Details about recent arson that closed the restaurant
    Wendelin D.

I have written a positive review in the past about how Thai One On is very accommodating about food allergies. I love their food and order take out or delivery a few times a month. In early Feb I went to place an online order and the website said it was too early to place an order. I had placed orders around noon other times. I called them but the mailbox was full. I drove by and saw that they were closed during regular business hours and thought they were permanently closed because of COVID or recent construction that blocks street parking. FInally, the other day, I saw something posted to their front door and pulled over to see. They were victims of arson on Jan 30th and will be closed for a few months. I am so sad about the arson, but so happy that they will be back. It is my favorite local Thai restaurant and I will be counting the days. I wanted to let all of their fans know not to give up on them and amplify their GoFundMe page - https://www.gofundme.com/f/thai-one-on

Great Thai food in the heart of Lake City! In all seriousness, I've always thought of Thai One On as a very solid Thai spot. They do all the basics really well. I finally had the boat noodles and it truly blew my skirt up. I'll be back to have it again. The service is prompt, and it's a clean place overall. I'll be exploring even more of the menu and I'd encourage you to do the same!

    Pork Pad Thai Lunch Special

Finally dined in here and I'm definitely a fan. The food is better when fresh than when I order take out. It's still good, but food is always the best when eaten right when it is served. The restaurant itself is decorated nicely and has a nice ambience. The lighting and decor makes it fancy. The food itself is good! We order two pad thais from the lunch menu. I was quite surprised that this restaurant serves their lunch menu on the weekends since that is rare for a lot of restaurants. Pad Thais for $8.99 each, and it comes with a side of rice. That is also rare since Pad Thais don't usually come with rice! That's probably because it was from the lunch menu. When our food came, the rice was not actually included, but we had to ask. I think they didn't actually forget it, but don't usually get it unless someone ask. The Pad Thai wasn't that bad, I've had better, but it came with a lot. It was very filling and there were plenty to take home, especially since rice is also filling. The Pad Thai was a little sweeter than I would like and wish it was a little more spicer even though I order 3 out of 5 stars.

First time going to Thai One On and most likely not going back. I usually test for quality by ordering a simple dish Pad Thai. If you can't get that right then I am skeptical about the rest. I received my order with what looked like burnt noodles, tofu, carrots and peanuts. The only reason I finished it is because I was starving and did not have time to go back and return it. It tasted like a light BBQ pad Thai. Thats how burnt or old the oil or noodles were. I recommend cleaning the pans before cooking food in it.

Here are the facts: Seattle is replete with Southeast Asian and East Asian influenced cuisine. Go to almost any commercial center and you'll find a Vietnamese, Thai, or Japanese restaurant - if you're lucky, there's an Indian one, too. But I digress. Given the amount of Thai competition, there's a race to be better and more upscale in ambiance. Thai One On (which is an odd name - not so great on the branding) was very high on the tastiness and good/decent on the service in a beautifully decorated restaurant. I don't think the adjacent area does the restaurant justice. Here's why it's great: (1) the pad see ew is not overly garlicy, and not overly sweet, either. It was just right. (2) thai iced tea was great (3) duck curry was medium spice (they don't lower the spice level on this dish except for a yellow curry) and extremely good. The prices are really reasonable, but rice eaters beware (and that's me of course): they charge for white rice (1.50) and brown rice (3.00). A nice touch on the ambiance was the goldfish pond and the temple-like decor.

Seafood salad. So good but SO little! A little more greens would be nice for the price!

Since my last review the restaurant has closed and reopened, and expanded their menu, to now include more dumplings and varieties of noodles. They also now have a very handy duo of ordering kiosks, which you order at prior to sitting down. I found their kiosks easy to use, which isn't always a given. This being my first visit back in a while, I had to get the spicy cumin lamb biang biang noodles. However I had to try some dumplings, so we shared the lamb dumplings, while my dinner buddy had the spicy cumin lamb rice noodle soup (the same kind of noodles you'd get at a ten second yunnan noodle type of place). They also now have a complimentary side dish bar that has seaweed salad, peanuts, and kimci, as well as some condiment type things like scallions and minced garlic. I helped myself to some seaweed salad to nibble on while waiting for our food, and it was good although food comes out quickly enough that you don't necessarily have to rely on it unless you're really chomping at the bit. The spicy cumin lamb biang biang noodles are just as good as I remember. The biang biang noodles here are perfectly chewy, and the rest of the dish has a lovely flavor aside from just spice. They're generous with lamb and cabbage which add a lot of textural variety to the plate. The lamb dumplings were the sleeper hit of the meal, filled with juicy, tender hunks of lamb surrounded by toothsome clearly hand-rolled wrappers. Absolutely do not skip the lamb dumplings. My dinner buddy really enjoyed her rice noodle soup with spicy cumin lamb, which I think would be a great option on a cold day. Everything is pretty much self serve here, so don't expect full service -- although they did stop by to refill our water once. The food here is so good, though, and prices are so reasonable, that I truly do not care that the experience is pretty bare bones otherwise.

I had ordered the regular spice, but for me, I would've chosen the spicer one as I like spice but wanted to be safe. There was lots of really good flavors. The overall space and bathroom was very clean and a great spot for lunch!

