then I was told the regular cook had not come in, and what I was given was a rushed batch. That cost them a ratings star. I loved the seared tuna and my wife was thoroughly satisfied with her chicken salad. The mint lemonade was excellent! They even had a green juice that my wife liked that was a miracle all by itself.
