The location has plenty of parking within the plaza but can get tight around dinnertime and lunchtime. The dining room is cozy with Asian tapestries on the wall. What sets it aside from the "over the top" Asian places is that this dining room is crowded with a freezer, extra rice bags and a plethora of random supplies. The server was probably an owner and he was amazing and attentive. They refill water and drinks several times within your meal. I made the mistake of ordering "spicy" at a Thai place and really paid the price. The food was amazing and lived up to the hype. They serve "Asian portions"....iykyk! The only downside was that I saw very many men in uniform in the dining area, but they said they only do military discounts on Mondays...I'm pretty sure they gave the discount to all who were in uniform but not to us. Seems to be a change in the curry flavor department. We always get the green curry and pumpkin curry, with various protein choices. Today was Green chicken curry and pumpkin seafood curry. Unfortunately , both curries barely had flavor. They were very bland. I hope this was a mishap and not a permanent change since we normally love them. Otherwise, we are back on the hunt for a better Thai restaurant. Please add more flavor spice to your curries. They need to be rich in flavor for serving over rice. Delicious Thai food. The outside and just inside the front door are nothing to write home about, but the dining area in back is nice and looks as though it might have been renovated recently. It can get noisy! The food comes out quickly. Two of us tried the Panang curry, spring rolls, and stuffed chicken wings. Another person had the fried rice and vegetables, which she enjoyed. The spring rolls are Vietnamese-style and were yummy. (There are also Thai egg rolls.) I was surprised, though, that the stuffed wings just didn't land with me. I found them to be rather flavorless. Here's a tip - both come out blazing hot from the fryer. Be patient and allow them to cool for at least five minutes. Your taste buds will thank you because in the absence of the intense heat the flavors come through (although the wings were still lacking after cooling). I skip having rice, so I have some curry sauce left. I dip the spring rolls into the curry before each bite. So good! The Panang curry has haricots verts (skinny French green beans) and you choice of protein. I was surprised it had a bit of heat (spiciness). Every Panang curry I've ever had was mild. Later I heard a server telling other patrons that they cooked to the customer's heat preference. Our server did not mention this. If he had, I would have requested mild. To me, heat from spice is a flavor distractor, not a flavor enhancer. There was a good balance of vegetables to meat. A good new place to add to the roster! read more

Just happened to be in Aiea earlier in the morning, so we thought we'd try a new restaurant since we're hardly ever in the area. Thai food is one of my absolute favorites and I've been craving it for some time, so of course we had to come here for lunch. We must've timed everything perfectly, because when we arrived, only 1 table was occupied--fast forward about 15 min later, the place is hopping! We ordered the spring rolls, chicken larb, and beef pad see ew. Everything was delicious, but I think I would pass on the larb in the future and get a curry instead. I honestly wish we had gotten some take out for dinner, but our fridge couldn't handle any more food. Problems of having a small fridge. I loved how they brought everything out as soon as the dish was ready to be served rather than waiting for our other dishes to be ready. Everything was served piping hot, which we all appreciated. Atmosphere can get noisy once the restaurant fills up, but luckily we were near the end of our meal when it got loud. It was a bit difficult to get our bill paid, since the guy owner was running all over the place (taking take out orders on the phone, getting other table's orders, etc.) but we understood since there were only 2 people working the dining section. I didn't understand why the guy was the only one taking the orders and handling the checks, but whatever works for them. For the quality of food and the amount, I'd definitely come back. Our total came to about $42, which is super reasonable for Hawaii standards nowadays. Definitely recommend if you're in the area. read more

