We ordered take out. I paid $3 extra for more vegetables on my noodles and got a few extra pieces of yellowish broccoli and those star-cut carrots that looked straight out of a pre-chopped industrial food service bag. Green (unripe) bell peppers. The chicken wontons had a tiny cube of chicken SPAM in the center, otherwise just fried noodle. The noodles in my Pad Kee Mao were not fresh, and very greasy. Felt pretty gross after eating and threw the majority of the food in the trash. Very disappointing. I wanted to try a nearby business, but there are plenty of really good Thai places in town at a similar price point. read more

Ordered from here a few times recently. The food always comes SUPER fast, like within 30 minutes of ordering it's at my door. Props for that! Tom Yum soup is amazing. And glad they actually kick up the heat when you request it extra spicy. Wontons are awesome. the sauce they come with is nuts. So good. Salad rolls are pretty meh. They are usually my go-to order for thai restaurants but here they just aren't flavorful, wrapping them in a noodle rather than a rice paper roll makes them soggy and fall apart, and the peanut sauce tastes like it's been sitting on a costco shelf for a year. Last time I ordered the salad rolls, I just made my own peanut sauce. My husband has ordered the pad thai a few times. It's good but not spectacular. read more

Friendly staff, really good food, affordable. I've only eaten inside the restaurant twice, but I've gotten food to go about a dozen times. I've had lemon grass chicken, basil chicken, and Massuman curry (my favorite!). Food is good, but always better when you can sit inside and enjoy a meal. I'm excited about their restaurant finally opened up again.

We have been going here for over 15 years, and Thai Ginger has always been a consistently good place for pad thai, fried rice, tom yum and their curries. We hadn't been since May (we used to go every week or two), and something has changed. My pad thai tasted nothing like peanut - in fact, it tasted like there was ketchup in the sauce. What used to be generous portions of moist chicken are down by half or more, and it was dry and in very small pieces. The peanut sauce on the side also didn't taste like peanuts - it barely tasted at all and was the consistency of vegetable oil. There was something grainy in the fried rice (egg shell?). The inside of the restaurant was filled with supplies even though there was a group eating inside, It was pretty terrible - I don't think we'll be back. I have eaten here about a dozen times over the past 8years or so and it has always been great. Last night we ordered Pad Thai and 2 Pad kee mao, all the noodles were mushy, overcooked, sauce was not right, broccoli was almost raw and I found a piece of raw chicken in my pad kee mao with Shrimp!! Not sure what is happening with the cook, but I won't be going back for a long time!! :(( read more

This is our go to Thai place and they always have great stuff. Very friendly folks and they can whip up takeout in like 10 minutes. :)

Loved the food I ordered online. The food was delivered on a timely manner. The food was also hot when it was delivered to our home.

Everything is WAY too sweet. Americans like food that tastes like a snickers bar.. so I'm sure they're just sugaring up everything for that reason. but the food is pretty much inedible. unless you like capt'n crunch maybe read more

Solid Portland Thai. I usually order their yellow curry with chicken and it's consistently fresh and flavorful. Never have dined in.

I read that this place was supposed to be good, but unfortunately it was not for me. I ordered one of their peanut Thai specials and it was very very dry, like no sauce. I assume it's supposed to have a sauce because it is a pad Thai dish, but maybe I am wrong. Also they did not give me any utensils or napkins, this was a take out order. When I got back to my hotel I had to drive out to the closest store to get a fork because my hotel does not have a conti-breakfast so they didn't have anything I could use. This was a HUGE inconvenience after being in the road for over 6 hours (traffic wasn't great today). I didn't want to go out again that's why I ordered take out. Needless to say, despite the fact I am only driving through Portland today and will be gone tomorrow, I will not be a patron of this restaurant again. Hopefully if you do it will be a better experience than mine. read more

So far, so good. I only tried the massaman (chicken) curry and it was good. The chili oil on our table was very flavorful too. If I'm in the area, I'd come here again. Smallish parking lot shared by Papa Murphy's. Quick service. Modern interior, good ambiance for smallish place. read more

Something is wrong in the kitchen. When Pad-se-ew has no spice, flavor, and way to much Broccoli... someone has to say something. Granted, this is Portland and not Chan Mai and not everyone can cook these special dishes. But C'mon man... some of us have traveled through these United States and know when the food is made correctly. My food was not. This absolutely PAINS me to write this updated review. I had such fond memories of Thai Ginger from my University of Portland days. Nothing excited me more to dine at my favorite Thai restaurant upon my return to Portland after months of being away. However, I was quickly disappointed. We dined there on a Friday night during prime dinner time. It was surprising to see the restaurant empty minus a couple of UP students. Usually, this place is PACKED during lunch and dinner time. When our dinner came out, I saw/tasted why the restaurant was empty. My beloved Pad Thai (read my previous review) was lacking tremendous flavor! It felt like I was eating plain noodles with a dab of soy sauce here and there. To top it off, they raised the prices by a dollar since the last time I was there! I'm not sure how this place had gone downhill. Saddens me very very much. Now, I have to go on a hunt to replace my favorite Pad Thai restaurant... :( read more