The Chinese name, 全記麵家, has little to do with the name Mike, but is nevertheless an excellent choice for anyone in the area. The staff is very Cantonese through and through. It is a cash only establishment and their menu is heavy on the noodles, be it in soup form or dry. There isn't a ton of room for large groups, but the turnover is quick and thus the weights are usually quite minimal. Service is very good overall and super friendly. I would highly not recommend using their bathroom, as it's tiny, cramped, and not in the best condition. The noodle soups vary from wonton noodles to fishballs. They also specialize in beef brisket and fishballs, making this feel like a bit of a Hong Kong style cafe. Most of the soups average out to be $14-16, depending on size. It's a joy to watch them assemble the bowls in lightning quick fashion. Wontons are excellent. They're plump with just enough skin for texture and are complemented by a fragrant soup and very little skimpage on the noodle (#1). The large dumpling (aka "sui kau") is an excellent wonton alternative for those looking for similar textures. The beef brisket is tender and they also have a dedicated section for just congee. There aren't a lot of places like Mike's anymore, and I wouldn't hesitate for a second for an opportunity to come back. At the counter I ordered the "Tomato Niku-Tama" and poured some water from the self-serve station. The soup base was good and the udon was ok. I wish the noodles had a bit more chew and bounce to it, it felt like my noodles were slightly well done. Appreciated that if you dine in, the udon was served with a complimentary chawan-mushi, pickled cabbage, ginger, & Azuki jelly. The udon bowl was enough food but the sides were a great addition. Staff seem to hear exclamation of the size often and pleasantly giggled at our reactions and of the other patrons. Udon depending on the bowl ranges from $21-$25 each. Eventually will come back to try the other dishes on the menu, very reminiscent of the childhood meals my Dad would make.

Enjoyed a bowl of "the classic" with extra chashu... extra delicious, good service, and ambiance was that of a small little ramen house....very quaint! My problem with the place occurred during my second and recent visit here...this time with my family. This time no line (1145) so we were immediately offered a table by the host/waiter who pointed to a 4-top in the corner by the window. We made our way there from the host stand and were led by my son, an extremely polite 25 year old young man. My son believed our table "in the corner by the window" was the one just being cleared by the busser (who turned out to be the manager). My son asked if this was the appropriate table and the busser said no it wasn't and ours was the one the one next to it...and then followed that up by calling my son "stupid." Everyone in our group was extremely caught off-guard, most notably my son who confirmed what we all thought she had said... before she fled back into the employee's back room. Our group took a seat at the table as we clarified once again what had just happened. The host/waiter came over to our table and asked if we wanted anything to get started and what we wanted to drink. I explained to him what had just happened and that's when he informed me that the individual that had called my son stupid was the store manager!! I asked to speak with her and he went and asked her to come out to our table to address us. He returned a few minutes later and said, "that didn't interest her!" I immediately stood up and walked over to the kitchen area near where she initially disappeared from sight. The area was clearly marked employee's only and the waiter asked if I please would not go into the back room. I obliged as I certainly didn't want to make a scene. I explained to the waiter that I was not too pleased with her comments to my son and her behavior overall and that I would return to my seat to see if we would remain or elect to go elsewhere. He responded, "that makes absolute sense. I totally understand." His comments were such and his demeanor overall made me feel that this may not have been an unusual experience and that we may not have been the first customers to have such a negative experience with the manager. Tho, if true, I don't believe he was in any position to confirm or deny anything...which made me feel pretty sad for the waitstaff. Anyhow... we elected to stay as we were: 1) really craving ramen; 2) I had talked up Ramen Danbo to my family; and 3) we were on a rare visit into Seattle. So we did end up staying and enjoying some excellent ramen and excellent service - at least by the remainder of the staff! I did keep an eye out for the duration of our visit and the manager never came out onto the floor while we were there. Found this behavior just further evidence of her childish unprofessionalism...sad. SO, I leave this review in hopes the owner of this small chain reads this review, recognizes it's written by someone that puts effort into his Yelp reviews and recommends that you look into the behavior of an employee you hired/promoted into a supervisory/managerial position. You have a VERY unprofessional individual at the helm and I think the behavior my family and I witness the other day may only be the tip of the iceberg. I spent almost 25 years in the food industry and you should investigate your manager. At this point in time...we will not be back. Not when there are other quality ramen houses in the Emerald City.

The restaurant looks small from the front, but space is used efficiently and they manage to fit quite a bit of seating into not that large of a dining room. Tables are mostly four tops, quite spacious at that, and surrounded by sturdy wooden chairs. I came for dinner on a Friday evening and there were a few other tables at any given time. Service was quick and our water never ran empty. We had the wontons in hot oil, topped with peanuts, I had the beef chow fun, and my dinner buddy had the pork with hot sauce noodles. The wontons are very very good, stuffed with flavorful pork and swimming in a sauce that sits in that perfect spot at the intersection of hot and sour. The peanuts and scallions add a delightful crunch. Their beef chow fun satisfies every bit of childhood nostalgia I have for this dish, with lots of wok hei, bouncy noodles, and the most tender of beef. I think my favorite beef chow fun in the city still lives at A+ Hong Kong Kitchen, but this is a close second. The portion here is also huge. I am a human vacuum and I actually brought leftovers home, which is rare for me. The pork with hot sauce noodles is seemingly a fusion of zha jiang mian and dan dan noodles. My friend really enjoyed it and actually finished the whole thing, which is saying something given that she doesn't usually eat that much. There are so many other items on the menu that I'm eager to try, so I will definitely be back.
