My mother in law found out about this place and we went for an early dinner. Walking in it's absolutely beautiful. We went around 4:30 on a Sunday so it was quiet. There was some very nice music playing which made it a peaceful and relaxing meal. The booth was comfortable and we loved the cushions and pillows. We started with the dumplings. They were brought quickly and were hot and nicely stuffed. So delicious. For entrees we ordered the chicken green curry and the chicken mixed vegetables. Both came with white rice. Everything was fresh and so good. There was so much chicken and it was nicely cooked. Still juicy. We also got an order of shrimp fried rice. Portions were huge and we brought lots of leftovers home. Stopped for lunch after a doctor's appointment since it was close and had great reviews and I see why they earned them! My husband had the Red Panang Curry and I had the Volcano Duck (lunch specials). Both were reasonably priced and portioned for a lunch special (we have been running into a lot that are not.). The red curry was deep and complex and the crispy duck done with Volcano sauce with fresh, not frozen vegetables on both, were absolutely outstanding!! Came with a chicken rice soup that was super garlic-y (so delicious) and fried wonton as well as a Thai donut cut in half. It was a nice touch and thoughtful. Service was excellent. Quick and so friendly. Atmosphere was a little dark but can't eat atmosphere and it's lunch, not a romantic dinner, lol. Feeling like we get ripped off anymore for portion and quality and we were so relived and satisfied when we left that we will definitely return when in the area. Came here Saturday, ambiance was great as always. Been coming here for years. There were placards on the table for beer and wine by the bottles but they don't actually have any of them. There is a very limited availability of box wine and beer, apparently no bottled wines. I handed the placard back to the server because I don't think they should have it on the table since they don't offer any of the drinks advertised and there was. ..confusion. the server was confused throughout as in not knowing what was available. I ordered my meal "Thai spicy" and was told they only have "Thai hot' so maybe part of the problem is a language barrier. Ordered with a specific pick up time given my daughter was getting her hair done in the same plaza and we wanted to pick up dinner when heading home. The restaurant had a few folks dining in upon my arrival to place the order and given the Yelp reviews I read it seemed like a good place to get dinner. The soup I didn't even get a picture of but was ok. Wasn't the best but hubs said it was ok. The sweet and sour chicken however was not appetizing at all! Located at a really small strip mall in Tampa Palms. It's a really small location that serves really delicious Thai food, everything feels very authentic and thoroughly cooked for the lunch special. We were also served a fried Rangoon Thai style and also chicken soup. The interior of the small establishment is very well decorated with lots of Thai centric style. The staff here are exceptionally welcoming quick with serving. Upon entering, they do ask you to hand sanitize prior to sitting down. This is really nice because it reduces the spread of Covid. You also have the choice to seat yourself wherever you want to in the establishment, so you can properly space yourself amongst others. Will be back again! read more

Pros: One of the more well decorated Thai restaurants in New Tampa. Great place for a date. The waiters(and one of the managers) were very good on checking on you. I ordered Red Curry and the amount of curry was good. Cons: They didn't have the heat on on one of the colder nights in Tampa. The amount of rice is a lot less than the amount of curry. At other Thai restaurants, I usually combine the rice with curry and have like 15-20% of the curry left. This time I had 35-40 percent left. (Extra rice is a $2 charge.) I've been coming to Thai Ruby on and off for years and I can honestly say that they've never disappointed me. You might not expect much ambiance from a place in an old strip mall next to a gym but this place is decorated so nicely with custom wood carved panelling everywhere. If you sit in a booth there are comfy pillows to prop behind your back. The woman who seems to run the place is so nice. They're also great at accommodating people like me that hate spicy food. The entrees are a nice size with a wide variety of vegetables. I always feel like this is one of the healthiest choices I can make when I get food from here and the bonus is that it's delicious. Probably my favorite Thai place in Tampa! I love the variety of foods they have, the service, and the quality of authentic food they serve. It is absolutely delicious. I've gotten the chicken pad Thai, green curry with chicken, sampler platter, the sweet & sour soup, and the pineapple fried rice. All were amazingly good! If you like spicy, I would recommend making the chicken pad Thai spicy since it added an extra flavor to it. I thought the chicken was a bit dry but the pad Thai noodles were well prepared! I was able to take it home and eat it again the next day for a second day meal. The sampler platter was delicious but full of fried foods that filled me up fast. I would recommend getting it if you have a lot of people there, rather than 2 people sharing it. The sweet and sour soup was one of my favorite things! I really enjoyed the flavors that it had. The pineapple fried rice was a large helping, well worth the price in my opinion. However, my favorite was the green curry! I could NOT get enough of it. Great Covid precautions in place, and service and food was perfect!! Wow. I don't know what to say. My husband and I are new to Tampa and have not found alot of great Thai places we love. But this place is DELICIOUS!! First off, there were COVID precautions. All staff members wear mask, and hand sanitizer is brought to each table for the use of all members before they touch the menu. As a health care professional I appreciate that. We decided to split a 3 course meal of crab ragoon appetizers that tasted and looked very different than the ones most people are use to getting from the fast food sector. They had a hint of curry flavor and were delicious with both the orange provided and the sauce. Then we had the Nom Sod "meat salad" which was delicious. My only caveat is that it was a little too saucey for me. I would have preferred it to be a bit drier because that's what I am use to. Then we got the panang curry with duck. This is not on the menu but we asked for it. The duck was not overly breaded like most places but still had a nice crispy texture. Always perfect. They are super careful with allergies and offer GLUTEN FREE dishes. Also have very well spiced vegetarian curries. Our favorites are the Panang curry with Tofu and the Amazing tofu. My daughter has CELIAC and she loves their spicy fried rice, (will warn you that we kind of feel this one tastes like it may have a stronger flavor so if you don't like even a hint of fish sauce after taste please avoid). The staff is genuine and we have been to this restaurant a lot over the last 15 years. Thai ruby is one of my go-to thai places when I'm at work in north tampa. Their portion sizes are perfect and prices are very reasonable. It's in a nice, quiet part of town which makes the dining experience enjoyable. Food- I'm not sure if you can call it "authentic" thai, but I really love their bold flavors. I especially love their vegetable coconut soup, pad thai, and Panang curry. All can be made without fish sauce without compromising the flavors as what usually happens in thai restaurants (the coconut soup goes heavy on the lemongrass, but it works!). Tofu comes fried but I usually ask for it steamed and I think they use a firmer tofu so it doesn't crumble. The meals are heavy but portion sizes at least for lunch aren't overwhelmingly large. Service- pretty much on par with any other thai restaurant. I haven't come across any major problems. Environment-it's pretty dark and small inside so can feel a little claustrophobic when it's busy, but otherwise it's clean so that's a huge plus. read more

Actually it tasted like plain noodles. I'm not even sure how that happens. The crab Rangoon has no crab in it and no flavor as well. I'm actually impressed with the consistent lack of flavor.... my husband could only take one bite of his curry.
