Came back here again. This time my palette was not overwhelmed after stopping at some other chocolate places before this one. I had the dark chocolate truffle and the dark chocolate butter crunch. They also give me a free sample of the dark chocolate ganache (thank you!). All three were pretty average. My wife's dark chocolate champaign was probably the best, but I cannot say that I am in a hurry to come back with the other chocolate options in SF. Just discovered this spot through a friend. I'm a huge fan of chocolate and after visiting Switzerland in January, I've been hooked on Swiss chocolates. We were able to try a piece of the champagne truffle. I bought a pre-packaged gift box of chocolates for $31.50. When I took it back home, I realized there was a loose hair in the box. Luckily I was able to bring it back to the store while it was still open and see if I could exchange it, but I found it a little surprising to pay this much for the gift box only to find hair in there. Hoping the new one I grabbed doesn't have the same fate. read more

They have a great selection of truffles and marzipans, of which my favorites are their signature champagne truffles, Bailey's truffles, and extra butter truffles. Looking for a new chocolate treat, I happened upon Teuscher Chocolate & thought.....Swiss chocolate?! Can't go wrong there! ( I am brilliant like that ) Indulged in their Champagne Truffle & WOW....wish I had bought more than one!! Dark chocolate & the champagne pair so well together - this will be a "regular" Amaretti Cookies - so fudgy & creamy, they were more like truffles instead of cookies. Just a little puff of a cookie on top of a dense, ganache / amaretto filling. Amaretto was really strong upon 1st bite but settled in nicely afterwards & it was all kinds of good Milk & Dark Chocolate Covered Apricots - these were good but maybe the least fav of our stash - as reported by Sis b/c I am a purist & don't mix fruit w/ my chocolate * SHE * is the Apricot connoisseur of the family & absolutely loves these things & here is her assessment. When my mom introduced me to their champagne truffles many moons ago it was the first time chocolate better than Hershey's passed my lips. So was the beginning of my chocolate love affair. I would have been happy to go through a ton of those truffles but there is also something very sweet and satisfying about coming out of that adorable little store with a tiny clear bag holding one or two treats. I stopped by today for the sake of nostalgia and was very impressed with the honey caramel that I got in addition to my champagne truffle. And that champagne truffle, yup, still gets me. After visiting Ghirardelli and almost vomiting from their new peanut butter milk chocolate I was scared of the chocolate in San Francisco. Than I visited Recchiuti Confections and tasted their delicious S'mores, I thought OK San Francisco chocolate has redeemed itself. But than I made the mistake of visiting Chocolate on Castro and tasted their stale old chocolate I was confused, does San Francisco have good chocolate shops or not? I'm happy to report that it does. Besides Recchiuti's San Francisco is also lucky enough to have Teuscher Chocolates which brought me back to my chocolate happy place. I found out that Teuscher chocolates are all Swiss, made in Zurich and flown directly to the store, well the airport than delivered to the store. The last time I had Swiss chocolate this good was, duh, when I was in Switzerland and Teuscher kind of brought me back to the time I spent in Basle walking the streets eating amazingly melt in your mouth chocolates and flirting with cute boys with accents, good times I tell you, good times. Unfortunately no cute boys with accents here just those who like to sniff and pet. Anyways I tried their famous dark chocolate champagne truffle, and three other dark chocolate truffles all were A++ fantastic! Would definitely eat again and again and again! I also picked up two chocolate bars to bring home, the dark chocolate of course and the pink pepper, I'm nibbling on the dark chocolate one now haven't touched the pink pepper yet but the dark chocolate one is just as good as the dark chocolate truffles. Finite yet Sweet Tendencies I'm writing this, between bites of a smooth milk chocolate truffle from Astor Chocolate ( http://www.astorchocolate.com/ ) brought straight in from Vegas. Chocolate has always been somewhat of an elusive shift of preferential treatments ever since I was growing up in a traditional Japanese home where sweets were unheard of. My occasional swipes at experiencing these delights were rather sporadic, at school and at the mercy of sympathizing friends. Then came adulthood, where several holidays would find me in receipt of strange