This is a small Thai restaurant where you can go, take your kids, hang out for as long as you want, and enjoy the quaint and colorful ambience. I look forward to when the outdoor seating area opens. Coming from the bay area, we have a number of great Thai places here. However, in Napa, we wanted something quick and cheap and Thai Kitchen was the only restaurant in the area where you pretty much didn't need reservations. I love green curry and I ordered that, as did my friend. We also had a Larb Gai salad which is made out of lettuce, chicken bits, cilantro, peppers, onions with a fish sauce sorta dressing. Didn't impress me as I have had better in the Bay Area and it was a bit salty. The curry was extremely runny, but tasted good enough. Also had bamboo shoots in it (a lot) that was pretty good. Seems like it was more "homestyle" food then other Thai restaurants. The restaurant itself is a small hole in the wall type of place, family run it seems. I can't imagine there being many places of this type in the area. It is clean and well-run, couldn't complain about service. Came back to eat-in. And still 5 stars! Service was great, food was amazing. Wish i discovered this place earlier. All the staff appear to be Thai and really friendly. We ordered duck red curry and pork prik king. The red curry was authentic and duck meat was not too fatty. The prik king sauce with pork - DELICIOUS. spicy and full of flavor. Love this place. It's not fancy, it's not over the top, but it's comfortable, casual, with good and reasonably priced food (unlike, say, the Thai restaurant in Calistoga, whose dinner menu prices are 40%-50% more expensive) We've been going here as regulars for many several years in a row now... not as often now that we've moved further up-valley, but it's still one of our "go-to" haunts in Napa. The Pad Thai is okay, but other things are better -- Pad Se Ew is pretty great, so is the Duck Hot Basil, Pumpkin Curry, and Crab Fried Rice. The large hot-pot of Thai Wonton Soup (heated over sterno stove at the table) is also fun and tasty, and you can't go wrong with the Thai Iced Tea... I've been coming here for years and also go to the Thai Kitchen in American Canyon (same owners). The restaurant is small and it can get crowded at lunch--during the week. A few years ago, they made an area outside with tables. It has helped to increase capacity and is nice to have a little more space and fresh air. The restaurant is located next to the hospital and a bunch of MD offices. It's normal to see a bunch of people in scrubs eating lunch. Thai Kitchen has a daily lunch special, Mon thru Friday. It includes soup or salad and rice with your main dish. Their won ton soup has good flavor and so I always get the soup instead of the salad. Some of my favorites entrees are: chicken massaman, beef pad see ew, beef praram long song or pad thai. The food is fresh and tasty! Is it the best Thai I've ever had? No, but it is pretty good. My one wish: Add boba as an option with the Thai iced tea. You can get it at the Thai Kitchen American Canyon but not in Napa. They have some really sweet staff that like to chat. In December when I was picking up a lunch order, they greeted me by name and gave me a small Christmas gift! Wow! read more

If you were to compare all the Thai restaurants in the bay area with the Thai Kitchen then this restaurant does not stand out in the crowd. But if you compare all the Thai restaurants in Napa, then this restaurant is very good. The recipes are farmiliar but the flavors are not very bright. The food could be more intersting. The spice blends are insignificant, the coatings are too heavy, even the rice is not so good. Even the Thai tea tasted stale. The portions are plentiful and vegetables are cut in decorative designs but it's just not that good. It's the only Thai restaurant in Napa that has outdoor seating and the patio can be nice. The only drawback is it sits in a dusty parking lot that has direct afternoon sun. The restuarant is often crowded and is compounded with the abnormally slow service. I'll eat there when friends insist, but it's not my first choice. The upside is, the restaurant is better than no thai restaurant and the doors stay open till 9 p.m. read more

Napa doesn't have much in the ways of Thai food. This restaurant is okay, but definitely doesn't compare to others in the east bay area. The atmosphere isn't great, the curries have mostly bamboo shoots and not much actual meat, and there aren't any good stir fry dishes to choose from. If you have a major Thai food itch that needs scratching, Napa probably won't serve your needs, and Thai Kitchen will most likely come up short. read more

