The owner is honest and even took the time diagnosis the root issue with the cars we have taken in instead just seeing the small issues.

I was turned on to this mechanic by coworkers, mostly female. Our company has a Fleet Manager who maintains our co. vehicles mostly by himself, but as needed goes to Terry's. Good referral right there. As I've needed repairs and maintenance done, big and small, I ask around as to who goes where. The ladies at the office all go to Terry's with confidence! I've always found it intimidating (being a not-mechanically inclined female) going to a repair place and being at the mercy of whatever they told me I needed. Twice I have taken 2 different cars to other places, gotten a quote, stating I'd have to check finances and get back to them. Went to Terry's and one time the problem was not what the other place told me, and the other time Terry's was 1/2 the price. Totally confident with them - not going anywhere else. One more thing - the extra mile. I took my car in for an oil change this week and picked it up about noon. Later in the day I took a break to run an errand and when I got back in the car, I couldn't get my key to turn. I called and talked to Matt, told him the situation and that I wondered if I got towed to their shop if it was something they could fix or did I need to take it to the dealer (I was thinking my ignition was shot). He asked where I was, I was less than a mile away, so he told me to hold on and he'd be RIGHT OVER!!! Who does that?!?! Good, ol' plain ol' great service shops with GREAT customer service still do!! My key was worn out by the way, he got my car started, suggested I use my spare and get a new spare made off of my spare. Done. I can't say enough good things about this place and their performance and customer service. read more

Really honest guys here. We don't live in the area, so when we needed our car serviced, we called and the guy that answered the phone told us to check the warranty with the dealer first. What mechanic does that? Turns out it was covered, but we needed my mom's car checked to make sure it was drivable. They checked it, gave it the ok to go, made their recommendations for our mechanic up in LA, again honest and wonderful service. The rating of one star might even be over doing it. I would NEVER go back here again. I was referred by a long time client of Terry's who has also spent thousands of dollars on auto repair. Long story short, my friend took me down to Terry's to pick up my truck. They pulled out my truck and parked it in front of the office, meanwhile a woman was pulling out of a parking space along the back. She was obviously not looking as she backed out of the parking spot and she backed right into the front end of my truck. My first thought was, "Accidents happen...that's why they call them accidents. No big deal." However, this woman comes out of her "mom van" screaming at me (while her child climbed out of the passenger side of her van and watched this whole disgusting confrontation) that it was my fault that she backed into my truck, that she didn't do anything wrong, that she didn't cause any damage, and that I "better not get attitude with her." She was a pretty large woman and quite honestly I would have needed some heavy artillery to "get attitude with her." What made it even worse was that TERRY came running out of the shop (after not seeing a thing) at her defense claiming that the damage to my truck was already there, and that he could fix the bumper hanging of with a simple zip tie, which he went running back into the shop to retrieve. (she was obviously another one of his "favorite" customers who had spent MUCH more money that I during the past years) My truck DID in fact already have some damage to the front end, but scary mom in the van contributed to even more. I had a final in Speech class minutes later and didn't feel that calling the police would be to my benefit, especially since this crazy lady and her knight in shining armor, TERRY would have their word against mine. This happened about two years ago and as you can see, I have not forgotten about the way I was treated. I feel like you should all know that if you go here, you'll over pay and not only that but unless you've been over paying for years and years, you won't be treated with any respect. They didn't even do that great of fixing what I brought it in for and they were supposed to reattach my rearview mirror, which they half-assed glued to the wrong piece of the base stuck to my windshield. I knew I should have just done it myself because after that it was forever ruined. Happy auto repair shopping. I was personally referred to Terry's by a friend, and have had a couple good experiences: they offer great customer service (personal, friendly, seem genuine & honest, don't make you feel rushed, don't tack on hidden fees, and explain problems in depth), their prices are reasonable, and their location is in a good spot as well (you can walk in downtown Fullerton/ get a bite to eat nearby). I have been coming to Terry's Automotive for over 8 years. Now living in Corona, I still find myself going to Matt and his team here at Terry's Automotive for any automotive service. I am always confident that they will provide the Best and HONEST service possible. Never have I ever been talked down too or disrespected. I find it hard to believe when I read other Yelpers on their own bad experiences. (Sad to read!) They even fixed a window that came off the rollers without a charge. I had heard from other people that Terry's was a great place to have your vehicle serviced, but after my first experience with them, I will never go back. I am not super savvy when it comes to auto mechanics, but I am not an idiot either. I took my Jeep in to get it serviced because it wouldn't start. I thought it was an electrical issue because fuel was getting to my engine, but it would just crank over, but not ignite. So I had the car towed to Terry's thinking they were a great local mechanic based on the reviews I have heard. However, I was wrong. I had them run a diagnostic on the vehicle, but they way I was treated by one of their service reps was horrible. He treated me terribly and made me feel dumb. For some reason, the anti-theft was engaged on the car when it had arrived at his shop and he made me feel like it was my fault and that he was working on a stolen vehicle. I don't a lot about that, but that is no way to speak to a customer. He was very rude the way he spoke to me and said I had to get a spare key to reset it. The next day, I bring in the key, and they were able to reset it and run a diagnostic to figure out why the car wouldn't start. it turned out that my crank shaft position sensor had gone out. He calls me at work and says it would cost $350 to fix it. Immediately, I was surprised by how much he was quoting. Like I said, I am not super savvy when it comes to auto repair, but I know enough to know when prices like that don't feel right. I had a gut feeling that that was extremely high so I immediately did some research and I am glad I did. It turned out that the average cost for the part was around $50-60. I called him back and asked him why he was charging so much. He said the part was $180. I called him out on it and said that is shouldn't be that much. He said they only get the best parts and don't do any knock offs. At that point, I knew he was lying to me and didn't trust him anymore. I can't believe how unprofessional and shady he was. It is one thing to make a honest mistake, but when you come out and boldly lie to a customer about something that is a totally different story. I told him to not work on the vehicle and that I would have it towed to a different mechanic. I am very happy I did. It turned out that I was right. The part was in fact around $60 and I was able to get the problem fixed for only $150. That is less than half for what I would have paid for Terry's to fix it. I will never go here again after such unprofessional and unethical business standards. I can't believe people can be this rude and try to price gouge first time customers. It shows that it only takes one person to destroy the reputation of a great company. I am sure there are plenty of great honest people there, but the guy I worked with was not one of them. It was time for our 100K mile service and saved a bunch of money having Terry do the work. We recently had Toyota do recall work for air bag and they gave us estimate of needed work. Terry informed us some of that was not at all necessary. Very honest and helpful in explaining everything. Free drop off at home and pickup when our car was ready. I went in to get a new battery installed, wipers, air filter, oil change and fluids checked/change. Everything was done well. I do have to knock this review down 1-star though as the front office was a little chaotic in that they kept missing their own deadlines for when the work on my car would be finished. I don't typically write reviews, but let me tell you about this shop. The first time I went to this shop was in 1991. I was coming home from work and my car started overheating it was 5:15pm and had no idea who to call. stopped at a pay phone(some of you may not know what that is) looked in a phonebook and called the closest mechanic to me, Terrys Automotive. I told the gentleman who answered the phone that my car was overheating and he said I close @ 5:30pm, but I'll wait till you get here. I pulled in at 5:29pm he was just finishing checking out a customer, then he came to help me. I told him that the thermostat was completely redline. He said let me look at it. With in 15 minutes he came back and said your good to go. I asked what was wrong he said just a stuck thermostat, gave it a couple good taps and it was all fixed. I thanked him for waiting and asked what I owed, he said I didn't do anything but tap the housing with a screwdriver, so don't worry about it. I said you waited and stayed open I have to pay you something. He said the next time you need service remember me. I have for now over 27 years. Over the years I've had every vehicle we own serviced at this shop. I have seen on many occasions where Terry and Matt have always done the right thing when it came to our cars. We had a Lincoln Navigator that was getting up there in miles. We were visiting friends in Huntington Beach and the SUV started running really bad. So I took it to the nearest Lincoln Dealer. They looked at the car and said that the last spark plug in the block blew out and stripped the threaded hole. In order to fix it they would have to pull the motor and it would cost $6000. I though that was BS you don't have to pull a motor to tap a port. I called Terry and asked and he said if you fix it at the dealer they have to pull the motor to get to the last port, he said it was a lousy design, I agreed. He said have it towed her and he could fix it. He developed a tool to do this job without pulling the motor. My repair went from $6000 to $450! I have had several cars over the last 27years and nobody touches them except Terrys Automotive. read more

