Our family has been going to the Texican Cafe for years and have always enjoyed their delicious food. Went there last night with my family and like always the food was great. The only reason I'm not giving them five stars is because of our waiter, he never came back after our food was delivered to ask if everything was ok, I asked them not to put lettuce on my meal because even though I love lettuce, lettuce doesn't like me but I had no choice but to eat it cause it was mixed in with all the other goodness of my meal (sour cream, guacamole, tomatoes) I waited awhile to see if he would come by and check on us but......so even though I knew I would suffer later I ate it. Also, which has never happened, my daughter's tortillas were cold! Other then that, the company was great, the food was great, the Texican martini was wonderful, so we will be back. read more

I havent eaten here in years and we gave it a go earlier this week. Overall, everything was really good. Nothing bad for sure! the four of us had queso, nachos, the Texican platter and one of us had some chicken enchiladas with green sauce. We all cleaned our plates. I enjoyed the red chile sauce. Its not the typical chili gravy most mexican food places offer. this was the real thing dried red chiles made into a wonderful red sauce. The Queso was a hit also. Had the San Antonio enchiladas topped with carne guisada and queso. Deeeeeelish!!! Fork tender carne, deliciously spicy queso on top of perfectly crafted cheese enchiladas mmmmm also had the fried jalapeños as an appetizer which were perfect. Last minute decision to go past the Texican Cafe on Manchaca for take-out, but I'm glad we did. The woman that was at the take-out register was especially nice and congenial. I've been going to the Texican now for about 6 years ever since some friends recommended it to my wife. I'm a fan of the margaritas, the price is fair, and the veggie or shrimp fajitas are delicious. We live pretty close so its a good place to stop in, grab a booth and have dinner and drinks after a busy workday. The staff is usually friendly, quick to check up, and food is at the table faster than most restaurants. I once took my family here but to mixed review. My mom is on a restricted diet, mainly vegetarian, and had trouble finding something to enjoy. read more

I love Texican! It's a hole in the wall spot, a little dingey, and they have smokers on the patio, but the food slams! We live close so we love grabbing a huge to-go order. I crave their chips and salsa regularly, their chicken tortilla soup is one of the best, all of their fajitas are awesome, guac rocks, and nachos are awesome, too. Even their shredded chicken taco salad is good. Just a good all around go-to. However, as others have said, service is a problem. It has been since we've been coming here, almost 4 years. It's Tex-Mex, enough said! Monday is $.99 taco night and $6 flavored Rita's - my personal favorite is the Cucumber with Chili salted rim! Tuesday is 2 for 1 enchiladas! Wednesday is half price Mexican Martini's and 2 for 1 fajita's. I love the Mexican Martini's and they come with Chili salted rim, MY favorite! 3 stars...the service was great, the ambiance was nice, the establishment was clean. My lady friend and I stopped by for some tortilla soup over the chilly weekend. The soup was outstanding and the table presentation was memorable. The broth was flavorful, rich, we barely put a dent in it and had to take it home. Soup was delicious....one of the best I had. So here's the kicker...Server asked if we wanted avocado on the side, of course, we both said. I don't mind paying for extras, but to get 4 thin measly sorry looking avocado slices for $2 per order is downright cringeworthy and shameful. Seriously? For $2 I want at the very least 1/2 of it. You have a good establishment and I am all for making a profit but that little "avocado penny pinching" faux pas sticks out like a sore thumb and makes management look like a bunch of cheap schmucks. Love their tortilla soup, chicken enchilades - especially with the sour cream sauce - or the green sauce, husband loves the carne guisada. Their food is very good. We've brought out of town guests and everyone is always happy. Fun atmosphere and friendly staff. We come often and would recommend. Price per entree is around $9 read more

My family and I always go to the Texican Cafe Sports Cantina in the Brodie Oaks shopping center, and we absolutely LOVE it. The food is always delicious, the salsa is AMAZING, and the service is impeccable. The staff is always friendly, to the point where we feel very much at home there. I cannot say enough good things about this location. We are regulars at this location and plan to stay that way. That being said, tonight, my husband and I decided to try the Manchaca location, since it is closer to where we live, expecting the same great food and service. We will NEVER go there again. Not only did the waiter get my order wrong, he did not bring my toddler's drink out with ours, instead, it was brought out about 10 minutes AFTER ours. And we only ordered water. When I asked him to correct my order, he LEFT the incorrect order sitting on the table, and didn't bother picking it up for another 10 minutes or so. Getting MY order right took so long, that my husband finished his meal, my toddler finished hers, and I eventually had to GET UP AND FIND our waiter to ask him to make mine to go. This took an EXTRA 5 to 10 minutes. He never came by to apologize, refresh our waters OR the chips and salsa, nor did he offer to comp my meal since I sat there for over half an hour with nothing while my family ate their meals. He was not very personable, nor was the rest of the staff. We were not greeted in the usual friendly way when we got there, and when we left, not one of the four people standing by the register said good bye, see ya later or anything. Great place for a quick meal. My fiance and I usually go here about once a week. Monday night has the $1.00 tacos and they are delicious. Chips and salsa are always good (selling point for me) and I love the tortilla soup. Drinks are okay... We ordered a pitcher of margaritas which we were told would serve 5 and it barely filled 3. I've become a frequent lunch diner here. The sour cream chicken enchiladas are my go to, but they have a large and varied menu. Recently I came here w a friend for drinks & appetizers. We enjoyed sharing the spinach quesadillas & fried avocado. The mango margaritas were out of this world....not too fruity. It did take awhile to get our drinks don't know if the bar was backed up but the taste is worth waiting for. read more

We went here with my aunt because it's one of her regulars. She suggested the Cabrito. I've never had goat before but I'm always willing to try something new. This place is huge! The service was excellent. The margaritas were so big we had to use both of our hands to drink them. I had the mixed berry 'rita and it was great! My family ordered the beef fajitas and they were very tender! I had the spinach enchiladas with chicken and they were just okay. The queso was just okay as well. This place needs help. Our waitress walked away frequently and took about 10 minutes every time before getting to us again. I ordered a FROZEN margarita that was then given to me and was not frozen. When our food came in, my plate was very sloppy. My boyfriend ordered beef fajita tacos and one them literally came with minimal beef. We stopped the waitress and asked her if they could add more meat. She insisted on taking the plate to the cook. The plate was brought back by which I believe was the owner or manager and proceed to "inform" my boyfriend that the plate in whole carried an amount of beef. Instead of apologizing, he was set on making his point and letting us know that we were wrong. I did not feel welcomed. Please do not come here and spend your hard earned money. read more

The Gollos Pollo is so good! I love the heat of the Serrano peppers and it's so big and warms up delicious which means I can enjoy it for 2 maybe even 3 meals. It is very possible that the amount of fresh crunchy chips and delicious salsa play a factor in that as well. read more

If you like New Mexican food they have an amazing sauce that I think they call "smokey red chile sauce" that really reminds me of my visits to New Mexico and my husband who grew up in New Mexico thinks it's the only sauce that resembles what he used to eat in New Mexico as a kid. I wouldn't call this Austin Tex-Mex AT ALL!! It's Mexican with "The Texican" twist. My husband and I love most things on the menu. They are willing to make changes to what is on the menu to make it to your specific liking. If you are on a diet and ask for no cheese...you will still get an amazing dish! If you want a different one of their sauces that is not on the item you request, they are happy to change it and it always comes out exactly as you order it. Excellent food, excellent service, good price, and decent atmosphere. The house margaritas are amazing (which I can't say for most places)!! It is hard to bring my mother there because their most mild sauce still has some kick to it, which is great for most Austinites but not for all. read more
