I always call ahead to place an order for take out, mostly on the weekdays. I order the chicken or shrimp fried rice specials (comes with LOADS of rice, veggies, + salad/soup) they are packed with flavor & it is worth the price. They do have the best fried rice & white sauce in town. Teppan does have a BYOB with a small fee which is nice. However, if you're looking for teppan, sushi, and a more elegant ambiance then Osabi is your place for sure. (No shade just honesty :) read more

I love Hibachi grills because they are so entertaining. Who doesn't like a dinner and a show?!!! I came here for my daughters birthday and my birthday since our birthdays are within a few days of each other. I called in advance to make reservations, and told the guy on the phone we were celebrating two birthdays. We arrived 5 minutes before our reservation time and we waited in a small but crowded area for 15-20 minutes next to the door where a cold draft blasted us every time people squeezed by while leaving. Once seated, I noticed the lighting was non existent in my area where I could hardly read the menu but everywhere else in the restaurant seem to be ok. As I scanned the restaurant, I saw many neon pieces of paper pinned to the walls advertising specials which was very tacky and took away from the Japanese decor. Our drink order was taken promptly and our drinks came shortly thereafter. Our chef came out smiled, said hello then began to cook our food. I was pleased to see a few tricks here and there but it was clear the gentlemen serving us was just going through the motions of getting the food cooked in a robotic way so that he could then leave. The lobster did not taste so fresh but I will say the filet Mignon was delicious and cooked perfectly. At the end of our meal we realized we were not served the ice cream that was part of the menu we selected. A solid 4 stars, they take last minute reservations and the ambiance was casual, you are paying for experience at least at dinner.  Food was good  the filet mignon was a little over cooked but not bad. The mahi mahi was good and the fried rice was amazing. service: service was good, definitely entertaing.  we wer sat pretty quickly with our last minute reservation.  Kid friendly we didnt bring the kids but would next time. In preparation to the chef's arrival Jessica recommended some appetizers .. The table ordered sushi while we waited on our other guests : The food was amazing -delicious sauces , soup and salad to start .. And our chef :ANTONIO was a character keeping us entertained with his slide of hands and jokes : very welcoming ..Pancho was attentive with refilling our drinks and supporting the Chef.. They offer Sushi .. No separate sushi bar ; however ; Michael prepared tasty rolls. Overall the food and service was exceptional ; fresh veggies ; and choice cut meats and seafood. I was able to share with the host : my plan with bringing my parents and daughter ; and he was open by accommodating my daughter who is on the spectrum and highly sensitive to noise by providing a separate room ; when available .. I say this is by far a great family restaurant that I plan to frequent !! Great for Birthday Celebrations .. With singing and a light show .. This place was a good pick for my short visit to the area! I came here with a group of 8 and we had a bit of a longer wait but nothing out of control. It was such a great experience for the kids to see for the first time! It's nice that they do allow you to bring in your own drinks, can help keep your tab down especially if you are in a large group. The environment is awesome, people seem to come here for a good time and the experience! The fried rice was delicious as expected and the steak, chicken and shrimp were on point as well. The Teppan show was great. The food, well.... I got fried rice with Mahi Mahi and chicken lunch special combo. For $13 bucks it was a lot of food. There was no pink sauce (!) which makes me sad, but their white sauce was kinda close, so it'll do. There was also a ginger sauce and teriyaki sauce. What really got me was their fried rice. It was quite unappetizing. They premade their rice with the frozen vegetable medley you find at the grocery store (peas, carrots, corn, green beans and lima beans) and it made it taste weird. The chef only made some eggs and then mixed it in with the premade veggie rice. It just had an odd taste. I wish they made it like every other teppan place, which usually throws in onions and carrots and garlic butter with a little soy with plain white rice. Made to order fried rice. Panda Express has better fried rice than what I paid an extra $3 for. The chicken and mahi mahi was fine and cooked well. I went there at an off time (3pm on a saturday) but it was still pretty busy. I guess because it's a weekend? I was very happy that they also seated me at the grill being just by myself. I've been to places that won't seat me because I'm by myself. We have been here numerous times and while the food is good we can't over look how disgusting this place has gotten. Last time we went a month ago, the floor was sticky and the table was dirty. They wiped it down but didn't really do that great of a job. We gave it another shot today and there was dried up crud on the grill, left over rice. Lord knows what the kitchen looks like. I went to the bathroom and it was worse than a 76 station in downtown LA. Hope this place gets a new owner that actually cares for the place cause clearly this owner does not. We won't be back and will go to OSABI instead. 2 stars and not 1 only cause the food wasn't bad. read more