shaped boxes holding different brands of chocolates: See's, Scharffenberger, Godiva, just to name a generic few. My favorites, were the multi-textured yet well balanced mixes of nuts, caramel and chocolate. Along with age, like a fine wine, come discerning tastes as well as the astute provider of fine chocolates or someone who is quite eager in making an impression. This would have been in the cutie bow tied secrets by La Maison. I must have been the finicky recipient of these embellishments, because most of the time, they went uneaten. The two boxes of chocolate dipped strawberries accidentally rot because I forgot about them at my desk years ago. Teuscher has since diminished my fears in regards to whatever comes tied with such sweet connotations and lurid objectives because nowadays, rather than worry about consumption, it is within the tinier details of these impeccable creations of sweet nothingness that brings me closer to the window displays. Their vivid and lavish window displays is truly the main reason why I am drawn closer here. Fine confections done with attention to detail. You are not just consuming chocolate. You are consuming art done in the form of chocolate as a medium. My personal favorite is the dark chocolate Champagne truffles and white truffle. In addition, sometimes I'll opt for something more exotic to my taste buds, such as the Jasmine Tea or the Kirsch. This place is a fat ass waiting to happen. We stopped by the other day so that I could decide for myself if Teuscher really is all that. It is. Well, the chocolate is anyway. The staff there is surprisingly unenthusiastic considering they are SURROUNDED BY MOUTH-WATERING CHOCOLATE ALL DAY LONG. The decor in there is like a Laura Ashley catalog that went terribly wrong and then exploded. We got and loved: Buttercrunch Truffle Dark Truffle (my personal fave) Champagne Truffle $2 a piece for chocolate is pricey for sures, but how much chocolate do we really want to be eating anyway? I myself am perilously close to developing a second chin. If it weren't for the exorbitant price, I'd have a piece of Teuscher truffle in my mouth at all times. read more

Simply put, what a disappointment! I'm a chocolate-phile. I have spent years training my taste buds with Sharffen Berger, Joseph Schmidt, Godiva, Valhrona, and many others...so I was very excited to try this brand, since it was new to me. The shop is cluttered, has waaaay too many pre-packaged kitchy-not-cute items, and the women behind the counter didn't really seem interested in helping us (one of them was on the phone chatting casually with a friend). I inquired as to their pricing: over $60/lb!!! I gulped. That's rather expensive! So, given that price range, I figured these better be reeeeally good chocolates. My partner and I selected three chocolates to try and share, just to give ourselves a sample. Those three TINY (and I mean miniscule!) chocolates ran us $5.50!! So we sat down to try them: first, the most basic, the chocolate I always get to measure a brand's worth: dark chocolate filled with dark chocolate ganache. I was surprised to find a really mediocre, starchy texture with a bland flavor. If I felt more qualified to make such a judgement, I'd guess this chocolate wasn't particularly fresh! Then the next one: chocolate with sea salt. Again, bland and starchy, and the sea salt was apparently only on top as a garnish...but had come off in the bag they'd tossed the chocolate into! If they're going to have such a delicate bonbon, they should have an appropriately delicate packaging system to ensure that the customer who spent $5.50 on three microscopic chocolates gets their full money's worth! And finally, Dark chocolate with meyer lemon filling. The filling was a huge let-down: tart and overly sweet at the same time, tasted like a lemon life-saver!! THAT'S downright SAD!! Even Godiva does it much better! This place is like so many other fussy chocolatiers popping up these days: over-priced, over-rated, and downright mediocre. Just because you CAN charge that much for poor-quality chocolate doesn't mean you should. And just because something is expensive, doesn't mean it's good (Harry and David's is another good example of this). This place is a clip joint. I am pretty sure the only reason they continue to get business is because they are in the financial district, and get orders to send gift baskets to corporate types nearby because it's convenient, not because they're good. Any place that tries so hard to be a status symbol should be a little suspect, and in this case, it turns out they just don't pass muster. If you want chocolates that are better than this, swallow your pride, take yourself to Macy's Cellar, and go to the Godiva counter. You'll get better quality chocolate bonbons and truffles for a much more reasonable price! read more

