I live right next to this restaurant and it is one of my favorites in Tucson. I would break down the rating of it like this: Breakfast - 5 stars (amazing huevos rancheros and chorizo) Dinner - 4 stars (great Mexican dishes but not my favorite in Tucson) Salsa - 4 stars (just average salsa, a little on the hot side) Tortillas - 5 stars (delicious and you get to see them being made. I took two friends to lunch today at Teresa's Mosaic Cafe and have to say, I left pretty disappointed. I ordered a #8 dinner and the actual plate size was 1/2 to 1/4 smaller than my two friends, not to mention the enchiladas were half the size of normal. I've eaten this here before and not had this issue (strange). My friends lunch came and it was wrong, but she didn't want say anything and have to wait for the correct food, we had already waited awhile. They only had one waitress working and she was clearly very busy. I certainly don't blame her, she was very pleasant and was doing the best she could. My Chips were salted by a ghost who died of dehydration. Yes they were covered in salt, and so was our soup. There was simply too much of this everywhere. I like this place because of the view over the city, the outdoor area is great for large groups and soon for those who can handle the cold/60 degrees F. My carne asada chimichanga was pretty food(its hard to mess up steak), but very oily on one side and it split, and made eating it very difficult. There was also no standard rice and beans with it so that was kind of a bummer. My lemonade was drowning in sugar, or some sweetener, it was bad. The service was good but not amazing, the prices were great but not the cheapest, and the food was just ok. We attended a group dinner for about 35 people last night, and the setting, food and staff were very good. Partner and I will very likely be back to try this restaurant in the more normal setting. We had the Machaca Tacos, Seafood Tacos, and my cousin had the Mole. We all really enjoyed our food. My fish tacos were much better than average with fresh fish slices (not breaded), traditional cabbage, fresh flour tortillas with a dollop of good guacamole. I would have preferred the guac on the side, but I devoured the tacos in say, 4 minutes. Partner and cousin raved about the beans, which mattered to me, because we 3 grew up eating a lot of them, so I trust their opinion. They ate them too fast to let me try them, unfortunately (for me). Partner is a tortilla wonk, so he admitted he probably watched the tortilla maker make tortillas for a good two minutes. Our service was surprisingly good for the amount of people in our party. The entree deliveries and special requests were delivered in a timely manner, although we had to go to the bar ourselves to get our alcoholic drinks. Admittedly, it was a tight situation, space-wise. The restaurant is nice, much larger than I expected with a nice view, but access to it is a little difficult because of the road construction right now. We usually look for a signature dish or two that sets a restaurant apart, but we didn't have a chance (hectic family function) to really go over the menu. I did spot Alfred's Plate, but it seemed like a LOT of food, so I passed for this visit. Had juevos rancheros over medium. it was actually quite delicious. I was still hungry though so if you're looking to get full off this item you won't ( if you're a full grown man who works his ass off outside in the Sun every day you won't get full off this item) but the flavor was very good. also the salsa that they made is really really good. it has the right amount of heat and the right amount of flavor. I have always liked the food and service at Teresa's Mosaic Cafe. It is kind of hidden behind a McDonald's, but the problem is that I rarely was on that side of town, as I live near Sabino Canyon. The last time I was in, I stupidly left my purse. Not only was everything in my purse and it was returned to me, but when I almost insisted on giving them a reward - they absolutely would not take the reward money! So now, my BF has just bought me my DREAM HOME - high in the hills near Anklam and Speedway and I suddenly realized yesterday that Teresa's would be one of our CLOSEST RESTAURANTS!!! I am THRILLED! Teresa's used to be the place you go to get home-style family food, with friendly service. Not sure when it changed, but since when do you go into a Mexican restaurant and not get served chips and salsa? And those friendly servers of the past are gone too. Water glasses were left empty. I have been going to this place for over 15 years. My last visit was completely disappointing . I ordered the cheese enchiladas #4, and in the past it was a large plate with lettuce beans and rice and a full meal -! Yes his time it was half of what used to be served, very light on the cheese barely any rice , same with lettuce , it was as though they cut the order in half but kept the same 11$ price ! We have enjoyed eating here on many occasions over the past 18 years. Had out of town visitors, and wanted to treat them to a good Oaxacan meal and a nice venue. As usual, except for having only crappy Mexican beers on tap, the food was as very good. However, it was the service that was bizarre this time; We had called two days prior for reservations and were told they didn't take reservations. Odd, because we knew we had made them in the past, and Yelp says they do. When we arrived we told the hostess that we were sorry, because we know they only have a few