Benihana thrills without dropping Benihana bills. Yes, Benihana is probably the most famous teppanyaki restaurant in Southern Cali but it's quite busy, expensive, & a good distance from Ventura County, with the closest Benihana being 38 miles away in Encino. Is it worth driving that distance, then wait for a table and spend a pretty penny? Maybe sometimes, but there are decent closer options when time is limited and the cravings are there. Two spots in Oxnard for teppanyaki. I prefer Teppan Steak House. Nice spacious interior & high ceilings with Japanese style motif. At each teppan, you can seat 10 people comfortably. There is always a friendly greeting when we enter. Never had to wait long for a table, usually seated promptly. Kid friendly. Prices are standard for our area's teppanyakis. Love the fact that they support our local AYSO by giving 15% off entire bill to AYSO card carriers. The "shows" the chefs put on are entertaining. They seem to enjoy putting on a show and there is an continuous effort to improve the performances. My favorite here is the swordfish. Only place in Oxnard serving it... never had it cooked wrong so far, always soft & tender. Wifey has had mahi mahi & halibut, and both have been prepared to her liking. Steak, Grilled shrimp & chicken are the boys favorites. There is a difference in tenderness between the filet mignon and NY strip, with the filet, as it should be, the more tender one. The shrimp & chicken have been consistently juicy and tasty, You do pay extra for the fried rice (Yeah, makes you say, "Hmmm!?!") There is ample veggies that come with each meal. They do a good celebration here, too! 5 or 6 staff come... drums, tambourine, singing, and they light a sparkler on the dessert. Its nice! We don't come here for the sushi. Although my boys do consistently order the crunch roll or shrimp tempura roll. They enjoy those rolls here. Overall, a consistently good experience. We always leave content. We're definitely fans! To start off I want to state that the main reason for visiting this place was a groupon and some positive reviews I read. The groupon offer seemed pretty good so I said what the heck.. When we arrived at the restaurant I was confused as to where the door was, it is literally an unmarked door on the side, similar to those found in a sketchy L.A. back alley. Once we made our way inside, I immediately started to get a bad feeling.. It was a Saturday night and the place was pretty empty. I mean even the Olive Garden is packed on a Saturday night. With these red flags already in mind we proceeded to our table and so far it had been a pleasant experience. Even the waitress we got was nice and kindly explained what our groupon entailed. Once our food started coming out we started to see why this place was so empty. I mean really what kind of Japanese restaurant ruins a miso soup?!? The salad dressing was good so I still had hopes. Once the cook came out I immediately lost a bet with my wife.. She said we would be getting a Mexican cook, I said no he will probably be Asian, right? Wrong!! Not that it matters if you know how to cook. Unfortunately for us that was not the case... I won't go into detail on all of the food, there is no single thing he did that caused our dislike so I'll just summarize: Protein - Halibut, was like eating dry, over salted shredded chicken, I mean seriously who pours soy sauce on what looked like a beautiful cut of fish. It literally looked like scrambled eggs when he put it on my plate. The veggies - (or lack there of) is suppose to be the star of the teppan dish, but it turned out to be a very sad, over seasoned and burnt representation of what they call vegetables. Sadly to say frozen veggies heated in the microwave would have been better. The fried rice - another important part of the meal ruined by what seem to be an experienced cook, which is the impression he was giving out slicing and dicing away performing his onion volcano and even more ridiculous onion train. I mean c'mon it was only adults at the table, did he really have to do that?? Maybe if he had focused more on the cooking method that the entertaining antics, the food would have been edible. So after it was all over I told our waitress