I don't know if this restaurant is under new management or has a different chef, but both dishes were horrible. Little shop located in a strip mall, smelled really yummy when we walked in. Started with the fried dumpling which we 5/5- thin skin, tender and delicious. I also had the Thai basil- while this one had good flavor, it was watery- which was fine also but the beef was chewy and dry. I ended up sopping with the rice and left most of the meat. We've been looking for a good place to eat pho but options are extremely limited close to the Boerne area. This place was recommended to me and we were very pleasantly surprised. I liked Thai Lao Orchid for their convenient location, good service, and good food. I went here with my parents when for lunch I was moving into San Antonio. We ordered a spicy tuna roll as an appetizer, and my parents ordered the Pho. I ordered the Pad Peht with tofu. All of the orders came with appetizers including salad or soup, depending on which plate you ordered. It came with a side of rice, vegetables, and tofu in a creamy coconut sauce. I ordered medium spicy, and it wasn't very spicy at all - I think that the coconut sauce negated some of the spices. That level of "spicy" was just right for me, but for people that really like spicier things, I'd go for higher spice levels. On some of the dishes, you have the option of ordering chicken, beef, pork, or tofu. I think that the shrimp/seafood costed a little more. The spicy tuna roll was really really spicy. I was sweating when I was eating it. I tried some of my parent's Pho's. It tasted different than the Pho's that I've had at other restaurants, but it was still good. I'm not too sure how I'd accurately describe the difference in flavor, but it seemed like it had a more herb-like aftertaste to the soup. My parents seemed satisfied with their lunch as well. The service was awesome - the waiter (I believe he was also the owner) checked in on us frequently, and made sure that we had everything that we needed. He was very prompt at getting us the things that we asked for, and we felt like we were well taken care of. To top it off, the interior was nicely decorated and clean. We ordered take out Saturday night with mixed results. We ordered the following: Fresh Spring Rolls with Shrimp Pan Seared Pot Stickers Miso Soup Pork Fried Rice Chicken Pad Thai The Fresh Spring Rolls with shrimp were fresh and tasty. The peanut dipping sauce was a tad thin and lacking flavor. Improve the sauce and it would be excellent. The Pan Seared Pot Stickers were very good, enjoyed them. The Miso Soup, flavorless and will probably just throw it away. Pass on it. The Pork Fried Rice was very good. I recommend it. My wife thought it was just ok, but I really liked it. The Pad Thai was very disappointing, flavorless and greasy. Pass on it for sure. Overall, 2.5 to 3 stars. We will try Thai Lao Orchid again, but will get a Curry dish. I've eaten Curry here for lunch many times and have never been disappointed. For some silly reason I forgot that and ordered the Pad Thai. Oh well, lesson learned. read more

The green curry had what tasted like frozen green beans in it, I'd prefer fresh or none at all. The rice was mushy & short grain. I even wondered if perhaps this was leftover food from the previous day. Overall I feel like they cut corners & these ingredients were cheaper, less fresh quality. I have to start off by saying that maybe I'm to blame because I came to a Thai place and ordered sushi, but if you have sushi on your menu, they have to be good too, otherwise just remove them and keep it to your strengths. The rice was though, the seaweed sheet was chewy instead of crunchy, the eel sauce was waaaayyy too thick, I'd never seen it like this in my life and now it makes sense that when I asked for some extra eel sauce on the side I got a ridiculous amount (as you can see in the picture). And maybe, giving them the benefit of the doubt that their Thai food is good, I just didn't order it to know for a fact. Ordered the Pad Thai and the Beef Basil for dinner. Both had very large portions, and both were very enjoyable. The beef basil was a level 3/5 on hotness and it was perfect heat.