large tables and we were going to be six people. Also, that we tried to make reservations, but couldn't, even though we thought we had in the past and Yelp still says you do. She said " I don't know anything about reservations" and told us to wait for the rest of our group. While waiting for the rest of our party, a group of three came in, said their name and said "we have reservations". She said OK and seated them immediately. Came back to us and said when your final two arrive you can sit at this six top by the front door. I asked what about the empty six top, actually in the restaurant proper, by the window, so our guests could enjoy the view. She said "No, that table is reserved". Reserved ??? I said "I thought you didn't take reservations, which is it" She bolted into the kitchen to talk to somebody there. Came back and repeated in a snippy tone "I don't know anything about reservations" When the employee she had apparently been talking to came out behind her to fry up some tortillas, I asked again about whether or not they take reservations. Her answer was "Some days we do and others we don't . Depends on the staffing" ? I said I was curious because the people behind us said they had reservations and were seated immediately. She said "I know , and they weren't even on the list". List??, like a reservations list??? At this point I just gave up trying to understand. We had a pleasant meal with our friends anyway and nobody ever did show up for the "reserved" six top in the restaurant, by the window. PS. What happened to the usual chips and salsa. Now, I didn't see the episode of Throwdown that featured Teresa's Mosaic Cafe but I can only assume that Bobby Flay was forced to retire from cooking after tasting how good the huevos rancheros is here. I know it seems a little too obvious to go here and get huevos rancheros but just do it. Get them, enjoy them, and then come back and get something else. I'm sure the rest of the menu is just as great. My only real hangup with this particular visit was the wait. It was extremely busy when my friends and I went, so it took a while to even find a hostess in the sea of people waiting in the entrance to the restaurant. Once we did, we were told "about 20 minutes" (the hostess didn't sound too sure herself) which wound up being close to 35, and then the wait to get a waitress to take our order was at least another 10. Not horrible at all considering the amount of people but just be prepared to wait a bit if going on a weekend. Very pretty place with a nice view. Has the Chicken Mole, was tender and delicious, and a cup of Cazuela soup, shredded beef, chiles and potatoes, very tasty. My wife had a salad topped with shredded beef, was dry and tasteless. I usually skip tortillas to avoid the carbs but they are made fresh to order and slightly charred and delicious. I need to update my review after finally returning and truly enjoying the food and everything. Three of us came in nursing mean hangovers. We were quickly seated and had some micheladas or coffee and Bailey's in front of us in no time. Although we were in too much pain to sit and enjoy this place for too long, we definitely had a great breakfast and service was friendlier and faster than I remembered in the past. I've been coming to this for a while. I stick with the enchiladas. It's the dish that has not failed me at this place. I can't say it's the best but it's good The horchata is okay. I had the cheese crisps with chorizo. It was pretty good. Surprised how good cheese and chorizo combo is. I would give this place 3.5 if I could but I average it out. The food is fantastic. It's definitely pricey, but well worth it. I had a lovely soup made of beef and potatoes (wish I could remember the name). My mom had been raving about this place so I finally went with her. The handmade tortillas are awesome - and they make them right there in front of you so you can see how it's done. Mosaic Cafe is a classic among the office. We have a mix of food allergies and food preferences among our team and Mosaic is one of the few places where we can all enjoy a nice meal. The place is adorable and with the recent expansion it is much easier to get in and out within the hour lunch break. Plus, they split tickets! Couple things you have to try...the tortillas and the coffee! The tortillas are made in house and are delicious. Make sure to order your meal with the scrumptious treats you will not be disappointed. Second thing is the coffee, I know it sounds weird but they actually have a special type of coffee that they bring in. The restaurant is a little small, but they do offer out door seating and have a nice view. Each table is made with a tile masaic on top. I have gone for breakfast and lunch. Breakfast is good with their homemade beans. Tortillas are being made right in front of you if you are sitting inside. My favorite dish is the chicken tacos with the hard shell and Horchata to drink :) The salsa is very good as well. You can ask for a mild sauce if you need. Located up on a hill, this place has a great atmosphere and food to match. Keeping with the name each table has its own moasic themed top. The mole is one of my personal favorites here, so if you are a fan, don't pass it up. One a cold night their soups are great. To top it off, the tortaillas are made fresh on site. Hubby prefers the machaca or teh mini chimis. Both tastey options. We recently tried teh breakfast. Its pretty good, but not as good as the dinners. read more

