Stopped in for a quick lunch and me and my bestie tried our usual Thai dishes. We both did the lunch special which lets you choose an egg roll or small salad as an app and then choose your meat with your lunch meal. Since we were feeling hungry (aka we are piggies) we also ordered calamari and papaya salad. The calamari and papaya salad came out quick. The papaya salad tasted great and the calamari seemed to be a touch overbreaded, but the calamari inside was cooked perfectly. Our entrees came out quickly after we cleaned our app plates and the drunken noodles were rich with sauce and a good amount of chicken to noodles. The other dish we ordered was beef Penang and it was delicious! There was a great heat to the sauce and my friend and I could have probably drink the sauce alone (or probably could have gotten another bowl of rice). I expected some kind of a fast food experience because of the name of the place so I was surprised when the friendly waitress greeted me at the door and seated me. The place is very small but very neat. Warm dark colors and nice jazz made the ambience pleasant. The food was excellent and affordable. I had the basil leaves lunch special for $6.99 including a miso soup. The soup was delicious: probably the nicest tofu cubes I ever had in miso. The Ka Prow was spicy but not unbearably hot as promised. Zesty fresh vegetables, nicely done chicken, tasty sauce that was not too greasy. This place greatly exceeded my expectations. I wasn't quite sure what to think about this place when we sat down to eat. I mean, what is a Thai Express anyhow? Does that mean it's "fast food" thai-style? Is is a take-out kinda place? Is it Americanized-Thai food only? What??? On an early Saturday evening, this place was very quiet. - Curry puff pastries came out piping hot, not greasy, and uber flaky just the way mom would make her curry pastries! I would have liked more meat than just one piece I found amongst the 3 served. - Fried Spring Rolls also came out piping hot and not dripping with grease, but the two rolls looked so lonely on their plate, perhaps more friends next time? - Complimentary Salads - It's a salad, come on, I can't really say much except that the lettuce was fresh (and not soggy) and the sweet and sour-ish dressing was a nice touch. - (Beef) Drunken Noodles - We asked for it to be mild (sorry, no fire-breathers in our house) and again, not greasy (can you tell I don't like my stuff slathered in butter and/or grease?), perfectly cooked. - Pineapple Fried Rice - No friends needed here, this was a hearty portion (and I can't use more adjectives to describe fried rice because its FRIED RICE. As long as it's not.......Greasy, I'm good). - Mango Sticky Rice - Mango's were a bit on the tart side, but it balanced out quite well with the warm & sweet sticky rice. Yes, the place isn't terribly big, but it's nicely decorated, clean, and chic. I will admit that for Kentlands, this place is as "Thai" as some get, but there are in fact some very good Thai authentics (totally not what we ordered btw, so stop judging). The food portions seemed on the smaller side, but between the two of us, we had 2 drinks, 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and 1 dessert - $38 sans tip, which was Totally not bad. 4.5 Stars. Later: "I ate aaaall the chicken satay and it was awesome." Delicious food, smooth experience. I ordered online on Yelp, which I guess goes through GrubHub. After a little while I called the restaurant to see if they could estimate a delivery time, and they were like, here's your driver, she's leaving literally right now. Everyone was nice and the food arrived in only 5 minutes. Pleasant interaction at the door, the food was packaged well and hot. The vegetable dumpling appetizer order gave two dumplings. They were just vegetables inside, not spiced--not what I wanted, but looking again at the menu, I see that's what I ordered. The chicken satay: awesome (clearly). The Chiang Mai Curry Noodle (Khao Soi) was good and gave leftovers. We didn't know at first to combine some of the ingredients that were packaged separately, but then we figured it out, and it was tasty; next day, too. read more

