I got charged 3x from my total cost. There system sucks, it doesn't work. So they have to pass your card multiple times, meaning it's charges your card every swipe. Merced is indeed best known for their Thai food! At Thai Cuisine II, their customer service is up to par. They're extremely kind and attentive to you and your order. Personally, I would recommend the crispy fried tofu appetizer, pad thai, thai special fried rice, panang curry and thai tea (non-dairy). I do wish that the pad thai was not as "wet," but that is more of a personal preference rather than a kitchen mistake! The dishes are all very flavorful and unique from the other restaurants I've tried in the area. They give a decent portion of food that you may split with a friend and the restaurant itself has a nice, casual atmosphere for you to enjoy your food. One of the best Thai places to go to, very authentic they take care of substitutes and eliminating ingredients when you need to. I order pad kee mao, one of my favorite dishes, Pad Thai, pho, salads there are the best. Be careful with the spice levels though because they don't exaggerate with it. I don't complain about it since I love spicy but I've heard customers complain about it before. I take my parents here time to time. Only one situation I had with them (about a month ago) was ordering pickup. I ordered Thai tea but because it had too much ice I had asked the waitress to fix the ice for me and she started to argue that she had already made the tea, I have problems with too much ice because it gets watery and it doesn't taste like tea anymore and sometimes it gets in the way of drinking, my preferences I guess. But complaining about fixing ice on Thai tea was kind of funny to me. She complained to co-worker about it in front of me, I didn't want to call her out and argue but I do wish I had told her to put less ice (I was grabbing my money in the car before I knew she made it). I used to work at a Thai restaurant by myself, I understand how stressful it can be, I would be lucky to at least ask my co workers to do it for me if I have my hands full or be patient with the customer asking something so simple. If you can't enjoy working at a restaurant or learn to be patient or calm in a environment don't over stress yourself working there is an advice I would like to give. Tried this place for the first time. Ordered the #1 salmon special. The menu said it has a sweet red curry with coconut milk. I asked the waitress if it was a Panang style curry. She said yes. I have made Panang curry from scratch and this was nowhere near it. It wasn't even sweet like the menu said. It was more like red country gravy. Kind of thick also like it was cooked with corn starch. I had to add fish sauce to give it some salty flavor. The vegetables were cooked good. The iced tea was ok. Very light color. The only reason I'm giving three stars is the inside is nice and clean, also because the waitresses didn't stop moving ! They may have stopped for about 5 seconds. Save your wallet and order together. Not worth it to each a quarter of your food then bring it for the following day. It's just not as good. Other than that it's a great quick little fine dining in Merced. Not really their fault but the parking. If you drive a big car like I do, it's best to reverse park. This place was so bad we left before getting our food. The floor plan is horrible to begin with meaning the seating available is poor. They have no lobby, just tables and chairs right in front of the busy front door that they expect you to sit at. When we finally got seated, there were cobwebs on the walls and in the corner they seated us, the walls were filthy and there were bugs crawling on them!! When our waiter came back to talk to his friends and was about to leave to the back again, I was finally able to get his attention and told him we have been sitting there for a long time and would like some refills and also questioned where the other appetizer was (15 minutes after the first one was served.) He said it was on its way and asked us if we wanted refills after I just asked him...Finally got our drinks and said the other appetizer was coming, by that point I was done. He came back and I told him, we just want to pay for the appetizers and leave. He said ok and said he will put it in a box. Well, it took forever, I don't know if they had to go make the boxes themselves but it took about 10-15 minutes again for him to just put it in a box and bring it out. We paid, left and never looked backed. I really expected much more from this place. Food wise, even though I only had a chance to eat a spring roll, I have had much better. The peanut sauce is not what I am used to, it was watery not creamy. Never again will I ever go back nor recommend it to anyone. We should have just gone to Lucky Pho like we originally planned and we NEVER had to leave a restaurant like that even when Coolhand Lukes was in town. As a foodie, I am surprised that I have only visited this restaurant once. But once was enough to try the food and really enjoy it. The atmosphere was nice and homey, while the service was fast and on point. I ordered the green curry with pork and had to order the rice separately. The green curry sauce was VERY good, as it had a nice consistency and color yet tasted unique and savory. So of course with the rice it just became a really delicious curry rice...YUM. I usually always get the Thai Fried Rice with no tomatoes or the Pad Se Ew with extra broccoli or Pad Thai. If you're looking for good Thai food with a consistency this is the place to go to. The portions is really big as well. I always go home with lots of left overs. The service however honestly depends on the day. Sometimes it is fast and attentive but there are some days where I had to wait 30 mins or so for my food to come in. Coming from the Bay Area with endless options of Thai restaurants, Thai Cuisine II definitely compares to some of the best out there. I come here pretty often and a staple I always get is their Pad Thai. It's honestly one of my favorite Pad Thais as their sauce has a nice sweet and tanginess to it. You have the option of getting beef, chicken, or combo (seafood + beef + chicken). They have pretty generous portions as I never seem to finish my plate when dining in. I've also gotten their Pad See Ew, and though it's very good, it still doesn't compare to the Pad Thai. One suggestion, is that if you come with a large party is to call ahead in advance. The restaurant fills up pretty fast, and when this happens service tends to be slow due to the influx of customers. Take out is always a good option as well. I've learned about this place in 2011 because of college. My friends are always raving about how good their food taste, and I couldn't agree more. I do have my reasons for the low ratings though... Atmosphere (3 stars): I like their variety of music. There's at least 15 tables here that seats at least four people per table. They will push tables together if you come with a big party. Seating isn't too much of a problem, unless you visit during busy hours (lunch and at or around 6pm). It's a popular place located in a small shopping center with other restaurants (Starbucks, wingstop, etc), so sometimes take-out may be the better option. FYI: if you are seated in the booth on the side near the bathroom, you will be neglected more than other tables. Service (2 stars): whenever I order take out, whether coming in person to order or calling in, it takes over 30minutes for my single order to be ready. I usually order take out for myself, so I'm only ordering one entree (I.e pad Thai). The wait is ridiculous for take out. The wait is ridiculous to be seated. One time I visited with my friend, it was our turn to be seated but one of the waiters sat his friends down before us and they arrived at least 10minutes after us. This was very rude and unacceptable. However they're in luck, Bobby, one of their waiter is great. If it wasn't for his service, I wouldn't bother to dine in or visit as often. Another incident was when I ordered take out, and they messed up my order but didn't apologize, and made me wait another 20 minutes for them to "correct" the order. I don't feel that this is a customer-oriented restaurant. Food (3.5 stars): I love their pad Thai, but sometimes it's inconsistent. I don't know if there are several chefs or what, but sometimes the food is too dry or too oily. I also wished that they would put more tofu into their pad Thai, it's cheap but they only give you 2-3 small pieces and if you want more, you would have to pay $2. Note that the $2 add-on only gives you maybe 5 pieces more than what it already comes with. Same with their pad se-ew, sometimes it's too dry or too oily but it's also one of my favorite dishes. When I'm not interested in a noodle or rice dish, I order there beef and meatball noodle soup. It's already really good, and very reasonably priced. I would recommend this, but again, sometimes the soup is bland and tastes watered down. I would give this place a higher rating if the food was a bit more consistent and the services improve. Give this a place at least one shot before shooting it down, you might get a better experience than me. read more
