Socal seems to be fixated on putting anything in a tortilla de maiz for a good reason. The lightly fermented corn scented, slightly chewy, round flat bread seems to go with almost anything. It's culinary genius by preColombian indigenous people in México. So Thai Mex Cocina utilizes Thai cuisine from tropical Southeast Asia that usually blends complex flavours of sweet, sour, piquant to put into their Taco. I ordered the Tres Amigos plate, but they had run out of the crispy pork belly. So I opted to get 2 grilled spicy garlic shrimp tacos & and one Saté chicken taco. To Thai Mex's credit the shrimp was not overcooked to make the meat hard & dry. In fact the shrimp was plump, with a snap & oceanic sweetness. Reddened w/ mild chile paste. Couldn't sense too much of a garlic presence. Garnished w/ crushed roasted peanuts, earthy, soapy, green herbal cilantro. The breast meat chicken was cooked in what seems to be a peanut butter tinged coconut milk red curry. Sweet w/ possible hints of tamarind, Nampla/Thai fish sauce, vinegar. Garnished w/ cilantro. Wedges of lime to add a citrus gastrique, sliced cucumber & red breakfast radish to refresh the palate were good accompaniments in between bites. Overall good tacos that incorporated nontraditional fillings from a cuisine half way across the world. My only concern was the price. $4 per taco is pretty pricey. The cost to value ratio is way off. For example, a cheaper way to go is to buy take out chicken saté for $9 & a dozen corn tortillas for $1. You can probably make about 5 tacos which translates to $20. Saving me $10 which I can put into a Roth IRA for a more comfortable retirement. The Tres Amigos is closer to 4 Yelp stars, but unfortunately the loss in bang for the bucks takes it down to 3+. However, the novelty of combining old world & new world is noteworthy.

(Dined 10/05/19 SA @ 6:00pm): You had me at Thai and Mex! I recently enjoyed a viewing of "Psycho" during an Eat See Hear event at The Autry Museum Of The American West At Griffith Park when I was first introduced to the Thai Mex Cocina Food Truck. Although I frequently attended, worked, or volunteered at the myriad of year-around events throughout Southern California, this was my very first encounter with this meals on wheels which is highly odd. Thankfully, I tried all the other trucks, so this was a no-brainer. Would my cabeza go loco for two (actually... I didn't discriminate against any cuisine) of my favorite foods!? QUICK BIO "Thai-Mex Cocina specializes in doubly-authentic tacos, quesadillas, and Thai noodles, with your choice of spicy garlic shrimp, chicken satay, or crispy pork belly. With each bite full of fresh Thai flavor and zesty twang of Mexican spices and ingredients, you may never want to eat anywhere else again. Then whenever you're thirsty, treat yourself to a sweet cream horchata or a sweet creamy Thai iced tea. Both go perfectly with these beautiful fusion feasts." PURCHASE Thai Iced Tea w/Almond Milk & Boba ($5.00): First time with almond milk, this was too thin and preferred the thicker consistency I'm familiar with for nearly a lifetime. The boba had a nice chewiness and slight caramel taste but wished there were more, and there was more ice than I liked. It was still good, but was too watery and didn't feel like a meal in itself like other non-almond milk versions https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=y0NrO2N9ew_l7_N0QIVUPw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. 3 Amigos Tacos - Spicy Garlic Shrimp, Chicken Satay, Crispy Pork ($13.00): I've made Thai-Mexican fusion food at home before but not this adventurous! So when they were promoting this https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=jUKswZSkJW5GnEQOWgFt6g&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw, I was all in! At more than $4/taco, I was skeptical until I two-handed the spicy garlic shrimp taco loaded with medium-large plump succulent pieces. A mess to eat, but I lovingly sucked my fingers not to miss any of the seasonings and sauces. The chicken satay was another handful of inventive eating filled beyond the tortilla with a sprinkling of peanut sauce - yummy! And last but not least was the crispy pork - the hardest one to eat figuratively and literally, the tortilla proved worthless and best eaten with a fork or fingers. It was lechon-level where I wish I had rice - I wanted more https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=y2Hs4q3Mn11jmJJyOgLbeA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw! SERVICE A friendly woman greeted, took my order, and brought my food all in less than ten minutes (my boba drink was almost ready immediately). I never saw anyone else in the truck although I knew there were others. They got me in and out to which I loved them for it! PARKING (FREE) Being a food truck, they were at the beck and call wherever the event was held. In this case, the event took place at a museum adjacent to a zoo with plenty of free parking all around. Another option was a driving service like a bus, taxi, Lyft, or Uber (no nearby Metro train station) - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE Your standard self-sufficient food truck with exterior food https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=3W_7PNnU1bsSuQB-8INP_w&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw and drink https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=qPsHs4oqyK1QWUFHCpzaAw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw menus, order and pick up windows, an area for condiments, napkins, and utensils, no designated seating area, and natural lighting was prevalent during the daytime while minimal electric street and truck lighting glowed at night. There were no TVs unless you considered the movie screen, but a DJ and live band played music in the background https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=95IeXm_wRUVxYvHaymLEOg&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL I would definitely fuse my tastebuds to the Thai-Mex Cocina Food Truck again if there wasn't a new truck to try. The menu was slim with only twelve main options with various protein options to choose from. I wasn't as much a fan of the boba drink (half-and-half was another option) but had to try it. As expected, the prices were on the higher end but not extravagant, but the portion size and taste made up for it. I found exceptionally good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $18.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX! 4.5 STARS

