Kula, HI. This is a food truck parked in a cluster with several others. The setting has a carnival kind of vibe, both exciting and ominous. Well no bad guys ever showed up, and the hucksterism was pretty low key. The excitement was not to be had either but it was obvious that these trucks are feeding a lot of people. If they were only able to lower their prices even a little they could be feeding even more but I guess their overhead is probably pretty high even for a parked truck. Anyway I was expecting a bit lower price scale, but it is what it is. So .. For fifteen bucks plus tax and tips I got the seared salmon. The fish was nicely cooked, I enjoyed it. The vegetables were pretty meh but did help bring more of the sauce to the palate. Yes, the sauce was good, right on the verge of too much soy, but they did a good job keeping it balanced. The salmon portion size was small, but not insultingly tiny. Could have been a bit larger for the $15, the value is not there only if you compare to what you make at home, otherwise it's probably disappointedly normal. When you get your six inch diameter bowl you will see what I mean. The heap of rice made for good entertainment feeding the chickens. You're discouraged from feeding them so I just sat the bowl down behind the coffee guys trailer and watched them pig out. It is not exactly "Fast" food here, they are actually cooking the meal while you wait. I had my order in 12 minutes though, exactly how long she said it would take. read more

Very disappointed. Requested no tomatoes with the salmon, but to please add extra vegetables if can. The order taker said she would ask. Instead, got less vegetables than normal. Where's the broccoli, the carrots? It's many times hit or miss here when it comes to serving size. There was another time when we ordered extra vegetables and got less than a regular sized serving. I also feel that charging $4.00 for extra vegetables is extreme. I first gave 2 stars but changed to 3 because the food is really good. read more

This place was awesome!! It was, by far, the best pad Thai I had on the island! My husband had the Penang curry and it was SO good as well. Their prices were also the most affordable we had on our trip to Maui! If that wasn't enough, the atmosphere of their location, with an outside garden experience only added to the charm of this place. The staff were friendly and had samples they were offering guests. Did I say the food was amazing?!! We had eaten at Star Noodle in Lahaina just the night before, paid more than double what we paid here and we left underwhelmed and disappointed. I used to eat here often and tried most of the dishes, very tasty, well priced and filling. Somewhere along the way the price changed, but the signage didn't. So, what is advertised as a $15 order turned out to be a $16.79 order, then you add your tip, changes things a lot. Come on, lets have some honesty in your advertising please! When I picked up my food, my first thought was, "It feels so light!" Back at home when I unpacked, it was indeed about a half portion of what they used to serve. We like it and enjoy take out from here several times a month lately! Close to home so it's convenient, and they seem to be the one place that is consistently operating seven days a week, so are reliable, and the food is good! Spicy Drunken noodles are a favorite, as are Fried rice with shrimps, and Pad see ew too! Tonight I ordered cashew chicken and I really liked the basil influence and more veggies than some of the other items I have already mentioned. What's not to love? They got a good thing going in the Kula Malu food truck division. I look forward to trying the salmon special some night soon. read more

Good food truck food for a good price. The Green Curry was very mild, but tasty. Make sure to bring some time during peak lunch or dinner hours. It can be tough to secure one of the few shady spots to eat. Friendly and kind staff. read more

We eat here a lot and have noticed declining quality. Last night was not cool, though. I ordered Pad thai with chicken, which I've had many times from here. It was about 98% noodles, about 5 small bits of chicken, literally 1 shred of carrot, about 5 bean sprouts, some cilantro bits, a little egg, and that's about it. I was quite disappointed as other times there is a lot more to pad thai than just noodles. To spend an evening in Makawao these days, you have to head out of Kihei long before rush hour or you'll be stuck in Piilani highway traffic for ever, due to extra cars detouring from the washed out South Kihei Road. So, the plan was to leave the roost in mid-afternoon and check out the food truck park next to Longs in upcountry. If you haven't been there, it's not the easiest place to locate, but the Waze app will get you to Longs Drug and you can't miss it. The food truck park was larger than we expected. Lots of good choices, but Thai Mee Up was an easy choice. The girl taking our order was very pleasant and helpful, answering our questions about menu items. I got the Lemongrass Fried Chicken and it was ready in a few minutes because there wasn't much of a crowd. There are a few picnic tables inside the ring of food trucks and again, we were fortunate that there wasn't a crowd and we could sit. The entre came with a small cup of Green Papaya Salad that was very tasty with a little crunch and a sweet & sour dressing. The Lemongrass Chicken was good, with small pieces of chicken battered and fried, on a bed of rice. It came with a tiny cup of a great, sweet & tangy sauce that really wasn't enough for dipping all of the chicken pieces, let alone flavoring the rice. Didn't really get enough lemongrass flavor, either. Nice to have a square of banana leaf under the rice that prevented the rice from sticking to the compostable food box. I would like to order this dish again, but only if they give me more of the sauce. read more