Don't you hate it when you've consumed alot of calories for something that didn't even taste that good and you wish you hadn't. Well, you'll have no such regret if you stick to TeUscher Dark Chocolate Champagne Truffles. ohhhhhh it's so soooooooooo so so so sooooooooooooooo so good. I also like the little candy animals for cake decoration. All my bday cakes when I was little had these animals on them. Don't eat them though because its too cute. 3.5 stars. the champagne truffles are fantastic and worth every penny. i also think they make the best jordan almonds you can find. (yes i am under 70 and love me some jordan almonds) however, three times at this location i have come and spent WAY too much money on stale assorted chocolates. with prices akin to what you'd pay for a pound of heroin, for chocolate you would think they'd at least get the quality control down a little better. i can't tell you what a bitch it is to spend $20.00 on 4 chocolates all the while fighting a raging case of PMS, just to bite into a stale praline. last time i ended up eating half a bag of freezer burned chocolate chips instead, cursing teuscher the whole way through. i have better luck with the stanford location. if you are looking for something other then champagne truffles, i would highly recommend richart chocolates instead, which is about two minutes up the street. read more

This is IT! I could remember being at this very chocolate boutique close to 10 years ago... I remember who I was with, what I was wearing & most importantly what I was tasting and thinking... OH MY GAWWWWWD!!! as I bit into their signature Champagne truffle (made with Dom Perignon) not expecting anything too special, and it was serious heaven on earth. The three of us were completely at a loss for words... standing on the middle of the sidewalk. Jeez Louise am I glad I live over 100 miles away from this place otherwise I'd be spending my entire paycheck on this place like some crack addict. Goddamn are the champagne truffles totally worth the regrets my health conscious mind will punish myself with later. On the outside, the truffles look small and unassuming. They're dusted in cocoa powder and not flashy at all like Ethel's or CocoaBella but one bite and all of a sudden, POW BAM ZOOM goes the taste buds. There's an interesting mouthfeel with their truffles and the champagne complements the texture of the chocolates in a way I never thought possible. I shared some of the truffles with co-workers and it sparked a mini riot amongst them until the last of the truffles were eaten. My husband and I had an agreement that we would not be purchasing anything for each other for V-Day, "We're just going out to dinner, ok?", I said. "Ok", he said. V-Day rolls around and I notice a suspicious withdrawal from husband's savings/weekly allowance account, at a Fillmore Street location....Hmmmm......Oh NO! I think he went to Bittersweet! I think he picked me up some of my favorite chocolates, Vosages! Oh no! He broke the agreement! Now I have to break the agreement too! I head over to Teuscher's on Sutter. My sister had said great things about them, and this would be the perfect opportunity/excuse for me to find out! The shop itself is small, and crazily decorated, as mentioned in other reviews. It's like a JoAnn's Fabric store threw up in there: lots of fabric flowers, ribbons, craftiness, etc. The employees were very helpful and attentive. I ended up buying champagne truffles and chewy caramels. They put them all in a cute red box with ribbons with hearts on them. Gave them to husband. He liked! We both liked! I eat chocolates. I love chocolates...but damn, CHAMPAGNE TRUFFLE is the best chocolate I have ever tasted!! You know its good chocolates when you eat half of the truffle and 7 seconds later, the taste begins to transparently linger and all of a sudden, it disappears; leaving you desiring for more. So I'm in San Fran for the weekend, and I tell the boyfriend we need to get a Ghirardelli sundae. This was an old past time of my family's on our yearly tourist trips to SF. Little did I know as a child that tourist stuff usually sucks. But I still held those sundaes in a childish esteem. So I'm looking up the location on my yelp app ... and I'm saddened to see what poor reviews the sundaes are getting. These sundaes are awesome! What's wrong with people? What kind of chocolate do these people like anyway? So I look at a review of something nearby ... Teuscher Chocolate ... probably some snobby crap. Only, I'm reading the review and it sounds heavenly. People are acting as though this chocolate is practically orgasm-inducing. And it is. The truth of it is, it really is. My