about our dislikes (in a polite way of course) and she spoke with the manager which also was very nice and offered us 20% off our next meal if we came back to try it with a different chef. Sadly to say I don't think I will be back. One bad experience is enough for me when it comes to food and when you order a meal like that and your favorite part of it was the free salad you get before the meal then there's not much a second visit is going to do for you. So lesson learned, just because its a good deal on yelp doesn't mean the food will be good or even edible!! I've been here various times. This week we went to lunch with my team and received the best service ever. Our server, Carolina was the best, she was friendly, attentive and fast. All the servers need to learn from her. The manager also made sure we were served and out within our hour of lunchtime. Food has always been good. Best Buy is the Gourmet Lunch special. My son got very sick not long after leaving. I called and spoke to Jen. She was sweet and said they would pay for him to go to the hospital. I called the hospital and explained his symptoms of vomiting and the other and they agreed that since he couldn't be off the toilet for more than five minutes, trying to get him there would be awful. They told me to keep him hydrated and to bring him if it did not subside within a few hours. It did subside within four hours. Jen said after reading my first review, they wanted me to come back for half off. I spent $140 for my kid to suffer a violent bout of food poisoning. (He had chicken. The rest of us had filet and seafood. Though we all felt yucky, he was the only one with actual food poisoning) I definitely will not return. We came here for a graduation night celebration. Food+service combined made this place a no-go. The food was ok for a hibachi steakhouse, none of the food stood out as very good-tasting. I did Not like any of their sauces...the white sauce was almost like a horseradish mixture. In general, I've had better an Benihana's or Sakura. Our cook was super entertaining and nice as well as our waitress. We wanted to give them our credit card to pay for the family ahead of time and the manager (I think) refused to give it to our waitress because they did not want to be liable (that's a first for me...usually restaurant would love to take the money). The waitress also said they couldn't do their usual sparkler & ice cream because since it was graduation night, if we asked, then everyone would want it, even though we offered to pay for it. read more

Waitress was very nice and had great timing with ordering/serving of drinks, miso soup & salad, but a cook did not come to our table til after 7pm. If we weren't with a party I would have left cash for the soup/salad and left as we were sitting around waiting for a long time. Food was ok ~ not bad but nothing special either. Location was not very busy but could tell they were short cooks. From 6pm reservation to 7pm actual cook start is unacceptable, especially when with babies/toddlers. We come maybe once a year for something "different" as their are not many Teppan style restaurants in the area. Every time we are disappointed and the last time we came our credit card was charged more than the amount we signed for and took 2 weeks for them to resolve even when they agreed it was their error (whole other story...). Valentine's Day this place was packed! Every table was full and I can only imagine what it was like at 6pm! We were there with a group of 8 and I was hungry! We started with sushi that was just ok. The rolls were on the large side and they were few cuts. That's fine, I'm sure this place isn't known for sushi. Our chef was quite funny though! When he was doing the rice demonstration he took suggestions on what to make the rice into. We had some anatomically correct body parts made of rice and that's all I have to say about that. I chose the chicken option with steamed rice. It was fine. There were a number of dipping sauces to have with the seafood, veggies and chicken. I enjoy the cooking demonstration and especially the onion volcano! The food was just ok. I was very hungry and that certainly added to the taste. Teppan Breakdown: The food: Just ok. It was heavy on the soy sauce. The value: quite pricey for what it really is. All entrees are around $15? seafood pushes you into the over $20 range? YIKES! The experience: It's fun if a little tacky, but that's ok! You know what you're expecting. The best part is that the chefs use bike horns to get the waitress attention if they need anything else. Waited about 40 minutes to be seated then waited another 15 to start the show. Show lacked any of the nice tricks other restaurants have. Overall the quality of this food was horrible especially b cause of the high premium prices they charged. I received dirty flatware and dishes twice. Staff seemed bothered when I pointed it out.