Protip: They are open the latest out of all the other food trucks in the area. Highlights: For the flavor, price, and wait time, I would honestly recommend this food truck over the My Thai restaurant. I enjoyed the pad thai and cashew vegetable dish the most. Lowlights: There was only three shrimp in our shrimp pad thai which is definitely not worth the money. The lemongrass chicken had so much extra breading and very little chicken. read more

This is a food truck near Long's Drugs. I ordered the Pad See Yew (wide noodles) with chicken. I enjoy spicy foods and most Thai restaurants in America tone down their spice levels to suit the average American palate. I chatted with the woman taking my order at the window and asked for an 8 out of 10 spice level. It took around ten minutes or so before my order was ready, which is usually a good sign - it means they are cooking things to order, not grabbing from a pre-prepared container. My lunch came out, and it was fantastic. Nice and spicy, it left a nice little after-burn in my mouth - just enough to remind me of how good it was. I will be going back to try their other dishes. Remember, if you like spicy foods, order your spice level accordingly! read more

What a midtown gem! Wonderful staff and terrific curries at a really reasonable price. The panang with tofu was on the richer/creamier side suggesting the (proper) use full-fat coconut milk. Decent amounts of protein along with a balanced amount of veggies (see pic). A scoop of white rice is included in the $11 entree. Be forewarned it arrives scalding hot and takes about ten minutes to cool. Next time I'll take it home and more veggies (spinach, broccoli, and/or zucchini) as the broth could absorb double the provided amount. Also on a 1-5 scale the spiciness is about a 2... a little heat but no one's nose will be running ;) There is ample free parking next to the 6-7 food truck venue. And there are 7-8 picnic-style tables in the center. The only bummer was that we were 4th to order and that meant a 20 minute wait (the penalty for excellence). We hit the drugstore kitty corner to the food trucks to kill some time but you could also dash over to Maui Brewery about three doors further down. read more

To start this review off, I have multiple Thai restaurants back on the mainland. Yes, they are catered to its local taste, and yes its more americanized. Yet, I know how good Thai Food should taste like and yes, this place is spot on. I was pleasantly surprised to see a Thai food truck in the middle of a small town on my way up to Haleakala. I am glad I stopped in because the food was delicious. Prices were fair for Hawaii, probably on the low end to be honest and the entrees I ordered were flavorful and fresh. The Pad Thai. You can taste the tamarind! Most Thai places omit this essential ingredient. The sugar caramelizes and pulls this dish together beautifully. Fresh and delicious. The Drunken Noodles. This was the star for me. They used fresh rice noodles for this, which is really rare for many other Thai places to use. You can taste the wok char with this dish and they did it in a small truck/trailer. The sauce complements the veggies, I believe we ordered another one, haha. The Fried Pork Ribs. I can see myself eating this after a long day at work. The crispy and salty pork with the perfectly cooked rice? Just need some super hot pepper dip and its game! My favorite Thai spot so far. I have yet to even try another one to beat it. The location in Kula Malu is my fave (home spot). We go there regularly at least 2-3 times a month. Drunken noodles are a staple but the Garlic Salmon and Shrimp, yummm...Everything here is pretty yummy. Pad thai has now become one of my 9-year olds fave foods. One of the best meals I've had on the island. We had the crispy garlic shrimp which were plump, crispy and tender and garlic ahi which was packed with flavor. Just got an order of drunken noodles and asked for two stars and actually couldn't finish eating it it was so spicy and it's not like this is my first time getting Thai I know what two stars should be.
