My obession with TCT starts at the Farmers Market downtown. $1 for the best coffee in town, at my favorite place in town... life is good. Today I went to the actual roasting warehouse / distribution center on east 4th and Jessica gave my partner and I a tour and very informative mini session on coffee beans, roasting, geographical regions, retailers, shelf life, barista techniques, and much more. Little did I know this amazing jewel had so much activity here in Austin. The workers all appeared to love their job, and at the end of the tour we had a cup of coffee made by Jessica and you could taste the passion behind the work put into the production of TCT's coffee beans. Jessica definately knew her coffee biznass, and was an amazing barista. TCT also participates in Fair Trade programs ... if there were 6 stars, they would have all 6!!! I now understand the hype surrounding this place. The owner and entire staff were all super friendly. If great customer service is important to you you will not be disappointed. The coffee was really delicious too I will say I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to coffee but I thoroughly enjoyed the cold brew that I ordered. The price was very reasonable considering the seemingly higher quality of their product. Also they have a mini store inside where you can purchase different coffee knick knacks which might be helpful if you're looking for something to bring back to loved ones. Like most reviews I read, we are an exceptional experience at TCT. We went in on a Saturday around 12:30pm and the place was packed. We were immediately greeted with a warm welcome and offer of help. We explained that we had a new espresso machine, our first, and have been working on perfecting our technique. We were in the market for espresso. The man who greeted us suggested we head to their espresso bar to try some options. This was the park of the store they make paid espresso drinks. The guy working was really helpful, explaining some things about technique and parameters. They had 3 different espressos for us to try. He told us about the beans, farms and tasting notes. My husband and I got to try all 3 and we never felt rushed or pressured to buy. We also did not have to pay for our 3 shots We ended up buying a pound of the Monteverdi and will, hands down, be back!! read more

Austin coffee game just keeps on surprising me, and my oh my what a STUPENDOUS surprise this place is!! Texas Coffee Traders is covered from head to toe in coffee art, beans, hardwares, machines, tea leaves, weird T-shirt's, and LOTS of samples to taste, including house made ice cream with Mill King Milk. They roast and brew everything in-house. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. My friend was in need of a small piece of hardware for her new espresso machine, and the man RC himself came out and recommended the piece and then proceed on giving us a 30 minute lesson on making good espresso. We learned SO MUCH. He is the nicest man with so much coffee wisdom. I think we ended up spending about an hour and half in this gorgeous warehouse. Also, they have DECAF COLD BREW. We really enjoyed our visit to TCT, they have the biggest collection of coffee making machines/equipment we've seen anywhere...and beans.....if you like or love or in my case ...addicted...this place needs to be on your bucket list. Just spent a few days researching and looking for an espresso machine,most stores that sell them had 2 or 3 to choose from, this place had a lot more than that! They have 5 or 6 thermoses of different coffees from all over the world you can sample, and some baked goodies to go with it. Another nice touch is all their whole bean coffees are in Tupperware containers with a sealed porthole on the top for easy sniffing...me likey! They have the biggest bean selection I've seen, I managed to restrain myself and left with a bag of dark roast Peruvian, which was only fitting since the owners of Quinoa Grill Peruvian Eats in Round Rock were the culprits praising this place and got my wife and I stirred up, wifey got a bag of Texas Pecan and we both love it, just made cup of the Peruvian...very tasty, first place I've been with two types of roast for Peruvian.. Lots of helpful friendly employees, we'll definitely be back for more beans. read more