Thai Bistro is personally my favorite Thai place on island, they have been consistent for years and I have a feeling that won't be changing anytime soon. I always used to get take out but here and recently decided to sit in the restaurant a time or two so that I can give a proper review overall and I stand on my 5 stars. The food is always amazing beware though if you ask for spicy YOU WILL GET DRAGON BREATH LOL! So know your limits. The location is small so not really for huge groups but its nice that it's mostly quiet in there. We had a really great waiter the last time we went who was named Van, he was very personable and attentive he also made sure we knew about the spice levels and happily answered any questions we had. I personally always have good experiences with the normal employees when I've placed take out orders as well. Went here with a friend and we were very stoked on the food, the service, the personal interactions the owners had with us, and the ambiance. We ordered several dishes, more than we could eat for sure, but had the intentions of sharing the leftovers with family later. The food arrived piping hot in a very timely manner and before we knew it, our table was covered in delicious Thai food there for the taking. I really loved the shrimp spring rolls, they went really well with the beef and shrimp rice we had. The vegetarian pad Thai was excellent, as was the chicken pad Thai. Thai fried chicken and everything else. To be exact, I'd give this place 4.5 stars but I'm rounding up. We ordered the fried chicken, tofu Tom Yum soup, and chicken panang curry, with a side of rice. The flavor of all dishes was above average. I thought the panang had a bit too much coconut milk, and the fried chicken by itself was just okay. However, the dipping sauce made it exceptional. I also wish the fried chicken was boneless :( But outside of that, it was very enjoyable and I'd certainly come here again. I was craving Thai last night and it was a no brainer that we would eat here. This is our go-to restaurant whenever we are in the mood for some Thai food. Their food and service has been consistently on point. We usually get the same dishes but this time we changed it up. By changed it up, I mean we added pineapple to the beef fried rice LOL. I also tried their panang curry (instead of their massaman curry my bf usually orders). We got their pad thai as well, which is another must-have for us. Their food is so good, it's hard to change what we order but I'm sure everything else on the menu is just as delicious. The restaurant was packed, which was the first time we saw it like that. We decided to dine-in for the first time. It was a Friday! Seated in a small 2-top table near kitchen. I haven't been here in over 15 yrs and that was when they had different management. Our server, Donna was very helpful. We requested "No MSG" in our order and they were able to do that. We ordered the Thai Egg Rolls, MASAMAN Chicken Curry (Mild) and Pad Thai Noodle with Shrimp (Mild) Thai Egg Rolls were bit over done, but still had good crispy crunch. Would've liked more cucumbers on the side. MASAMAN Chicken Curry was just ok. Small portion. Carrots should've been fresher. Pad Thai Noodle with Shrimp was good like the time we did take-out. I think you get more from doing take-out!! Overall, food is just alright. Atmosphere needs improvement. The other staff seemed scattered walking around as take out orders poured in. This is my favorite go-to restaurant. This review is long overdue as I've been eating here since 2018. Can't recommend this place enough: the food is delicious and very reasonably priced, the ambiance is welcoming and relaxing, and the owners are awesome. There's plenty of parking and even when full, service is fast. Given the number of times I've gone, I've had just about everything the menu (and off-menu as the owners are willing to adjust dishes now) and nothing, absolutely nothing has disappointed. My favorite dishes are stuffed chicken wings, sausage, house fried chicken, buffalo wings, and spring rolls (all appetizers); basil chicken, drunken noodles, grilled beef salad, pork larb, Thai snapper, King of Chili, yellow curry, Penang curry, and pineapple fried rice. Their Thai coffee (slightly stronger and bitter) and Thai tea (very sweet and refreshing) are great with any of their Hot or Thai Hot spices. One of my favorite desserts is their fried bananas in tapioca. Yummmm. I could go on and on, but this place is definitely better tried than be read about. So, go, dine, and enjoy. It's more like 4-stars for the food, but it's 5-stars for the service. LOCATION: Pearl Kai shopping strip mall, two doors down from Ricado's Italian. It's in the same space that the old Champa Thai used to be. Food is nothing like Champa's though. I really miss Champa Thai. Lots of free parking on a Friday night. Just be aware that the parking spaces are narrow as heck, but free is always good. ATMOSPHERE: T-shirt and shorts kinda place. Moderately warm due to the amount of people in the place and smallish split level A/C. SERVICE: Our server's name was Van and he was lightning fast, like some kind of mythical creature. Also very funny. Very attentive. Food came out faster than fast food, and now I see why other Yelpers said the same thing. It was less than 5 minutes that our appetizers came out, and another 10 minutes before the main dish came out. FOOD: Gone are the days of "old school" Thai food, where the food presentation was equally as good as the taste; for instance, our fish patties came out on a bed of crudely chopped cabbage, and served with sweet Thai chili sauce straight out of the bottle, same for our fried chunks of calamari, served up identically. "Old school" fish patties used to be served with a side of crushed peanuts, nuoc cham sauce with shredded carrots, fresh mint sprigs and butterleaf lettuce to wrap it all together. Nope not at this place. You can't have speed and