They have many Thai staples (pad Thai, drunken noodles) and a lot of other choices (curries, duck etc.). They also have sticky rice dessert with the sweetened condensed milk mmmmm. But I think what really makes Thai Cortez awesome are the people who work their. They are all super friendly and from the few times I've been they know their regulars names and rally make it a family friendly place to go to. I've only ever gotten take-out, so not sure what dine-in is like. Recommend asking for hot even if you just want medium, they seem to go light on spiciness scale. The service here is easily 6 stars. I walked in and the two primary staffers were very busy but while working were quick to acknowledge me and give me info about the place. They offer food to go so I order the wonton soup, Thai salad, and drunken noodle (it's pretty much!stir fried chow fun with veggies and a choice of chicken or beef). Everything was pretty tasty. While the wonton wasn't as good as SF or Vancouver, it was excellent for Cortez, CO and better than I was expecting. The Thai salad offered a lot of veggies, something that seems like people in these parts do not eat. I was very happy to eat veggies in the calm and quiet if my inn room. The food is over priced for what you get!!! We ordered fresh spring rolls with shrimp. When we got our order, (30 mins later) I took a bite and literally no shrimp!!! I opened it up and 1 shrimp cut in half to try and make up the length!!! Then I was surprised by the variety of Thai food in the menu. Ordered 3 dishes: Gang Peth Ped Yang (red curry with roasted duck and pineapple), Hor Mok Seafood (MUST TRY), and Gai Him Ma Parn (chicken with cashew nut), all came out to be so spectacularly savory. Visiting from California and had Red curry Shrimp for lunch. It was delicious with 5 shrimp and lots of tender vegetables. My husband had Beef Pad Thai which he liked a lot. I left not a drop of the tasty sauce that was thin enough to be eaten like a soup. It was fabulous. Just the right amount to make you not too full. Reasonable lunch prices. read more

Just ok. We were so excited to pull into town starving and see a Thai restaurant jut a few blocks from our motel. We decided for take out rather than descend up the restaurant with 10 people. Service for carry out was quick. About 20-30 minutes for a large order. We ordered the green curry chicken, egg noodles with chicken, pad see ew, dumplings, edamame, and pho. Overall the green curry was good. Decent flavor with eggplants included. However really didn't have a robust well rounded taste that I like. The served the dish with a stickier rice which I think was a mistake. I didn't return to replace it since they were closing. The pho was also the same with ok flavor but not deep meaty taste. Dumplings were a little dry but I did enjoy their soy sauce with vinegar. Very Asian! Egg noodles were not well liked. Very bland and almost lard nar-like. Not the way ba mee is supposed to be. Pricing was average but not cheap. It's great to see Cortez have ethnic restaurants like this. Overall good but not great Thai food. read more

We are in town visiting family and I am very partial to the Thai restaurant we frequent at home so I was a bit hesitant to try this out. However it is well rated, so we tried it out. I am very pleased that we did as everything our party had was excellent. As full time travelers, we visit a lot of restaurants and, I have to say, we had one of the best meals we've had in years. Residents & visitors of Cortez are fortunate because Thai Cortez stands shoulder-to-shoulder with restaurants in major metropolitan areas. Our first visit was on a Friday night and the place was packed; we came back, later the next week with two friends and it was also busy. Word gets around. Everything about the place is great: staff is very friendly; the furnishings are sparkling and the seating is comfy. Every single dish we've ordered is like a photo shoot: the detail in the food presentation tells us someone in the kitchen cares a lot about first impressions. The food is fresh, well seasoned and the servings are perfect. So far, we've had Tom Yum soup (very spicy), Tom Kha soup (yummy), and both the fresh Veggy Rolls with shrimp and the Thai Dumplings were excellent. We've sampled two of the Roasted Duck entrees (Ped RaChiNee and Ped Nam Ma Kham), the Pad Peth Ta Lay (stir fried seafood) and Pad Khing and all were excellent. Our only regret is we're in town for only a month and won't be able to sample everything on the menu! Pro tip: go early or late to beat the rush, and, remember, excellent food does not come out in five minutes. read more

Was stuck in Cortez for an evening and found this place on yelp as a dinner option other than Denny's or McDonalds. I wasn't sure what to expect from a Thai restaurant in southwestern Colorado, but was very pleasantly surprised. I had the Tom Yum soup and the Thai Fresh Rolls - both were delicious and....fresh. Easily the best green curry I've ever had, and I eat at Thai restaurants regularly because I am a vegan. My boyfriend is an omnivore and had pad kee mow and loved it. The food was actually spicy at mild plus, which is a big deal for me. Additionally, the presentation for ever dish we saw go by was beautiful. If you are vegetarian or vegan, be very careful if you eat here. I ordered Pad See Ew with no egg. It came with egg as well as bits of chicken and bone in it! I brought it to the attention of the waiter, and the owner came back to me saying the bone was "crispy bits of tofu". I was too tired to argue (and regret that now), but needless to say I couldn't finish my plate after that. It's really unfortunate because their cooking seems to be very good. Thai Cortez is the BEST THAI restaurant in the US I have tried (from cheap joint to expensive fine dining type in Atlanta, DC, and Seattle metro areas), way above anyone else. It is as close to the Thai food in Thailand as you can get. I was eating in restaurants and food markets in northern Thailand that barely anyone speaks English (or Chinese) and I had to order by pointing. And I would say Thai Cortez reproduced those favors very well, except the gap your cannot overcome due to the ingredients. Like, if you cannot get Thai mango that ripens on the tree and make it into a mango smoothie in two days, you are not going to get the best Thai mango smoothie. However, again, I believe THEY USED as GOOD and MANY INGREDIENTS as they can get. Their Tom Yum soup used lemongrass, lime juice, basil leaves, coriander seed, and likely Thai Chill at least. I was surprised that they can even get everything there. I go to two different farmers markets in a metropolitan area like Atlanta or Seattle to get all of them. There is always one or two items not fresh in one market. If you saw some reviews that complains about the ratio of price and portion, I want to say this is not the cheapest place in the world to eat (not a McDonald), but YOU GET MORE THAN YOU PAY FOR. For Tom Yum, most other Thai places I have been to basically just used tomato to create the sour favor instead of lime juice, some cheap chill paste or pepper flakes for the hot favor, and I have never seen or tasted lemongrass or basil leaves. For curry, most other places just add some cheap chill source into coconut milk. I bet Thai Cortez made their own nam priks for Tom Yum and green curry at least. It usually takes me about three hours active cooking time to make one of the dish right (of course I am no professional). All in all, considered that how much effort the chefs put into the food, their prices are very fair. If you know anywhere in the US that used as many fresh ingredient to make as sophisticated Thai dish at a lower price, please please let me know. Just wanted to say I miss Thai Cortez every time I crave Thai food. I wish the chefs and staff will keep up the excellent work and encourage everyone to give them at least one try! We were on a National Parks tour through Colorado and on these kinds of road trips, I don't really expect very good food. Granted, it's a bit better in Colorado as opposed to other states we've toured but in small towns, I just don't expect much. I'm from the LA area and getting Thai food at this level of taste, cleanliness and quality is very difficult, and can be expensive. This place is a gem. The citizens of Cortez need to realize what they have here... this place could rival any awesome Thai place in Los Angeles. I was floored when I took my first bite of food... I couldn't believe it.
