I moved to this area a few months ago and checking out the ethic food scene. Have not physically been inside the restaurant, just take out. And often Tom Kha Gai (Thai Coconut Soup). I would say the soup is never consistent. Sometimes good, sometimes not so good. Last time we ordered it as mild spice and it was ungodly hot, plus my Sweetheart, who picks it up of us, had a big mix up/hassle with the order being wrong and had to wait while they re-made it. Time away from my Sweetheart is never a good thing! I would like to dine in sometime and then write a review it. So for now, rating as far as take-out would be summed up as "inconsistent" for both food and service. We'll see ... read more

Yummy! I've never had Thai and this was great. I had a peanut sauce with veggie stir fry and shrimp. Delicious. Very generous portions. I couldn't finish unfortunately. I also had a golden tofu for an app and I figured it would be a small plate but it was essentially a full square of tofu sliced and browned. It was very good but super filling. First off I super enjoy the gentleman who runs this place. He is nice and laughs easily. Get the coconut soup to start! I love the red curry! Their heat levels move up quickly! I can usually eat Thai medium, not here! So be cautious with your heat. The group I was with also had pad Thai and raved about it. read more

Never again will I give this place any business! For close to two years myself and other Nurses I work with will order carry out from here to eat at lunch... Never until today have I has a problem...however today's problems are enough that we will never return. Firstly, we ordered 4 carry out meals and when my co worker returned and I began to eat mine I noted it was EXTREMELY hot when I had ordered mild-medium.. (my coworker even tasted to confirm it was clearly hot not mild)... My coworker suggested calling to let them know they had switched the spicy-ness level of my entree incorrectly with another coworkers request. Thai Orchid reluctantly agreed to remake the entree which I would go for a second time to pick up.. My first mistake was not checking the order in the restaurant but seeing as how I was on my lunch break I hurried out... Only to get back to work and realize they'd made the entree with tofu instead of chicken ....I call again to let them know about the mistake only to be asked what I wanted them to do about it and to insist they can 'maybe remake the entree..' but it had to be approved by the manager. After another 5 mins of waiting I was told I couldn't have a refund but could come back a third time to pick up 'the correct order'. At this point I expressed I felt it would only be appropriate to give me a refund (a whopping $7) and to be given the correct meal since this would be my THIRD trip! With much reluctance the employee agreed and made sure I knew they weren't happy to do so. If you're still bearing with me the worst is yet to come...I walk in only to be rudely handed a bag without an apology or comment of any sort.. To which I now asked to personally speak with the manager. The manager walked out of the KITCHEN (important info in a moment) and began to laugh at me and speak to the fellow employees clearly about me in a rude manor in another language I clearly couldn't understand! (there's a reason they say body language supersedes language)... To which I stated excuse me? And expressed my frustration at the flippant attitudes and how much business our nursing staff has given them . The manager responded by telling me they were busy with many 'tickets' in order. No apology. I expressed to her that as a nurse I certainly understood busy-ness and a 'mistakes happen' mindset but that it wasn't what disturbed me most.. It was the way it was handled. At this point the manager abruptly walked away as I was still speaking to her and the employees still standing said 'I'm sorry she has been really sick all day. This is when I heard the very same manager who I saw come out of the kitchen where food is being prepared for the general public ... Vomiting!!! She was vomiting! I promptly expressed me disgust, disposed of the food and called the Health Department to file a formal complaint. I will NEVER return to this rude, unappreciative, poorly managed, unsanitary place ever again! read more

I've been to a lot of Thai places on the north side. This is by far my favorite. I kick myself every time I walk in to pick up my food because I always forget to ask for the special! Palm juice and sauce freshly mixed at your table! It's a little hard to find at night; tucked in amidst hotels of a side street this gem is worth finding! read more

Excellent service. Food was very good and we recommend it very highly. The server was very attentive to our needs and the food was served exactly to our expectations. I recommend the crab Rangoon's as a starter and the Thai fried rice was most excellent. I had it with the chicken and it was cooked perfectly. Easy to get to the location. This is my favorite Thai place in the Indy area!! I've never had a dish I didn't like from them and I order from them at least once a week so that's saying a lot! Their duck curry is phenomenal and so is their basil fried rice and their pad egg noodles! I feel like they're fairly priced dishes for how much food you get too, which is always a plus! read more

