    Dinner with bestie

I have found memories of Texican Cafe. I came here regularly as a young g high school and college aged kid. This local restaurant used to have a location on Lamar near Barton Creek mall that has since closed down. This South Austin location on Menchaca Rd is Rancho style inside with cozy dim lit mood. Service is always attentive and great here. And the food keeps you coming back. The Gallo Pollo and the shredded chicken tacos are well... chef's kiss! I'd highly recommend!

Shrimp Flautas, there is guac, onions and lettuce but I accidently smushed it with my dipping bowl lol

Had an amazing dinner while visiting the area to see long time friends after a few years! The meal was perfect, the service was terrific, and the vibes indoor and outdoor were just happy families enjoying an evening out with the beautiful South Austin area weather. The chips and queso were flowing all night with delicious meals. I loved my shrimp flautas and opted for a double order of black beans instead of rice which was very filling but delicious. I tried a few bites of my wife's chicken chimichanga and had no complaints. No complaints for start to finish, and personally found it to be a step above places like Chuys while remaining family friendly and fair price point.

We came back last Sunday when my fiancés stepmom was in town, and had another positive experience. We tried the queso flameado this time, which was definitely warm and fresh, and was a good change up. My Pescado Oscar was also solid. My fiancé liked her meal and my fiancés stepmom did too. We would come back.

I loved eating at this restaurant!!! I went with my family of 6, and we had an amazing time! We enjoyed beef fajitas and the salad with chicken and our little ones loved the soft tacos and nachos on the kids menu! The service was good, and our waiter was very welcoming! It was such a pretty restaurant and we loved looking at all of the paintings on the walls and all the wonderful decorations in the rooms! It was about a 20 minute wait when we arrived but the waiting area had seating for my grandmother and it was very nicely put together! I would come again, definitely recommend!

This is one of the most friendly, accepting, comfortable, and family-friendly dinin' spots you'll find in this area. The staff are incredibly cordial and polite. The food is, primarily, tex-mex, and, yeah, some folks will have less than stellar opinions about that, but, don't care - the food is made fresh, is small kitchen style, and, I find, along with the staff, that makes me feel more at home. I'd definitely go so far as to bring a date here, because it's an atmosphere for *"real"* folks, it's well-suited to relaxed, casual conversation, so, it's a warm, comfy spot, for down-to-earth conversation, and getting to know just 'bout anyone. Also, as someone autistic, who might be considered "neurospicy", I've been here on my "off" days, and know I'm in a relatively safe spot, if I'm feelin' particularly vulnerable to the world Thanks so much, for that! I've tried quite a few things, on their menu, and have never left feeling anything other than happy with my meal. Pictured is a grilled chicken salad, with their in-house chipotle ranch dressing, which is a perfect lunch. It's right-sized, and, doesn't make me want to nap, afterward. Also, I've always enjoyed the queso, with guacamole

All I'm gonna say is this was an 18 dollar QUESADILLA with no sides. What a joke.

Most disappointing quesadilla I've ever seen. Not to mention it's called a "grande" , comes with no sides, and is 18 dollars. Straight up robbery.. especially for being such an unpacked day.

If you have a craving for Tex Mex, this is the spot. Big parking lot, old Spanish style decor and places to sit in a booth or tables and chairs. We were greeted by a man and seated us as requested at a table in the bar. I've been here before and sat in the restaurant to the right but my friend wanted to sit in the bar. It was happy hour and I got the Mexican martini which was the featured for the day. My friend got a Dos Equis. The service was quick and our waitress was timid but efficient. They have a full bar too and some come in just for a drink at the bar. It was busy for a Wednesday at 4:30. I can say I've had better tortilla soup but it was still good, just seemed to missing something or it could've been more spicy. My friend loved her stuffed avocado dish. It's right off Menchaca and 1626, so easy to get to, just not visible if you're driving by since it's farther in the lot. Most people who've lived in the area have been coming here for years. It's in the same lot as where the old Pedernales office was. Just look for that gas station and you're there.