We ordered take-out on a Saturday night. Spring rolls were fresh & crispy. Lo-mein was ok, a little greasy but good flavor. The panang curry was ordered "mild" - it was so hot neither of us could eat it & I tossed the whole thing. I was really looking forward to the mango sticky rice - which was left out of my order!! Bad service. I ordered online through GrubHub. When I arrived at the expected time they were not ready. They made me wait another 25 minutes. This is in addition to the wait GrubHub gave me. No food is worth this kind of wait and level of service. I'm ashamed to say I didn't even know this place was here until a few weeks ago. I met up with a group of friends for lunch and overall, my experience was good. It's an intimate setting. Small area with a few tables... every seat is a window seat. We were lucky enough to get there before the lunch crowd (about 11:45a/12p.) The table service was actually really quick... not so friendly, but definitely quick. Our server seated us and brought the drinks within the first 5 mins of us sitting down. They offer a pretty affordable lunch menu with a decent number of items to choose from. Lunch combo gives you an entree and a small appetizer. I ordered the Chicken Pad See Ew with a spring roll. Everything was fresh and hot off the stove. The flavors were perfect, no need to doctor anything up. And most of all, I was so full! I tried to save half for when I got home after work, but I ended up eating before I even left work for the day. So, that's a sign that it was delicious. I definitely recommend this place for lunch. Super tasty Thai place, so glad we found it! They have tons of vegetarian options including tofu dishes, vegetable noodle dishes, and vegetarian curries! They also have a lunch special (I think it's every day from 11:30am-3:00pm) where you get an appetizer (choice of miso soup, spring roll, or a small salad) and an entree (they had a list of something like 12 options with choice of protein, including curries, pad thai, sweet and sour, cashew nut, and drunken noodles). The price depends on your protein, but starts at $7.99 for the chicken or vegetarian option. I ordered vegetable Tom Yum soup (it cost $3.49) and the lunch special. For the lunch special I picked a spring roll and vegetable drunken noodles. It was absolutely delicious, and the portion sizes were perfect. I have enough to take my leftovers with me to work tomorrow for lunch (the take-out containers are excellent quality, by the way)! The Tom Yum soup was tangy, spicy, and satisfying. I also got a Thai iced tea (it cost $2.95), which was very tasty. It paired well with my meal, and cooled my mouth alongside my spicy dishes! My boyfriend ordered the lunch special with miso soup and Massamun curry. He loved his meal, particularly the rich and mild curry! I tried a taste of his miso soup, and it tasted great as well! It was an awesome lunchtime meal. The service was also good! Our water glasses were always full, and we were well attended to by the waitress. Mediocre food at best. Loved the website and proximity to my job. So one day I decided to try it out - especially since my favorite Thai place nearby was closed. I placed my order online easily and food was ready and very hot when I picked it up. Cant say the lady at the front was that friendly when I came in but I took my food and left. I wasn't surprised when I got my car and saw that there were ZERO napkins or plastic utensils to eat with. Thankfully, I carry several in my car for establishments like this who persistently forget or leave it out. I mean, I spent almost $40 and you can't give me one plastic fork?! Anyway.. The vegetable spring rolls were very hot which I appreciate. I ate those quickly with the sweet sour sauce it came with and tried not to burn my mouth. The rest of food was bland and boring. The pad thai was wrapped and served in foil. The vegetables in brown sauce looked amazing and colorful but lacked flavor. Pretty much what you'd expect from a "fast food" Thai restaurant in regards to the food quality. I had the veg tofu (ask for tofu, I didn't see it on the menu) pad Thai, and my friend had the veg tofu lo mein. I liked mine, and would order it again. The lo mein I would not order. It wasn't a traditional tasting lo mein sauce to me. Also, our tofu was well-cooked. The server was very quick, but seemed overwhelmed - there were only 3 other 2-4 top tables, so maybe they just had a rush or something. There were 2 dirty tables, one of which we wanted to sit in so she cleaned it first for us. She saw us look at menus when we walked in, so I'm guessing that's why we weren't offered them when we sat down. We did know what we wanted, but still it's nice to look again at appetizers or something. Other than those little things and the lo mein, it was a decent experience. read more

This has become my go-to for Thai in the Kentlands area. For the price and the convenience, it wins hands down. The calamari, even when ordered delivery, arrives hot and crispy. Never once have I gotten limp calamari, I can't rave about this enough. I don't think they believe me when I ask for SPICY, otherwise, this is good thai - this is cheap thai - this is convenient thai. I like the food at another local Thai restaurant better, though. But last week i was shocked at the anger and rude service i received by the new staff. My Wife and Child were almost in tears at the treatment we received plus the food was REALLY bad tasting. We went back for lunch today and ate in. We tried the curry puffs which were a better appetizer than the dumplings. The server is super informative, patient, and attentive. The food was freshly prepared and delicious. My wife tried the generously portioned Thai iced tea and loved it. I don't know if I can steer away from the pad see ew; too good! This is basically the only Thai place in the area that will deliver to my apartment, which is a large part of what led me to them. Sometimes you just want curry without having to go to the trouble of putting on clothes and moving from in front of Netflix. Is it the best Thai food that I've ever had? No. That honor falls to a hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Chicago, and even in this area there are others that I actually prefer a bit more (but they sadly won't deliver). While it's not amazing, though, it's definitely solid. They're usually pretty fast at delivery, or at least on a comparative level with other places in the area. The food is consistently good, which is saying quite a bit considering I've basically been slowly making my way down their menu. Overall, I definitely recommend this restaurant if you're ordering delivery or pick-up. I've never actually eaten in the restaurant itself, but based on the handful of times I've stopped by to pick up my food instead of just having it delivered, I can definitely understand the reviews that say it might not be the best place for eating out. read more

For takeout - This place is exceptional. Fast delivery. Solid food, packed with logic and precision, in adequate portions at a reasonable price. I am a simple person. Bring me my Tom Ka Soup in non-biodegradable plastic, at a temperature that still requires cooling gusts on the spoon. I want to pry open the aluminum's vice like grip on the plastic lid so that I can attack the pad Thai with shrimp with loads of chopped peanuts. That's it. Nothing fancy. Curry. Drunken noodle. I've been on the search for some quality Thai in the area and I think I've finally found it. Don't let the "express" in the title fool you - this place is A+. The shrimp pad Thai was incredible with tons of peanuts, huge pieces of egg, tons of shrimp, and just the right amount of sauce. The Thai ice tea was top notch as well and I really appreciated how they waited to put the ice in until I arrived to pick up my order. I ordered the Pad Kraprow and Thai Spring Roll. The spring roll was perfectly fried, not one bit of grease at all. The filling was moist and perfectly seasoned. The dipping sauce had the perfect complement of sweet and Sour elements making the spring roll a perfect appetizer. The Basil Chicken was fabulous! Onions perfectly cooked, beans with a nice crunch and large pieces of chicken. The sauce was fortunately more like a well seasoned broth that absorbed into the accompanied white rice. The portion was more than I would have expected for a lunch special. This will be my new go to place for Thai food. I can't wait to try the rest of their menu!!! read more