Ugh, I hate to do this because this has been my favorite Thai in Indy for years, but we had a really bad pickup experience last Saturday. I did an online order in the afternoon to be picked up at 7:30: an order of chicken satay and two panang curries. I got there at 7:25 and it was bagged up on the counter, so I grabbed it and hustled home. When I got home 15 minutes later I realized that we were shorted an order of curry and the food was completely cold and the satay was tough and inedible. I called and no one picked up and their voicemail was full so I couldn't leave a message. So I contacted them through their website and have still not received a response. It's been five days. When I called I noticed I had missed a call from their number around 6:30 - maybe they were calling to tell me it was ready? But they didn't leave a message and the pickup time on the receipt confirmed 7:30. So I have no idea how long it had been sitting there - even just an hour wouldn't have been as cold as this food was. I know restaurants are struggling right now and I want to buy local, but that was a really unacceptable experience. I'm only giving the second star because it's always been delicious in the past. read more

Order to go today at 2:37pm for Drunken Noodle Beef Thai Hot. Got back to my house which is 10 minutes away and starving then to realized they messed up my order! I was given Pad Thai! argh...how difficult is it? I tried calling back to tell them but it was 3:04pm which no one answers. They are close from 3-4pm so I left a message with phone number. It is now 5:53pm and no one returned my call. Very bad service with no return call and wrong dish all together. The Pad Thai was awful ...no taste and definitely not thai hot. Not returning to Thai Orchid. Should have went to Thai Taste or Jasmine Thai. I am never disappointed at these two places. read more

My sister loves this restaurant and I've been here a number of times before going vegetarian. Once I became vegetarian, I had to become more aware of the fact that my favorite dish (pad see ew) was most likely made with fish sauce. During one of these visits, I asked the waiter if there was fish sauce in the pad see ew, and was informed that most of the dishes (stir fries and noodles) were made from a signature sauce that was fish sauce based. Hearing this, I immediately felt discouraged hearing this. Then, the waiter informed me that the curries were still fish sauce free. I was considering the mango curry, so I decided this would be the opportunity to try it. Wow did that decision change my life. I'd never had mango curry before and this was the best introduction possible. The curry was perfectly thick and creamy from the coconut milk, but not too sweet. Little chunks of mango scattered the soup, without being overpowering. I loved this dish so much, I finished my whole dish. Considering they serve you enough food for two meals, it was a lot. I then proceeded to order mango curry for take out 3 more times the following week. It's that good. read more

Great food! My husband and I go here all the time. I order the Panang curry with tofu, and he gets the pad kee mao with tofu. We also usually get chicken spring rolls to start. The portions are generous and the food is well-flavored and delicious. The only con I would say is the service is just meh. Even when they are not busy, it can be pretty slow. read more

I've been to this place twice now, both times for carryout.. I got the Vegetarian Pad Thai, spicy both times, and the vegetarian spring rolls as well. Although the food is good, I still prefer Jasmine Thai locally. They both offer the same level of decor and dining experience but Jasmine Thai is priced slightly better and offers more more vegetables in their vegetarian Pad Thai, basically a little more bang for your buck overall. If Thai Orchid kicked other elements up a notch in addition to the price, it might be worth the difference because the food is good. read more

This is my favorite Thai place. I pretty much always get the massaman and Panang curries for takeout. The last time I also got the Hawaiian fried rice and chicken skewers so my kids would eat something from there. Those were quite good also. read more

I've been here a couple times and enjoyed it. The restaurant is quiet, food is flavorful and portions are generous (I always leave with leftovers). The server was a little over-attentive during our last visit (not necessary to ask several more times about water refills after we had declined), but I'd rather have that than slow service. Be warned that even the mild curry can pack a punch. I was fine with my panang curry, but my mom is more sensitive to spicy food and had to add extra rice and vegetables to her leftover green curry to balance out the flavor. You automatically get a small coleslaw-style (but better) salad as a starter, and I also recommend the vegetable tempura. read more