favourite was the dark chocolate truffle. Eating their truffles is like suspending in time. I'm not even some huge chocolate nut either (case-in-point, I like Ghirardelli) -- this is NOTHING like Ghirardelli. Ghirardelli is the Denny's of chocolate in comparison to this. Sees is the fucking 7-11. The little truffles might be pricey, but you really don't need more than one to fill your craving and more than a couple to feel completely indulged. They're so heavy that if you eat more than a couple, you'll be sick. But seriously, eat with caution. It's the kind of chocolate that stays in your mind, beckoning you back. First, let me say that this Teuscher store in San Francisco has been one of my favorite places to visit whenever I'm in the city. No question that I LOVE the chocolates, LOVE the hazelnut variations and yes the Champagne Truffles are yummy. Yes, it is a bit pricey but the chocolates never disappoint. I have always been greeted with a warm and friendly smile at the San Francisco store. I even prefer this store over the more local Beverly Hills location because BH has snooty servers with an attitude! Well, has the snooty attitude finally infected the San Francisco store as well??? During my last visit a couple weeks ago, I was helped (barely) by someone who was just bored and disinterested in helping. No warm friendly greeting that I've been used to in the past. Temporary help, maybe? Poor service always ruins a purchase experience, no matter how good the products are. Hope they hire better staff in time for my next visit. One of the people working behind the counter was a smashingly pretty and cute woman with a lovely soft voice and graceful hands. Christ, I wanted to tell her just how perfect she was. Wow!.. When I walked in here with a friend that swore by this place, I thought there is NO WAY chocolates could be worth that much. They are literally worth more than their weight in gold. However, after purchasing a few truffles and downing them, you could taste every cent. For years I have been coming here for high quality chocolate. It is pricey, but worth it. The staff is always nice at this location. There are sugar free options as well and seasonal drinks available. The chili and macadamia bars are a fave. There is one in Portland, OR as well. I love it soo much that its part of my breakfast routine :-) So a co-worker found out what a chocolate sch-nob I am and suggested we go to Teuscher's one day after lunch-she knew of their 99% dark chocolate bar. I was in for a treat! So after a minute of entering the brightly decorated shop, there I was, light-headed and giddy with the smells and sight of the fanciful selection, a BIG grin on my face! It also happened to be a birthday of a friend of mine, so it was great to have an excuse to buy a selection, and include a few for myself(because being a gemini I can't always make up my mind!). And a warning to you: the champagne dark chocolate truffles are tres dangereux! Some things people should know about this place: - Ingredients are TOP (take a look at the list of ingredients in the champagne truffles... Dom Perignon!), so expect high prices. - Everything comes from Switzerland, and these are definitely Swiss-style chocolates, so don't be shocked if you don't see peanut butter patties. - The company's been around for a long time, and I don't think they're trying to compete with the likes of nouveau chocolatiers the likes of CocoaBella, Fran's, Poco Dolce, or Recchiuti. That being said, I can't help but give a bit of criticism toward the reviewers here that try to compare these chocolates to the other chocolate makers I mentioned above. The best comparison I can make is that it's kind of like only ever having had Chicago deep-dish pizza and then one day going to Italy and thinking Italian pizza is inferior. One isn't necessarily better than the other--they're just different! If I want a caramel with smoked Himalayan sea salt, I'm not going to go to Teuscher. But I WILL go there when I want a champagne truffle! (Which is basically all the time). What I love about Teuscher is that the chocolate is the same regardless of what shop you go to. My family is Swiss, and we grew up eating these. From Zurich to Beverly Hills, I can get a little taste of my childhood no matter which Teuscher I walk into. I just wish that SF had the little coffee shop that BH does! Nothing is quite like a Teuscher hot chocolate and mochas... But I digress... The chocolates that they have here are mostly classic European flavors. I don't mean that they have a limited selection, but you'll see a lot of liquor-spiked ganaches and marzipan. If you've ever walked into a chocolate shop in Europe, you'll see very similar flavors and styles here. And everything is delicious!