quality, and to tell you the truth, not sure if any place even serves quality like I am talking about. If anyone knows, please send me a message or mention it in a compliment. FISH PATTIES: superbly delicious and you can taste the lemon grass, but thin patties and on a bed of crudely chopped cabbage. Sweet chili sauce out of the bottle. CALAMARI: we will skip this next time. Fishy tasting chunks with thick heavy batter. On a bed of cabbage, sweet chili sauce straight outta the bottle. MASSAMUN CURRY WITH SCALLOPS: We ordered hot and boy, was it hot. I was paying all day the next day! I was hoping it was like the curries of yore, with lots of veggies and thick sauce. This was thin and watery, with a few green beans tossed in with scallops, was more like a soup. I threw the chopped cabbage from the two appetizers into the hot curry to make it more like a curry and less like a soup. The heat from the curry cooked the cabbage enough to make the curry more substantial. Taste was good, but the consistency was disappointing. Not sure if we will order this again. STICKY RICE: pretty good, came in smallish bamboo steam baskets. BEEF FRIED RICE: Take out with a large amount, very flavorful. Loved that the restaurant made sure the oil from the rice (vegetable oil BTW, not peanut oil) didn't soak through the paper take out container by lining it with foil, which was thoughtful! BOOZE: You can bring your own booze, which is very nice. No "corkage fee" which I think is totally stupid anyway. BILL: About $61.00 without tip, for two apps, two sticky rice, one curry and one takeout fried rice. RETURN FACTOR: yes, but without the calamari this time. May want to try a noodle dish vs a curry dish next time. And will skip the very spicy stuff unless I'm not working the next day and have quick access to Pepto Bismol and a bathroom. read more

We were excited to try this place as its one of the highest rated Thai restaurants on Oahu. Unfortunately the actual food did not live up to the ratings. The good news is that prices are pretty reasonable, so its not a terrible value. We ordered: 1. SATEH CHICKEN ($11.95) - 4 small skewers of chicken with some peanut sauce on them and a very small pickled garnish. This was the worst value dish. Olay's Thai in downtown they have this for $18, and its literally 3-4x the amount of chicken and is SMOTHERED in sauce with a much much larger garnish. I would NOT order this appetizer. 2. TOM KHA SOUP ($14.95) - I feel this was a good value. It was a big bowl of soup with a decent amount of fish. The quality of the soup wasn't as good as at many places I've been to. Its a little watery rather than coconut creamy, and didn't quite have the right flavor. Still, I'd order it again because it was decent for a good price. Many time, all-fish is not offered for soups. 3. LOOK FU PAD THAI (tofu-veg $12.95) - Pretty decent and a good value for $12.95. Portion size average to above average. Flavor was ok. Very little egg for Pad Thai and no sprinkled peanuts or other garnish. Service was good. Water was refilled and food came out fast. No problems there. In summary, if in the area and craving Thai this place is serviceable. Its not great Thai food, but the prices are decent. If given the option I would rate 3.5*. I feel 4* is too high, and the overall rating of this restaurant is too high so I am rating it 3* which I feel a little bad about. Yelp please add 1/2 star increments! read more

Went for lunch with a group of 6 around 11:15 and had no problem getting a table. The food was flavorful and portion sizes were good. We ordered the Thai mixed roll platter, larb, garlic vegetarian, pad Thai, pad seiew, yellow and panang curries. Definitely enough for all of us with leftovers to spare. I love how the yellow curry was on the thicker side and not so runny. We had brought our own cake to celebrate a special occasion, and the owner kindly offered to store it in the fridge until we were ready. He provided a knife and extra plates and forks. A long time ago, this place used to be called Champa Thai. From what I gather this restaurant was passed on from one family to another. So if you eaten here often enough their menu hasn't changed. A friend and I were looking for a nearby place to eat at Pearl Kai since our original restaurant was closed and found this place with good reviews. Decided to check it out! It's located next to Tadashi in the Pearl Kai Shopping Center. There's a parking lot with ample parking that won't ever be a problem. We shared a beef pad kee mao with medium spice level, spring rolls, and chicken satay. The pad kee mao was pretty good! Lots of flavor and not too salty. It was actually really spicy to me even with medium spice level. I kept having to drink water and felt bad how the waitress had to keep refilling LOL. My friend was okay with the spice level as I continued to die. The sateh chicken was really good! The peanut sauce that they had on the chicken was soooo good. It was creamy with hint of spiciness. The spring rolls was filled with lots of minced meat and vermicelli. Lots of places don't really pack their springs rolls but this restaurant does! I really liked the dipping sauce. Yum!