This is my favorite Thai restaurant ever (and I have been to TONS of Thai restaurants all over the country!) I always get the drunken noodle, green curry, and basil fried rice. My personal preference is to get everything without meat, green peppers and tomatoes, and to add broccoli. I get everything hot. And it is definitely hot, not for the faint of heart! But even without any modifications these dishes are absolutely fantastic. The drunken noodle: the rice noodles are nice and wide and soft, and the veggies all absorb the wonderful flavors and juices while adding their own unique flavors and textures. The dish is perfectly seasoned and the flavors are bold. The basil fried rice: the texture of the rice is always perfect, never overdone. The veggies are fresh and crisp. The basil flavor is bold and definitely the star of this dish. The green curry: loaded with veggies, perfectly flavored, bold and spicy. One of my many favorite things about this place is that it is always consistent. I've eaten here several times and my food is always exactly how I expect it to be. The quality is excellent, food is very fresh. It is a little pricier than other Thai places I've been to, but it is worth it in my opinion. read more

My sister and I were looking for a yummy late lunch and drove an extra 30 minutes to try out Thai Orchid. They were one of the few restaurants to advertise hours through the afternoon. And the reviews looked fantastic! Sadly, after driving all the way up there there's a written sign next to their advertised hours that says they take a "break" from 3-4. My suggestion would be to advertise your correct hours before people drive 30 minutes out of the way. Big fail Thai Orchid, I don't think I'll be making the trek again. read more

One of the several Thai restaurants that I have visited in the past couple of months. I am on a quest to find the best Padd Thai in Indy. This is the only place that I have been to that has not offered soup or salad as a starter. The Thai restaurant in Plainfield gave me soup, salad and fried bananas with my meal. I will say that the staff is very friendly and I got my food quickly. I ordered my Padd Thai medium spicy and it came out sweet. I had to add a little heat to it to get my desired "spicyness". Portion size was a little on the small side too so I left paying a couple bucks more for a smaller portion with no soup or salad. read more

I have been coming to Thai Orchid for the last 3 years. I have always had great service and no issues until tonight. Our server, was either new or not trained very well. My daughter's boyfriend ordered the fried rice with basil (hot) vegetarian and it came out mild with extra egg, which was supposed to be my daughter's order. He took it back to the kitchen and when it was brought out, said it was hot but it wasn't, though the egg was gone. We needed refills on ours drinks and set them empty to the edge of the table. Nothing was refilled for over 15min. Never once did he ask if the everything was alright or if we needed anything. Our tab was $59.52 for which I gave 4 $20 bills ($80) and told him I needed change for a tip. When the check presenter was dropped back at our table, there were 2 quarters in it. I asked the the manager and she said she would figure it out. We watched her speak with our server and he eventually brought the change back which he threw across the table so hard the previous 2 quarters flew out of the presenter onto the ground. There was no "thanks, have a good night." No manners or cordiality period. We will go to the other Thai places closer to us in the future. Hope that server has fun with the $20 he pocketed. It's sad that one person can ruin the last 3 years of dining experiences at a specific establishment. read more

On my first trip here I explained that I was vegan and they said they understood and helped me find several menu options. Since then I have eaten here several times a week for lunch. Today my soup came out with a big chunk of ham in it. I was told that ham is always in it, but usually not much so several bowls are served without finding any chunks. I am very disappointed that my initial trip here I was lied to and I have been unknowingly eating ham for weeks. I will not be back. read more

Love the pad thai. I usually get the chicken -- I ordered the shrimp once but there weren't enough shrimp to justify the additional cost ($2 at lunch, I believe). Lunch is a great deal. Your meal comes with soup, a small spring roll and something that resembles a crab rangoon but isn't (it tastes kind of like it has a sweet potato filling). It's more than enough food for lunch. I have only been to Thai Orchid once for lunch. We happened to stop in on Mother's Day. They were giving a special extra to all women; I think that was an order of crab rangoon. Thai Orchid has slowly become one of my favorite places for Thai. It isn't the best, but it's pretty tasty. I usually go there for take out. The service is consistently good as well as the food. Today I was in the mood for Crab Rangoon and Pad Thai with chicken, which cost around $19 and some change. Both were delicious as always. The sauce that comes with the Rangoon is so good. I enjoy the sweetness of it. I haven't explored the menu as much because I love the Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles so much. I also plan to check out their lunch specials one day soon because the lunch menu is much cheaper than the dinner. If you are in the area this place is definitely worth a visit. read more