I have been dining here and getting take-out for a number of years. I never thought the food was great, just ok. The food seemed to be lacking in flavor. I found that the pumpkin curry is my favorite item to order from this place and much better than some of the stir fry dishes, so I usually stick with it. My experience this week changed for the better. I went for dinner with my parents and just ordered a couple of dishes, my favorite pumpkin curry and the cashew chicken. The presentation seemed nicer and the food seemed fresher and more flavorful. I will have to go back and test but I believe they have done some improvements here recently and am very pleased and felt compelled to share the news. read more

A friend and I were in Napa and we had our tongue hanging out for Thai food. We saw this place tucked away in a shopping center and decided to give it a try. Thai food is my favorite and I thought since it said 'authentic' then this was the right place for our lunch. I ordered the Pad Thai (a staple) and my friend ordered Massaman curry with chicken. The chicken was spoiled in both dishes and the Pad Thai was loaded with ketchup (also they used cellophane noodles instead of Pad Thai noodles). Not a bad place! It was CROWDED when we came in around 6:30 on a Saturday night, so I knew that must be a good sign. It's a small little restaurant with a big menu. I ordered larb gai--my go-to--and my mom got pad thai. The larb was really good, and I ate the whole thing! I also ordered a cup of tom kha gai, and that was good, too (i really liked the chicken), but there were so many pieces of lemongrass and ginger that I had to be careful with each bite. Tom yum soup was decent, wasn't too impressed with the pad se ew. Very subpar with the flavor compared to other Thai places. Service was ok.

Take it all in. The re-model is fine with cool green paint and a back area ready for the fall. Dining inside or out is fine, but the back opens it up to more than 12 diners. I ate here about 15 times this year and disagree with many who do not like it. Here is what I can say: Service is fine. I have not noticed anyone waiting (other than for take out) more than should be expected. I like it Thai hot and it took me many attempts to get them to make the Prik King and Spicy Basil really hot. The last time I was there I had to wipe my eyes because I could not see the plate and knew: it was finally hot enough. You can always ask for the peppers in fish sauce which are really pretty good and hot. I am sort of vegeterian and they always figure out how to cook tofu unlike any way I can at home. How do they get it so firm and chewable? Thai Basil with Tofu (substitute thai chilis or jalapenos for bell peppers please) is really freakin hot and good. Nice firm tofu and not too much sauce. Served over lettuce leaf. Prik King with tofu is pretty much stir fry curry paste with green beans and add tofu. This kind of heat is for that expanding/contracting sinuses heat! All the curies: always pretty decent for lunch and usually one fresh local veggy in there. Ask for peppers in fish oil if it is not hot enough. If you are vegan or vegetarian, you can eat here. They get it and have a lot of food to offer at reasonable prices. I would remove the Singha placemats and replace with white linen under the glass. read more

I have eaten here twice and enjoyed the food (4+ stars!!), had noodle dishes both times. The dishes were very tasty with lots of fresh veggies and not too oily. The quantity was a bit small, but the great taste made up for it. Price about $8 The place was super crowded on Friday night around 7pm and they did not have enough help to handle it. Found this place on yelp, of course! We decided to order Massaman curry with ckn mild Red with ckn med Beef satay Beef fried rice I loved the red curry, it was perfect! Not too spicy and not too many veggies. The massaman curry was good also but could have used a bit more chicken. The kids didn't care for the beef satay because it had a peanut sauce on it. The beef fried rice was a huge hit and the gigantic pile was pretty much gone! I'd totally recommend going here and giving them a try as will I when in Napa again! read more

My surprise comes after my expectations were lowered by the really slow service, and the many tables in the room which had not been bussed after the earlier diners had left. Nice color scheme and decorations. Ambiance was a little light though, but at least they tried. Still, this is not the kind of place I would bring a date to. A single utensil each and paper napkins doesn't cut it for me. Also, show me an itemized bill at the end of the meal. Not just a list of the dollar figures, all added up.
