We went here because we love Thai food and wanted to explore more options than just our usual places. The restaurant is very easy to find and has an ample parking lot in front. It's part of a shopping center so there are tons of other businesses nearby. The decor and service were both great but there was something that didn't feel authentic. I think the servers and owners are Thai but it felt as if the restaurant was adjusting to the taste buds of the area, which is more upper-class American. The crispy salmon rolls were actually pretty good and the spicy catfish was just ok. Overall, the experience was good, but there are better Thai options around Atlanta. I came here for lunch on a Saturday. There wasn't a lot of people and we were seated very quickly. I ordered the chicken pad thai and a mixed seafood entree. They plates come out looking and a medium sized portion, but it fills you up for sure! My parents and I shared two plates and that was plenty for us. The pad thai was a bit too saucy and salty, otherwise alright. The seafood curry dish was not bad either. Overall, everything was A-OK. Service was not bad, food was not bad, and price was reasonable. I'm not usually a fan of Thai food, but this place has the most delicious mussels. Large in size and baked in the most delicious buttery sauce with Thai basil and bell pepper. Absolutely delicious. I love mussels but am annoyed by the usual garlic and white wine recipe in most restaurants. There is no wine in these mussels, so you can taste the mussels. Their peanut sauce is is also exceptional, as is the shrimp pad thai. Service is great and prices are reasonable. I don't like spicy food and am very impressed that they can make items without spice, and I ask for the mussels without salt. I like places that can accommodate to such requests. I call them and the lady says next time orde online, call me and tell me your name and when you pick up, I will give you tofu. Make that make sense. In fact I liked it so much that I bought a bunch of certificates from LocalFlavor.com and intended to visit frequently when things are opening up. It all changed after my recent visit. 1. The management refused to honor the certificate citing ownership change. To keep its credibility, the restaurant should honor the outstanding certificates already sold, and stop selling new ones. 2. This is a solid Thai restaurant! The wife had the pangs for Thai food, and she has a go to place that I don't like, so I found this little gem. To start, the decor is simple and clean, not overly kitschy and overtly east Asian. It was tasteful and a comfortable space. Our server was efficient and quick, and didn't come by a lot of times to ask how things are going. For starters we ordered the fried vegetable rolls and the coconut chicken soup. They both tasted fresh and good. The ginger tea we ordered was a revelation, slightly spice and sweet. Very good. For entrees we got the beef pad see ew and the red curry. The noodles were just right flavored, not overly salty like other places make them. The wife ordered the red curry spicy and she was sweating halfway. She loved it though. Full disclosure: I'm not Thai. Nor do I speak the language fluently. I learned enough words in Thai to make sure the taxi driver got me from Suvarnabhumi airport to my apartment on Sukhumvit road when I worked there for a year. During that time, I got a chance to try some really great Thai food. Not the sort of Thai food you get in the tourist traps on Khao-san road but the kind cooked by my friend Geng's mom. Of all the Thai places I've tried in Atlanta, Thai Chili comes closest to what I loved about "Royal Thai" cuisine. This is a special brand of Thai food that used to be limited to the Thai royal family and their immediate, aristocratic subjects. Hence, it tends to be very rich, heavy and liberally infused with a number of relatively exotic spices. For one reason or another (maybe because the first Thai immigrants to the US came from the upper/upper middle class), this is what Americans think of as Thai food. There are many who try to faithfully recreate the original experience. Few, like Thai Chili, manage to do so. The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is because the food is only great about 90% of the time. We've had a few times when the curry was either extremely watery or tasteless. It doesn't happen often and the manager is always quick to rectify things, but it shouldn't happen at all. The other reason is the sometimes sketchy service. All the servers seem to be Thai and some personify the happy, smiling Thai in the guidebooks more than others. Maybe this is the secret to Thailand's happy-smiley reputation? They ship the grumpy ones to the US to torment restaurant customers. Ambience (4 Stars) - Casual, low-key and quiet. Great place if you actually like having a conversation with your dining companions. Service (4 Stars) - See my comments above. Food (4 Stars) - I've tried most of the items on the menu and have only been disappointed in a few things like the beef dishes. I'm not a big beef eater and tend to be very picky about my beef. So, it's not fair to compare a $12 beef curry to a $35 filet somewhere else but every time I've tried the beef here it's been chewy and rubbery. The Tofu curry is excellent