I found this truck in front of the Bank of America bldg LA CBD. The combination of Thai & Mexican intrigued me. I chose the tacos with shrimp(very large and well seasoned) and the carne asada burrito(large and satisfying). Service was very fast even though it was lunch time and the lady was very professional. Prices are reasonable for the large, healthy portions. Highly recommended truck in DTLA CBD.

    Chicken Satay Tacos (3): $12.00

It's been a while since I was introduced to a new culinary concept that I so quickly bought into, but you can add Thai-Mexican to the list thanks to Thai Mex Cocina's excellent Chicken Satay Tacos. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? I visited Thai Mex Cocina during a browse of maybe thirty food trucks during Anime Expo 2018 in DTLA. Right from the get go I was impressed with how friendly the personable the Thai Mex Cocina folks were compared to the other trucks even amidst a 105 degree afternoon. From there, my food came out quick. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Thai Mex Cocina tacos are $4.00 each, which is certainly on the pricey side given they're not huge. Having said that, I'll admit that Chicken Satay is definitely a unique enough taco to command a price premium, so while it's a close one, I wasn't too put off paying $12.00 for three tacos. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? I was skeptical, but these Chicken Satay Tacos were nothing short of excellent. The meat was out of this world and the tortillas fresh, with my only constructive criticism being that the tacos could have used another peripheral topping that equates to the slight crunch that you get from the onions on traditional Mexican street tacos. Single Star. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? I love love love this concept, and am looking forward to trying Thai Mex's other tacos. Star.

First of all Amy and Carlos were super sweet and nice, shoutout to them. I go up to the food trucks across from LACMA urban lights a couple times a week so every time I see a new one it arouses my interest. Thai/Mexican fusion is what they are going for and they've got it down. I tried the chicken satay tacos shrimp tacos, and the spring rolls. The chicken satay was loaded with chicken and their signature homemade sauce. The sauce is this Thai style peanut sauce that is Amazing! It kind of reminded me of pad Thai. The shrimp tacos had plump juicy perfectly grilled shrimp over some lettuce. Better than most shrimp tacos I've had. And finally the spring rolls, made with mushrooms, glass noodles, and carrots I believe. Lights and crispy on the outside and moist and savory on the inside, just phenomenal. Try them with their sweet and sour sauce :) ended off the meal with some coconut water and left very happy. These guys know their food!!

I know! I know! WTH! Thai what! Mex what! Don't judge before you even try their tacos. LOL! I was like you... I hesitated to try it at first. I'm like WTH! I only have less than hour to have lunch and this food truck was parked close to work. There were hardly people in line. In my mind... "Oh no! RED FLAG!" But then again I gotta try it. I ordered their signature dish called, "Tres Amigos" (Spicy garlic shrimp, chicken satay and crispy pork). Oh my! Among the three my favorite was the crispy pork! Geez! i can eat that all day. Of course if u are watching ur cholesterol it's ok to eat this once in a while but whoa! They fried that bad boy to perfection! U can hear the crunch in every bite! It's crazy goo! It's perfect with ur Cerveza!

