My wife likes Thai food and she got to pick the restaurant while we were visiting in Tampa. I'm always happy when we visit a new place I can review. Located in a strip mall, Café de Siam was a little hard to spot at night, so I have included a photo. We walked in to a mostly empty and nicely decorated restaurant and given a choice of tables. Our server was right over and provided menus. The menu is well organized and extensive. I did my own selections while my wife got help with recommendations. I started with their Thom Yum soup #22 and added shrimp, followed by Nuer Pad Holm #52, a sauteed beef dish with onions and scallions in soy sauce. I liked my brothy soup with a couple of large shrimp. A good start. I wasn't as impressed with my Nuer Pad Holm. I thought it was too bland with about the only noticeable flavor the onion slices. That said, I will defer to the restaurant's recent reviews that speak to the food being authentic and perfectly seasoned. I'm no expert on Thai food so maybe I got exactly what I deserved. I remember when most Asian restaurants offered a lunch special: a limited menu of popular offerings in a smaller portion for a cheaper price on weekdays around noon, often with a bonus thrown in like an appetizer or a drink. It feels like the lunch special has become rare as the years have gone by. Cafe de Siam is still offering a throwback-style lunch special. My wife and I took full advantage. The appetizer was two small, freshly fried, crispy spring rolls which were mostly stuffed with glass noodles and some veggies. For my main, I had chicken pad thai. The flavor was good, but I do wish it had more in the way of bright/tangy/acidic flavor, as it was mostly just savory and sweet. The serving size was perfect for lunch. I finished it neither stuffed nor hungry. My wife's veggie pad see ew was tastier in my opinion. This particular lunch special came with a dessert as well! The "thai custard" was a little square of firm-ish pudding topped with thin strips of an orange vegetable I could not identify by texture/sight/taste/smell. All of this for less than $10! A classic throwback lunch special. Service was great, a fact likely helped by us being the only diners. I would not be opposed to coming back and trying something else off the lunch menu. read more

Hidden gem in Town n Country! This place has been here forever and 1 bite will tell you why! Normally I would order one of their amazing curry dishes, but, today, I'm branching out. I started with hot ginger tea instead of the usual hot tea. I love ginger tea and, head's up, this one is sweet! Hubster ordered beef panang curry with noodles instead of rice and I got crispy catfish filets. The dish is spicy, so I got "medium", which definitely has "twang". I'm not one to normal eat the vegetables that come in the dish, but this was green peppers and squash. I ate every bite! Next time I will try the steamed fish with lime sauce. But, I must say, this fish is my new favorite dish! Hubster licked his plate clean! For dessert, we shared the black sweet rice with coconut cream. I tried to convince him he didn't like it so I wouldn't have to share, but, it didn't work out that way. Sad face. Next time, order two... So..future self...get the ginger tea, but, ask for unsweetened, try the steamed fish, and order 2 sweet rice desserts. read more

We hosted a business teams lunch for 20 here and they pulled it off. My favorite items was my Thai Iced Coffee. As for the meals, they met the needs of the group but the variety and preparation were pretty basic. On the other hand, it was also affordable. They did manage to bring out 20 dishes around the same time which was an impressive feat! Even more impressive was my workmate who ordered his extra Thai hot and proceeded to add two heaping tablespoons of dried chili and two more tablespoons of chili sauce. Cafe De Siam has excellent Thai food. If I could give halves on the stars, it'd be a 4.5! The hostess/waitress that welcomed us did an excellent job taking care of our group of 3. The menu at lunch is unique, with only 11 items to pick from. The waitress guided us well, & I ordered something I've never heard of before. It's called Gai Graprau. It's seasoned ground chicken in a pepper sauce. I ordered it spice level 3 out of 10, & it was super tasty. It actually reminded me of spicy ground pork. The taste was awesome. All three at our table thought the food was way above average. So why didn't I give it 5 stars? Well the portion size for lunch is tiny. I actually left there still a little bit hungry. I wish I could have paid 1-2 dollars more for a larger serving. It was delicious. read more

I can't believe I have not reviewed this place yet! I've been a patron of this local Thai restaurant for about two years, since moving to an apartment complex conveniently down the street. I hate that they are closed on Sundays but not uncommon for a Thai restaurant or cafe. Like others have said, it's family owned and run which is always comforting. I really enjoy their chicken Panang and crispy spring rolls. Their portions are decent and pricing is fair. Meals are always prepared within a timely manner and they're always pleasant to deal with when ordering. I am a repeat customer and will stay a repeat customer for the foreseeable future! read more

We had a nice lunch at this Thai restaurant. They give you a menu and everything is $8.95 and includes spring rolls and a dessert. So at first they served us the spring rolls with IG were hot, crunchy and tasty. We both had the Gang Ped chicken with coconut milk, peppers and bamboo shoots. Medium heat- which was medium hot but I like it that way. And the pudding for dessert was like lightly flavored bubbles of goodness! Great food and you can't beat the price. read more

My favorite is the Pad Grapau - I'm pregnant now and order TWO dinner sized orders at least once a week. When you ask for spicy - they actually make it spicy which is rare in these areas. It's not my favorite Thai restaurant due to better options near me. I really made extra efforts to come 2-3 times before deciding on 3/5. Their Pad Thai and Pad See Ew is anemic looking and tasting to me. I think they could give the dish more love by cooking the rice noodles in the wok a little longer to give it more color (char) and adding dark soy sauce (it's sweet and similar consistency to molasses); I think these recommendations would do wonders to these dishes! I can't believe that I haven't been to this hidden gem sooner. The place is so adorable and very zen. The family who owns the restaurant is so nice and provided us excellent service. The food was DELICIOUS!!! We ordered two appetizers which were the curry puffs and spring roll. They were made fresh, flaky and flavorful, I highly recommend the curry puffs. I really loved the fact that when we asked our server about the Pad Thai, regarding their portions, she was so honest and said the appetizer is a good size. Most places aren't that honest. Any time my husband and I are on this side of town, we stop in here. Hands down the BEST Thai food in the Tampa Bay area. The service is impeccable (the waitress still remembers us and how we like our food). The veggie curry puffs (with extra cucumber) are amazing- different from anything else I've tasted. I'd put their Panang Curry and Pad See Ew against anyone's. The icing is the side of broccoli with a garlic basil sauce. It's not in the menu but fills this broccoli lovers heart to its tippy top. I ordered here for the first time today for lunch and I have fallen in love! I actually checked here first for recs on where to eat today as I wanted to try a new place and I'm glad I did! I waited about 15 mins for my food(Monday around 1 pm). I ordered from the lunch special menu which included 11 meals for $7.95 and all meals include spring roll & supposedly dessert of the day (which I just realized I didn't receive). I ordered for take out the Gang Ped which is Thai Red curry with chicken, bamboo shoots, peppers and coconut milk. We have been to multiple Thai restaurants when we moved to Tampa and have even driven 20-30 mins in search of authentic thai food. We thought that we would never eat good thai food again.. until we came across Cafe De Siam. Every single thing that we have ordered off their menu is absolutely delicious. Some of my favorite dishes are Tom Kha Soup, Siumai (dumplings), Sweet and Sour Chicken, Green Curry, Panang Curry and Pad Thai. The spices are on point! On top of that the owner is so sweet and cares about her customers. When we asked where she was from go figure she is from Thailand with 8 brothers and sisters and 6 out of the 9 still live in Thailand. This is a true authentic Thai restaurant.
