Do not order Crab wontons. You will be disappointed.
Shelly J.

I've been on vacay...and working..etc.. no time to stop to do groceries or have it delivered... So I decided on trying again Thai Express over my usual Thai place.. if yall know me...yall know I love Thai! Soooooooo... This place is NOT what it used to be. I strongly discouraged from ordering from here and don't use UBER eats etc. So apparently they have a BOGO special with crab wonton. My greedy self was happy!! They are suppose to contain crab right?? What i got was fried crispy dough with a smear of cream cheese and some unknown herb / seasoning. Both orders where like this 7.99. The saying goes if its too good to be true it probably is... yep... My Pad Ew was bland it lacked flavor . Not what it used to be. I ordered Thai ice tea but they didn't double check before delivering. Oh I did call but no one could understand? Customer service -1 star. I'm stick with THAI TItanium. Avoid avoid!

Been coming to Thai Express for years now and its a solid 4-star take out / sit down for lunch Thai place especially for their specials. The menu is basic, but solid with your typical Thai options like Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Drunken Noodles, etc. However they do serve "Chefs Specialties" depending on the season. For example on my recent visit I got the Pumpkin Curry special, which was very good. Along with a Thai Tea, which is almost a requirement! Service has always been friendly and quick whenever we eat in too, and the place is clean. Location is good, its a little hidden in the Kentlands (behind the Panera) but plenty of parking around. Overall as I said, a solid 4 star experience. Nothing that will knock your socks off or unique, but just a good lunch time Thai place.

TAKEOUT EXPERIENCE: This was a very good Thai takeout experience. I ordered online for pickup. The ordering process was simple and easy. Within 15 minutes of ordering, the food was ready upon arrival. The food was delicious. Ordered Thai Fried Rice and Basil Fried Rice. Both were some of the best I've had in the DMV. They were flavorful, hot, and the Basil Fried Rice had the right amount of heat. I ordered with mild spice level and probably could have increased it to a spicier level considering mild virtually had no heat. For the quantity and quality, the price was right. The restaurant itself is quite small, however, there is seating in the dining room. Overall a good experience. I will try them again good. Give them a try.

Don't judge a book by its cover! This tiny step-above a take out joint has amazingly tasty food! The Pad See Ew and Lad Na (both beef) were amazing!! As great as I've ever had both!!! The balance of flavors was signature, perfectly cooked noodles, veggies and the beef!! Truly worthy of 5-stars!! As a Fresh Garden Roll and Satay purist, I miss a good thick peanut sauce. But the rolls were otherwise big and tasty! The Thai Spring rolls were great too!! Come hungry and enjoy!!

Thai express is one of, if not the best Thai spots in the 301. Sooo consistent, their curry dishes have always been my favorite. Would definitely recommend. Good price/portion too

Red Curry and Noodle Tom Ka Soup
Boris W.

My family has visited this place no less than five times in recent months - all takeouts. We've tried their Green, Red, and Penang Curries; as well as their noodle dishes and Tom Ka and Tom Yum Soup. Our overall experience has been pretty great. We rated their spicy Red Curry, Tom Yum Soup, and drunken noodles as 5/5. These dishes are simply amazing and their price points are spot on. My advice with the Red Curry is to mix half to two-thirds of the rice with all of the curry. This will make the dish really creamy and delicious! As for the drunken noodles, be sure to eat it as soon as possible, because the noodles get really soggy after 45 minutes in the container. The flavor and the texture is the best when eaten within 15 minutes. The noodle dishes' rating go down by 0.5 after every 15 minutes. So after an hour, the dish is like a 3/5. We rate the other curries, Tom Ka Soup, and other noodles around 4.5. These dishes are also delicious but we simply prefer the ones above. The Tom Ka Soup without the noodle is a bit too rich/creamy for me. The other curries (excluding Red) still brought the spices and heat. However, I believe the Red outperforms the Penang and Green simply because Red's taste is richer and more flavorful. The overall cost for an easy meal here is only around $11 and even if you throw an appetizer in there, it's less than $17-20 for an app+entree after tax and tips. Thai Express is a great place for a quick/easy/delicious takeout!

