I love the food at Tender Greens. It is the type of healthy, whole food that I make regularly at home. So when I don't have time to cook, TG is always a great alternative. My rating is focused mostly on the service at this particular location and specifically toward management. There seem to be a lot of hard working people at this location but CLEARLY never enough. There is simply never enough cooks, cashiers, service staff no matter what time of day I visit. Today I waited 45-mins for two entrees that I ordered to go. The food is good. You think like you're eating healthier because their sides come with veggies or salad but some of these salad bowls are over 1000 calories. Occasionally the food if oversalted but also undersalted. Portions are also somewhat smaller since COVID. This place is always busy. Staff is working hard but whenever I order my food, it's almost always 15-20 minutes past the pick up time due to large group orders. Usually not a fan of this overpriced healthy type food places, but over the holidays they had a bomb holiday special steak plate. It comes with marinated and grilled top sirloin with a red wine shallot sauce, crispy fried Brussels sprouts, and whipped sweet potatoes. It's then served with a kale Caesar salad topped with house-made sourdough croutons. I wish they had this year round I'd eat here more often. Otherwise I typically don't like paying such a premium for what I'd normally consider bland or very pricey healthy food. tl;dr if you're really set on trying this place, order online. ordered chipotle chicken with sushi rice and baby arugula. portion of baby arugula is horrible, and tastes bitter, and takes up almost the whole plate. The chicken itself is the only good part, but I got a really small portion in comparison with the salad. The pearl pasta my party ordered is raw. the whole order took 30-40 minutes. my party received complementary drinks for the wait, but i don't think it makes up for our bad food and service. I think they heavily relied on completing online orders, which made them forget about our order. The tables were not entirely clean, there was many specs of crumbs left on the tables. Tender greens looks good on paper but in actuality is sadly dry, unseasoned, and (in my case) undercooked. Our roasted potatoes came hard and weird-tasting on the bottom. The cashier who took our order today hardly knew the menu and couldn't describe what was in any of the juices or bowls we asked about. In the vegan bowl, expect hard white beans. Only reason for 4 stars & not 5 is that they don't accept cash at the register & I prefer to pay with cash. The Katsu chicken bowl was really good. I also had mint lemonade which was amazing & they even gave me a free refill. Service was great & food arrived pretty quickly. Ambiance was pretty cool although the whole restaurant was filled with smoke inside. Not enough to really bother us too much though. Not sure if that is common or not. Ok, so this makes my second time grabbing lunch here and from the pleasant experience I had the first time, they've earned my vibe check badge. No pressure ordering, or short tempers. The teamwork is genuine and efficient. I mentioned this because, when everyone isn't on the page it reflects in the presentation and quality of our food. However, that isn't the case here. Tried their grilled salmon plate with mashed potatoes and romaine lettuce as the green. Salmon was flavorful, with crispy skin. Mashed potatoes were creamy and had a nice savor to it. It comes with a piece of crispy garlic bread, which is my favorite part! Kind of pricey for the small portion, but overall very flavorful. For protein I tried the Salt and Pepper Chicken, Chipotle BBQ Chicken, and the Grilled Steak and they were super tender and juicy, not a dry patch anywhere on the meat!! For sides, I got the leafy greens, fingerling potatoes, and seasonal veggies. The leafy greens was just a salad and the lettuce was fresh and crunchy. The potatoes could use a little more flavor or salt, it was pretty bland and the seasonal veggies were good variety! For a healthy fast food alternative, this place is perfect and I was super impressed for my first time here. It was comparable to Sweet Greens but I think I might like it here a little bit more. Food's good but what's awful is the wait when ordering for pickup. My order is never ready by the time I get there, which is usually 25-30 minutes after I place the order. I then have to wait an additional 10-20 minutes after I arrive. Why does it take nearly 45 minutes to prepare an order? Most of the time it's never that busy when I go. The most recent time I went it looked like there were a good chunk of online orders as there were many people waiting up front, and the staff seemed overwhelmed. Maybe management needs to hire more employees so it's more efficient. It sucks cause the food is good and the employees are nice. But overall, I don't recommend ordering for pickup here, you will be waiting for way too long. Lettuce is old and browned, salt and pepper chicken thigh is dry, more croutons on my salad than chicken or tomatoes (and I ordered no croutons), mashed potatoes not seasoned and gummy. I'm such a fan of this place that the only kind of review I could write for them is glowing. If there was any serious issue with the food or service, it hasn't found me yet. After being a periodic customer when a previous employer regularly picked up dinner for when I worked long hours (actually, it was the Culver City location then), I quickly became a fan. I learned of this location from my sister (after I suggested a competitor nearby on Hawthorne Blvd. for brunch). Tender Greens was/is her preference--not surprisingly, and she's rather fastidious about food. I've become sort of calibrated on the Mediterranean Steak Salad. It's something I crave about monthly.