Diablo Enchilada Plate with beef was solid

I came all the way out here because I heard about their chips and salsa. This place has a lot of room, and it was a nice experience, they did not disappoint. I heard they have some really good chips and salsa - so you get those when you sit down. Yes - the chips are light, crispy, made specially for them (per the waiter). A bit salty - but it's bearable. The red salsa was pretty good too. I needed more with those chips so I got that Queso with beef and guac in it - - oh so good! 9 bucks. I couldn't decide what to get but a couple of people recommeded the Diablo Enchiladas. Plate comes out hot, got the beef, the sauce is a little spicy, and the enchiladas are pretty respectable size. In fact I could only eat one and had to take the rest home. The rice is solid, the black beans were good, I really enjoyed my meal here. Service was prompt and courteous. They kept filling my chip basket and I kept munching away. I will definitely be back here for some other items on their menu that sounds so appetizing. They kept saying Fajitas are great here and they did look good. The Tortilla Soup looks great too. A lot of nice items to pick here. I don't know why I never knew of these guys before - but better late than never!

The portion and flavor of their tortilla soup was just as good as people had told me it would be and priced appropriately at just under $15- I'll def go back to have it again before I try to rank it among the best in town. I'm sure it's even better if you get it dine-in but I still really enjoyed mine as takeout

We arrived at 5PM for an early dinner after a few hours of tubing in San Marcos. No line and very straightforward to order. Moreno has been renowned as one of the best late-day barbecue spots (with availability of good cuts) so we had to try it out! We ordered the Texas Trinity (1lb. each of brisket, ribs, and sausage so four sausages, and four quarts of sides) and a Saturday special, the Smoked Prime Rib with creamed spinach & scalloped potatoes. Added 1/4 lbs. of pulled pork and a side of onion rings for six people and it ended up being nearly perfect. We were starving after floating the river and skipping breakfast and lunch to drive all morning, so that may impact my score... Brisket (4.5/5): The moist brisket was definitely juicy, and my friend said the lean brisket was great too. Good smoke ring and bark (very peppery), great by itself or with the complimentary potato bread. Sausage (3.5/5 normal, 4/5 jalapeno cheese): I'm never a huge sausage fan, and they're usually too oily for me. That being said, these were some solid sausage. Good crisp bite. Ribs (4.5/5): Tender as can be and also deliciously smoked. Pulled Pork (3/5): Can be skipped, nothing crazy here. Sides: Gouda Mac & Cheese (4.5/5): Can't beat a great creamy mac & cheese. Better than most other sides I've had at traditional BBQ places. Refried Beans (3.5/5): I'm not a huge fan of refried beans but my friends appreciated the option and enjoyed it more than I did. Cole Slaw (4.5/5): This was the surprise of the evening for me. They went with a vinegar-forward cole slaw rather than a creamy one, and it really balanced out our Mac & Cheese, Creamed Corn, and Creamed Spinach (yeah, we got a lot of cream dishes). Great acidity to balance things out. Creamed Corn (3.5/5): I'm also not a huge fan of creamed corn, but it was a solid side. Onion Rings (5/5): Huge and actually good portions? Crispy and hot? Wow, really glad I ordered this. And they paired really well with the BBQ sauce. Prime Rib Plate (4.5/5): Definitely could have ordered this for a normal dinner. Awesome cook, great au jus, and scalloped potatoes were a standout and the creamed spinach was good too. We cut this 6 ways to all get a few bites. Special Mention: Barbecue sauces. All have great acidity and bold, vinegar/mustard flavor. The original was my favorite. It added a ton to everything, actually. Overall, it's a stellar barbecue spot for having everything available later in the day and not having to wait. I wouldn't say it's the best I've had, but they've got some unique sides and a sleeper great barbecue sauce. I paid at the counter via inKind with no issues.

The only complaints we had were, that both of our baked potatoes skins were overcooked and very tough, and the skin on the baked potatoes weren't seasoned. The inside of the baked potatoes were very good. The combo included one trip to the salad bar and unlimited soft drinks and tea. Everything on the salad bar was fresh and delicious.