Tried for the first time today. Ordered Chicken Laarb & the salad rolls. Asked for Peanut sauce instead. No problem. The service was fast. Had my food in about 5 minutes. What I got was so so. The salad rolls were bland. The Laarb has a different flavor. It's not bad, it's just weird. Like too much fish sauce. The laarb didn't come with any rice or basil, just plain cabbage pieces, and a little cilantro.I won't be ordering this again. Not that I'm giving up yet on the restaurant, just not a good start. read more

Sigh. Another cold, grey, non-spring-y day in April. I wanted warmth. Wanted spiciness. Went out seeking Thai. I felt like trying something different -- I mean, I ALWAYS get a curry. Curry, curry, curry. So this time, I ordered a green papaya salad and a fried tilapia with basil sauce. (I did get a Thai iced tea, though, as a token nod to the comfortably familiar.) His Goatness ordered the yellow curry, which he considers his benchmark for Thai. Salad arrived. The green papaya: delicate scent, pleasant fruit acids balanced against vinegar with a hint of fish sauce. Nice! Chunks of cabbage and shredded carrot: ho-hum and noncontributory to the flavor -- filler. And one pathetic, wan little half-ripe tomato that I should never have put in my mouth. Main courses: His Goatness' curry had a lovely flavor, but a paucity of veggies. My tilapia tasted delightful on first bite... then I noticed a particular aftertaste that had me running to the front: I forgot to ask if they used MSG! Oh No! After being assured that they don't, I returned to the tilapia... then hit this -- DIRT -- flavor in the middle of the fish. Bleah! (Where has this fish been?) And the basil sauce consisted of a lot of bottled fish sauce with some sad, wilted green stuff in it. No fresh basil or cilantro. The veggies were not overcooked, but were flagrantly overpowered by way too many green peppers. That's when the waiter returned to our table to tell me that the sauces they use that are bottled can contain MSG (so I was likely not mistaken about THAT taste) -- they just don't label what's in the sauce. I stopped eating immediately. I guess we'll see if I seizure later. read more

Never had a bad experience here. Consistently delicious. Pretty fast. Typically busy. At this time, only serving to go. Have tried most non-seafood items on their menu and have always been pleased. I used to love this restaurant . It was our families go to Thai spot for years . Recently I believe in the last year, I have noticed a real change to the food at this restaurant . The menu didn't change but the taste did. The last time, yesterday , I got take out, they forgot to put the base ( the flavoring) in the soup. Either that or their lemongrass noodle soup is now chicken noodle - no lemongrass included. Unfortunately that is only one example of many disappointing or not great meals I have had over the last year at Thai Ginger. I'm sorry to have to say this as I have been eating here since the first owner opened the restaurant . This last go around with the new owner does not appear to be going well, according to the food . Another FANTASTIC THAI restaurant in PDX! My friend & I had to try this place after hearing & reading about how good it was. This is definitely at the top of my favorite Thai restaurants because their Pad Kee Mao was absolutely SUPERB!! Minutes after ordering, out comes this large dish of colorful veggies, soft wide noodles & tofu. I couldn't believe the assortment of tomatoes, green & red peppers, green onions, basil, broccoli, carrots & bean sprouts. I've never eaten drunken noodles with so many variety of veggies. It was great! What else was great? The soft, wide noodles & large pieces of tofu couldn't have been any better! WARNING! Spiciness scale is serious! If you're looking for spicy, go for either a level three but be careful when opting for four. Level four will bring sweat & quite possibly tears; no joke! Fast service? Yes! Friendly service? Yes! this place is located in a teeny strip mall(4shops) about 10min away from the Best Western. its a small joint but apparently doing pretty well because at the time we tried this place, they were pretty busy. they have a descent dining area to sit and enjoy some thai food. good menu selection. we ordered the Pad Thai, Yellow Curry, Beef Basil, ...came with a bowl of steam rice all dishes looked great, nice serving size ...good amount of spice right off the bat(and we ordered 'mild'). the staff was very friendly and attentive. good place to eat for any visitors tor Portland who want to change up their meal choice read more

If you're looking for really, REALLY good Thai food...Thai Ginger is definitely the place you should start. And end. They're fantastic. The service can be a bit iffy, though the last time I went it was great. They have a small seating area, but very nice and comfortable with all of their cute decorations and dimmed lighting. My FAVORITE dish is the House Special Seafood (#70). Mussels, shrimp, squid and veggies in a garlic sauce with a bowl of rice on the side...It's like seafood heaven in your mouth. I've tried other dishes, and they are all great too. My parents, who introduced me to this lovely little establishment, love the Thai Ginger Tea (I think that's what it's called). It makes me want to vomit my precious #70 out on the table, but I guess a lot of people like it, so maybe you should try. Thai Ginger is my second secret crush. read more
