Food is ok. Ordered pad thai here and its quite pricey for a small portion. It was pretty chewy too. Service was not that great. One of the waitresses looked like she didn't want to be there. Food was very average. We ordered the fresh spring rolls and lettuce wraps to start.... Spring rolls wrapped in rice paper and filled with shrimp, cucumber, Thai mint, and noodle. Two of the spring rolls only had Thai mint, the others didn't. The dipping sauce was good and was the only thing that added flavor to the appetizer. The lettuce wraps were average (romain lettuce instead of bib lettuce). Plate was filled with bean sprouts, minced meat, and fried won ton crisps. Nothing special and not worth the price. The chicken pad Thai had no flavor and was dry. The only thing that was good was the vegetable stir fry with brown rice and the glass of wine ( Bogle- Red Blend ) I remember the food being a lot better. We love Thai on Main and order here often. I love the yellow curry, Thai fried rice (shrimp) and just tried the tofu vegetable soup for the first time and loved it! My only complaint is that when using the online ordering system, the prices are different than what is listed on the menu. I ordered a "pot" of the tofu vegetable soup online (to-go) and it was $16 (listed as $14 in the menu) and after tax/tip was 20$. The container was enough for 2 large bowls. Definitely delicious but not sure worth 20$. Either way we love Thai on Main and will order again in the future :) read more

I've been to Thai On Main several times now and I've always enjoyed my meal. The only problem to getting to the restaurant is the limited parking. Just relax and you will find a slot! The last time I was at the restaurant we ordered lunch specials which are offered throughout the week which is amazing. The lunch special includes soup or salad, an entree, or white or brown rice. We ordered: (1) The lunch specials are served with a salad or a complimentary soup. We all selected the soup which was the tom yum ...... so delish! (2) As my entree selection I had the pork Ka Prao which was stirred fried with spicy chili basil, onion, straw mushrooms and bell peppers. After adding my Thai chilis, red hot sauce and jalepenos my dish was relish! (3) Sonny boy ordered pad see ewe. He really liked it! (4) Hubby ordered the pad Thai .... But it took another 30 minutes longer then they originally said and when we got our food witch was drunkin noodles a meal with no lettuce had several large clumps of lettuce in there . Thai on Main is one of our family's favorites. I have tried many of the different noodle dishes, and they are all excellent. Each can be made vegetarian with tofu, and they will leave out the eggs if you ask. The vegetables are fresh, and when the description says spicy, they mean it! Parking can be difficult, but it's worth parking several streets over to come here. I like the atmosphere, and of course the people watching is great out the window. read more

I was not sure what to think of this place as we were deciding where to eat. My wife wanted noodles so it was really between two spots and this one won out. Normally, I think of a hole-in-the-wall for Thai, not a trendy looking spot with modern furniture and a nice bar area. Given the decor, the prices were very reasonable so we went in. Everyone who greeted us was nice and the server was very sweet. I decided on the special, which was not my initial intent. It was the Larb Goong, which is basically a minced shrimp salad. I asked for it spicy and that's how I got it. It wasn't like other places that skimp out on spice because I'm white. My wife had the Italian fusion dish that had a bit of a sweet taste to it but mixed with the seafood it was the perfect compliment. We did start with spring rolls, which were very good. The one reason why they lose a star is simple- they serve Chilean Sea Bass, which is an overfished species. We as yelpers and consumers must not only NOT order these dishes but to make it known to the chefs/owners that we do not want to see these fish on the menus. I have more respect for the restaurants that note on their menu why they don't serve certain fish. Had a wonderful dinner here the other night. This establishment is borderline 5...curry trio was excellent, asparagus had a wonderful garlic sauce, brown rice cooked perfectly, bacon wrapped shrimp were bacon wrapped pieces of heaven...only the less than flavor filled pepper beef lowered the rating. Corkage is reasonable at $10.00...I paired the meal with a lovely Penner-Ash 2008 Willamette Valley Pinot and it was yummy even with the spicy curries. Service was fast and efficient...and I even got a parking spot smack dab in front of the restaurant which never happens in downtown SB! I have been a loyal customer to this restaurant for years but my experience tonight made me never want to come back. To make this short, the staff were rude and took a very long time to take my order while other tables that were seated after me already got their waters and their orders in. When I got my shrimp pad Thai, I kept biting into hard, sharp, shells! I had to pick through my food and constantly kept having to spit out shells. I had them on my plate and asked the waiter nicely what they were and he said they were probably from oyster shells. I told him my meal did not have oysters. To my surprise, he responded with "What do you want me to do about it?" ...excuse me? Rude! No apology or anything. Instead he said "The cooks are probably just getting sloppy." What??? How does cross contamination happen that bad??? I am lucky I didn't get the pieces stuck in my gums! My food was not enjoyable at all. Walking out of Thai on Main last week, it suddenly occured to me that I'd been punk'd by the mystical powers of Plum. Plum-colored chair pads. Plum-colored placemats and napkins. Fer crying out loud, the waitresses all had exactly matching plum-colored t shirts. Is it any wonder that the customers of Thai on Main have been hypnotized into believing that this is a four-star restaurant? Just-okay food suddenly seems exceptional when you overwhelm the visual field with Plum; it's a little-known bit of arcane lore from the ancient art of Alchemy. That's the only way I can explain how so many reviewers are raving about the curries and awarding 4- and 5-star reviews like politicians awarding bailouts. Yeah, the purple haze got to me, too. Although the Crying Tiger and the Tom Kha Kai were alright, I really liked the Green Curry Beef lunch special with brown rice and the Shrimp Salad. So I could excuse the amateurish service (forgetting basics like beverage orders, utensils, and water), because those dishes were well worth a little inconvenience once I received them. And really, how could you not love the pretty glow cast by white Ikea lanterns onto plum-colored paint and textiles? It's like the kiss of halos infusing the restaurant with magnetic plumminess. Once you extract yourself from the influence of Thai on Main's aura, you may blink and stumble around a little as if waking from a dream, or walking off one too many Mai Tais. Thai on Main has: awesome food, a really good happy hour, an excellent location, and pretty ambiance inside. What's not to like? I've been many times and love it. While strolling around after work right down the street, a friend and I noticed that Thai on Main has happy hour. We took a look inside, saw the nice decor, and were seated in a matter of seconds. The lady showed us the many appetizer choices for happy hour (and they have a pretty generous selection). The happy hour appetizers are half off, the beer is $3, and wine is $2 off by the glass. They have a nice selection of white wines, which I always order here because I think red wine is weird with Asian food. I usually go a Riesling here - it's pretty good and pairs well with Thai. They also seem to have a pretty decent selection of beers if I remember correctly. The lettuce wraps here are really good and come on a huge platter with chicken, bean sprouts, sauce, wantons, and lettuce cups. They also have very good chicken satay. I came here once on a cold winter evening looking for soup. The soup was really good until I idiotically put too much hot sauce in my soup. When I explained my stupid addition to the waitress, she was kind and tried to fix the soup for me. Nice service! Thai on Main is great! read more