Wow!! This place rocks and rolls. Had a problem with my ECM espresso machine. Tried to fix it myself. The machine was running the water really slow and was making a loud noise. Decided to try to find a local place to take it too. Hard to find a place to work on a commercial style home espresso machine. Found these guys through the place I purchased my machine from and gave them a call. Asked when a good time to bring it down to them to look at. They said a price to look at it and a price to fix it plus parts. Price was right to fix it and hoped parts would be not too much. Brought it to them on the day I was told to and drove to the door or the shop. I didn't want to carry this heavy machine too far. Guy came out and helped me bring it in and brought me in to the shop and showed me around. Nice place. Lots of machines to work on. About a 10 days later got a call as it was fixed up. Awesome. Didn't mind the time taken to fix as I got a French press to hold me over for coffee. French press was awesome by the way. Get one from these guys while your there. There awesome. Showed up to pick up the machine and the guy who actually worked on it and fixed it came out and got me and brought me to the back. Showed me what was wrong as it was not a normal fix and he had to find the problem. Found it and fixed it up. He then made me a shot from my machine to show it works. IT WORKS BETTER THAN WHEN I GOT IT NEW!!! What a awesome fix and awesome service I received. Shot was good too. Liked it so much I needed up buying a few espresso coffee items and some whole beans as well. I will be driving from Pflugerville and returning to get my whole beans here as the costumer service and the beans are awesome tasting. Thanks for the better than new fix up. I will be back. I love this shop! They have dozens of coffee and tea varieties and plenty of helpful staff to answer questions. If you need brewing, grinding, or serving tools, they have plenty of those, too, which makes them a great spot to gift shop. I hate to repeat all of the reviews but Texas Coffee Traders is the PERFECT place to get coffee hands down. I'm visiting Austin from Washington, DC so I had to make a pit stop and stock up on pounds of coffee for my trip back home. After a visit to this place last year, I have been hooked and I'm a loyal customer. I like medium roast coffee so I would recommend Gato Negro or Moka Java. But, their coffee is so good I like to explore and try new ones. I think the reason their coffee is so good is that the ones I've tried don't have a bitter after taste. I even tell all of my friends to either visit Texas Coffee Traders or buy online and have the coffee shipped as gifts. Every single person I've shipped coffee to loves them as gifts! I have been lazy and buying coffee from the grocery store for years, even after researching local roasters in search for better quality coffee. This place seemed to have the most going on, but like a bump on a log I did. Itching about it for years. I finally got my last ass off the couch and went over there the other day, turned out to be a good decision! They have a TON of locally roasted beans to choose from! I simply love this place. The industrial wholesale vibe mixed with the in-house coffee shop is totally my style. The baristas are all super friendly, chill and funny. Plus the prices are so reasonable for all coffee drinks. While they are making your drink for you, try one of their coffee brews from the extensive samples. Ordered online since the store is closed with the virus thing. Didn't get the order exactly right at first, but they went above and beyond to make sure my order was filled in spite of how crazy things have to be with changing the whole way of doing business. When they are open to the public, they are a great place to stop and try out the variety and maybe rethink your favorite way to brew coffee after trying several ways. As for product, they are one of my favorites for their selection. All is great, but the decaf selection alone is enough to keep me coming back. read more

We walked into Texas Coffee Roasters a bit overwhelmed. We didn't know where to start. The guys were looking for their morning cup of joe with a uniquely Austin experience and they found it here. Luckily for us, one of their amazingly approachable and knowledgeable staff, came up and took us under his wing. He immediately put us at ease with his friendly manner and wealth of knowledge. We got a bit of history on the business, what they offer, and which coffees were the most popular. We did a tasting of some of their offerings and the guys purchased some beans for home. They guys also left with delicious cups of coffee and we were now equipped to head over to nearby Franklins BBQ and wait the requisite 3 hours in line. While we were in Texas Coffee Traders we interacted with lots of different staff members. Everyone was very helpful and offered up local recommendations of places to visit while in Austin. Don't be scared of the junky appearance from the scooter graveyard, because you'll be missing out on one of the coolest shops in East Austin. Once inside, you'll be greeted, or rather, assaulted with an array of coffee smells. Their diverse selection of roasts fill a complete wall. Although they are known for their roasts, they have a weird selection of things you can buy. Here's just a small list of what you can buy a TCT that shows the eclectic inventory: -A fresh cup of joe to go -A bulk order of brewed coffee to supply your next party (order in advance) -A Moka Pot for Italian Espresso -A bag of beans for personal consumption -A bag of beans for mass consumption -Replacement parts for the Moka Pot you bought last year and destroyed in the dishwasher But most importantly, what you cannot buy, but ultimately receive from TCT is a wealth of information from a staff that is committed to the local Austin community and watching that community grow and evolve. Just came here for the first time today, not expecting much, and I was a bit blown away. They have tons of coffee variety and quality, but it wasn't just that! First off, the staff is super helpful AND knowledgeable AND patient. They aren't aggressively trying to sell anything, they are just super into their craft and love sharing their knowledge. Secondly, they have a great selection, not just of coffee beans, but also of equipment. Everything from french press to aeropress to espresso makers. Third, they have free tasting samples for hot coffee, cold brew coffee, tea, and lemonade. The nicest thing about this is that they have different brew styles of the same bean, so you can really compare and see the difference. Finally, they have an awesome outdoor chill area and coffee shop with chairs and tables! This was great since today happened to be a beautiful day. Dog-friendly too! read more