Drunken Noodles with chicken

I was pleasantly surprised this place had outdoor seating. They have three tables with 7 chairs total outside and it was easy to combine it for my party of 5. The service was awesome even though we sat outside. They first brought us water without us even asking and refilled it frequently throughout the visit. We were checked on a couple times and they asked permission to clear our plates and table. I requested the both the salads and pad thai to be extra spicy while the other dish to be mild. I found the pad thai and both the salads to be flavorful. While the spice level in these 3 dishes were mild to average to me, it would be considered very spicy for the average person. It seemed that specifically requesting the drunken noodles and basil fried rice mild meant the flavor was also less intense but overall the dishes were still good. The prices are also pretty good. It only cost $54 for the 6 dishes we ordered (Lemon grass soup with chicken, green papaya salad, spicy chicken salad, pad thai, drunken noodles with chicken, and basil fried rice with beef). I love this place and cannot wait to go back and try their other selections.

Front during covid

I went to Thai express for #yelpbignightin one day early. I arrived and there were approximately 4 people waiting outside due to COVID restrictions. I ordered ahead via mobile order and it alerted me when my order was ready. My drive home was approximately 15 minutes long and the food was still steaming. The pad see ew with extra egg had just the right amount of sauce on it. The egg was fried at a super high heat and the best part of the dish. The panang curry was ordered as a medium spicy and I would say their spice levels are true spice levels and not "American" spicy; which tends to be less spicy. The Tom ka gai soup was good, but not super noteworthy. I like it will a tart forward flavor that feels close to a slap on the cheek, But this wasn't that type of soup. All in all it was a great experience!

My husband and I shared two meals. Drunken Noodles and Basil Fried rice. Both were delicious! Drunken Noodles was my favorite. Just the right amount of spice.

I ordered lunch here through Grubhub. The shrimp basil fried rice was delicious and the flavors were good. The food had a nice spice to it, would definitely order again.

Fish sauce still leaking out.

Whenever I get regular spicy at a Thai place I normally expect to be hit with a kick of spice that hits the tongue. Except here everything was just so sweet it made me somewhat nauseous. Most of the soup dishes had similar based of noodles, protein and herbs. Unless you enjoy overly sweet dishes this wasn't for me as I'd prefer a spicy yet savory kick in my Thai dishes with a slight sweetness. It shouldn't be overpowering. Papaya salad reg spice was sweet. No kick whatsoever. Just papaya shaving, some iceberg lettuce at the bottom and some halved grape tomatoes. Khao soi noodle soup a sweet curry broth. A bit too sweet. Also got it with a tempura chicken but it was mostly fried wonton skin and barely any chicken. Chicken was also dry and hard. Tom yum noodle soup A creamy yet spicy "tom yum" broth. It has somewhat of a kick but for regular spice level it was still too sweet. Even with all the red pepper flakes. It was also missing the lemon grass scent in most tom yum soups I'm used to. Thai noodle soup The only non-spicy dish. Broth was a clear base that was somewhat better after all the sweet dishes. But a little bland. Thai green tea was good though. Just a bit sweet but need to be drank with ice.

The fried spring rolls were super! And good the sauce was too. The Thai and lychee and Thai tea are spectacular. The best Thai tea I've had perhaps. Veggie dumplings are also SPECTACULAR!!! Red curry panang was Super good and coconut flavored . It was a bit too strong and rich for me but definitely good. Shrimp black pepper was good! Pad Thai with tofu so good!!! The peanut hint was delicious and the noodles had a perfect texture Pad kaprow was pretty good and a little spicy. The drunk noodle was ok. Not crazy about the noodle texture but the chicken on its own is ok. The combo of the noodle chicken and veggie isn't bad but I'm not crazy about it because of the noodles. The beef is a bit too chewy and I'm not crazy about the taste (bland). All in all the main dishes were very good and so were the apps!