Modernbrucelee here! I gotta say Amy and Carlos are incredibly kind and humble people. I got the chicken satay tacos and veggie spring rolls . The chicken satay tacos are loaded with meat and the sweet peanut sauce on top is the perfect partner for such a wonderful filling taco 8.5/10 . The grilled shrimp taco was great too. The shrimp is perfectly cooked and seasoned. There's just something I love about proper grilled shrimp 9/10 . The veggie spring rolls are delicious I loved how the wrap is crispy on the outside and moist inside. The filling consists of mushrooms , glass noodles and carrots. The sweet sauce with it is similar to those that usually come with coconut shrimp and it was homemade!! Everything is home made including the complementary Thai salsa which is made with Thai chili peppers and their avocado salsa. This is a huge plus for me and Amy was kind enough to offer me a drink with my meal. I love good food coupled with genuine enthusiasm and that's what I got here. Thai Mex Cocina offers the best of both worlds .

Crispy Tacos! Gotta try this one!!

This was a good surprise! (3.5 star, 4/22/2018) We just had the Japanese Mexican cuisine a few days ago. Their truck food was definitely a good one to compare with. We ordered crispy pork tacos, Thai Mex burritos and Thai tea. We three of us all liked pork tacos over the burritos with chicken satay in sweet sauce though it was good as well. I liked that the Thai tea was not overly sweet which I really liked. I didn't know that the truck was usually in Santa Monica as I found them at this Thai New Year event in the Thai Town. I'll give another try if I see the truck in Santa Monica!

This is my favorite place. Amy is so friendly and warm. Whenever I go to the Santa Monica Tuesday Trucks and they are there, I don't have to think what I am ordering. My favorite is the Thai Basil spicy Chicken Quesadilla - it is just so good. I have always felt a warm welcome whenever I go to this truck, their drinks are good too. I cannot say enough good things about the owner and the food. If you haven't tried them out yet, you should as there is no substitute for good food. They are the perfect fusion food truck. I have also ordered noodles at the place and it is always good. I really like the green sauce and sour cream they give with the chips. If you ever get a chance to try them out, don't hesitate. They are literally the best :)

    Nice people work here.

I'm kinda obsessed with the Thai-mex burrito. Seriously really good. The burrito has Chicken satay with pinto beans, fried rice and I think jack cheese. Thanks for coming to my apartment complex and serving delicious food with a smile!

Misnomer. When I saw the name of this food truck, I thought this might be Central American's "soul"…read morefood, but it was actually US Southern soul food with a little Latin twist. The only Latin American ingredients were tortilla, store-bought chips and their mango salsa (which was good). I like the idea of putting southern food in tortilla for convenient, food-truck dining, but I would expect a bit more blending of the two cuisines with its name. Zora Neale's Special: perfectly seasoned and grilled tilapia with greens (kale) and Mac n' cheese for $12. They serve it in a hamburger styrofoam box, so it looks rather small, but they load it and are very generous with the portions! I couldn't finish it in one sitting. I must say the greens and Mac n' cheese were quite salty, though. 3 Taco Special: your choice of chicken, beef brisket, fish and/or oxtail(!), which comes with store-bought chips and their mango salsa for $12. Each taco is regularly priced at $4. They allow you to order different kinds of meat per order, which is nice, but they didn't have oxtail at this time. :( The beef brisket was good, but again, a tad on the salty side. For sides, I tried the plantain chips and sweet potato fries. The plantain chips were not chips at all, but fried plantains, which were delicious, but we expected chips. The sweet potato fries were crispy and seasoned just right. I also ordered what I thought was watermelon juice, but it was really sugary lemonade with a few pieces of watermelon in it. Again, not what I was expecting. :/ The staff working in the truck was really nice, though, and tried to get orders out quickly.