This is definitely my favorite Thai place. Sure there are more authentic places in Long Beach, but Thai On Main is definitely more modern and hip. Most other places have unnecessarily extensive menus. TOM's menu is definitely simple and to the point. Great lunch specials and portions M-F, 11AM-3PM. Happy hour is M-F 3-6PM. $2 draft beers and 1/2 off appetizers. They also have certain specials on different days. Tuesday is Tie Night; Wear a neck tie and get $3 beers and 1/2 off glasses of wine. Wednesday is $2 Chang's. My go-to is usually the Pad See Ew with pork. Stir fried flat noodles with chinese broccoli in a mild soy sauce. Amazing. If I don't get that, I never go wrong with one of their curry dishes. What is phenomenal is their Moo Yaang. It's grilled charbroiled marinated pork served with a roasted rice chili-lime sauce. Pork is nice and crispy and the sauce is to die for. Service is really good. The staff is very attentive and friendly. The owners are super nice and talkative. Makes you feel very welcome. I always sit at the bar so I can catch whatever sports they have on their big screen. :) read more

Very authentic Thai food in Seal Beach Ca. This is my go to Thai restaurant. The Ka Pro with ground chicken is incredible. The Tom Ka Kai soup is some of the best around. The chicken satah is always grilled juicy and perfect. All the cooks and waiters are Thai so this is the closest place to Thailandto get authentic Thai food. Be careful with spicy requests. I was taken to this restaurant by a Thai friend and was very impressed by the real thai of the food and how delicious the food was. We started with Tom Yum Seafood and Fish Cake for appetizer , Is was so tasty. And for our entree we were order Green curry shrimp, Crab Fried Rice, Ho Mok Pha all of food are very impressed and very delicious .There is a formal dining area inside the restaurant and very nice place. The shrimp were so mushy and gross. There were pieces of rice (or something unknown) that were rough to the bite and difficult to chew. I ended up not feeling well the whole night into the morning after eating only half of it (I threw the rest away after trying to find enough good bites to feel full). We had pot stickers and fried pork ribs as appetizer, with pad Thai with crispy pork for the entree! The food gave me an emotional experience. Service was terrific and very reasonably priced! I stopped by at the place last Friday. The atmosphere was so nice and cozy. We got start with Angel wing and Shrimp salad. Both are amazing! The angel wing is so good, crispy a boneless. We had Ho Mok Pla. OMG!!! It's so delicious. If you love curry, you must try this dish. It goes so well with the Crab fried rice. We ended the meal with crispy fried banana with coconut sherbet. Delightful Thai restaurant on Main St. I so enjoy walking into a restaurant that's welcoming and one that has a pleasing ambience, this place is that and more. The decor is so pretty I could not wait to dive into the menu. We opted for a light unadventurous dinner of coconut chicken soup, shrimp spring rolls and crispy rolls. All were nicely prepared and tasty. Can't say there was anything over the top delicious in our meal, but it was good and very worthy of another visit to try some different menu items. My server was on FaceTime the entire time and did not even come to check on us or ask if we wanted anything else.