We've been taking our cars to Terry's Automotive since the 1990's and I wouldn't go anywhere else. They were recommended by a family member in the automotive business who knows good service when they see it. Matt and Terry are very knowledgable and honest. They explain what they are fixing and why it needs to be fixed. I have never had them add extra fees or try to pressure me into buying or fixing something that was not necessary. Yes, there are days when they are very busy and might seem a little short, but I totally understand in this business there will be those days. They have NEVER been rude to me or my family. Sometimes they have even made accomodations when they are visibly extremely busy. Just like a good doctor or dentist, it's hard to find honest business people nowadays that are keepers. I have taken my truck here and was extremely happy with my service. that first experience, where they told me how I could do what I needed to do myself and saved me money proved to me that I had an honest mechanic. This time I brought in my car. My brakes had ground metal to metal. I needed new rotors and pads. I work the same hours as the shop and I work in Irvine but like before, Matt and his Dad were willing to work with me to get the job done and my car back to me. I could not be happier. I took my 2005 Honda Odyssy in for 65,000 miles service plus brake job. Prior to this my husband called the Honda Dealership service department and was quoted for $600.00 (not including brake service). Terry's Automotive quoted us 350.00 dollars less than the dealership. When the car was done, the final price was even 50.00 less than it was origally quoted for. They even shuttled me (and my 2 year old son)back and fourth to drop and pick up my car. my 25 year old car failed smog. Took it to Terrys automotive for a pre smog check out. said it needed some sort of evaporative canister (200.00) installed and a cat converter (400.00) installed. They had to look for the evap. canister, i guess there hard to find and they dont produce them anymore.Found it and installed it. Took it to the smog dude and told him about the evap canister and cat converter being installed and he said we dont test the evap. canister anylonger on this vehicle It is an obsolete part. i love terry's automotive, he knows how to cook a duck!!!! ive gone there for 10 years and know terry and asked him about this story. sounds to me like the biker chick with the banged up truck probably didnt have any way to pay for her crashed truck and was looking for a free fix. terrys only regret was that he got between two squaking hens and took heat from not just the biker chick with the already crashed truck, but the fat-mama who was a regular customer. moral to this story is let the hair fly and remember that no good deed goes unpunished!!!! dont try to save customers from themselves. read more