I have a new found love for East Austin. Only here can you find random coffee warehouses! This was a pleasant surprise. I was drawn to this place having sucked down a french press pot at Alamo Drafthouse with their brew. DELICIOUS: true story. I know this because I was able to drink it black with minimal sugar. The place itself is super cool. Lots of little gadgets for coffee and tea. They have a large wall of variety. I can't wait to dive in. There is also a nice little area to sit and enjoy your coffee out front. They package the coffee right there for you. You can get 1lb,1/2lb or 1/4lb and they give you a cute little red scoop for the beans. I really enjoyed it there, it's quite the drive for me but such a treat! I like the variety and the beans degrade if not used in a timely manner. In addition to coffee beans, they have a variety of specially blended teas. There is a small selection of ready-made teas and coffees to drink on the go. This is not the kind of place to hang out; but, if you are looking for high quality beans from all over the world to brew at home, you can find it here. I would give them all the stars in the Texas sky if I could. I take my coffee SRSLY. I think I love TCT even more because I go there in the early afternoons when I realize I'm out of beans, and as soon as I stagger-in bleary-eyed, they offer me some....coffee. (Duhhh.) It's always divinely strong. They make a nice cappuccino and potent cold-brew. Today, they had cold brew coffee toddy. I think I shed a tear of joy. They've always got a few other varieties to sample, too. If you're a loitering geek-type, they have wifi. I've worked my way through a dozen or so blends and have never been disappointed. There's a wall of big airtight plastic jugs of beans to smell and mull over while helpful folk buzz around suggesting things. Most of their coffees are around $12 a lb and totally worth it, with fair-trade and organic options for a few bucks more. They've got a frequent-buyers reward card that you leave at their shop so there's no chance to forget it and miss out. They've got equipment and teas but I haven't messed around with much of that...yet. Stickers and samples and business cards from good folks accumulate by the door, so get at that swag. read more

I am not a big coffee drinker, in fact may have only one cup a month. This place caught my eye when I was downtown on a chilly morning. It tasted so fresh and the staff was more than accommodating. The staff at Texas Coffee Traders is very customer focused and after letting them know it was our first time in, we got a full rundown of how the coffees were organized and how to go about sampling all of the many coffees, teas, and cold brew coffees they had available. There is a nice selection of really fragrant and unique tea blends in addition to a great selection of whole bean coffees as well as all the gadgets and gizmos you might want. Everybody was knowledgeable about the products they offered and we came away with a couple bags of coffee, a few teas, and had a mocha and hot chocolate on the patio as well. Everything we sampled tasted great and the drinks were ordered were nice as well. The prices on the drinks in house were also extremely reasonable, bordering cheap for the higher quality products they offer. I'll definitely be back. read more

Favorite coffee shop/roaster in Texas! Actually, TCT might be my favorite in the US... There's so much to love about TCT. My friend's little sister said they had good coffee here so we decided to stop by, and she was SO right about the coffee. I ordered an iced lavender mocha and cold brew. My friend and her sister each ordered the iced coconut latte. The taste of lavender was apparent but not overbearing at all. I generally don't like coconut flavored things but the iced coconut latte had the perfect amount of coconut. The service and staff here are absolutely wonderful. If you need anything or have questions about anything, they are very willing to help and are friendly about it. The ladies that took our order and made our drinks were so sweet. One of them made our drinks while the other made us mini affogatos which were very good! I think the ice cream is homemade so that made the affogatos even more delicious.