So today was my Mother's 95th birthday and we booked their banquet room. They only serve breakfast until noon on the weekends so we had to wait 30 minutes to get the lunch menu then another 15 minutes till the 1 server they had assigned us to take our order. Then they brought the food out with that same 1 waiter. By the time everybody had their food the first ones to be served had cold food. It's pricey, $10 for 2 ground beef tacos with rice and beans. A friend of mine heard from a few of his friends that this was the best Mexican food restaurant in town. Since I would consider myself a Mexican food connoisseur I figured I would try it out since I was in the area for work. I put the address in my GPS and had I not read the reviews on yelp first, I probably would've gotten lost since the GPS took me in a different direction. You really can't miss this place during the day as it looks like a bright green spaceship on top of a hill behind McDonald's. After dark could be a different story... I went around 2:30 in the afternoon so I was in and out in a reasonable amount of time. The tortilla lady wasn't at her stand this afternoon so I just focused on the decor of the restaurant. It has typical Mexican flare with bright colors in the streamers across the ceiling and detailed wooden chairs. The tables were pretty with mosaic patterns. The server brought me my Jamaica (hibiscus tea), chips and salsa with in a matter of minutes. The chips were crispy and you could tell that they were fresh and the salsa had some kick to it which I like. Usually I will judge a Mexican restaurant based upon my favorite food - enchiladas. Today I decided to try something out of my element and go with the Tacos Lomo (pork). I got three tacos with flour tortillas filled with the lomo pork and topped with cabbage. I added guacamole, squeezed lemon, and pico de gallo on mine for additional flavor. My mouth watered as I took my first bite and I was disappointed as I started chewing. The pork was overcooked and dry and there was too much cabbage. Had it not been for the quality of the tortilla and pico de gallo I would've given this place once star. The refried beans were okay but I've definitely had better Mexican food else where. Overall, the service was good and I liked that there was a lot of choices on the menu to fit every palate. Would I return or recommend it to friends? I would not personally come back but I am a firm believer that you should try something yourself before writing it off. read more

Was in town for business and a colleague brought me here for lunch. If you're in Tucson and want good food COME HERE!! Machaca melts in your mouth. Homemade tortillas are awesome. Tamales have amazing flavor and masa isn't mushy. Was introduced to a great accompaniment called calabacitas. I've had Mexican food all over the West & Southwest but this was my first time trying this dish. They're awesome. I was in town for a couple of days and made a point of coming to TMC after seeing featured on "Throwdown" with Bobby Flay. On a Saturday morning I went in and had their famous huevos rancheros, and I can't imagine how they lost--they were the best I've had. The eggs were cooked just right and the salsa was excellent. I scarfed it down in record time. The homemade corn and flour tortillas (I requested both) were just like my mom used to make (and she's the real deal, a latina.) Breakfast #2 was chorizo with scrambled eggs, another winner. I love good chorizo and this filled the bill. It being a Sunday, the place was busy but there was no wait to be seated and service was good. Prompt, full coffees always and a very reasonable wait for great food. Service was attentive and friendly. The server brought us chips and dip, the chips were very stale. We ordered some drinks, I asked for no salt on my margarita but it came salted. We ordered our food and it arrived in under 4 minutes from when we ordered it. The server said "so quick, great right?!" I though not really...I am not at McDonalds (that's next door) The food was awful for $12.50, I got 2 bean tostadas with guacamole, of which there was less than a tablespoon of smashed avocado not guacmole. The lettuce was piled high, shredded thinly and very wet. The food was not good...my friend had to send hers back as she was given the incorrect item. Over priced, over cooked and micro-waved food. One of my favorite restaurants in town. You can't beat the view if you go to the West Side location. I agree the service can vary from time to time but overall you just can't go wrong. The food was very good and everything seemed to be clean. I used the restroom before we left and it was spotless and this was around 2:00 PM just after the lunch crowd. We had heard amazing things about this restaurant, so I wanted to go. Our family of five waited probably 10 minutes before we were even greeted at the door, as the waitresses walked by us several time without even a glance. Strange because of most restaurants, they will at least greet you, There were empty tables, and we finally got seated but the redheaded waitress was very cold ...it didn't seem like she wanted to serve us at all. The worst part was we saw all the people coming in after us and they waited probably 20 minutes to get seated. Food was fairly good, but I definitely say a tad overpriced. We were just shocked because every restaurant that is owned by Mexicans in Wisconsin, the service is absolutely amazing. this was way below our expectations. read more