and we usually order a side of veggies with it. The kitchen does a great job with the veggies. Fresh, crisp and tasting like veggies. Simple yes, but something a lot of expensive places don't manage. To those reviewers complaining about the richness or creaminess of the dishes, this is actually how Royal Thai food should taste like. You might think it's unhealthy but Thai people don't actually inhale a couple of pounds of the stuff as we do here. I came here with a few of my co-workers to celebrate reaching one of many deadlines. I was excited to try a new (Americanized) Thai restaurant in the area, but that excitement went quickly down the drain. I ordered the masaman curry with chicken and cashews. Disappointment # 1 was the lunch portion of coconut soup that came with the meal. This is coconut soup? Too heavy on the "sour" (probably fish sauce or vinegar) and one dimensional and watery. Those of you who actually love it haven't been out much. Sorry. Disappointment # 2 - The masaman curry was ok, but the meat (chicken breast) was often rubbery at times, and I don't think the meat was the freshest. I did appreciate the 1 cup of rice that came with the meal - perfect portion. I also loved the buttery cashew nuts. The curry itself - I actually prefer Top Spice's. The avocado came as a sliced garnish rather than incorporated into the curry - major disappointment. They really need to reword their menu. Disappointment # 3 - Complete lack of service. We never got checked on after being served, and got the bill before we were able to voice our preference on how to pay (work lunch? you know that translates to split checks). The server rudely walked away without a word, which I didn't get because there were several tables that requested split checks - even a gigantic table of 12. It's the norm for many lunch establishments in the N. Druid Hills area. Look - I totally get that it's a hassle. But if you don't like doing it, then don't do it? And definitely don't do it for other tables and be pissed off when we request the same. I'd probably come here again simply for their perfect portions. I'd skip the soup and try the salad next, and maybe try another curry. read more

It was a pretty average Thai place. There wasn't anything wrong nor did they do anything spectacularly well. The store itself is pretty huge. Not sure if it gets that full but they can seat 75+ easily. They also have a section for floor seating with those legless chairs for back support. The design and materials are pretty dated and the carpet isn't helping anything. I got the Masaman Chicken Curry ($8.95). The avocados come as a garnish along with the roasted cashews and the rice comes shaped like a can. The presentation was pretty nice. The curry itself is pretty salty but in my experience that's every curry I've had at restaurants. It comes with a soup or salad. I got the salad. It's a simple romaine in a cup. The service at first was friendly but after that they seemed standoffish. The only smiles came when the check was brought out. That was a little disappointing. It was lunch on a Saturday but there were only about 8 people so that was surprising. I thought it would get more business than that. We're come to this location several times in the last few years. The food used to be very fresh and flavorful. The last 4-5 times we've come (for takeout) our orders are never ready in the quoted time frame, proteins are mixed up (tofu is chicken or vice versa and have to be remade), the flavor is... subpar and mediocre...?? Sadly, it continues to deteriorate over time where we don't want even want to finish the meal. Solid lunch. I had the "thai spicy" Basil with chicken. Got the soup with was okay. I splurged the extra 2 bucks for brown rice because it's healthier. You would think that as a side, it wouldn't cost as much since they don't give you the brown rice in addition to the customary white rice! This place is a true gem among the Atlanta Thai restaurants. My husband and I love trying new places and this place fit our taste perfectly. We started with the fried tofu and egg roll appetizers. These came out perfect and delicious. My husband had the cashew chicken with brown rice and I had the pad Thai tofu and vegetables. Delicious!! To finish off we enjoy the Thai temptation which was three scoops of ice cream, ginger, green tea and coconut with friend bananas. We were in heaven. I have been coming to this location since college. In terms of Thai food in general, I think this place is above-average. The reason I personally keep coming back is a specific dish. The masman short ribs are incredible. It is to the point where I don't bother with anything else on the menu. For under twenty dollars you get a huge plate of these fall apart tender thick short ribs covered in the most wonderful curry sauce I have ever had. The dish is easily big enough to share. This was my very first experience with a Thai Restaurant. Service was okay, but def not overly attentive. The shrimp dumplings were killer but upon coming out, they were a lot smaller than anticipated so not worth the price in my opinion. The Pad Thai was okay. The portions were humongous so there is plenty to take home. I tried the pad see-you and it was def better than the pad Thai. I will go with that on my next visit.
